Tiger Woods’ apology gets good ratings

Tiger Woods apologizes for irresponsible and selfish behavior in Florida
Tiger Woods’ apology on Friday of last week was watched by 7 million people, which certainly isn’t bad for a sportsman standing up on a podium reading from a script written by a team of experts. Contact Music [via E!] reports that the ratings were better for the apology than they are when he plays in a tournament. I heard that Tiger wrote the speech himself, but I sincerely doubt it. (I’m pretty sure I heard it on either the View or Today with Kathy and Hooda and am having trouble googling it. I do remember Joy Behar saying that trading stopped on Wall St. for 13 minutes during Tiger’s speech and spiked afterwards.) He may have been semi-sincere as I suspected, as truth expert Eyes for Lies assessed, or he may have been the narcissistic sociopath that a body language expert quoted by Radar Online claimed. I’m thinking he’s a massive cheater who is getting a glimmer of self awareness and does feel sorry (he got caught) but still doesn’t feel like he owes the public an apology. People were surely watching, though.

Tiger and Elin have co-signed a nice note to fellow parents at the preschool where their older daughter goes to school. The note apologizes for the media attention around the school. You can bet that the paparazzi are double parking and blocking access to the school. I know dropping off my kid at school is already a pain with just the other parents there at the same time.

There’s also news that Elin refused to sit for a family portrait ahead of her husband’s much-watched mea culpa. Coupled with the fact that she’s not living with him and hasn’t been wearing her ring, I’m starting to think she’s just biding her time and trying to figure out her next move. If she was my friend I would have the urge to tell her to get the hell out, (whether I told her that or not would depend on a few things) but we don’t know what she’s dealing with or what kind of truce she’s reached with Tiger. I hope it involves a ton of money.

That photo of him with his mother makes me want to cry…she’s another person who had to have been hurt by this, and shamed as well…but he is still her son, her child…

it was noting but a pr stunt , alot of bs in his speech , jut take 1 look at his momand the other ladies , they can smell the bullshit

Tiger Woods is obviously listening to his closest advisers now and it’s starting to pay off. He’s trying to “minimize the drama” in order to repair his tarnished image. You can’t hate a person who’s trying to handle his business. The fact that his press conference was watched so intensely by the public only validates his continued viability as a “marketable” public figure.

Tiger “Cheetah” Woods is so full of sh*t! He’ll go back to his old antics in no time.

At the end of the day he is being vilified because he cheated on his wife. I agree that infidelity is wrong but I also think that the level of scrutiny and the desire to destroy this man because he was unfaithful is more than ridiculous. It’s hysterical that Bill Clinton (serial cheater) is one of the most respected men on the planet who has gotten richer and richer since he left office and Tiger is being vilified for the same behavior. We forgive athletes who have beaten their wives, driven drunk, assaulted people, and a host of other activities but somehow Tiger is evil because he cheated. And no one can still explain to me what his infidelity has to do with his ability to play golf which is why he is famous in the first place.

I think one serial cheater is just as bad as another. I don’t need to know about his personal marital issues, but too bad it’s everywhere whether I like it or not. Not likely to change anyime soon either.

Tiger needs an academy reward for his performance. Bill CLinton will have the MOnica Lewinksky thing arond his neck till he’s dead, I don’t care how many good works he does. Respected??? I don’t think so.

Does no one have a job? Or life of their own to worry about? 7 million…!

    edit: spot on gg

Remember that before he left office and started getting “richer and richer” he was almost impeached. For infidelity to his marriage vows, something that many presidents had done before him with no consequence at all. I don’t think that’s getting off scot-free. It’s like on the one hand you’re saying that such judgment is wrong but also saying that it wasn’t harsh enough for you. I’m sure in two years we’ll be over the Tiger scandal, just like we were by the time Clinton left the White House.

Some people do immediately “forgive athletes who have beaten their wives, driven drunk, assaulted people” but for me, it takes a little time. And a lot rides on how you used your image in the first place. (ie. no one was terribly upset with Dennis Rodman because no one had any expectation of good behaviour from him)

i don’t want to know anything more about tiger woods or his penis.

  12. ohsofabulous says:

So. Elin will leave him and he will be the whore that he wants to be.

  13. Kim says:

Oh geez his mother all supportive! He slept with many diff women. She should be smacking him upside the head. They are acting as if they lost a family member. Disgusting. Tiger is a loser who cheated on his wife multiple times and isnt sorry – he is only sorry he got caught. I hope his career is over. Who in the world would support a lying, philanderer like this? NIKE!

BOYCOTT NIKE! And any other co. sponsoring this piece of crap! Esp females how can you contribute to a company that basically says its ok to cheat on your wife multiple times!

“Esp females how can you contribute to a company that basically says its ok to cheat on your wife multiple times!”
Because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to shop anywhere or buy anything. For the time being, I’m perfectly happy boycotting Gloria Jeans.

  15. ohsofabulous says:

In theory it sounds good for women to boycott tiger woods but I don’t think that will happen. If women support artists who continue to spew lyrics that harm and or degrade women, athletes who rape and abuse women then they will support tiger woods. He will recover.

  16. Magsy says:

He’s too old for mama to beat his ass but he looks like he can’t even look her in the eye while she looks almost determined and defiant. The whole apology thing/media event was so unnecessary. You’ve made your millions Tiger just go away.
