Donald Trump forgot to say that he’s demolishing the entire White House East Wing

Months ago, Donald Trump announced his plan to build a gigantic, gaudy new “White House ballroom” on the east side of the WH campus. He actually said, repeatedly and on the record, that the plan was to build a big ballroom adjacent to the existing structure, and perhaps attach the ballroom to the mansion via some kind of breezeway. Like everything that comes out of that ugly orange man’s mouth, all of that was a lie. Several days ago, construction started on the ballroom. Scratch that – construction has NOT started, because they’re too busy demolishing the White House’s East Wing. On Wednesday, the White House confirmed that the entirety of the East Wing will be demolished by this weekend.

The White House is demolishing the entirety of the East Wing to make way for President Trump’s $200 million ballroom, a construction project that is far more extensive than he initially let on, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.

The tear-down should be finished by this weekend, according to the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the plans. When Mr. Trump first announced his plans for the ballroom, he pledged that the East Wing wouldn’t be touched by the construction.

“It’ll be views of the Washington Monument. It won’t interfere with the current building. It’ll be near it but not touching it,” the president said. “And pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of.”

But, upon further evaluation, the White House determined it was cheaper and more structurally sound to demolish the East Wing to construct the ballroom, rather than build an addition, the official said. The new structure will also have enhanced security features, the official said.

[From The NY Times]

The few wide-perspective shots of that side of the White House already showed just how extensive the project is, but it’s pretty crazy that Trump has been lying his ass off for months, and then mid-demolition, he’s like “oh year, we’re taking this whole thing down.” Historic preservationists are really upset, obviously:

Photos of construction teams knocking down parts of the East Wing, first revealed by The Washington Post on Monday, shocked preservationists, raised questions about White House overreach and lack of transparency, and sparked complaints from Democrats that President Donald Trump was damaging “the People’s House” to pursue a personal priority.

“They’re wrecking it,” said Martha Joynt Kumar, a political scientist and professor emeritus at Towson University in Maryland. “And these are changes that can’t be undone. They’re destroying that history forever.”

A White House spokesman said that the “entirety” of the East Wing would eventually be “modernized and rebuilt.”

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a nonprofit created by Congress to help preserve historic buildings, sent a letter Tuesday to administration officials, warning that the planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom “will overwhelm the White House itself,” which is about 55,000 square feet. “We respectfully urge the Administration and the National Park Service to pause demolition until plans for the proposed ballroom go through the legally required public review processes,” Carol Quillen, National Trust’s CEO, said in a statement, citing two federal commissions that have traditionally reviewed White House additions.

White House officials dismissed the criticism as “manufactured outrage,” arguing that past presidents had pursued their own changes to the executive campus as necessary. They said that the privately funded ballroom will be a “bold, necessary addition” to the presidential grounds.

“For more than a century, U.S. Presidents have been renovating, expanding, and modernizing the White House to meet the needs of the present day,” the White House’s rapid-response team posted on social media, listing examples of prior campus construction.

The Treasury Department on Monday evening instructed employees not to take or share photos of the construction project without permission, according to a person who spoke on the condition of anonymity to detail an internal email. The Treasury headquarters is next to the White House, with some of its offices providing a close view of the East Wing. But areas where the demolition is viewable are closed to the public, fueling criticism about the Trump administration’s lack of transparency.

One of the people who witnessed the demolition Tuesday said that views of the site from Treasury headquarters amplify the demolition, but a large part of the structure remained by late afternoon. However, it appeared that what remained was also headed for demolition, with no evidence that the structure was being protected and only jagged damage visible in the exposed building.

[From WaPo]

“U.S. Presidents have been renovating, expanding, and modernizing the White House to meet the needs of the present day.” Yeah, during the Cold War, the space UNDER the White House was dug out and filled with rooms/shelters and tunnels which could conceivably survive a massive bomb or terrorist attack. We’re not talking about security upgrades, nor are we talking about “Michelle Obama adding a vegetable garden.” Trump didn’t consult with anyone before ripping out the entire East Wing of the People’s House.

It’s a disgrace that he just went and did that without any approval. Typical.

I swear he’s going to try and rent it out for weddings and bar mitzvah’s.

    • TOM says:

Didn’t I read that he did exactly this sort of thing as a Manhattan developer? Also, my theory is that he’s raised maybe $20 million for this stupid ballroom and his DOJ grift of however many millions for damages is to make up the difference.

      • paintybox says:

He’s now my prime suspect for the Louvre jewel heist. Kidding but not kidding!

      • Blithe says:

And his — and other — donations will be structured as tax deductions, so that’s at least a potential triple layer of crimes and profits.

      • Isabella says:

He’s now saying it will be $300 million. Only a $100 million increase! Supposedly he’ll put in some of his own $$ (ha ha ) and the rest will come from corporations, many of whom have contracts with the government. Huge conflict of interest. Meanwhile Trump’s trying to get $230 million from the government for all his prosecutions. I really hate Meta, Amazon, Google etc., bending the knee yet again. Imagine if they were spending their cash on helping democracy. Seems like the more money you have, the more you want.

We will all be remiss in our duties if we do not call this the Epstein Files Wing.

  2. IdlesAtCranky says:

He’s trying to destroy our democracy and recreate America as a fascist dictatorship.

Is this physical demonstration of that truth really a surprise?

Let’s see the unredacted Epstein files.

Seems to be a parallel for what he’s doing to the country. What a waste.

  4. Brassy Rebel says:

People who know about such things say that demolitions can be done with great care if they must be done. This isn’t that. They must have instructed the machine operators to pretend they are dinosaurs attacking a building in Jurassic Park. Right now, the scene looks like Ground Zero following 9/11. This is Trump’s brand. Destroy and decimate. The man’s brain is rotting chaos and he wants the whole world to look like that. He knows the White House is where many people much better than him lived and worked as they did good things for the American people. Thus, he must destroy and put his mark on it like a dog peeing on a lamp post. He is giving Hitler a run for his money as the worst person to ever come to power.

    • DaveW says:

I live in a historic New England town; you absolutely can do major historic renovations while making modern updates. An example is our town hall, built in the 1800’s. Sometime in the 1970’s an addition was put on to make more office space and a council chamber. It didn’t look awful, but also wasn’t particularly well designed/built. When the town decided to remove/replace, they worked closely with various historic agencies on the design as well as destruction.

Removing the addition took multiple days, NOT hours (and this addition was maybe 1/3 the size of the East Wing). And while you can clearly tell the old vs new, the new carried over many of the historical details, ie moldings, brickwork, etc as feasible.

My other thought, looking at the gaping hole at the WH, is did they follow protocols for asbestos, lead and any other hazardous materials or airborne particles? Because those are also normally at play when tearing down any old building.

      • Blithe says:

As to the asbestos, lead, and other hazards, it’s very doubtful that standard safety protocols were followed. It’s small comfort, but at least some of those most responsible for the destruction are also those closest to the particulates.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

Thanks for bringing up the point about the environmental impact, @DaveW. You know there must be asbestos and lead in that building. So there is another parallel to Ground Zero. It’s now a hazardous waste site. I hope the 🍊💩 stain walks around in it—a lot.

      • BeanieBean says:

If trump had done the appropriate review per federal regulations environmental impacts would have been discussed & proscribed. You tear down an old building you need to demonstrate your plans for the doing of it & well as the disposal of it. These clowns did neither.

As an FYI, one of the projects I was working on right before retirement hit such a snag. I was supposed to monitor the work (archaeologist)–which was tearing down 1940s-era housing–until somebody discovered oops! there was nothing in the contract about asbestos disposal. So the contract had to be modified.

And of course, in addition to completely ignoring the historical architecture & landscape of the White House–there’s no archaeological oversight either! They’re not just knocking down a building, they’ll be digging into the earth as well.

  5. Bumblee says:

See, this is what he is doing to the entire country. And yet, people still defend him. Cowards.

  6. ThetGirlThere says:

He’ll probably tear down the entire structure. He’s not planning on leaving. My broke ass still doesn’t know if I’m going to make my way to Canada or stay and fight for my country. I’m so disgusted and tired.

    • paintybox says:

I agree, @ThatGirlThere, he is not planning on leaving. 😱 He’ll say he now owns the White House because he personally spent squillions on making it great again. But will shake down the American people for that money, over and over again. Or will demand a billion dollars + for the property to make him or his toxic family leave (but I don’t think he’ll leave) and the Supreme Toady Court will rule in his favor. I made this comment elsewhere but I would not be at all surprised if he was behind the Louvre jewels theft. A cherry-picker? Fake construction workers? Crown jewels? Right up his alley.

  7. inge says:

    Where are the democrats?

Why are they letting him get away with this?

Such a major part of US history that you are never getting back.

    • blue says:

Dems are the minority party & cannot win a vote without help from some honorable Republicans (GOP.) Where are they? Aren’t there any good ones who won’t kowtow to the orange creep who behaves like a spoiled selfish toddler? The cowardly GOP congress does nothing to impede the trampling of democracy.

      • salmonpuff says:

More Democrats need to start putting their bodies on the line. I deeply admire those who have endured assault and arrest trying to inspect immigrant detention centers. And Sen. Van Hollen who traveled to Ecuador for his kidnapped constituent. Even Merkley speaking for 22 hours on the Senate floor was something. But there needs to be WAY more coordinated action with everyone SHOWING that democrats have our backs and won’t back down.

This is just not the time for sternly worded letters or poorly attended press conferences on the Capitol steps. They need to be standing in between their constituents and ICE/the National Guard. They should be holding press conferences as close to the East Wing as they can get, explaining how Trump is demolishing Eleanor Roosevelt’s legacy (and the contributions of generations of First Ladies).

I know a lot of them are elderly and none of them thought there would be a lot of personal risk to the job, but they’re some of the only people in federal government who are actually getting paid right now (and paid handsomely), so they should freaking act like it.

      • Blithe says:

Jamie Raskin, Van Hollen, and Alsobrooks — all from Maryland, have been very vocal and very active. Many others have been as well. The problem with holding “press conferences” is that the press is no longer neutral. Political power in a winner-takes-all society is easy to diminish, especially in the short term. The architects of what is now the MAGA party have been setting this in place since the civil rights triumphs of the 50’s and 60’s. And it really isn’t about the Democrats as a political party — it’s about all citizens who value Democracy standing up for Democracy, instead of hoping that elected officials will somehow save us. At the very least, it’s time for a general strike.

      • Kitten says:

“They need to be standing in between their constituents and ICE/the National Guard”

I think this more so than the press conferences. Sadly, we live in an attention economy so Dems need to engage in attention-getting behavior. Nobody sees the pressers because the media and American public’s eyes are trained on Trump and all the insane shit he’s doing day in and day out.

    • NotMika says:

In opposition. Where your country voted them to be.

    • Becks1 says:

I do think the Democrats could be a little stronger on messaging here. But overall there’s not a lot they CAN do. The Republicans either agree with Trump or are too afraid of him to do anything to stop him.

Democrats don’t have any real power here.

      • Kitten says:

They could stop voting for Trump’s nominees to start. They could hold the floor more often to delay the GOP agenda–it’s not much but it would at least annoy the shit out of Republicans. They could bring forth articles of impeachment.

Prop 50 in CA and shutting down the government over healthcare are both good ways of fighting back but I bet there are a lot more things that they can do even with their limited power that they haven’t explored yet. Requires thinking outside of the box which is difficult for a party that’s largely anchored by an almost compulsive dedication to institutions, precedence and norms.

      • bisynaptic says:

        @Kitten, 🎯

      • Becks1 says:

@Kitten oh yeah, stop voting for his nominees. They should have done that from the first day of his administration though.

I want them to do whatever Mitch McConnell would have done if this were Obama. ‘
And i’m a fed and not getting paid which sucks but I still support the shutdown.

I just think overall, their hands are relatively tied. When they do something like marathon speeches on the senate floor, people screech that they’re performative.

I dont want to dismiss the power of messaging because I think the Dems are really weak on that and have been for ages now. But I’m not sure what they can actually do to stop the White House demolition.

      • Kitten says:

Ah f*ck Becks I forgot you’re a Fed worker. Sorry you’re dealing with this crap and I didn’t mean to sound cavalier about the shutdown and how many people are getting hurt by it. But it was one of very few opportunities for them to wield their power so ultimately I support it.

“I want them to do whatever Mitch McConnell would have done if this were Obama.”

EXACTLY, Be the McConnell of the Dem party. As far as the WH goes, Hakeem Jeffries says that there’s nothing they haven’t found anything that specifically says he can demolish the WH without Congressional approval. But it’s definitely unclear how exactly you stop him. The dude continues to undermine Congress and essentially rob them of any authority at every turn so….

      • BeanieBean says:

They can stand in front of the bulldozers. They can chain themselves to the bulldozers. I’ve seen these tactics with protestors of various timber sales on National Forests. Monkey wrench the bulldozers–pull the ignitions, stick a spanner in the works (or the equivalent). Find out the name of the company doing the demo. Trace the money.

    • Mario says:

The only way the Democrats or anyone else in congress could stop this is by both houses passing a law by veto-proof majorities. That means it would have to be passed with 2/3 of the Congress (all Democrats and a huge amount of Republicans–not just a few). Otherwise, the President could simply veto anything Congress passes–and that’s assuming Democrats could get the Republicans to even put any of their measures up for a vote.

One of the biggest myths cultivated in the past few years — albeit with the help of Russian disinformation which seeded a lot of social media posts and comment sections with complaints from supposedly disaffected Democrats — is that Democrats *could* be doing more to stop Trump and his ravaging of democracy if they really wanted to/weren’t beholden to donors/weren’t “the same” as Republicans/were competent.

That’s not how our system is set up. And the “attention getting” of the past — drawing attention to issues — doesn’t work the way it used to because most people now either choose the news source they want (and conservative news outlets only report things that are favorable to Trump and ignore or spin anything that isn’t) or avoid the news altogether. And social media algorithms serve up what we want to see with a sprinkling of what the algorithm wants/thinks we want to see.

The end result has been that people stay home or start to resent the entire opposition party and are more likely to stay home or decline to donate, thinking they won’t do anything anyway, when, in our system, literally the ONLY way to stop Trump is to vote more Democrats in, period.

  8. Hyacinth Bucket says:

The White House is a symbol of your democracy and of belonging for your people. In times of crisis it’s the place where people seek reassurance in such symbolism because it calms and comforts them. To tear it apart like this may badly backfire for Trump. Politics may be divisive, but the White House belongs to the people, all of them. And if I judge Americans correctly, they don’t like anybody to mess with their belongings.

    • Holly says:

Nope. This is the guy that said “grab em by the pussy” waaaay back when. That didn’t backfire, nothing else has since. Expect more of the same till he’s dead.

    • Emgee says:

This is what we’re hoping! Just thinking about the Orange Menace blowing up the People’s House makes me sick. It’s astounding how quickly the Congress, Supreme Court, and now the literal WH have caved to Trump’s fasicst agenda. There’s nothing he won’t do, and the ONLY ones who can bring the government back to life are the GOP. They have no souls, and will go down in history for their crimes.

BUT… Attending my small town’s No Kings rally gave me immense hope. Biggest protest in US history!

    • BeanieBean says:

Having worked my entire federal career in historic preservation & cultural resource management, I can assure you that there’s a depressing number of Americans who really don’t give a rat’s ass about historic preservation. There’s a lot of eye rolling & references to ‘hysterical societies’.

Still I persisted. I’d be working today if we had a President Harris. And my former co-workers would be getting paid. And this sh*t wouldn’t be happening. Nor would there be concentration camps built in National Park units (the one in Florida is in Big Cypress National Preserve). Laws would still be meaningful. The children of immigrants could sleep soundly in their beds. And so on. 😔

  9. Lala11_7 says:

I look at this 😱 as the consequences of 🇺🇸 Voters letting the Republican Party play in our faces while they diligently pushed 🇺🇸 to this point since Ronald Reagan…this was DECADES in the making from setting up trickle-down economics & letting corporations become monsters which unleashed the psycho Billionaires we have now…the militarizing of the police…to installing horrific Judges in lifetime positions to letting Republicans get the House where they were able to drain the social net…which always created economic havoc and kept the Federal Minimum Wage at an ABYSSMAL rate…let White Supremacy Christians take over the party…dismantle public education…DECIMATE Medicare & Social Security…all while forging inhumane alliances with Putin for decades…

    Trump didn’t start this…and it won’t end with him💔🇺🇸💔

    • SIde Eye says:

You nailed it Lala11_7. I feel like there was a window for people to stop this but they couldn’t bring themselves to say Black Lives Matter – that was super offensive to them. Now they are freaking out that the rest of the populace is being stripped of their rights and freedoms. If only the rest of the country had just listened to Black people.

WE TRIED TO TELL THEM SO MANY EFFING TIMES but their addiction to their beloved White privilege, their inability to feel empathy for anyone who doesn’t look like them is what led the US to this sunken place.

This morning on Instagram the son of Holocaust survivors was explaining why he has already left – he cited the historical parallels between the US today and nazi Germany and it was so chilling. When I come across the videos of someone reading aloud from the Diary of Anne Frank juxtaposed against ICE disappearing people off the streets I can’t even function for the rest of the day.

    @inge where are the democrats?

While I think the house and senate are full of cowardly republicans who would prefer to compromise whatever morals they have left to appease Trump, there is a void in democratic leadership, even on the local level.

I live in VA in a liberal leaning town. In the summer they close down the main street once a week for pedestrians and local vendors. The republicans and democrats both have stands. The republican stand has balloon animals and treats for kiddos. I always make a point to go to the democrats stand. I once asked if I could get involved and they had me write down my name and email address on a used napkin. But I did get to meet potential delegate Bennington!

  11. Mairzy Doats says:

Can you imagine all the surveillance bugs that’ll be snuck in during construction? Not that I would be surprised if the West Wing hasn’t already been compromised by foreign surveillance.

    • pottymouthpup says:

this is pretty much what everyone on bluesky is saying and I’m sure it’s 100% accurate

It’s only a matter of time before he not only adds his face to mount rushmore (at our expense), I also expect a push to make Trump bitcoin our legal tender and for him to demand a statue to himself the size of the Lincoln memorial – maybe even replace the Lincoln memorial with a golden replica of himself (after all, the Christian Nationalists are now starting to talk openly about how slavery isn’t wrong so who better to replace the POTUS who made the emancipation proclamation with the guy who will likely spearhead the return of slavery or, if he dies prior to the GOP doing that, at least took the country back to 1930s Germany so those that follow him are able to push us back even further in time to 1864)

      • BeanieBean says:

He’s already planning that–he wants his ‘arc de trump’ opposite the Lincoln Memorial

    • Blithe says:

Yep. I’m also betting that embedded in the ceiling, the floor, and other more or less permanent parts of the structure will be his name, or initials, or something that he imagines will be a part of the building — and American history — forever.

No surprise. He showed us, and told us — openly — who he is, and many of us tried to speak out about what his election could potentially mean for the country. Lots of people apparently liked what they saw: including the potential for irrevocable destruction.

      • Emgee says:

I still think they rigged the election. There’s NO way he won all of the swing states, even when the racists and sexists couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Kamala.

  12. Teddy says:

The US is no longer a functional democracy. We have a vast force of masked secret police grabbing people off the street, Congress is neutered, free speech and academic thought are throttled, our own troops are occupying blue state cities, and we’ve begun bombing random fishing boats because someone told Trump they’re drug smugglers. And this is only 10 months in.

  13. FYI says:

He is not going to leave.

When he was dancing during the campaign, instead of answering questions, it was because he knew that the subterfuge was in place and the election was in the bag. There is NO WAY that he won every single swing state in the 2024 election. No way. THAT is the election that was stolen, because he absolutely could not bear to be defeated (again). He doesn’t give a rat’s ass about any rules or laws whatsoever, because he WILL get his way.

    • Sue says:

He was actually saying during the campaign that he didn’t need his cult’s votes. Alongside saying “Vote for me and you’ll never have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good you’ll never have to vote again.” He has dementia and couldn’t even be sneaky about it. That’s what his cult wants and the non voters were either too dumb or too fixated on one issue to understand that.

    • DaveW says:

He’s not, or is going to use every underhanded trick in his vast conman arsenal. I hate saying it, but it’s going to take an Elon but for the Dems, and good luck because billionaires LOVE GOP policies, to get him out. He loves that for the first time in his life he was wave his tiny little hands and people bend to his will. Plus all the attention he could ever want…he’s living his dream. You best believe he’s going to cheat lie and steal to keep living it.

    • Blithe says:

Well, he’ll be leaving at some point, even if it’s feet first. As others have said though, he’s just the figurehead of far greater, deeper rot.

  14. Sue says:

It’s not at all pretty crazy that Trump has been lying his ass off about it. All he does is lie.

  15. D says:

At least the press is starting to cover this abomination. There was a full on federal military invasion in downtown New York City 2 days ago that The NY Times stuck way down in the “New York” section of the website that you realllllly had to look for to find. Masked men in the dozens descended on Canal Street and created chaos in the middle of the day, arresting black men and protesters indiscriminately while the NY police and administration did absolutely nothing. My daughter is a student at NYU and was so angry because the school didn’t alert students about what was happening even though there is a dorm right across the street from where it was all going down. All the poor international and students of color terrified to leave the dorms. They will alert students of any police activity but this was ignored. Absolute crickets from the mainstream media on this. They are just letting our country devolve into an authoritarian dictatorship like it’s no big deal. I’m so terrified.

  17. olliesmom says:

He conveniently “forgets” many things. – “I don’t know them”. “I never met them”.

You would think that they would take the east wing apart a little bit more delicately and thoughtfully maybe to try to preserve something from it. But no – they are just ripping into it.

I just saw on the news this morning that now the price tag has went up to $300 million for this fancy party place. There is no way that will cost $300 million. He is definitely pocketing some $$$$$$.

It’s amazing how fast THAT got started. Everything else is at a standstill. It is symbolic that demolition on OUR house was started on Monday after the No Kings protest. He was mad that a lot of people don’t like him and hopefully he’s also a little terrified.

How reinforced is that place going to be? Is that for when we all come for him?

  18. bisynaptic says:

Can’t the people of this country sue to stop this? It’s OUR damned house!

      This is how I feel.

I mean, why aren’t we standing in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. demanding that this stop??? It’s OUR f*cking house. It’s not Mar-a-Lago North.

If this manages to get built, I want the next Democratic president — if there’s ever going to be another fair election again, and it’s not guaranteed — to rip down that tacking travesty of a ballroom.

      • bisynaptic says:

I can’t, unfortunately, because I’m mostly homebound. But, if I physically could do it, I would.

      • Sue says:

If I know DC, where I lived for 6 years, there will be a a demonstration there this weekend. Let’s give them a minute to organize. I was proud to stand in front of 1600 on his 2nd weekend in office back in 2017 with thousands of others protesting the Muslim ban that he tried and failed to enact.

  19. Ula1010 says:

Where are the items that were inside this building? The fixtures, the chandeliers, portraits, and all of the other things that might have historical significance?

    • BeanieBean says:

In any proper demolition of an historical building these things would have been taken care of. The NPS is complicit in this. They have a trump toady as acting director right now. NOTE: yet another person in an acting position so that trump doesn’t have to get congressional approval.

  20. Delphine says:

This makes me sick to my stomach. Especially when I think about how his new gaudy azz ballroom will now be more than TWICE the size of what’s left of the White House. The East Wing accounted for 12k of the total 55k square feet of the WH. With that gone that leaves 43k square feet compared to his 90k sq ft ballroom.

  21. Pisces Risces says:

Can anyone please explain which political party allowed trump to join & why they are not making any attempt to control him?

    • Becks1 says:

      Well, the Republicans.

they tried to control him the first time around, and to a certain extent they did. He got pushback from some in his own party. his first chief of staff was the head of the RNC. etc. They realized they couldn’t control him but there was enough chaos that it just felt different.

Now, the party has been taken over even more by the hard right, and they see Trump as their useful idiot. they’re fine with him building a ballroom because that keeps him happy while they make him sign whatever EO they want. Its clear he’s not all there, mentally (and he wasnt great in his first term but it wasnt like this) and the hardcore right wingers are making their move and winning.

        @becks1
Can trump’s family or the party members not pressure him to go to a doctor to through mental assessment? Thank you.

      • Becks1 says:

Well he goes for “mental assessments” and comes out with the highest scores anyone has ever seen, soooo…. (I mean clearly something fraudulent is going on.)

but again he’s their useful idiot. Mike Johnson in the House doesn’t really want Trump examined objectively, bc a lot of what he is doing Johnson agrees with. Maybe not 100%, but enough to go along with it. Trump has opened the door to a lot of power for the Rs and they will cling to that.

(opened the door bc people are so scared of standing up to him R or D.)

My guess is after the 26 midterms Trump will suddenly resign and we’ll have Vance.

It’s not lost on me that the East Wing is traditionally, for the last 120 years been the center of operations for First Ladies during their husbands’ terms.

Not that he has any respect for anything or anyone, but it’s a safe bet he’s enjoying destroying, pissing on the physical history of all those women and the work they did, like paving over the Rose Garden and trashing the vegetable garden, only a million times worse.

Recalls Reagan gleefully having the solar panels off the White House roof when he took office, only now with more fascism, and misogyny. The Republican urge to harm others and destroy and gobble up resources knows no bounds.

This is powerful insight. Yes! I had not thought of this before. The erasure is hitting me like a ton of bricks.

My feeling tells me that Parliament will never meet in its usual form again as long as Trump is in power. He will do something similar to what Hitler did with the Enabling Act and strip Parliament of its powers. He has almost abolished the separation of powers and declared all democratic parties to be “enemies of the people”. Project 25 follows the fascists in Germany in the 1930s who seized power and disempowered legitimate institutions and the separation of powers. A joint response at the time of the Reichstag fire might have prevented the madness that followed. Gavin Newsom is doing the right thing. He is fighting this act of terror without regard for politeness and good manners. There is more at stake than good behaviour.

I’m just absolutely sick about it. It’s not his house! The history lost, the asbestos released because it looks like they bombed it.

He wanted to make his mark on it, and us. He continues to shit on everything.

  25. Glamma says:

What’s to stop him from demolishing the entire White House and building a gilded palace for Putin?

  26. Jgerber says:

Whose business is it but his? It’s his house, after all. He’s like Prince Andrew, what with molesting trafficked teenagers and refusing to budge from government owned property. And like the royals, Trump is charging his 200 million unapproved ballroom to the government. This bitch is never leaving and will never obey the law. Infuriating.

The sad thing is I have already seen MAGA fans posting that he only destroyed a patio, and that the woke left is lying about this. Crazy times!
