McDonald’s is giving free McNugget Caviar kits to a select few

Last year, McDonald’s reported that their profits were down, thanks to inflation and the rising cost of living forcing people to cut down on eating out in general. This included fast food joints like McDonalds, which has raised their prices in recent years. So, what is an American fast food staple to do when their most reliable client is the President of the United States? Why, cash in on a viral food trend just in time for Valentine’s Day, of course!

On February 10, McDonald’s is offering a limited edition, online-exclusive meal that will also function as a romantic, at-home Valentine’s Day option: the McNugget Caviar kit. It’s fancy meets affordability! In fact, the McNugget Caviar kit is so affordable that it’s free for those lucky diners who are quick enough to order it before it sells out. McDonalds is so proud of this promotion that they even have a countdown on their website for it. Move over, chicken and waffles. There’s a new combo in town.

The McNugget and caviar combo is inspired by the viral dish served at the U.S. Open in August 2025. New York-based Korean-inspired fried chicken restaurant COQODAQ sold six chicken nuggets topped with Petrossian caviar, creme fraiche and chives at the tennis championships for $100. Considered a luxury, caviar is salt-cured, unfertilized fish eggs.

Understanding its target audience, McDonald’s is offering its caviar kit for free. Folks just need to sign up for a kit when they drop online.

[From USA Today]

As Yahoo points out, the offering is inspired by a popular item that went viral at the US Open last summer. It’s not as random as it feels, but at free-99, this item cannot be the same quality of caviar that was served there. That said, McDonald’s coming out with a McNugget Caviar kit is peak Trump Era offering, no? “Let them eat cheap-o caviar!” feels like a potential future rallying cry. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was a test-run for a menu option in the big dumb ballroom.

I’ve only ever tried caviar once, about 15 years ago. Neither McDonald’s or caviar are really my jam, so I will respectfully decline this interesting combination. According to Reddit, fried chicken and caviar are absolutely a thing. My favorite comment called it ”elevated stoner food”, which gave me a chuckle. It did get me thinking about other unlikely food combinations, like dipping french fries in milk shakes or mixing peanut butter with pickles. Maybe McNugget Caviar kits are the next big trend that’s waiting to be discovered.

McDonald’s fries aren’t even good anymore. I doubt their caviar will be.
