The Studio took home the most awards at the Emmys last night, with Adolescence and Severance close behind. I only know a couple people who watched The Studio, and it didn’t get a ton of buzz. I’m sure it will pick up viewers after sweeping the Emmys. I wish Andor had more recognition, that show was sublime and so timely, but scifi doesn’t earn as many awards historically. Dan Gilroy deservedly won outstanding writing for a drama series, although I wouldn’t have been mad if either of The Pitt writers won that category.
Among the freshman shows, Paradise and Nobody Wants This didn’t earn any Emmys among multiple nominations. Dying for Sex also got shut out and I know Kismet loves that. It’s on my list! I didn’t watch Nobody Wants This and although it was popular people didn’t rave about it, you know? Paradise really suffered from uneven writing. There were too many writers without enough cohesion between story lines. Episode 7, The Day, was one of the best episodes on television and could have been a standalone movie. The conclusion of the season was ridiculous, and hopefully they’ll get their act together for season two.
Nominee Sterling K. Brown put off ACL surgery to attend the Emmys, which is why he came out on a scooter. This was adorable to me for some reason.

Nominee Julianne Nicholson was gorgeous in a structural fuschia strapless gown. I would have liked to see her in bolder makeup, but I’m a Gen X woman, that’s my default look.
Kristen Bell was very severe looking in an Armani Prive black and white sequin cuout gown. She’s the main reason I haven’t seen Nobody Wants This.

Kristen’s costar Justine Lupe was the earliest arrival I saw on the red carpet. She was a standout in a deep v-neck sequin net Carolina Herrera gown. This is a rare case of a see through gown getting it right, it’s a great balance between barely there and high fashion.

I really enjoyed Paradise and I’m looking forward to next season. I was planning to cancel Disney Plus until I stated watching it. I like Kristen Bell’s dress even though she is annoying, lol.
Same on both counts and I keep recommending it to people. I don’t know which episode it was, maybe the penultimate one, but where a bunch of stuff surfaced and I was SOBBING.
I just watched it recently and it was bingeable for sure.
My favorite of my college girlfriends and i went on a trip to see her kid at college in a little town in Delaware last fall.
We got a 2 bedroom airbnb, saw the kid, walked around the adorable town, and mostly sat around our airbnb watching Nobody Wants this (with the 20yo kid). It was great fun, very enjoyable. Perfect for escapism of living in a country that currently is sending people to concentration camps.
It is lovely. Award worthy? Perhaps.
Frankly, Andor should have won EVERYTHING.
But the Nobody Wants This series was adorable.
And i’ve suggested another trip after season 2 drops (this time to a place with no humans within at least a mile), my friend works in DC and lives in the outer MD suburbs, and she could use a break from the nazi regime.
But we will totally watch season 2.
As for finding Ms Bell annoying, i get that.
She will always be linked to incredible bas ass character Veronica Mars for me. And i love her for that role.
My favorite personal story of her is the one her husband tells about eating at a steakhouse in nashville, someone being upset her husband was casually dressed at a fine dining establishment, and her suggesting Dax pay for that guy’s dinner. (it is funnier when he tells it).
I used to follow the Emmy’s a lot and would be excited about them.
Now, I totally forgot they were happening.
Am focusing way more on politics now, both in my own European neighborhood as of other countries.
Seems like from a different era when this would be my news of the week.
Kristen Bell’s face work is obvious and bad. Can’t stand her or her husband. Same for Seth Rogen and his stoner schtick.
If KB wasn’t in Nobody Wants This I would definitely watch it.
I really do hear you all on the KBell being “a LOT” and smug and all that, but I still have to recommend you at least try Nobody Wants This. Like that is the premise… she is annoying (and gentile) and many, many people talk about that nonstop in the show! It’s kind of wish fulfillment, and Adam Brody could not be more charming.
I enjoyed Nobody Wants This but I’m not sure it was awards worthy so this seems right. I’m okay with Kristen Bell as an actor but her personal stuff puts me off, and her husband has always bugged me to no end.
I haven’t seen Andor but Dan Gilroy was recently a guest on a podcast I listen to and he was amazing, so sharp and funny. I just loved listening to him.
I feel like if Julianne Nicolson had worn a lip color that echoed her gown, the dress would have made more sense. It’s pretty severe looking to me and a bit of an odd contrast to her natural face.
Hi. Complete stranger here- encouraging you to watch Andor.
It is brilliant, incredibly timely to our world today. Relies on no star wars woo-woo.
It is about the every day involvement and cost of capitulating to the evil empire and fighting against it.
The costumes (Senator Mon Mothma) are gorgeous.
And of the star wars shows, it was perhaps the only one not filmed on greenscreen- the sets are amazing.
Whether you’re a star wars fan or not- doesn’t matter- it is wonderful television.
I have friends everywhere.
I had one of those devices when I had foot surgery. I called it my kneelie wheelie! It’s a life saver in that situation.
