Kate Gosselin was a guest host on The View today, which was about “Women and Addiction” and featured Dr. Drew and a bunch of ex Celebrity Rehab attendees like Mackenzie “new face” Phillips and Mindy McCready. Kate wore a ridiculous short fuchsia tiered dress for St. Patrick’s Day, because it’s all about how good she looks and not whether she gets pinched by the leprechauns. (And she’s got plenty of them at home but I doubt she’ll be seeing them today.)
Kate was sporting feathered extensions and frosted heavy eye makeup. She didn’t look bad, but I have a hard time being objective about her. Something about her grates on me. I have to say that she came across pretty well, though, especially when compared to another famous mother of multiples who recently appeared on The View, Octomom Nadya Suleman. Anyone would look sane and normal compared to Suleman, though.
The first thing the ladies on the panel brought up were the rumors about Kate acting the diva on the set of Dancing with The Stars. She denies that she’s been cold to fellow contestants and crew, and says she’s been primarily practicing in her basement in Pennsylvania with her partner, Tony Dovolani. Kate claims she’s only been out to the set once and that the rumors aren’t true.
On how she’s not a diva on DWTS
“I’ve been out there once, for the initial thing. Danced for five days there. Met everybody. Wonderful. Had a great time. It is so much fun. It is a huge honor. I told my kids I’m playing dress up. Get to go to the makeup room, the hair room, costumes.”
On how she manages her dancing schedule around mommy duty
As to how she manages her dancing practice around her kids, Kate never mentioned that she has multiple nannies or help at all. “It’s a delicate balance of a working mom. I’m grateful to have work, I’m grateful to be able to do this. I have kids to provide for. It’s just a matter of a schedule…. A lot of times I’m dancing before they’re up in the morning or after they’re in bed or while they’re in school.”
On if Jon is helping out and financially supporting her
She said her ex husband Jon was helping out a little when Sheri asked her about it. “He was at our house for a week during the time I was in L.A. And, he’s there when he’s there. [shrugs]”
Joy asked Kate if Jon helped her financially at all and she answered “We’re here talking about Dancing with The Stars.”
On how she feels about reading that she’s a diva
“It’s no different than what I’ve been facing for the last year. I feel like it’s unfair. If you meet me, not the tabloid me, not anything else, you will realize I’m just like moms everywhere working. I’ve had a great time with the whole cast, so it’s untrue, unfounded, ridiculous.”
“Unfortunately people will read this and believe it. I typically like to look at it and just laugh because I can’t change it. I don’t let it bother me, I’m too busy working, focusing on my kids.”
I have to say that Kate seemed pretty likable and friendly on The View. She knows how to play the media game, but I still find her distasteful. How long will it take for her to get voted off Dancing with The Stars? Will she hang in there until the end by sheer force of will?

I have an issue with this.
I don’t much care for the woman, she seems to be a rather nasty witch, but in fact she does have to work to raise those kids and a nursing salary just isn’t gonna cut it when it comes to day to day expenses for 8 kids since she is basically doing it on her own now (food, clothing, child care while she is at work for 8 children, bills, mortgage, college funds, etc, etc, etc.)is not possible on a maybe $40-50K a year.
Which would people prefer? That Kate milks her 15 min of fame to make some money and take care of her family or that she stays home and goes on the public dole? The woman is a shrew but she is in a no win situation. Either she works (in any way that will make the most $$) to provide for the family and is bashed or she goes back to nursing, moves to a small house and has to use WIC or some other welfare program to get by and is bashed. I would suspect she would love to stay home with her kids and win the lottery, but that isn’t realistic. She has 8 kids to care for and put through college, and lord knows Jon isn’t doing anything to help. Damned if she does, Damned if she don’t.
TaylorB, I agree with you. People are going to find something to bash about Kate no matter what. And the reporters and trash mags slant her just like the media slants political stuff. I’m going to use all of my votes for her and Tony and try to keep them around DWTS as long as possible so she can make more $$$ for the kids!

Taylor B and Shelly: She has MILLIONS–she doesn’t have to work, plus she has a new TLC show. The kids’ college educations have already been paid for by the state of Pennsylvania; she spends tons of money on shoes, clothes, handbags, tanning, manicures, pedicures, hair–all for HERSELF–it’s all about HER–NOT the kids. She could live on interest alone for the rest of her life. It is documented that she has been paid more than any other celebrity ever has been for being on DWTS. Quit buying into the “poor Kate” party. Saying she’s a FAMEWHORE is putting it nicely.

I suspect the kids are with nannies while their mother is trying to make money to support their very large family, does that answer your question. Perhaps you should ask where their FATHER is, a man with no job who should be caring for the children while the mother is working, but instead he is skiing in Aspen or Salt Lake or on an island with his GF of the moment. I was always on that mans side until he showed what a complete lazy twat he really is. People bitch about her, but what is his lazy ass doing to help? Does he have a job? is he taking care of his kids while she works to support them? Hell no.
I am not a working mother, but I was raised by one (though not a single mother) and I HIGHLY respect all the effort and sacrifices that working mothers give to provide for the security of their families, especially single mothers who are the sole financial support for the family like Kate is at this time.

As for needing the money and the whole idea of her being a struggling single mother trying to raise all these kids….well, I don’t know her finances, but if the children are with “their nannies” she has way more money than most single mothers I know who can’t afford “nannies” and who have to rely on family and after relatively inexpensive after-school programs. Maybe if she stayed with her kids more, she could save some money on “nannies” and not need to leave the family in search of income. This is NOT about money – this is about her staying center stage – it’s all about her!

First of all I did not mean to offend you both so badly, for that I am sorry.
To be fair I do not know her exact financial situation, and neither do you; only her CPA really knows those stats. You may well be correct she may be simply a fame whore, but on the other hand if she is trying to make money to care for her family I will not begrudge her that. I also know that there are people who, be they a horrid b*tch like Kate or not, are very serious about having a nest egg for their families and themselves especially if they grew up very poor, they will do almost anything to make sure that they won’t be destitute at some point; a million dollars (sadly) doesn’t go as far as it used to. Sure she could sell the house and get something smaller, she and Jon could BOTH go back to work, but as disgusting as their lives are being grist for the mill this trashy garbage makes them more $$; Sad to say but true. I am not saying it is right or that I would do the same, but I will at least try and understand why they do this crap, not agree, but understand. Sort of like being a stripper or a hooker I sure as hell wouldn’t do it myself, but I understand why some people do.
BTW I didn’t know that nurses in PA were so highly paid, that is great to know more often than not nurses are terribly under valued and not paid what they should be. I wish more areas paid nurses so well, perhaps we wouldn’t be in such a nursing shortage.

If her husband hadn’t cheated on her (and there weren’t rumors that she was doing her bodyguard), she’d still just be some middling person on a middling reality show that was probably on its last legs anyway, given the glut of new shows every year.
She should get down on her knees nightly and thank God that Jon showed what an ass he was and cheated on her because that’s the only reason she’s even gotten 10 minutes of fame, let alone 15. I can’t fault her for milking it for all it’s worth and getting paid for everything she can.
I can strongly dislike her because I think she’s probably not a terribly involved mother anymore. I have one kid (single mom) and with everything in his life and mine, I worry that I’m not doing enough with him. Having nannies and chauffers to drop your kids off at practice or whatever isn’t the same as being connected with them, especially if you’re in the basement dancing around or doing talk shows in New York.

I can’t stand taking care of six five-year-olds. It is grueling, messy, exhausting and boring, and I would rather pay someone else to do it. I want to be groomed and pampered and live a life of glamour and luxury, and I will do whatever it takes to have it. I don’t want to have to handle the day-to-day care of my kids. It’s too hard.
It’s selfish, but at least it’s honest.

Having seen a couple episodes of J&K+8, Kate seemed like a dominate woman who liked to be in control. If she was this terrible entitled b*tch, I would totally expect the ladies on the View to call her out for acting that way on their set. According the media, Kate acts entitled everywhere she goes, which stands to reason she would act that way on the View. My guess is that she’s a strong woman who knows what she wants, and a lot of people don’t like that in a woman. But on the set of the View they’d be used to that kind of woman, yes? Just sayin’, I’ve seen the View girls lay into guests before, and I’d expect them to do as much to Kate if they thought she was being uppity.
It seems there are a few people left in the universe who buy into this hideous woman’s claptrap. I’m not going to call her a bitch because I like the word and it just simply is too mild a word to describe what she is. One DWTS cast member has been quoted saying that she’s “standoffish” which is of course just a nice way of saying that she really is a dewshbag. She is on the threshold of making a whole bunch of new enemies and once the season is over I’m sure many of them will be making negative comments about her to the press. Anyone who thinks that the general perception of her as a witch is due to “editing” or jealousy or whatever the case may be, is simply delusional. Her entire family has spoken out against her and she continues to alienate people wherever she goes. She does NOT deserve to be defended, so please Boo and Taylor cease and desist. Did I mention that I can’t stand the sight of her?
