Wilkinson: Prince William worries that his father & brother are ‘isolating’ him

On Saturday evening, the Mail published their big exclusive – with photos! – of the “Secret Peace Summit” between the Sussexes’ representatives and King Charles’s communications guru Tobyn Andreae. I imagine that soon after the Mail dropped that bombshell, the royal-reporter WhatsApp lit up, especially the chat with Kensington Palace’s communications people. There’s been a palpable panic coming from Prince William and his people ever since the story came out, with royal reporters openly wailing “BUT WHAT ABOUT WILLIAM??” Speaking of, I giggled my way through this op-ed from The Sun’s Matt Wilkinson. Wilkinson is the same “royal reporter” who literally flew to Montecito to stalk the Sussexes a few years ago, and he hosts a Sun talk-show which should probably be called “All About Harry & Meghan.” From Wilkinson: “Is the Sussexes’ ‘hand of friendship’ really an attempt to force a wedge between Charles and William? While Harry ‘love-bombs’ his father – let’s not forget it has been his older brother who has consistently made big gestures.”

While all eyes were on Harry and the King’s spin doctors together having fun in the sun, it’s more revealing to see who wasn’t there. The King’s director of communications Tobyn Andreae turned up with a bottle as a gift for Sussex aides Meredith Maines and Liam Maguire – but Prince William’s communications chief Lee Thompson was not present.

While offers were made and invites accepted between Montecito and Buckingham Palace there was not a seat at the members club balcony for anyone from Team William. Worse still, they had not even been invited. Harry has made it clear he wants to bond with his father again but no offers are made to William. The Sussexes appear to be offering the hand of friendship but are they actually trying to force a wedge between the King and the future King?

If they can get the King onside then they can isolate William. Divide and rule.

William is right to stick to his guns as he is in a better head space now, is no longer seething and has moved on – but is still waiting for Harry to apologise.

While Harry ‘love-bombs’ his father – who has not locked the door or thrown away the key to reconciliation – let’s not forget it has been his older brother who has consistently made big gestures. It was William who kindly took him and Kate out of the Royal procession at Harry and Meghan’s final royal engagement, the 2020 Commonwealth Day ceremony, after learning the Sussexes had also been removed. It was William who stood shoulder to shoulder with Harry to unveil a statue of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace less than three months after the Oprah Winfrey interview. It was William who agreed to wear a morning suit at Prince Philip’s funeral instead of military uniform to spare Harry’s blushes. It was William who invited Harry and Meghan to join him and Kate to look at flowers left in Windsor for Queen Elizabeth II after he death in a show of unity.

And it has never been William who has publicly trashed his family. The King and Prince William should hopefully see through any attempt to divide them and they must stick together. Royal happy families cannot happen if Harry tries to cut off his father from his brother and next time a bottle is handed over as a gift we hope it’s cordial.

[From The Sun]

I lost it at “If they can get the King onside then they can isolate William. Divide and rule.” It’s both medieval AND childish. You’d think that Harry had a hand in ousting the Archbishop of Canterbury all to enact a secret plan to lock William in the Tower of London, meanwhile William throws his toys out of the pram and cries “but I’m not incandescent with rage anymore, I’m a big boy now!” There’s a not-so-secret theory that many royal reporters completely know what William is really like and that those reporters kind of hate him. Why is Wilkinson making William sound so pathetic here? “There was not a seat at the members club balcony for anyone from Team William. Worse still, they had not even been invited. Harry has made it clear he wants to bond with his father again but no offers are made to William.” Thanks for underlining the fact that Charles and Harry both treat William like a non-entity!

Lol I can’t even keep up today. William is crashing out with these briefings. Yes they could be reenacting Richard III for the 21st century, or…. Stay with me here, Harry’s relationship with his father is separate than his relationship with his brother because he isn’t interested in being a ” working” royal. So this has nothing to do with the ” job” , where William will eventually be the boss, so he doesn’t need to be included. He’s so petty and jealous. As your ” friend” has told Tom Sykes on a weekly basis, you hate Harry and will never speak to him again. Why do you care?

And William stays telling on himself. He knows that he spent the last few years pretending to like his father to isolate his brother and exclude him, so he can’t fathom that that wouldn’t be Harry’s motivation too. He always presumes that everyone wants to live down to the standards that he operates his life under. Horrible son, horrible sibling, horrible husband, horrible boss, everyone else must be these things too. Explains a lot of briefings too around Harry and Meghan over the years doesn’t it?

    • Lucy says:

Correct, this is classic DARVO/projection. He can’t imagine an even somewhat normal motivation for interacting with Charles (as normal as having to send emissaries to meet with your dads emissaries to talk about maybe talking can be). If he’s not a full blown narc, the institution certainly functions like he is. Having to run to everyone and immediately announce this kind of thing is bananas.

  2. Over it says:

I am the future king, how DARE the two of you ignore me. Charles and Harry team meanwhile say to each other, what is that pesky annoying noise in the distance. Would someone swat that insect already.

    • Megan says:

William needs to mind his own business. It’s not up to him if his father and brother repair their relationship.

  3. Oh come on with this horseshit!!! Wasn’t that exactly what poor wee Peg was doing to his brother? Isolating him from dear old dad? Poor Peg wasn’t invited to secret meeting and now the tantrums begin at home and in the press.

  4. Becks1 says:

Well this is some serious rewriting of history, isn’t? As I recall it, QEII was the one who said morning suits at Philip’s funeral bc that got rid of the Andrew issue. As i recall it, W&K had a hissy fit at that service in march 2020 and refused to talk to Harry or Meghan (Kate refused to acknowledge them) because they were cut out of the procession. and so on.

William is big mad about this summit – which is hilarious to me.

  5. Beverley says:

William comes off as unhinged. He’s shrill and so very small. Every time he screams about how much he hates Harry, he looks like a lunatic on the brink of a severe breakdown.

  6. Meredith says:

The reaction to the “secret” meeting tells us all we need to know about why neither William nor any of his people were invited.

Also, if Harry truly was interested in getting Bill locked in the tower of London, I’m sure he’d do it the traditional way- by negotiating with France or Spain for men and money to overthrow the current rulers.

    • Yvette says:

@Meredith, who wrote: … “Also, if Harry truly was interested in getting Bill locked in the tower of London, I’m sure he’d do it the traditional way- by negotiating with France or Spain for men and money to overthrow the current rulers.”

      LOLLLLL! Yea, verily, yea! 🙂

I think that’s why William is so bothered by Prince Henry. Which is also why there’s so much noise about a ‘rival court’.

  7. Lady Digby says:

Isolated? He’s yakking to the media again? He’s still hugger mugger with Jason Knauf and has the establishment on his side? He has KP on his side? All the celebs like Beckham who want gongs are sucking up to him. How is he isolated?

  8. sunnyside up says:

And when is William going to apologise for sticking his finger in Meghan’s face, When is Kate going to apologise for being so snotty nosed about Meghan’s kind attempt to excuse Kate’s forgetfulness and also for being concerned about the colour of Archie’s skin. But even if she does apologise it isn’t going to change her racial views and it won’t stop her being jealous of Meghan’s superior abilities and work ethic.

    • Beverley says:

In my experience as an older Black woman , racists never change their ways. Their deeply held sense of superiority to non-whites is key to their sense of self. Bigots never change their minds. Their ideology is too important to their very identity.

  9. Chica says:

My guess.. they are negotiating the terms for Invictus. If the games go on without KC appearance, it will be Diana’s funeral again. Most likely, Downing Street is making this happen and Harry’s security must be address.
Will is scared and that’s why Wales worked this weekend.

  10. Jais says:

I’m no fan of this guy from the Sun but wow this was funny to read. William is going to be king one day. And he’s freaking out that his dad and brother’s people met. We dont even know if Charles and Harry have even spoken yet. But somehow this means William is isolated and the Sussexes will divide conquer and rule!!! Rule what? William is going to be the king. End of. Rule the headlines? Rule hearts? Like what in the heck will the Sussexes be ruling over just by speaking to Charles. And let’s be real. William has probably been isolating himself from Charles. Or Charles has been avoiding William’s people’s calls. Or both idk.

  11. Monika says:

Willli isolates himself from Charles by openly talking about how his reign will be different from his father’s as if Charles already passed on.
He has not moved on and is still incandescent with rage. Willi still thinks every day about Harry. And he is incandescent with rage that Charles and Harry stole the Waleses big headline at Wimbledon.
All the big gestures are just empty gestures. As with Charles Will is all about how it looks like, keep up the appearance, the facade, and make the RF not look too petty.
And it was Kate who said that it was the hardest she ever did the walkabout with Harry and Meghan to look at the flowers for the lat Queen. This was pure deception of the public by Willi, pretending a unity which was not there.
“And it has never been William who has publicly trashed his family” Yep, Willi is the one hiding behind royal sources, insiders, friends of the family, briefing all the stuff to the BM and throwing his family under the bus. He has no self-awareness how this actually make him look like, petty and cowardly.

  12. Chrissie T says:

The royals have actually had a good few weeks. Successful state visit, Ascot and Wimbledon. Nice pics, positive press. The thing I find fascinating is they then push the self destruct button. Is it rivalry between Charles and William which led to leaking this meeting to the press, initiating Will’s incandescent rage. Whatever, by reporting it this way the rota aren’t doing him any favours. I think Will is spiralling and needs some serious intervention.

  13. bluhare says:

Weird how that works, isn’t it william?

  14. Lau says:

I mean, that’s kind of what you get for constantly telling the press that your father is at Death’s door and that you will very soon be king in his place. But more seriously, I’m afraid that this might just be only a sick ploy from Charles to force the Sussexes into agreeing to some non sense to benefit his own public image.
Anyway, what about Camilla ? Surely she’s spend years working to get Charles to become estranged from his sons, surely she must be pissed if there is any sort of true rapprochement happening.

  15. bisynaptic says:

“Will no one rid me of this troublesome brother?”

  16. j.ferber says:

When, if, William is made king, he will have so many gaffes and embarrassing moments, he’ll self-isolate (like self-deporting?) just to get out of the glare of the public’s eyes on him. He really has nothing to bring to the monarchy, only refusing to do what the others have done before him. He comes off more as petulant and snobbish rather than someone who genuinely has a new vision of what should be done. William doesn’t HAVE a new vision of what the future monarchy should be. He will balk at duties, but only do one-off, highly-criticized, light-weight events of his own (like the daft video with wifey on the delights of nature (that have been gated off from the plebeians.) His little ventures will be small, odd and fall flat. God knows how his ego will fare (I don’t really care), but the people around him will tell him how great he is. Pathetic.
