Ayo Edebiri wore a slinky Chanel to the ‘After the Hunt’ LFF premiere

Here are some photos from this past weekend’s London Film Festival premiere of After the Hunt. The actors are bound and determined to have this film be part of the awards-season conversation, so here you go. I actually think it’s a good bet, and I wonder if they’re going to put some money into the campaign. It’s Julia Roberts, after all. And Ayo Edebiri, who is still riding a “critical darling” wave. Both ladies came out for the BFI LFF screening, alongside Andrew Garfield, who is clearly trying to be the “Jonathan Bailey” of this film (meaning, besties with his female costars).

Ayo’s style is so interesting to me. In London, she wore Chanel – a white silk/satin gown with rosettes and a slinky, Old Hollywood feel. I remember in 2023-24, when she was sweeping up awards for The Bear, being impressed with her offbeat awards-season style. She was always dressed appropriately, but you could feel that she’s a student of fashion and she cares about telling certain stories with her style, and her story was more eccentric than a cookie-cutter starlet. The vibe I’m getting from her choices for ATH’s premieres is that she’s conscious of the fact that this is a really big deal for her career, starring in a movie with Julia Roberts, directed by Luca Guadagnino, and she’s being very careful to do everything “right.” Perhaps a bit too safe, but I understand why she’s making these choices, and hey, she’s getting paid as a Chanel ambassador now! They’re actually giving her some good looks, because some of Chanel’s brand ambassadors wander around looking like the wrath of god. All that being said, those clip-in bangs are tragique!! Mon deux.

As for Julia, she wore a Bottega Veneta suit/tuxedo which… eh. I’m fine with any woman doing menswear-inspired looks and god knows, I appreciate a woman in a suit. But this is bad!! It reminds me of the conductor costumes worn by Cate Blanchett in Tar. Andrew looked nice though. His “visit to Turkey” is finally settling in.

I just realised that when I see ‘Chanel’ in a headline now my default reaction is ‘oh no/what now’. This is pleasantly inoffensive but I wish they’d get their vibe back.

With the new designer at the head of Chanel I think we will be getting better partnerships like this one. This is a lovely dress on Ayo.

OK, stupid question: what is a “Visit to Turkey.” From the comment that it is “settling in,” I gather that is plastic surgery? And why would such a young person need any? My son and I are going to Tijuana to get dental work done, so it’s not like I’m in a positiont to be lording it over anyone.

I think it’s alluding to a possible hair transplant

Turkish hair transplants are apparently the new “implants in Brazil.” It sounds appallingly painful, but hey! Let’s share the burden of impossible beauty standards with men for once!

At end of second paragraph, I think you meant to write, ‘Mon dieu’, which means ‘My God’. “Mon deux’ means ‘My two’.

I really like her dress and she looks great. Julia looks great too but she wears basically this same look so often, I wish she’d break it up a little.

Andrew is very charming in person. Check out Chicken Shop Date on YouTube. Bailey also did that show and was also charming. I don’t think they imitate each other.

I love this dress for Ayo because honestly, we’ve seen some very ugly stuff in other Chanel ambassadors.

One couldn’t tell Julia’s tuxedo was made by Bottega Veneta. That’s not a very good fitting.
I’m all for Andrew’s flare pants and Tunisian (?) style top, but the grey veste’s not good.
