Billie Eilish & her brother: ‘We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’

I admire the way Billie Eilish has used her platform and fame for politics and political causes in a smart way. She’s never played fast-and-loose with her personal politics, never played games like “so-and-so needs to speak to me and my specific issues!” She’s always seen the bigger picture, even when she was just a kid. In 2020, when she was 18 years old and about to vote for the first time, she appeared at the completely remote Democratic National Convention. She performed a song and spoke out about Donald Trump’s attempt to destroy America. She also went to the Biden White House twice, I think?

Well, Billie didn’t appear at this year’s DNC, but they did play her music during the convention and she’s seemingly been fine with that this whole time. Then on Tuesday, National Voter Registration Day, Billie and her brother Finneas posted a video encouraging people, especially youths, to register and vote:

Billie says: “We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy.” Finneas said: “We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future.” I wonder if this was a political endorsement the Harris-Walz team had locked and loaded for a specific time. I kept going back and forth on the planning behind Taylor Swift’s endorsement last week, and what kind of lead time she gave the Harris-Walz team, but Billie’s endorsement has the feel of something long organized with the campaign. Anyway, Billie looks great here! I know that’s not the point, but I like her hair color, it makes her eyes pop.

Also: the Harris-Walz campaign just dropped this powerful ad, with Billie’s song at the end.

Thank you Billie and Finneas!! This thing is going to be won by chipping away at margins. If a celebrity has the ability to move .1% of undecided or unmotivated voters, that is huge! (It’s one reason I’m pissed at Chappell tbh-if you can’t help, at least don’t hurt ffs).

I hope that the endorsements for Billie, her brother, Taylor and others are resonating not just with younger Millennials and Gen Z but with all generations. The last 10 years have been brutal, and I think if we just hang in there longer and get MVP Harris elected, we can make it through this.

Yes yes yes: if there was ever an easy choice to make, it’s this one. I hate that some influential people are shirking from denouncing the obvious garbage human that is TFG.
