Ian McKellen & Antonio Banderas join the Beard Club

This has been the winter of The Beard Club. It seems like every dude out there has been rocking a beard at some point over the past few months. Everyone from Jon Hamm, to Brad Pitt, George Clooney, James McAvoy, Robert Pattinson and Eli Roth has been doing it, and now it’s time for some of the older foxes to get in the bear game. Thus, I give you Anthony Hopkins, Sir Ian McKellen and Antonio Banderas. We’ve already seen Sir Anthony’s beard when he was belittling Paris Hilton, but I just decided to enjoy it once again. In Banderas’ case, I think his beard is for a movie. And it looks great.

I have no idea why Sir Ian is rocking his mangy beard, though, but his is kind of fabulous in its sheer deranged look. This is how I’ve always imagined Socrates would look like:

And Sir Anthony, just because:

got nothing but love for Sir Ian, but egad…he looks like a homeless person in that picture.

and Sir Anthony looks like Santa!

  2. Sumodo1 says:

C’mon, it’s not like Brad “Cap’n Lou Albano” Pitt. These guys need the beards from time to time for movies. Brad is just “The World’s Highest-Paid Babysitter.”

  3. bite me says:

babysitter of what, his own freaking kids

  4. Dorothy says:

I LOVE Ian McKellen!!! I think he looks great! As do the others.

  5. truthSF says:

Damn Sumodo1, What a dumb sh*t to say. So I guess all the fathers out there taking care of their kids while the moms are working are just babysitters? So when/if you have a child, you can hire the dad to be their babysitter huh!!

  6. Lynette says:

Antonio Banderas looks like Saddam Hussein. Not a good look for him.

  7. Rianna says:

I personally am biased towards facial hair. I find it so manly. There is nothing like a bit of hair on the face to say “fuck me” lol!
My partner is a sexy Alaskan with dark hair and this amazing dark beard and I love it! I never did facial hair before him but now I find it immensly attractive lol!

  8. SpreadLove says:

Sumodo1 – What a ridiculous comment. Oh so my Dad was just my babysitter?

  9. Scout says:

  10. QB says:

I think he is doing it for the movie “Knockout” with Gina Carano (mma fighter) Ewan Mcgregor and Michael Douglas,Michael Fassbender, etc, is a spy movie he is playing the head of a blackop european unit , so it fits the part.

  11. teehee says:

I dont think what Sudomo said was meant to apply to every father everywhere. We all know thats not the case. I bet Sudomo knows that too.
Its just bitter sarcasm directed at celebrities– as is the purpose of this blog.

edit: Oh SuMoDo1 or whatever— LOL I have mild sysdlexia.

And as for facial hair— depends on teh guy, and your felings for him. When you love him, its just more of him to love or more to love about him 😉

  12. Wensleydale says:

Sir Ian is appearing in Waiting For Godot in London. That’s why he has this straggly beard rather than his Gandalf version. This is the link to the play’s website.
