Prince William has to leave his yacht vacation to attend the women’s Euro final

According to many Greek media outlets, Prince William, Kate, the Wales kids and Kate’s parents are all on a luxury vacation in Greece right now. They have a lot of royal protection officers with them, and they were seen flying a private plane into the country and boarding an enormous super-yacht, a yacht which is likely owned by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi. The British media is currently playing a game of “we refuse to see any of this or give the Wales family’s vacations any energy.”

Well, it’s pretty common for William and Kate to go underground and not be seen for months at a time following Wimbledon. It’s been happening that way for years – as soon as their kids’ school vacation starts, William and Kate are in the wind. In the summer of 2023, the Lionesses made it to the Women’s World Cup final in Australia. William, who was then the president of England’s Football Association, refused to leave his summer vacation to attend the World Cup final. He was too lazy to watch football or cheer on the Lionesses. Well, the Lionesses won their EURO semifinal yesterday, while William was day-drinking on a super-yacht in Greek waters. The Lionesses are into the EURO final, because they are an amazing team. They’ll face either Spain or Germany in the final. The final will be held in Switzerland on Sunday. Guess who has to cut his vacation short to fly to Switzerland?

Prince William will travel to Switzerland to cheer on the Lionesses in their Euro 2025 final on Sunday, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

The Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Football Association, will be at the finale of Women’s Euros in Basel after England beat Italy in a thrilling victory last night. They will play the winners of the semi-final between Germany and Spain, which takes place tonight.

Both William and wife Kate have been away from royal duties over the last week to spend time with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who are on their summer holidays from school.

However, it is likely William and the rest of the family have been following the fortunes of the Lionesses as straight after their extra-time win last night thanks to a Chloe Kelly winner, he took to social media to say: “Brilliant performance @Lionesses! One game from glory!”

[From The Daily Mirror]

Do you think he’s mad about this? I bet he is. Incandescent with rage that England’s women’s team has made it to yet another major final and now he has to leave his yacht vacation and “go to work.” What a bummer! It’s also funny that so many eyes are on him about this too – it’s all because he skipped the World Cup in 2023. He got terrible press for that. I also think this is about William spending too much time attending Aston Villa games this year, and he only went to one of the Lionesses’ EURO games.

Hahahaha, poor poodle has to spend part of his vacation working. Will no one think of their children who need to spend time with their hardworking royal parents?!!?!?!?

    This family, i tell you….

    • Me at home says:

“… poor poodle has to spend part of his vacation watching football.” FIFY.

I guess he might consider the women’s team work, though.

      • Becks1 says:

Yes, I should have said “working” in quotes lol. He would certainly prefer this was Aston Villa or the men’s team but hey, he gets to go to the Euro final and write this off as an engagement.

        Wonder if he’ll take Charlotte…..?

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

I imagine that insofar as Billy Idle deems watching women’s football ‘hard work’, for the Lionesses, having to put up with his odious presence for any length of time is, in its own way, harder work than it took to reach the Final.

  2. Amy Bee says:

I’m sure he’s mad about this but he has no choice but to go and no excuse to miss it because it’s in Switzerland. He’s still trying to make amends for missing the women’s world cup final a few years ago.

  3. Nikki (Toronto) says:

He’ll bring Charlotte. There’s no way he’s facing the media supertanned from a yacht vacation alone.

    • Kittenmom says:

      💯

hiding behind his kid to save his pr

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Ah yes, using his daughter as a human shield. How predictable, and so like his own 💩father.

I wonder if she will ever call Uncle Harry when she gets fed up with being the generational punching bag.

    • Megan says:

I don’t believe they are on a yacht. William would never leave that kind of vacation for a women’s final.

      • MY3CENTS says:

I don’t believe he’s with Kate. I can’t imagine those two ,that can’t stand each other, confined to one space out at sea with no way to avoid each other.
I think it’s just Kate , kids and possibly her family.

      • Blujfly says:

The final is on Sunday, they may be traveling back Saturday or Sunday as is. Otherwise I agree with you.

      • Me at home says:

The Middlebums grifted a ride on the mega-yacht, so Kate’s presence seems pretty assured. And I doubt Abu Dhabi’s foreign minister would lend out his private jets and mega-yacht if William weren’t on board, he’s the heir even if he’s no global statesman. Good news is, the yacht is big enough that they never have to see each other–maybe that was part of the attractions of this particular vacation?

      • BeanieBean says:

Oh, he’s on a yacht. I can’t believe he’ll actually cut short his vacation. If he makes the game, that means they were already planning on coming home.

    • Tessa says:

It doesn’t look like he’s taking Charlotte people magazine saud he’s going solo

  4. Me at home says:

This is what he should be doing. It’s pathetic, though, that the British media can’t bring themselves to mention the G word.

Wonder if Charlotte will go? I was mad she didn’t go with William the other week. But now she’s legitimately enjoying a luxury vacation at sea (even if it’s a way OTT vacation). William should offer her the choice, wonder if he will.

    • Blogger says:

      The “G” word 😂

The country that must NOT be named.

    • SURE says:

It’s insulting to working people to hear that “..what he should be doing” is attending another soccer match. (Not a dig at you @meathome but rather the royal con).

      • MY3CENTS says:

Yup his “work” is normal people’s holiday/treat.
        Its offensive.

      • Dee(2) says:

And he looked like he sucked the lemon at the last game, definitely not how he looks like at the Aston Villa games. He definitely will view this as work and begrudge it, which is incredibly insulting.

The “work” that these people are being asked to do is to attend parades, go to the pubs, go to football matches, and tennis, and they act like this is the imposition!

I wonder how annoyed non-royalists are that spend tons of money to secure tickets and have to take off of work to attend those same events, feel about them acting like it’s the hardest thing ever for them to attend.

      • Me at home says:

As a working person myself, I get that it’s insulting! I guess he’s got some role in the soccer federation, so it’s “duty” in some lame way, but it’s hardly work as the rest of us know it.

  5. Blogger says:

Poor diddums 😂 Oh no! He has to work which means…leaving the Foreign Minister’s yacht to go to a corporate box and watch a football match. Such hard work! Such a hard life!

Looking forward to some grainy pap shots as Willy scurries away from his hidey hole like the cockroach he is. Chopper or speed boat 🤔 maybe a UAE submarine would be good at this stage.

Who will pay for this Kefalonia-Switzerland jaunt? Will he ask his host because asking the taxpayer to foot the bill is getting rich at this stage.

  6. Noor says:

How can a heir to the British throne accept a free yacht holiday in Greece from the Dubai foreign minister for himself and family plus in-laws. No questions asked in Parliament or the media.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Yes it is pretty shocking. Any other government official and politician would loose their job over something like this – but it is a-ok for the future HoS.

  7. Jais says:

Please, he’s going to go from yacht to helicopter to private plane, watch a game and then head back. He might be annoyed but it’s really nothing. He’ll be yachting again in no time.

  8. Oh so sad he has to leave his Greek vacation to watch a football match in Switzerland. Oh the humanity!!

  9. J.Ferber says:

This is beautiful payback to the glowering prince forced to watch women’s sports at all. Chef’s kiss. He won’t bring Charlotte because a) at least he can punish a female, any female, to show his royal distemper and b) he must do things the Cambridge way (the peevish, stupid way). They’ll probably lose because of his toxic energy. His rage-watchimg will be a pleasure to see. P.S. I do use “distemper” intentionally bc it’s a ferret’s disease, which THEY do not deserve.

  10. ParkRunMum says:

Do you guys remember long ago when we were in pre-Brexit, pre-Sussexit time, in another era, when William and Kate took a brief skiing holiday in either France or Switzerland, when their kids were toddlers, and the British press went absolutely apesh*it? They were super indignant. Like, spitting bile. And it all struck me as…. Unhinged. I mean. They even provided photos to the Rota, they were inoffensive, very happy-families stuff, nothing unusual, but obviously posed / staged, and it was obviously offered in good faith, but the backlash was unhinged and absolutely bonkers. I say this only becuase it struck me at the time as vindictive and absurd, like, plenty of families go skiing, yes, they are fortunate, but really? WTF did you expect them to be doing??? Cleaning the gutters at KP, fixing the roof at BP? Really? I say this only to underline the point that the pretext cited for the full-blown meltdown in the press, here, was that these were “foreign” travels, and so, the Rota expected to be involved in every stage of the planning. Like, the idea of them taking a private family holiday — in another country — was so taboo as to be trigger to this pile-on. I say this only to illustrate a larger phenomenon: the UK press was not pro-Cambridge, as they were at the time. They gleefully covered the lads’ trip that William took to Switzerland when he missed the Commonwealth service, likely to his grandmother’s chagrin. Those photos were plastered all over every tabloid. My premise? There were serious issues with Will & Kate *long* before Meghan came on the scene. And I think had the relationship between the press, and William, been less adversarial — not to say seething — then the whole meltdown over Sussexit would not have happened in remotely the same way. I just think they were out for blood. On both sides. Well done to Good King Harry for leaving his brother and the media to feast on each other. If you do a longitudinal survey of the British coverage, they have quite literally done a 180-degree turn, which makes them look absolutely ridiculous. To quote Lady Colin Campbell, who has occasionally made the odd good point: “the empty vessel makes the loudest noise.”

    • Lady Digby says:

Thank you @Parkrunmum for your observations on W getting a duffing up from the infamous British press over a skiing holiday. I think they have been biding their time and waiting for W to really blot his copy book before giving him the works! Kate’s uncertain health last year bought them time but patience with Wilbur is running out!

    • Becks1 says:

I remember that trip and part of the issue with it- the biggest issue – was that the press was not told ahead of time and THEN the picture was released to the press as a way to stop the criticism (so it was not offered in good faith, but rather to stem the bleeding so to speak.)

The relationship between the press and the royal family is very toxic obviously and the press definitely feels a sense of ownership, so when the Cambridges took vacations without telling them, they (the press) took it personally. The press will provide cover for them and defend them and lie for them (see trip to jordan a few years ago) but they aren’t willing to do so if they’re not in the loop.

That said, I agree completely that there were genuine issues with W&K themselves and with their relationship with the press well before H&M came on the scene. The Sussexes just gave them something to throw to the press instead of their marriage, their vacations, etc. Now that the press has less to say about the Sussexes – they dont shut up about them lol but the hit pieces are landing the same – they may turn towards the Waleses.

      • Gabby says:

“The press will provide cover for them and defend them and lie for them (see trip to jordan a few years ago) but they aren’t willing to do so if they’re not in the loop.”

Surely the Wales’ have to offer the press something else. Merely keeping them in the loop doesn’t sound like enough hush money.

    • Square2 says:

“…I say this only becuase it struck me at the time as vindictive and a
bsrd, like, plenty of families go skiing, yes, they are fortunate, but really? WTF did you expect them to be doing??? …”

Ah, before 2018, the then Cambridges were:

      1. As lazy as ever, did as little works as possible. They only became “full time” Royals in 2017.

      2. They were hostile towards the Rota press, and not greeting or cooperating with press photographers to hive them good pictures.

      3. The Middletons contacted only Paparazzi to captured “candid” photos of KkK8 or her with kid(s) when it suited the Middleton PR.

And many more reasons for everyday working people to criticized them back then.

      • Lady Digby says:

PoW supposedly became full time royals in 2017 but that is a misnomer because they do the hokey cokey with public appearances 1 or 2 days a week for 7 months of the year having 5 months on holiday with their kids!

      • kirk says:

Middletons contacted paparazzi? Thought back in the day, pix all came from Kitty so she could collect royaltie$ – rota u$ed to complain, gue$$ why? Too bad she got burned with photo kill notices last year.

    • Betsy says:

Plato said it first. (Empty vessels)

    • Tessa says:

I cannot stand lady Campbell who puts out fake stories about Meghan and wrote a nasty book about Meghan

  11. Mslove says:

Global family man Peg should take the whole family to watch the game. But his family is just for show. A prop to be used for PR purposes.

  12. Beverley says:

Poor sausage! He’s gotta leave a luxury cruise hosted by an Arab oil baron to be forced to attend a prominent high stakes sporting event. What a rough life!

  13. Eurydice says:

“Both William and wife Kate have been away from royal duties over the last week to spend time with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who are on their summer holidays from school.”

Wow, this is an awfully coy way of covering up “sailing the Ionian Sea in an Abu Dhabi-owned mega yacht.” I’ll bet the yacht has a helipad for William to get to a nearby airport so he can take a private plane to the Euro final.

    • Lady Digby says:

Are they being satirical about PoW having two months off every Summer, to enjoy “rare” family time with their young children ?! No need to be coy about this pair putting their private life above or instead of ” a so called life of public service “!

    • jais says:

Ha! That’s genuinely what I was thinking. That the yacht prob has a helipad. Honestly, William is lucky the finals are so close and he’s only traveling from Greece to Switzerland. It cannot be that long of a trip. Was he also on a yacht when he missed the finals in Australia?

    • Kirk says:

TWO helipads according to Hindustan Times, who referenced Greek sources.

      • jais says:

Well, there ya go. That man is fine. Adding some numbers to the CC and then heading back to the yacht. Cool cool cool. It’s the secrecy that gets me. The BM/royal rota love to gossip and yet not a word. Of course we know why. No surprise there. The invisible contract is contracting. I do remember those pics of Harry and his cousins skiing and the paps invading and Diana asking them to please back off after being given photos. I don’t actually wish that for the Wales kids. But the BM can absolutely discuss the fact that the family is on a yacht in Greece. And who owns the yacht. All that can be discussed and written about without paps getting in the kids’ faces. It’s not about protecting the kids. It’s about protecting the monarchy.

      • Me at home says:

You can see both helipads in the pictures here, one in the front and one in the back: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/prince-william-and-kate-are-vacationing-on-opera-world-s-most-secretive-megayacht-254836.html

We saw with Charles’ comms person’s meltdown last week that BP will absolutely cut off access to any reporter–and their media group!–who doesn’t follow the palace line. In this case I believe the palace line is “you can’t report on the Wales’ vacation for important security reasons,” although of course it’s OK to report on every other royal’s vacations. And no matter that the UAE prince has, according to some reports, provided no less than six companion protection ships to accompany Opera. But even the tabloids broke that stricture when they reported on Bulliam skipping BAFTAs for Mustique–wonder if they’ll feel as free when the Wales family is “safely” back in Britain?

  14. L4Frimaire says:

Interesting how they avoid saying vacation or holiday. Just time away. Also for all intents and purposes after not going to Australia, he was basically demoted from president to patron.

    • BeanieBean says:

Also the whole ‘they’ve been taken away…by their children’. Their kids run the show, do they? They just HAD to go to Greece, because of the kids?

  15. Tessa says:

Break from royal duties. What a laugh. The royal duties are usually watching sports

  16. Lady Digby says:

Who do we think ordered Wilbur to attend the Euro final? Because his own common sense didn’t tell him when the Lionesses reached the final in 2023?

  17. Tessa says:

The wails have a lot of down time to be with the children between school breaks. And those school runs. To spend time with the kids it must mean having lavish vacations

  18. Nicole says:

I actually think he was thrilled to get away from his “loving” wife and his kiss ass mother-in-law for a short stint.

    • Kirk says:

Snort. All he has to do is go to the other side of the boat.

    • e. says:

William married Kate because that mother-in-law worships the ground he walks on which he thinks everyone else should too. Nobody else wanted him and they paid for all those holidays and kept Kate in his orbit so she’d finally bag the man she ruthlessly stalked.

  19. Kake says:

Knowing Peggy’s major match history…..I send condolences to the Lady Lionesses. And I agree with a number of posters, Buttons is on a single parent holiday.

  20. BeanieBean says:

I notice the Dim left out the WHERE of this family vacay. Covering for the heir, as per usual.

  21. Tessa says:

People magazine reports that William and Charlotte will have a lot to talk about when he returns from the game meaning he isn’t taking her to the game. Typical of him to leave her out
