Over the weekend, there was an interesting claim that Netflix approached Prince Harry about the possibility of producing or participating in a documentary (or docuseries) about his mother, Princess Diana. The approach apparently happened when the Sussexes were negotiating their new Netflix contract, and Netflix wants the documentary to be released in 2027, for the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death. I said that I believed that Netflix has approached Harry about doing something, but I have no idea if Harry is open to it. But the stories are enough to upset “Prince William’s friends,” who now claim that if Harry does a doc, William will too.
Prince William and Prince Harry could end up making rival films about their mother Princess Diana, to mark the 30th anniversary of her death in two years’ time.
Representatives for Prince Harry’s Archewell production company are already talking to TV industry insiders about a new documentary about Diana, to mark the 30th anniversary of her death, The Royalist can reveal. William will be uneasy about Harry “claiming her legacy” and will feel bound to respond with his own contribution if Harry goes ahead, a source said.
One senior executive at an independent production house in the U.K. told the Daily Beast: “Harry is looking to do a series about Diana in 2027. They want to get the right partners and we have had a conversation with them. I’m sure other production companies have too. An inside account of the implosion of Charles and Diana’s marriage and Harry’s story of Diana’s death and its aftermath would be the TV sensation of all time.”
Neither William nor Harry’s team would comment on the claims, but a friend of William’s told The Royalist, “The film the brothers made for the 20th anniversary was meant to be the last word. William made that very clear at the time. But of course things have changed since then. If Harry is now going to do another massive Netflix show effectively claiming her legacy, William will have to fight back, whether that’s with an interview or a documentary of his own. The whole situation is just very sad.”
The friend said William would be extremely unlikely to work with the BBC which he believes harmed his mother with the deceptive tactics used in its infamous Panorama interview. “It would be ridiculous to do it with the BBC,” they said.
Any intervention from Harry that questioned the official verdict on Diana’s death—that it was caused by her driver Henri Paul being drunk—would be sensational. It also could absolutely happen. In his memoir, Spare, Harry said the official explanation of her death “was an insult. Fanciful, riddled with factual errors and gaping logical holes, it raised more questions than it answered.”
In an interview with the BBC earlier this year, he hinted again at what I repeatedly have been told is his deeply held personal belief that there was more to his mother’s death than a speeding drunk driver, saying: “I don’t want history to repeat itself. I think… the majority [of people] also don’t want history to repeat itself. Through the disclosure process, I’ve discovered that some people want history to repeat itself, which is pretty dark.”
From reading Spare, it’s clear that Harry never believed the official stories about Diana’s death. But his belief has been compounded over time, that there were many other forces looking to take down or take out his mother. Everything that happened to his security in 2020, everything that happened since he and Meghan exited the UK has convinced him that there were some very dark forces behind Diana’s death, and those dark forces want to harm him and Meghan as well. A prince in his 40s, having lived past his mother’s age when she died, saying on the record and on camera that he believes that everyone was fed a cover story? It would be a huge deal. Now, would William try to release a competing project? LOL. I doubt it but mostly because I think he’s too lazy to even try. But if William does do something, he’ll probably call Harry “paranoid,” just like he called Diana the same.

I hope Harry does do a doc, and that he exposes the creepy security “board” that Charles controls and how it’s affected him personally.
I also hope Harry exposes how the palace and tabloids worked together to trash Diana, and links that to his personal experience. And that he reminds us that it was the paparazzi who chased Diana’s car into the tunnel, something the tabloids want us to forget.
Bulliam, the guy who called his own mother “paranoid” on the courthouse steps. A documentary from Bulliam should be… something. It’s not paranoia if they really are after you….
“If Harry is now going to do another massive Netflix show … William will have to fight back … with an interview …” That sounds pretty inline with Peg’s energy level. *yawn*
Maybe Bulliam could pre-record a two-minute video on the lawn of Forest Lodge. That’s about his energy level.
You overestimate him.
It will be a tweet!
An interview is too much. And it or a documentary in August would interfere with family time. A tweet or Instagram post. Signed W of course.
Oh lord here we go. Let the shit stirring begin on a project that isn’t even in existence.
You know what leaps out at me in those photos? The body language. William is *always* pointing at someone, at the camera, at someone off-camera, at the women who played in the football match, when he was introduced to them the other week, once, famously, at Meghan’s face, etc….. he just can’t help himself. I mean. WTF? “Kindly take your finger out of my face.” Slam. Wham. Thank you, ma’am. Meghan just *sounds* like a queen laying down the law to a rude, errant peasant. That would be William. It’s not like he was never taught how to behave. It’s not like he doesn’t know this is rude. So WTF? Is he just unable to contain his latent aggression from bursting the surface? Or is this his impression of what it takes to be “matey”? ….chumming it up with the oiks and the hoi polloi? Or is this just the influence of the infamous Middletons?
I don’t think anyone knows if Harry would do something or not. But it’s content to wonder about and an easy way to get William riled up. If it did happen, then yes, William would be livid. I’m just not sure that Harry would care if he was at this point.
Yes, the situation is sad. Because at the end of the day, it’s hard to come to terms that your father (in) directly had your mother killed.
It’s a messed up Greek tragedy for Diana and her boys but the focus should be on Chuck’s role here and his Rottweiler to destroy Diana.
Whatever Willy does doesn’t really matter. Can’t compete when you can’t compare.
I look forward to Harry’s doco if it does eventuate. Willy can go stew and brief his attack dogs again. After his disgraceful behaviour this year, I think less and less people care what the incandescent one does.
William is such a gd entitled baby. “William was very clear about that” William is not the boss of Harry, Harry can make another film if he wants to and doesn’t need W’s permission or blessing. Ridiculous that W has to imagine a “fight” but it just confirms what Spare implied about him: he’s an angry vindictive egotistical asshole who sees hostility everywhere he looks and can’t mind his own business ever.
So in other words if Prince Harry does produce a project about his Mother, then Peggy will slap his name on someone else’s project to claim he has one too.. and until then the rota have a story line to exploit.
William grandly announced that the 20th anniversary film would be the last word as part of his role in, what was at the time, an attempt to put the final nail in the shadow of Diana on his father’s future reign and William’s own sudden acquiescence to burying memory of Diana and blaming ONLY the BBC for what happened to her. Why should either of her children be limited in speaking about her? When William is King and it’s her birthday or 50th anniversary of her death he’ll refuse to mention it? It was a tactic by Charles and BP, to make it so that the media would not bring up how the family would mark her death on big anniversaries. And William agreed.
Good idea.
Diana was mother to both William and Harry and so they can do as many or as few documentaries as they want. Sons wanting to do something about their mother’s legacy makes sense.
What remains weird is when Kate tries to do Diana cosplay, including putting her children in clothing their uncle wore. Kate never even met Diana and it’s weird as hell every-time she tries to invoke her memory.
If George or Charlotte or Louis want to honour their paternal grandmother they can do so.
