Ethan Hawke is having a somewhat quiet awards season. I was surprised that he even got a Best Actor Oscar nomination for Blue Moon, not because I doubted his performance, but because there didn’t seem to be a ton of awards buzz for him in particular. But sometimes that’s the way it works, and I’m pleased for him. This is his fifth Oscar nomination overall, after being nominated twice in the supporting-actor category and twice in the adapted screenplay category (for the Before films). He’s attended many of the awards-circuit events solo, without his kids or his wife Ryan. I actually wondered if things were okay in his marriage. Well… they’re apparently okay, because Ethan Hawke wants people to know that he enjoys going downtown.

Ethan Hawke candidly made a cheeky sex confession while answering whether or not it’s “bad to eat in bed.”

“Incredibly vulgar things are going through my brain right now,” the “Training Day” star told British Vogue and British GQ in an interview published on Monday.

“I like to eat in bed, but I don’t eat food.”

Hawke, 55, then laughed and rubbed his beard before moving on to the next question. The actor married Ryan Shawhughes in 2008, and the couple shares kids, Clementine Jean and Indiana. Hawke was also previously wed to Uma Thurman from 1998 to 2005.

Certain discourses are cyclical, and I would really enjoy it if we had another pop culture cycle where men were openly talking about whether they go down on their partners. Going from memory, the last time that happened was pre-pandemic, when DJ Khaled said some sh-t about how he never goes down on his wife and a bunch of celebrity men (including Dwayne Johnson) were like, you’re missing out, a real man goes downtown all the time. Good times. Anyway, I’ve always sensed this about Ethan, and it’s one of the reasons why I have such an enduring affection for him. That man has always looked like he prioritizes a woman’s pleasure.
