Donald Trump released the MLK Jr. files, all to avoid releasing the Epstein files

Donald Trump and his handlers have been in a state of blind panic for several weeks. It all started when Trump’s Attorney General and his cult loyalists within the FBI decided to suddenly close the Jeffrey Epstein case and proclaim that there is no “Epstein client list.” For years, Trump and his people fed the MAGA cult a steady diet of Epstein conspiracies and lies, trying to convince people that Epstein was significantly connected to Democrats and Hollywood types. When really, Trump was Epstein’s close associate and friend, and probably a co-conspirator as well. When Trump closed down the Epstein case, even his loyalists understood that a significant coverup has happened, and that Trump is compromised beyond belief.

Well, Trump has been doing everything he can to distract his cult from all of the Epstein conversations. It’s the equivalent of jingling keys in front of a baby – Trump’s version of “weathering the storm” is ranting 24-7 online, releasing medical information about his poor health, and releasing other files… any file other than the Epstein files. On Monday, he released the Martin Luther King Jr. files.

More than 6,000 documents related to the 1968 assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., totaling nearly a quarter-million pages, were posted to the website of the National Archives late Monday afternoon, in what the administration hailed as a triumph of transparency.

But several noted King historians said they had found little in the way of new revelations about the death of the civil rights leader in the documents, and noted that the trove does not include F.B.I. wiretap recordings of Dr. King and other materials that remain under court seal until 2027.

The release on Monday, with no prior notice, came at a time when Mr. Trump and White House officials have sought to divert attention from right-wing backlash demanding the release of files related to the death of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump administration officials said the King assassination documents include notes on the leads pursued by investigators, interviews with people who knew his killer, James Earl Ray, and previously unreleased details of interactions with foreign intelligence services during the manhunt for Mr. Ray.

[From The NY Times]

Reverend Dr. King’s family is not pleased that Trump is using their family as a distraction from the Epstein mess, and they’re saying so publicly. Bernice King has been on a tear and it’s really funny and sad. Funny because the King family is like “but what about the Epstein files” and sad because Trump is basically harassing the family of a slain civil rights leader because he’s trying to distract from his association with a human trafficking POS.

    Go get him, Bernice

  2. Amy Bee says:

I mean releasing these files only highlights Trump’s refusal to release the Epstein files.

  3. Mslove says:

Trump’s base does not give a crap about the MLK Jr files, because they’re racist. And didn’t Trump bungle the releasing of the JFK files? I can’t believe this orange, moronic perv is our president.

  4. Nerd says:

I agree with Bernice all the way… Release the Epstein files.

  5. Me at home says:

If Trump thinks his racist MAGA base cares about the MLK files, he’s even more desperate than we thought. Hope his Epstein tie bites him hard, we all know he’s a predator.

  6. Chica says:

His obsession with using black and brown folks needs its own DSSM category.
We know MLK had affairs …

    • Lara (the other) says:

And who cares? As long as the affair partner are consenting adults, it only concerns his wife, him and the affair.
Of public interesst is, who raped or assaulted underaged and/or trafficed girls. Especcially if it is the current president of the USA.

  7. Kitten says:

It’s so vile that he did this while MLK’s family was still in the process of reviewing the files, completely against their wishes. Then essentially forcing them to make a public statement-grrrrr, dude is such a disgrace.

And no, we’re not forgetting about the Epstein files. Dems need to make the Rethugs vote again and again against releasing the files–sneak it into every piece of legislation that touches Trump’s desk.

    • Calliope says:

I wondered why the Kings had a joint statement out so quickly. That’s just awful that they were currently reviewing the files. Such a hideous group of felons we have.

And I agree it’s just making it more obvious what he’s not releasing.

Trump bout to pick another random fight with Meghan and Harry for deflection, mark my words. Using poc for deflection. What else is new in their racist world? Shame on Trump and his friend Epstein and any MAGA who cries about child trafficking and then puts their kids in freaking MAGA trump clothes. Good for Bernice King on the callout.

  9. Jaded says:

This after Trump removed a bronze bust of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. out of the Oval Office. Then lied about where it had been placed. It’s in the basement collecting dust I’ve no doubt.

Also more and more women are coming out about the grotesque behaviour of Trump (and his BFF Epstein) to them — he even called Michael Cohen’s then 15 year old daughter “a great piece of a$$”.

  10. Louise177 says:

Nobody thought that it looks 100000x worse to release other files but not Epstein’s?

  11. Sue says:

Mike Johnson and the House MAGAts falling over themselves and then some to protect this absolute f-cking loser clown predator from the most obvious coverup in history is so pathetic. Do they have any idea how they are going to look in history books? PATHETIC LOSERS all of them!

    • Blithe says:

Johnson is shutting down the House early for vacation — to avoid having a vote on releasing the Epstein files. Surely, SURELY, the members of the House and all of their constituents will have forgotten all about the Epstein files by the time the House sessions resume in September, right?

As to how this will look in the history books, it will depend on who gets to write, publish, and distribute those books. @Sue, See Trump’s 1776 Report, and other Trumpian responses to the 1619 Project.
