Actually, Prince Harry was a Toronto Blue Jays fan this whole time

Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended Game 4 of the World Series. They sat in the LA Dodgers’ owners box and both Harry and Meghan wore their Dodgers baseball caps. Right-wing Canadians and Toronto Blue Jays’ fans were appalled! Why is Prince Harry rooting for the LA team when his father is King of Canada?!? Right-wing Canadians were throwing hissy fits about those Dodger caps for several days. Well, I think this makes it even funnier: as it turns out, Harry actually IS a Blue Jays fan. He just wore the Dodgers cap because they were sitting in the owner’s box, and I would assume Meghan “forced” him to wear it. How do we know Harry was a secret Blue Jay fan this whole time? Because Meghan posted a video where she, Kelly Zajfen and Harry are watching Game 7, and Harry was depressed that the Dodgers won.

I love everything about this video and Kelly’s message. The fact that the Dodgers fans (Meghan and Kelly) are on one side, while the Blue Jays fans (Harry and Pula) are on the other side. The fact that Meghan can’t even sit beside Harry during Game 7. Meghan dancing when the Dodgers won, Harry grumpy and staying seated. It’s just cute.

Nike released a great ad/video for the Dodgers’ World Series win. They used Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up.” A missed opportunity to use “Dodger Blue,” right???

Ugh…their ease with each other is so hot! Do you guys understand what I mean? They are so familiar and tactile in whatever situation they’re in. They remind me of my favorite couples, like the Obamas and the Biden’s Ton & Zendaya, Kamala & Doug, Kevin & Kyra… anyway, I was rooting for the Blue jays too Harry!

  2. sunnyside up says:

He had to support the Dodgers otherwise he would have been accused of being rude.

    • Mac says:

Both of them could have supported either team. LA is M’s hometown and H’s adopted hometown and Canada is part of the Commonwealth and Toronto was M’s adopted hometown while filming Suits. It was a win-win for them. Also, I want a home theater. That looks so comfy. You just know they have popcorn machine, too.

    • MSJ says:

When you’re on date night with your wife, you have fun with your wife at her team’s home game (in the owners box), team merchandise and all. It’s more about the date night than the competition imo. After all, making love 💕 after you get home from date night is more important than which sports team wins. Happy wife happy sex life. 😝

      • mightymolly says:

Plus I really doubt he cares that much. He’s English, didn’t grow up on baseball, and while he’s never lived specifically in LA, he’s spent years in Southern California (including his time on a military base before meeting Meghan) and never lived in Toronto (except for when he hid out at Meghan’s house early in their relationship).

He feels loyalty to Canada, which is great, but it’s hardly going to cause a marital rift that Meghan’s team won.

  3. Amy G says:

So do we think that’s a security camera? Or who would’ve taken the photos/video? I’m confused but think it’s hilarious and cute.

    • CatGotMyTongue says:

Looks like it. I’m glad they have them! The dancing was so cute! But that’s not why I’m glad they have them. I hope that place is like Fort Knox.

That misplaced apostrophe in the “About Last Night” pic really grinds my gears tho, hahaha.

    • Libra says:

Was Doria there? She could have snapped this.

  4. Lissen says:

OK, I get exactly how Harry feels as I sadly put away my 1992-1993 Blue Jays World Series champs t-shirt. lol

Excellent manners, H!!! When guest of the opposing team, you accept their hospitality graciously and that includes wearing their hat. But deep down, at home, in one’s own castle, one can show one’s true support.

Meghan, you and your friend can jump around and shriek, we’ll just sit here quietly, with the dog, and ponder life. LOL

  5. Jan says:

Harry was a good sport about the loss, Meghan giving him a kiss, and his laugh at the end.

  6. Inge says:

Harry did laugh seeing Meghan&her friend freaking out together 🙂

  7. Jais says:

I’m gutted that the blue jays lost. I’m feeling Harry in that video.

    • ChickieBaby says:

I’m right there with you, my friend. Consider this, though: the Jays are a fairly young team. A good number of their lineup have less than 4 years experience in the major leagues. LA is full of veteran players who have been through all of this many times, some with many different teams. My consolation is now that the current Jays have gone through this, they’re a little battle hardened so can come back next year even hungrier. They’ll get there!

    • Zaftig & Kitty says:

The Jays losing was devastating. I’m not a big sports person but I was bummed out, as was the entire city. There was talk about having a parade in Toronto because even though they lost they did a fantastic job and put up one hell of a fight.

    • mightymolly says:

Being a baseball fan – or any sports fan – means learning to live with heartbreak. Somehow it’s worse with baseball though because the seasons involve so many games, the championships are complex, and the mythology is strong.

  8. Julia says:

The whole video is cute. I can understand why Harry would wear a Dodgers cap if he was invited to sit in the owners’ box. I like Harry’s little laugh at the end showing that he’s not taking any of it too seriously. I just like seeing little snippets of their normal life. They really seem to be in a happy little bubble in California.

  9. Dee(2) says:

It was all very cute, and yeah who wears the opposing teams gear in the owners box? It reminds me of that old Seinfeld episode with Elaine.

And yeah I think that that’s probably their Ring or whatever inside camera that the video is from. It’s the same room that either in the docu series or in the Oprah interview they were showing Harry and Meghan watching a recap of the British media’s headlines and Harry reached over and covered her eyes.

    • windyriver says:

You’re right, I remembered the room also. It was the in the docuseries, part 6. They were watching the Oprah interview, as Meghan comments, they didn’t see it until the rest of the world did, and you can hear Oprah wrapping up. We did see Harry cover her eyes briefly at one point. Haven’t watched the H&M doc in a while. Sad to be reminded of the dark place they were still coming out of at that point.

    • mycatlovestv says:

Thank you! I’ve been wondering if I’m the only one who remembers the Seinfeld episode and the incident with the cap!

  10. Plums says:

Harry is an expat who has only lived in a place with a baseball culture for the last few years and so is probably more a neutral than anything else. He’ll wear a Dodgers cap to the Dodgers game because it’s what you do when the owner of the team invites you to a World Series home game, and your wife is from LA and is a genuine fan, but in terms of rooting interest, he probably isn’t invested in either team and was casually preferring Toronto because all neutrals wanted Toronto to win, especially at home.

Incidentally, the Game 7 loss was absolutely soul crushing, and I feel terrible for the Jays and the fans especially. They came so close, the Dodgers had to execute perfect, all-star defense to stop them, and they lost it at the very end. It’s the saddest way to lose a game 7.

    • Becks1 says:

This was my thought as well. He likely isn’t a huge baseball fan anyway and may have preferred toronto for a variety of reasons (as a lot of Americans did……) so while he seems disappointed it doesn’t seem like a huge loss to him or like it was this huge rivalry between them. So wearing a Dodgers hat probably did not bother him.

I was really rooting for the Blue Jays and am glad I’m too old for these late nights and went to bed just before the game ended (I kept telling myself it was fine to stay up because of falling back and losing an hour but that was a bad bad idea, it takes me days to recover from a late night like that lmao.)

    • CatGotMyTongue says:

I don’t really care about sports at all, but occasionally get invited to sporting events. I don’t really support any team (tho it is always polite to root for the home team) so what I do is just cheer whenever anything happens! It’s really fun! 🙃

  11. Maxine Branch says:

Shows Harry has good manners and commonsense. You do not sit in the owners box and wear the opposing teams apparel. Dodgers fan myself. Meghan was probably equally excited for her hometown win and her cousin Mookie Betts.

  12. CSC says:

Harry can support whoever he wants to support. This was a cute video. A noticeable change in the atmosphere here in Toronto. We finished last season in the cellar to almost reaching to top this season. It was an epic series but to lose it like that is depressing. This going to sting for a bit or more.

  13. Amy Bee says:

LOL. The Canadian royalists are still upset with Meghan though for celebrating the LA win. It’s good to see Harry and Meghan happy.

    • Number23KitKeller says:

I’m a Canadian living in Toronto and we don’t care about royals as much as people think we do lol I haven’t heard anything opinions about who they’re cheering for. It’s not really on the radar of 98% of people save a few weird people on twitter….

      • Lawrenceville says:

Not all Canadian Torontonians are “royalists’, but there are quite some that are. So, I believe the poster was referring to THOSE royalists whatever the percentage might be. And I find it hilarious when some people go to forums and forcefully declare how “nobody here or nobody I know cares about them or even thinking about them or is even talking about them” LOL😂😂😂. Like, have you stopped for a second to consider that you and everybody you know might actually be the minority 2%? 😉😉😂

      • Number23KitKeller says:

No not really… I think it’s safe to say that the minority is the people who angrily obsess about the sports preferences of celebrities. And there’s actually quite a bit of polling that suggests that Canadians as a majority are not interested or neutral regarding the monarchy and no longer want to be part of a constitutional monarchy. Royalists are certainly in the minority.

      • Nic919 says:

The Canadian “royalists” are super small and most of the anti Harry stuff came from right wing accounts like Canada Proud. They just wanted a reason to be critical of him and Meghan. Toronto Sun is also super right wing.

Most Canadians don’t care about Royal anything and have to be reminded that Charles is head of state to explain why he went to Ottawa to give the throne speech.

    • Nerd says:

Let’s be fair that anyone who is a royalist, regardless of where they are at will find some ridiculous reason to be mad at Harry, but especially Meghan, because it’s silly to be mad at someone for routing for their home team. It’s especially ridiculous to be angry with Meghan for not supporting her home team over a team that she supported for a shorter time over her home team. Anyone mad at either of them for not touting for the Blue Jays because of the monarchy, is even crazier and more ridiculous considering it was the royal family that removed their security while they were in Canada and were being persuade by paparazzi who were given their location by royals. The paparazzi surrounding Vancouver and the place they stayed at while they had a newborn was terrifying and I wasn’t even there. The royals didn’t care if any of them were harmed at a time when there were real threats of harm against all of them. I’ll refrain from using the language I want to use about the royals when it comes to what they’ve done to them.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

If only the Canadian royalists had been equally upset that the Sussexes were stripped of security by their future king, who then tipped off the press, effectively encouraging the media to hunt his youngest son, DIL, and baby grandson.

That they never uttered one word of protest, especially knowing that his world-beloved mother did not survive the same palace playbook being applied to her, tells you all you need to know about the values of ‘royalists’ and ‘monarchists’.

      • AC says:

For all the Canadian royalists talking sh$@t about M jinxing the Dodgers. It got quiet very fast after game 6 and 7 as it actually went back to their own team. As a baseball fan for many years, there’s certain things you don’t really do and you don’t say if you believe in baseball’s superstitions(and baseball has been noted to be the most superstitious sport out there).

  14. Sue says:

Same, Harry. I wanted the Blue Jays to win so badly. The AAA team in my town is their farm team so I’ve seen some of these guys play. And I wanted it so badly for Canada.

  15. Elly says:

I agree that Harry probably isn’t really in to baseball since it’s such an American sport that he didn’t grow up with. I made the mistake yesterday of reading some of the crazy comments about the above video and people kept saying how miserable Harry looks. I imagine most people would be upset if their Uncle was in the international news for several weeks being accused of sex crimes. Harry is an empathetic person and is probably feeling bad for his dad and the rest of the family too. I really wish the general public would be more empathetic towards H&M and stop with the hateful comments.

    • Julia says:

The people who leave comments under videos like that are trolls. They leave the same comments whether Harry is laughing, smiling or has a straight face. I doubt very much that Harry is thinking about Andrew. He’s a British person who has just watched a long baseball game and the team he was rooting for lost.

      • Nerd says:

Yes, I doubt that Harry was thinking about his uncle at that moment. It was a game that could have gone either way and as you said the trolls say the same thing regardless of how he looks or even regardless of what he says. They always assume what Harry must feel regardless of how he looks or what he says but no mention about how the Wales are more than happy to move into another “forever home” during an ordeal that they know more about than Harry. Interesting how Harry and Meghan are supposed to dwell in sorrow over a paedo but the other royals can continue as usual. Let’s see if they say anything about how William should behave or speak during ES.

      • Elly says:

Yes, those pesky trolls are everywhere.

  16. Sharon says:

My hubby, who is a huge Jays fan, thought Harry was secretly rooting for them!

  17. MsIam says:

Cute video! I’m not a huge baseball fanatic but if my home team EVER won the world series I would be jumping up and screaming too.

  18. L4Frimaire says:

I’m happy LA won. I think Harry is getting into all the North American sports but don’t think he’s gutted by this loss. All those people freaking out about him not supporting the Commonwealth as the Kings son have egg all over their fave. They went real quiet, real quick. It’s so tedious how the press try to make the most mundane of activities, like going to a dinner party or a baseball game, into another reason to resent this couple living their lives in a non controversial way.

  19. VilleRose says:

I don’t pay attention to baseball at all but I was hoping the Blue Jays would win! Ah well.
And now where all the articles trying to slam Harry for being a Blue Jays fan?

This was just a cute video of Meghan and her friend cheering on their home city baseball team and showing Harry’s disappointment that his team didn’t win. He didn’t grow up with baseball and he probably doesn’t feel a super strong allegiance to LA sports teams like Meghan does. He probably wore a Dodgers hat since they were sitting in the owners’ box at Dodger stadium. Wearing a Blue Jays hat would have been seen as disrespectful (though he could have opted not to wear a baseball hat at all if he had wanted to).

    • tamsin says:

Harry may have just decided to throw some support toward the Jays because his wife and her friend are LA natives. Sometimes, one just picks a team to cheer for, you know? The Jays have definitely proven themselves a team worth cheering for in this series. They’ve played great baseball.

  20. Beverley says:

LA girl here! Apparently I’m in the minority here, I’m delighted the Dodgers won!

  21. Tashy says:

When has Harry ever supported the Blue Jays? When has he ever actively been interested in baseball. The man probably doesn’t care, went out to date night with his wife, was given a hat and wore it.

I think one can assume at home they had a friendly bet. That’s it. LOL Meghan “forced” him, oh my. Yeah she said or else as well, eh?

  22. Incognito08 says:

I too am an L.A. girl and thrilled that my beloved Dodgers have won another World Series title! The Dodgers had a seemingly perfect run towards winning the National League pennant and making it to the World Series. I distinctly recall how awful I felt when the Dodgers lost to the cheating, sign-stealing Houston Astros in 2017 and Boston Red Sox in 2018. Despite this, the Dodgers licked their wounds, regrouped and strengthened their resolve to get back in another position to play again in the World Series. As other commenters have noted, the Blue Jays has a young roster and I have no doubt that they will have another opportunity to play in the World Series in the near future. As for now, I am going to celebrate the Dodgers’ 9th World Series title!

    • AC says:

This ⬆️. I grew up as a dodger fan as my dad was hard core(my brother and I have become big fans, my sister isn’t so much into baseball). But yes, a lot of us remembered the disappointments of almost making it and losing multiple times before 2020. But the team took the losses and never gave up. They also didn’t give up on Roberts. As he said in today’s celebration it’s always about Perseverance.
