Jennifer Lopez: which Oscar dress is worse?

wenn5440686

I completely forgot Jennifer Lopez’s “bubble wrap dress” when I was doing the fashion posts earlier today, although I did mention on the live red carpet post that I thought it looked horrible. At first, on television, I thought the Armani Privé dress was polka-dotted, white on pale pink or something like that. Now that I’m looking at photos of it, I still think the fabric is weird, but not as bad as before. Unfortunately, the fabric wasn’t the only problem. The problem was the cut, the design, the weirdness of it. New York Magazine notes that Vogue’s André Leon Talley claimed it was his “favorite dress of the night” but NY Mag also snarks that it “looked like it had a vagina flapping off of it.” What’s wrong with that?!? Haha.

What was worse, in my opinion, was that Jennifer decided that she would be one of the chosen Oscar attendees who needed a costume change before hitting the party circuit. Now, I get why, like, a nominee or a winner would want to change: because they probably sweated through their Oscar clothes. But Jennifer? Why does she need a costume change? And why this dress (below)? If you thought you hated her Oscar dress, I give you this fugness:

Oh, Jennifer. Why can’t you just be normal? Your normal is fabulous enough. And did you notice it’s not just a costume change? She completely redid her hair and makeup too! But she’s got the same open-mouthed, “I’m too sexy for this fug” expression! I swear, that was accidental on my part, I didn’t mean to pick two photos where she’s making the same hilarious face! Good Lord, this woman!

I actually like the black dress better than the white one, Jlo and her come hither look is getting old.

  2. lucy2 says:

Not so much in this photo, but giant thing attached to the pink dress made her hips/butt look huge on TV. Not a good choice for a great but curvier figure, and I can’t figure out how she fit in her seat. I don’t particularly like either dress, but I’d assume she changed because that first dress was so bulky, plus it’s a whole other round of photos of her that then go out there.

  3. Lady Jane says:

What is going on with her hair in the top photo? The front is what my hair looks like when I throw it up into a bun/half ponytail when I wake up in the morning. All those little fly away pieces sticking straight out. What a mess.

  4. juiceinla says:

I was just asking about this- originally I thought she and Amanda Seyfred wore the same dress -and cackled gleefully at the idea of J-schmo showing up in the same dress as another, in what surely would have been the ultimate Oscar red carpet disaster.

But instead she wore bubble wrap.. So much better!!!!!

  5. Ron says:

Oh poor Jenny from the Mall. The pink dress looks like an old barbie dress from the 60’s. Solo in the Spotlight I think it’s called. The black thing looks like something from the Forever 21 sale rack.

  6. Alecto says:

close your darn mouth you look stupid!!!

  7. LOVE ANGELINA says:

The Black dress is fierce. The bubble wrap monstrosity is terrible. JLO should have thought twice. It’s kinda cute, but It just didn’t look good on her.

  8. Tia C says:

Well, the second one is better than the first one. That’s about the nicest thing I can say. Has she acted in anything lately? I’m wondering why she is even at the Oscars.

  9. CC says:

JLo’s had far worse Oscar looks IMO (remember the see-through gray one? and the pink one with the poofy hair?) She looked pretty I thought. The pink armani wasn’t a great dress, true, but it was fr better than some of the other ones that night.

  10. gonzo says:

the first dress is gorgeous…she clearly went for a vintage inspired theme. the white one reminds me of rita hayworth from the 40s, and the black one looks like those long bias-cut gowns from the 1930s. too bad she had to ruin it with her face.

  11. Fifthpocket says:

It’s the same fabric as Amanda Seyfried’s dress. Maybe it’s a new thing.

  12. Jackson says:

She is pathetic. If she put in half as much time trying to learn how to act as she does trying to get attention she might be watchable in something.

  13. Erin says:

Haha look at the guy on the top right in the first picture…his expression says exactly what I was thinking.lol

  14. Weeble says:

None of the men in the first pic seem to have a problem with her dress, LOL.

  15. Patrice says:

I honestly have to say that I really couldn’t care LESS about what J.Lo wears, but WTF is up with that quintessential, open mouthed-squinty eyed “breathy” face that she’s always making on the red carpet (like in the first picture above)??!!! God it just makes her look like she’s trying for “sexy” waaaaaay too hard and comes off looking like a major idiot in the process! C’mon Jennifer, let’s give this one up.

  16. Patrice says:

Oh, and just WHY exactly was she even at the Oscars to begin with??

  17. Gigohead says:

She should have stayed with the black dress. It made her thunder thighs smaller. The Pink looks like she is vomiting from her thighs. It’s too Barbie. Would have suited a young prom girl not JLo.

  18. ER says:

In the top pic who’s the man over Jen’s left shoulder (the man with glasses and the grey tie)? Kinda reminds me of William Shatner.

  19. anonymei says:

I think she looks stunning in both dresses. I thought she would be on every best dressed list when I saw her walk the red carpet.

  20. Kolby says:

I like both dresses. Both she and Amanda Seyfried wore Armani Prive, and their stylists obviously chose the same exact fabric in different colors. It’s usually something avoided at all costs, no?

  21. maggie says:

Too bad that people that know nothing about fashion are the ones that write their comments here…..I thought she looked liked the lady that she is, in both dresses….

  22. ruru says:

I love the kimono in the first pic.

  23. Novaraen says:

JLo’s and Amanda’s dress were made by the same designer…that’s why there is a similarity in fabric. 🙂

JLo’s “I’ve gotta poop” face is so ridiculous.

  24. hannah says:

    @maggie,

well thankfully you are here to enlighten us. the rest of us fashion-challenged are so grateful that you have decided to bless us with the correct opinion of the dresses.

lol, i think the thing about fashion is that it is like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. and although runway fashion is often too much for average people to enjoy fully, this is a red carpet, not the runway in paris. They are trying to impress the general public, as we are the ones who hire them in the end, not the fashion critics, IMHO.

  25. GatsbyGal says:

I don’t care how high-fashion or expensive something is…if it looks like shit, it’s shit. Bottom line.

  26. ViktoryGin says:

I’m in the minority, I guess, in that I didn’t hate the first dress. Don’t like it either. What I did find unforunate, however, was how it framed her figure on the bottom. (Not easily viewable in these photos.) Why do she and curvy celebs like Beyonce insist on wearing these hip-accentuating gowns? Congratulations on flaunting your diversity in stick thin Hollywood; but ladies, these gowns are not your friends. When you’ve got ass for days, trust that its expression will take care of itself. When they go to great lengths to emphasize it, it usually ends up being too much.

  27. TG says:

I did love this dress until I saw this picture and see that it is made of bubble wrap and I don’t like the cut of the dress, the part that cuts up her leg is a weird shape, but I love the silhouette on her.

  28. Mimi says:

You know that plastic with bubbles of air that came in boxes involving products to protect them from impact and that is really fun to pop at first but then you can stop pop and get frustrated and irritated because your fingers are hurting but even so you still can not stop pop the DAMN thing… That is what this horrible dress reminds me of and now I want to pop the ugliness of that dress until my fingers start to hurt.

  29. Liya says:

The black dress is fashion foward but still understated, if you will, what with the ruffle and all.

Ahem, Cameron Diaz was not nominated for anything either and she ALSO changed into a second outfit. Why single out one actor when a few do the same?

  30. Tru says:

Where was Skeletor??? or did he not want any parts of this mess..

she is toooo extra and its not attractive, its like she’s trying to force us to beleive she is HOT..

bring it down a notch girl, please!!

  31. a says:

gosh I hate to say it but I enjoyed both outfits! I am not a huge J-lo fan, but I think the woman has great style

  32. Lady D says:

@ ruru: I agree, its gorgeous.

  33. Popcorny says:

The first dress makes her look as if she made festive an undeveloped Siamese-twin and her exhaustedly messy hair looks as if she just delivered it 20 minutes ago.

  34. nana says:

i find the dresses beautiful and jlo has amazing body. hot mama!

  35. p3rp3tu4 says:

The Bed matress Pad / Quilted Northern / bed skirt replica dress is not the best. Carefree pantyliner ad is a go.

  36. wizeguy says:

she is an ugly over-rated self important bimbo ..
and if she removes them hi heels her ass will hit the floor …very short little legs with the big pumpkin head & ass ..eugh!
    give it up …
the first dress made her a laughing stock so the black dress much much better….
yeah, very funny about the facial expression ..
not only in the 2 pics but in every pic …
she is an imbecile & so is hubby …

  37. Jazz says:

I just wanna pop the bubble wrap on her dress! The black one would of looked better without the ruffle.

  38. Toe says:

@ Ruru + Lady D. I wanted to see that kimono dress.
The pink dress cloth is so thick, you would imagine she would look huge in it, but it fitted her perfectly. It’s the design of the dress that sucks. The pale pink looks nice on her color. The black dress is fierce, i liked it

  39. Monique says:

I can’t believe Mr.Jay Manual and Joan River thought this was best dress on the Fashion Police. I’m getting readyto move I can use her dress for wrap up my glassware.

  40. ogechi says:

Yes this woman! She is the most gorgeous woman on earth!! I love Jlo and the dresses are cute on her. Have twins, nurse them and lets see how u look!

  41. CeeCee12 says:

When she walked across the stage in that bubble thing I cringed. It made her look much heavier than she is.
The black one looked like a high school girl’s idea of looking glamorous.

  42. Scarlet Vixen says:

I saw pics of the first dress on some other sites (can’t remember which-sorry!) and she looked humongous. She’s NOT humongous, so don’t wear a dress that makes you look shorter and twice as wide as you are (especially when it’s made out of bubblewrap)! I like the black dress much better. Well, except for her nips on display. What is it with JLo breakin’ out the nips at the Oscars? Remember the sheer grey blouse with fur eyelashes several years ago? Put the nips away please. 🙂

  43. paranel says:

She just doesn’t have the firm toned shoulders and arms that these dresses demand. She looks better cover them up.

  44. Wresa says:

Tru- I agree. It’s like, “we would all think think you were beautiful if you stopped trying to convince us you were so hot!” The facial expressions are so contrived. She is more likable when she is just smiling and acting natural!

  45. cathy says:

I thought all the dresses were fantastic. I am fed up of people being so bitchy about sensational women who frock up in fine style. OK some of them weren’t quite my style – but that’s me. I can appreciate that these women spend time and money on looking fabuious – and mostly, they do.I couldn’t even start to compete. And how many of you could?

  46. amar says:

there was one picture that showed her from the side and it looked great
    i liked it

  47. Marsha says:

    Alot of jennifer hate here!

Hehehehehee i guess sometimes when you like somethin too much you also get phobic to it ->>> LMFAO!!

  48. yeayea says:

i thought the same thing—bubble rap. also, it is kate hudson’s golden globe dress jlo’d up a bit.

  49. Sams says:

Yes that 2010 oscar dress was horrid. Those idiots on tv said her dress was nice no way it was awful!
