Diane Keaton’s children and Sarah Paulson got tattoos honoring Diane

This past Sunday, January 5, would have been Diane Keaton’s 80th birthday. I can’t believe that it’s been almost three months since her unexpected death from pneumonia. After her passing, so many of her friends, contemporaries, and fans came out to pay tribute. AMC even brought Annie Hall and Something’s Gotta Give back to theaters for a week. At the time, Diane’s family asked people to donate to a local food bank or animal shelter in her memory, which was a perfect way to honor a woman who cared so much about her community and rescue animals.

Diane’s daughter, Dexter, and son, Duke, also honored their mother in a more intimate way. To celebrate her birthday, they shared pictures of tattoos that they’d each gotten with Annie Hall quotes on them. Diane’s good friend, Sarah Paulson, also got a tattoo. Hers was a simple yet poignant “DK.” Oh man, it’s suddenly getting awfully dusty in this room…

Diane Keaton was honored in a special way on her heavenly birthday. The late Oscar winner’s two children, Dexter and Duke Keaton, celebrated what would be her 80th birthday on Jan. 5 by sharing photos of the tattoos they got in her honor.

Shared on Instagram, Dexter first posted a photo of her and her mom hugging with their backs towards the camera and looking out to the ocean.

The second photo is of a tattoo on Dexter’s arm that reads, “La Di Da” with a heart. Her brother, whom she tagged, has a tattoo in the same area that reads, “Weird old world.”

“I miss you, mom,” Dexter Keaton wrote, adding a broken heart and dove emojis. She also thanked Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Winter Stone “for my forever reminder of my wonderful mom.”

She added black and white heart emoji, a nod to her mother’s signature color palette.

Additionally, on her Instagram story, she showed off her black nails with white polka dot nails and a bracelet that had a heart charm with the initials “DK.”

Sarah Paulson, a close friend of Diane Keaton and former co-star, also got a tattoo from the same artist and shared her tribute on her Instagram.

“You would have been 80 today. Too many deep feelings to put here… I was the luckiest person in the world to have traveled, laughed so hard we cried, watched a million and one movies, really cried, and eaten French fries with you,” the actor wrote alongside a beachside photo of the two. “You. You. Wondrous, singular, YOU. I will miss you till the end of time. Thank you @winterstone for my forever reminder, of one of my forever people.”

Paulson’s tattoo is also on her arm and simply reads “DK” in fine print.

Last month, Paulson honored Diane Keaton during The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Women in Entertainment gala, where she reflected on their friendship. She also read hilarious and heartfelt texts, voicemails and emails that Diane Keaton had sent her.

[From Today]

This is such a lovely tribute! Those first few years of holidays and birthdays after a loved one passes are so difficult. Getting a tattoo isn’t for everyone, but it’s nice that they’re remembering Diane in their own way. After my friend passed, her daughter and husband got tattoos of her signature and they look so beautiful. In that same vein, I love how meaningful and dainty all three of these tattoos are. If I were going to get a tattoo to honor someone, that’s the style that I would go with as well. Sarah’s post was really sweet, too. I watched the video of her speech at the gala, and it was funny, poignant, and very fitting. You can tell how much she loved and misses her friend. Goldie’s speech was also very emotional. Have the tissues nearby if you’re going to watch either of them.

Sorry. I cannot forgive her for being a Woody Allen apologist.

  3. Alo says:

Were Diane and Sarah a romantic couple? This rings a very distant bell in my celebrity gossip brain file…

    • Rosie says:

@Alo – I had also thought the same thing, but when I searched to find the old gossip I was remembering, nothing came up. It was probably just conjecture since they were spotted hanging out together often.

Yeah I don’t know why we’re making a big fuss for someone who literally cares more about animals than sexually abused children (and by the way, it doesn’t have to be one or the other, the minimum should be both and yet Mz Diane couldn’t be bothered about human victims).

That’s the FAR more important part but personally I have yet to see a movie of hers where she’s not just… Diane Keaton. I haven’t followed her career specifically, so I’m not saying that none exist, but my point is that afaik she’s not a particularly good actress, either. Like, no matter how you slice it, this is a lot of emotion for “besties with Woody”.

She represents the wealthy white women who don’t live in the real world and refuse to do the work to update their views. Out of touch, centering their own experiences at the expense of all others, and choosing proximity to male power over true feminism.

She’s not an icon, she tripped so that ScarJo could faceplant.

Thank you. Yes. See also Taylor Swift, the other example of privileged white female banality exalted for things that others have done better who also continues to have their shitty behaviour excused.
