Maya Hawke married Christian Lee Hutson on Valentine’s Day in New York City

As a Gen X mom this story gets me a little weepy. Stranger Things star Maya Hawke, 27, married musician Christian Lee Hutson, 35, in what’s being called a surprise Valentine’s Day wedding in New York City. Given that Maya’s parents and Stranger Things costars were there and that she wore an incredible custom Prada wedding gown, I assume it was only a surprise to the press. People Magazine has more details along with exclusive photos that you can see on their site. I’ve also embedded their Instagram post with photos below:

Maya’s famous parents — dad, Ethan Hawke, and mom, Uma Thurman — were both in attendance, as were many of her Stranger Things castmates, including Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery.

Maya wore a white wedding dress with an oversized and feathery winter coat, while Hutson kept things classic in a tuxedo.

Mother of the bride Thurman, 55, paired a light blue gown with matching shoes, while Ethan, also 55, wore an all-black ensemble.

The former pair were married from 1998 to 2005. Along with Maya, they also share a son Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke, who was also in attendance at the Feb. 14 nuptials. (Ethan is also dad to Clementine Jean Hawke and Indiana Hawke, whom he welcomed with his wife, Ryan Shawhughes Hawke, and Thurman has another daughter, Luna, with ex-fiancé Arpad Busson.)

I hadn’t heard that Maya had a boyfriend, but there are plenty of photos of them at events together and performing. Christian has photos on Instagram with Maya from May, 2024, when he first worked with her. He’s worked with her on two studio albums, Chaos Angel and Moss. I listened to the title single for Chaos Angel and it’s such a beautiful haunting song! Maya also sang and contributed lyrics for Christian’s last studio album, Paradise Pop.

I love Maya’s Prada gown, it’s so classic and pretty, and the little feathered jacket is gorgeous! She looks so happy on her big day. I’m glad we got to see photos outside her wedding and of the guests. Also it blows my mind that Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke’s daughter is old enough to be married. Look at how proud Ethan looks! Maya is one of my favorite nepo babies and I wish her a lifetime of happiness with Christian.

I’ve not seen a single episode of Stranger Things and know nothing about this couple. I genuinely would not have known she was Uma and Ethan’s daughter, and no clue about him at all. That said, everybody looked lovely, and I hope they had a perfect wedding day and a beautiful future ahead of them.

I really love her dress. There’s just something so romantic about getting married in Manhattan. I wish I could have afforded that!

  3. Mightymolly says:

Absolutely lovely! With so many working celebs in attendance, this must’ve been on the calendar for awhile. So yeah only a surprise to us. Congratulations to the happy couple!

  4. Mego says:

The dress looks very nice but I would like to see it not in motion.

  5. M says:

The dreaded Prada chest darts strike again. I remember how years ago all of their gowns had those awful darts. They just go too far in towards the center. Otherwise the dress is lovely and classic.

  6. anniefannie says:

Ethan gives off the mixed, adorable vibe of a very invested, sweet Dad who’s anxious to encourage his kids to spread their wings both personally and professionally while still being slightly neurotic about it.

  7. Meghan says:

I’d kill to have Ethan Hawke as a FIL. Just an endless stream of passionate mediations on life, death, humanity, humility, and success.

  8. Lucy says:

I’m just glad to find out she’s 28. I saw she got married and had no concept of her age, and feared that she was super young.

  9. Viva says:

I loved her in Little Women. The perfect Jo. It’s a brilliant adaptation all round really.
