Here are some photos of King Charles last week. He was busy, as always. He hosted a reception at St. James’s Palace, he visited the Britannia Royal Naval College (he’s the the Lord High Admiral), and he had an absolute ball as he opened up the new Guinness Open Gate Brewery London. They let him pull a pint and sip it, and he was utterly delighted. While I think Charles is an appalling man for many reasons, I appreciate his eccentricities and his visible joy at the simple things enjoyed by peasants. Charles was in a particularly good mood because his cancer treatments are being reduced and it does feel like he’s turned a corner. Obviously, his heir does not share the king’s delight. Thus far, we haven’t heard much about how William feels about all of this, but Richard Kay (someone with deep contacts in both KP and BP) had some interesting things to say.
The King’s announcement that his cancer treatment is being reduced had a ‘hidden message’ for his critics, one of the Daily Mail’s royal experts claimed today. Charles revealed the major boost in his battle with cancer in a video message a week ago, saying his treatment will be significantly scaled back in the New Year. The monarch said in the positive update on December 12 that the ‘good news’ was down to early diagnosis, successful care and following ‘doctors’ orders’.
Richard Kay, the Mail’s senior editor-at-large, said in the latest Palace Confidential episode that the King primarily gave the speech because his treatment is changing. But he added that there was also a nod towards critics of Charles amid ongoing speculation of how the monarchy could change when William becomes king.
Speaking to presenter Jo Elvin, Mr Kay told the programme: ‘There’s been a lot of chatter around the Royal Family and the monarchy over the last few months. People (are) speculating about what kind of monarch Prince William is going to make and what kind of changes he might be introducing when he gets his opportunity. It was just a little reminder that the King saying: ‘Hello, I’m still here. I’m not going anywhere. And while I’m King, we’re going to do it my way.’ I think that might just slap down one or two people who have been a little forward in their views.’
Mr Kay also described the announcement as ‘a wonderful bulletin about his health battle and how he’s powering through and making great strides to getting better’. He said it was a ‘very uplifting, encouraging pre-Christmas message and he was very open, I thought, about the battles he’s had, the diagnosis’, adding that there was also a ‘hidden message there too about cancer and the need to get people examined’.
It follows claims of tensions between Charles and William which emerged over the summer – with Prince Harry’s wish to reconcile with his family also at its heart. Former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown also alleged that Charles was becoming frustrated by William’s ‘underwhelming’ approach to royal duties.
“I think that might just slap down one or two people who have been a little forward in their views…” One or two people being Scooter King and the Wig, I’m assuming. And I completely agree. It feels like Charles’s announcement put Scooter on the back foot. Scooter was getting quite bold with his briefings as well – there were way too many stories about William being “king in all but name” and “the incoming reign will make all of these changes.” That being said, Charles made very similar moves against his mother in her final years too, he just wasn’t a bull in a china shop about it.

Charles mugging again. Scooter is now preachy about homeless again after buying up property. Charles let scooter laze about bit scooter wants power now.
It’s hard to pour a good guiness and that one did look good..
Tampon sucks but a slap at willy is always a good day.
Underwhelming, you said it Kingy, sloths have more mojo than Wilbur and yet he claims to be the heir with the mostest? Actions and regular attendance are proof of dedication to duty not pie crust promises in between luxury vacations!
Scooter will take on those vacations soon.
I agree that it was a “slap down” for Peg and Can’t. He is saying look I had real cancer still managed to do more things than you two and I’m healthier now and will continue to do more than the two of you put together you lazy entitled brats!!
Pegg was and is spoiled and indulged and keen expected the perks not the work involved. Why should taxpayers pay the lazy ones
Exactly Susan Collins he’s twice as old as the Lazy Pair and been on strong treatment for two years and yet still knocks the spots of them work wise. Why doesn’t anyone apart from Republic ask exactly what Wilbur actually does with his time? Why is he allowed to just say NO to foreign tours, bread and butter engagements and instead indulge in leisure and sporting events that look like jollies to the average person?
Even when he’s discussing Charles’ motive for giving the speech, Richard Kay seeks to protect William and Kate. These are the people that Charles is supposedly slapping down.
Agreed like critics aren’t Will allowing multiple briefings that he’ll be more effective than papa by doing a hell of a lot less?!
I don’t know why but I have a soft spot for Charles. He may not be a good person but it’s hard to begrudge an old man enjoying a pint.
I have no soft spot whatsoever for him. I see how he risked Archies life. Meghan’s life. Harry’s life. And Lilis life.
Protecting Andrew. Protecting any Paedo he ever knew.
It convinced he killed Diana.
As I’ve said elsewhere, at this time of the year I lean into the spirit of kindness. There are far too many real world problems to deal with and a feeble monarch is not one of them.
I liked Charles as POW, at least he worked for a living, and complained about the destruction of the environment before David Attenborough made it fashionable did appeal as well but since Meghan arrived on the scene and got the treatment that she received I have gone right off him but I do think that William’s behaviour appears worse, William seems to want his father not living,
I found it perplexing that the two royals who were named by Piers Morgan as ‘the racists’ were shortly after diagnosed with a potentially terminal illness following treatment for other heath needs. For someone like myself who is acutely aware of royal ‘messaging’, there has been a healthy bit of skepticism as the narrative unfolded in 2024 and 2025, with the backdrop of behavior of the other royals close to those who were ill. In Charles’ case, William refused to step up and do more engagements while making excuses as to why he couldn’t. He didn’t seem to care about Charles and the other royals went about their lives like nothing serious was happening to Charles. Harry, the ‘royal outsider’, seemed to be the only one demonstrating extreme concern, rushing to his father soon after learning about Charles’ diagnosis. 🧐 In Kate’s case, no royal seemed concerned about her illness. Even her sister and brother were seen galavanting on vacation while Kate was ‘seriously ill’ and ‘missing’. The entire two years of the saga – ‘racists’ turned potential terminal cancer patients – was just odd. Then again ‘everything’ about the British royals can be considered odd. 🤷♀️
Charles does seem happy 😃 and visibly healthy in the photos.
In Kate’s case the surgeon did say that he thought he had got all the cancer out and the treatment was only just in case he hadn’t, I do think that Kate played on it, I would love to know why Charles can do so much more than Kate under the circumstances.
But no one is preventing Scooter King to do some work !
I know Charles did the whole coup with Edward Young replacing Geidst but was he also briefing the BM about what his kingship would be like while his mother was still alive? Asking for real bc I have no idea. The BM was so obsessed with all things Sussex that I can’t even remember. I’d imagine he was? But maybe. But not as obviously.
In my opinion, William has copied a lot from Charles. During QEII’s reign, Charles had his own Household (Court) and was doing whatever he wanted. He was also telegraphing what his reign would be like and briefing the press about it. He was leaking and briefing like a sieve to deflect from his scandals just like William has been doing. The difference is that QEII was not terminally ill when he started telegraphing his plans for changes to the monarchy.
I see William as a chip off the old block. 🤷♀️ He’s just a lazy chip. 😝
And the queen had many years ahead of her when Charles started the when I am king talk and talked about the queen stepping down.
Ha! So Charles was the role model for how he is now being treated by his son. Messy.
There have been palace rivalries and coups for a thousand years. They don’t outright murder each other to get ahead anymore – now they attack each other through the press so we can all watch.
🎯
In the olden days, the news of palace intrigue travelled via word of mouth gossip and lore. Now it is televised and published.
I love how Kay was all prim and coy at first with, “I think that might just slap down one or two people who have been a little forward in their views.” And then he ended up with a direct hit about William feuding with Charles and being underwhelming.
Charles’ work ethic is the one thing I admire about him. I certainly don’t admire how he treated Diana, how he elevated his side piece to Queen, the distant father he has been, and especially his treatment of Harry, Meghan, and the children. But I hope he has many years left and that he uses part of that time to mend his relationship with Harry, his only son who is actively philanthropic, who works hard, and has achieved great things such as the Invictus Games. Harry is a credit to his parents. Scooter is a lazy embarrassment.
Charles needs to mend his relationship with harry Meghan and their children. He very offensively blocked Meghan from going to Balmoral with harry after the queen passers on. Time to apologize charles.
I’m happy about the happy news. I also respect his sense of duty. Still busy as ever. Current Prince of Wales could work a bit more, he has no respect for anyone nor anything.
Imagine being such a terrible and grasping person that your father’s improved health is seen as a slap to you.
