Last November, on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were out and about in LA. They attended the Baby2Baby gala, where Serena Williams was honored (H&M are tight with Serena). Afterwards, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan did what many of the gala attendees did: they went straight to Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party, which was held at Jeff Bezos’ enormous mansion. The photos of Harry and Meghan walking in and out of the party, hand in hand, landed in the UK on the morning of Remembrance Sunday. As you can imagine, royalists were FURIOUS! Furious about everything, especially the fact that the Sussexes are invited to those high-profile Hollywood parties.
The next day, Monday, the Kardashian-Jenners posted photos to Instagram from Kris’s party, and Kris and Kim Kardashian both included photos of Harry and Meghan. Another round of fury, only the story was extended because Kim and Kris quickly removed the Sussex photos without explanation. What followed was WEEKS of speculation about who said what and why and the Kardashians are furious at Harry & Meghan, and the Sussexes are mad that the Kardashians posted the photos to social media in the first place and all of this just proves that Hollywood hates the Sussexes! The Mail was literally still screaming and crying about that over Christmas. Well, this week, Kim appeared on Khloe’s podcast, and they ended up talking about what really went down.
Soon after Kris and Kim posted the Sussexes’ photos, the photos were deleted. At the time, rumors abounded about what happened, from reports that Harry and Meghan “declined photo-sharing consent” (per People) to another report declaring that “there were no consent forms” at the November 8 bash. On the January 28 episode of Khloé Kardashian’s podcast “Khloé in Wonderland,” Kim set the record straight about what really happened at the party—and why the photos were deleted.
“The Photogate,” Khloé teed up. “The Photogate from mom’s 70th.” To this, Kim responded, “It was really innocent, which is so crazy. Mom and Meghan have been friends for some years now. And they have a really sweet relationship. We took a photo… And then I think we were all going through them. We’re all communicating about what we’re going to post. We’re never ones to post without permission. We are, like—it’s not who we are.”
“We’re very respectful,” Khloé interjected.
Kim continued, “We have the craziest, funnest photos from that night, you know, but we were posting just, like, fun photos,” to which Khloé added, “Dignified photos.”
“And so we were totally, you know—we were told that it was totally cool to post,” Kim said. “And then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day, and they didn’t want to be seen at a party, even though it’s already up, you know, and then taken down. And then I think they realized, like, oh, this was so silly.”
Khloé then mentioned that Harry and Meghan “did Baby2Baby right before,” referring to the Baby2Baby Gala the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended before heading over to Jenner’s party. The gala is an annual fundraiser for mothers and children living in poverty, and Meghan’s longtime friend Serena Williams was chosen as the honoree at last November’s event.
“Well, it’s like a charity event,” Kim added of the gala. “So, like, that was fine, but maybe not partying and dancing on the dance floor or whatever. So we took them down to respect Remembrance Day. And then, like, you got to laugh at, like, the situation sometimes and just, like, lighten it up and be if everyone’s taking it the wrong way, like, lean in. I was like, ‘We should do a full Skims campaign.’ Take the photo—even just us, like, I’ll shoot you at mom, you know, post it and then delete it, like, 30 minutes later. And then say, ‘Oh, sorry, I didn’t have permission to post those photos for the campaign.’”
“You should do that,” Khloé said, to which Kim responded, “That’s what I was like—that would have hit, so funny.”
“If we just made it light and made it funny, you know, I think it would have been, like, received differently, but I hated how that was received for everyone,” Kim continued of the controversy. “That sucks.” She added, “It was just made into something that was so crazy and ridiculous that just didn’t have to be.”
Yeah, I suspected it was something like this, where Harry and Meghan or their team requested the takedown but it wasn’t some huge issue, nor were the Kardashians furious with the Sussexes. I think Kim is correct that H&M realized too late that asking for the photo removal would turn into a huge controversy. Which just shows something about how the Sussexes operate, I think. Like, they can still be kind of naive about the bigger picture and they have issues thinking a few steps ahead when it comes to these kinds of situations (another example: the Elle profile where Meghan was announced by her title in a nearly-empty house). They didn’t stop and think that “asking the Kardashians to remove a few photos” would immediately turn into a days/weeks/months-long controversy. Kim’s solution, to make a joke about it and keep it light, would have been fine. The better solution would have been just… not asking for the photos to be removed in the first place. People already knew that Harry and Meghan attended the party on Saturday, there were tons of photos of them outside the party, photos which landed on Remembrance Sunday. Just own it. There still would have been a controversy, but whatever.

You damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
Sometimes trying to do what you perceive as the right thing makes it worst because UK gutter rats are looking for any excuse to pounce. Applaud Kim for explain the truthful situation and also applaud the Sussexes for continuing to move forth with their glorious lives.
I disagree, everyone had forgotten about this and the criticism that went with it. Kim’s just put it back in the conversation again. You would have thought she’d know better.
I think it was a mistake to ask for the photos to be deleted but I will defend Meghan regarding the Harpers Bizarre cover story. She wasn’t in her own house nor was she with her own staff. There is no evidence that Meghan asked to be announced by her title in an empty house. It could just be something that the owner’s staff does for everyone and not specific to Meghan.
I always read it as “the very proper butler chose to do this” and imagine Meghan laughing about it afterwards
The butler was living his dream, getting to announce royalty!
I have the Bazaar issue with her profile/interview, and just assumed guests were announced over the intercom system to alert staff on other floors to the presence of guests. Sorta Downton rich people stuff so a maid won’t haul the Hoover in and start vacuuming….
Who cares if they went to a party on Remembrance Day? They paid their respects earlier in the day. Life goes on. No one expects people to hide in their homes with the blinds drawn. Besides, it was the weekend before the actual day.
Hold on, let’s be honest here…It was a bad look. I think it was right after SNAP benefits were being cut and the perception was very much “Let them eat cake” from the billionaires and multi-multi millionaires who were in attendance at Kris’ party hosted by the Bezoses. But having the photos pulled didn’t really help anything.
Sorry but I think socializing with Bezos is gross. I think I just read he just cut 17K jobs today? I know Meghan can do no wrong here, but again, gross.
The original and main criticism was them partying with the likes of Bezos and Zuckerberg
Remembrance Day was Tuesday November 11. No one was going to a party that day. Kim is putting out information deceptively to make things worse.
This is a family that lies about everything. We shouldn’t take anything they say at face value and as others mentioned this has only brought this back into media attention.
Yeah they should have just left the pictures up. They were getting bashed anyway for being seen going to the party. It goes to show that Meghan and Harry still care what the UK press says about them when they really shouldn’t. Lesson learned I hope.
Yeah, sometimes. A little more F-U energy is better off cuz the haters are going to hate either way.
Right – i know that it was Remembrance Day in the UK and maybe they didn’t realize that timing (but how could they not?) but in many situations taking something down (or the coverup or lie or whatever) is worse than the actual “sin.” And I think they realized that but a smidge too late, because then it spun into this whole thing that became bigger than the original story.
But, live and learn I guess.
But for the Kardashians it doesnt sound like it was a big deal – they posted the pics with H&Ms permission, then took them down when asked, and then it sounds like there was some laughing all around as H&M realized that taking the pics down just brought more attention to it.
I agree. Everyone knew they were there so they should have just left it alone. Pulling the photos just added to it. With Harry and Meghan it will always be damned if you do damned it you don’t. I would love for them to get to a point where they don’t give a shit what the gutter press says. The British press never talk about when Harry was wanting his wreath layed for Veterans day and the RF refused.
I was wondering, no one in their staff advised them to let the photos there?
For all the praise Meredith Maines gets for working with Harry and Meghan, she effed this situation up.
I don’t think it’s really a case of them not thinking further ahead, when people catch the vapors and have fainting couches over literally everything that they do. There’s no in between, and it’s not genuine. They will literally criticize them for not doing something, and when they find out they did, criticize them for taking that action too.
These are the same people that literally the month before that were in hysterics because Meghan went to fashion week in the same city where her husband’s mother died nearly 30 years before.
You can’t make decisions based off of pleasing everyone, especially when there is a contingent of people that will always see the negative in anything that you do. Most people even celebrities can make mistakes and is not a big deal to most people, but there is a hyperfocus on them that literally anything they do is covered by five or six national newspapers in the country for days on end. And the American Media is getting in on it too now.
Agree. And Remembrance Day in the UK is always on 11th November, which last year was on Tuesday. The party was on Saturday 8th November, with Remembrance Sunday events next day on the 9th. So the press hysteria was even more ridiculous and overblown than usual. Trying to do the right thing doesn’t always work and I’m sure everyone learned from this.
Britain does have a remembrance concert at the Albert Hall on the day before, but if we held remembrance day on the correct day i.e. 11th non of this would have happened, Here in France it is held on the 11th, and if it is a work day everyone gets a day off. The whole business about this party has been a storm in a teacup.
Remembrance Day in Canada is always November 11, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Our province has the day off work and many of us attend a service in person or watch the main one in Ottawa. I’ve never understood why Britain of all places does their service the Sunday before. And then to go on and on about the Sussexes being at a party the Saturday night days ahead of November 11th is so crazy!! The newspapers should have just not published the photos until Monday. That would have been respectful to our veterans so this is their fault, not the Sussexes.
Im happy Kim made it clear there is no bad blood but I fear her telling this will resort in another round to feed the BM like the Sussexes are being phony trying to scrub evidence.
I think those pictures should have stayed up, and Harry and Meghan should have ignored the tabloid noise. Even the veterans who marked Remembrance Day likely went to pubs afterward—had a few beers, and listened to music. Chris’s party just happened to fall on the same day; it really wasn’t a big deal.
The tabloids are never going to make Harry and Meghan look good—never. At some point, the Sussexes need to stop shaping their decisions around tabloid outrage, because nothing they do will ever be enough for the British media.
Exactly, a friend of ours always goes for the March pass, and they end up in the pub. I think Harry’s real problem is he wants to make up with his dad and the media are making it difficult. They make loads of money out of the whole business.
You make a good point but people, whether well-meaning or not, speak out of both sides of their mouths. There are still (even after all this time) some mutterings of “Will anyone think of the children? After all, it was Remembrance Day (in another country)”. In the absence of all that handwringing, people are also winging about Meghan’s emails, sorry about her poppy “But her poppy! Where is her poppy, damn it?!” They are still expecting Meghan and Harry to observe customs from a country where they no longer live, which does not support them, and actively harasses them. F- that.
Then, you have those people who are just — God bless ’em — determined to be offended, so they go on about this couple, complete strangers to them, going out so soon after a reduction in federal benefits — now that’s a new one. But it just never ends. Next, it will be “How dare the Sussexes go out so soon after the equinox? How about Gaza. Nuts.
I could not comprehend what I was reading. Kim’s constant use of “like” is ridiculous.
Yeah, I’m trying to imagine her as a trial lawyer, making her first opening statement.
Came here to say the same thing. Like like like like like like like. Grow up, Kim.
Also, I love Meghan’s outfit. I want all of it.
I do think it was a bad look for them to attend the party in the first place. Also it wasn’t great that Meghan wasn’t wearing a poppy. Asking for the photos to be taken down the next day is just an amateur move. They don’t have to be perfect in every maneuver though.
The Americans don’t have poppies it a peculiar British thing. We don’t have them in France either but there are some ladies here that crochet poppies and those are sold in the British shops for the British legion.
Why should an American wear a poppy to a private party held in America?
This.
Poppies aren’t an American thing. And Meghan would have been slammed by the BM if she had worn one.
Hang on a minute, Lady Rae, Remembrance Day in the UK is always on 11th November, which last year was on Tuesday. The party was on Saturday 8th November, with Remembrance Sunday events next day on the 9th. So the press hysteria was even more ridiculous and overblown than usual.
I do think that trying to do the right thing doesn’t always work and am sure everyone learned from this – the benefit of hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Remembrance Sunday is a pretty big deal on the royal calendar and I think still means a lot for Harry, so my guess is when those pictures hit on Sunday morning he probably thought oh crap. And the Festival of Remembrance the Saturday before is also a pretty big deal (for the royals, although apparently not for William who skipped this year.) Remembrance Sunday is the event that gets all the headlines.
So while I dont think they should have asked for the pics to be removed, the thinking wasn’t just about November 11.
Meghan wore a poppy in 2024 for a video and the British media lost their ever loving minds saying it was disrespectful so….
Like, whatever.
The way Kim always has her hand on her stomach in photos makes me think she’s desperately uncomfortable.Whatever combination of surgery and body shapers can’t feel great.
Leave it to Kim and Khloe to beat a dead horse. Smh.
💯 this
All Kim did here was bring back a nonsense story and add more confusion by saying it was Remembrance Day when it wasn’t.
This family lies about everything so this didn’t actually help Meghan in anyway. All it did was bring attention to Kim and give more ammo to the British tabloids.
I think the only thing that Meghan and her team need to learn from this is to never trust the Kardashians.
Kris Jenner’s birthday is November 5th, so there’s a good chance a birthday party will always fall around Remembrance Day. It is what it is. Show up and celebrate your friends because Salt Island will hate regardless.
I’m team who cares and if you do, why? It’s just not that serious to me.
