Kate Hudson wore a Grecian Valentino to the SAG/Actor Awards

I was surprised to hear that Kate Hudson was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Song Sung Blue, but then I saw it and understood. There’s something so likeable about Kate and she really turned in a strong performance. It’s not a Best Actress level role, but I get why she was nominated. You believe that she’s a down on her luck lounge singer in Wisconsin in the 1990s. My only complaint about that film is that they muddled the technology and setting and didn’t really seem to care about those details. Kate was also nominated last night at the Actor Awards (nee SAG Awards) and her category went to Jessie Buckley. Jessie is a shoe-in for the Oscar.

Kate wore a lovely cutout Valentino that would have been better in a bolder color. I dislike the bandeau top and the cutout underneath, but again she’s so sunny and likeable that I can’t nitpick too much. Check out how this billows behind her! Kate was there with her podcast cohost, her brother Oliver Hudson.

Presenter Allison Janney was in a cream Raisa Vanessa column gown with circular embellishments and a bold wrap-like neckline. I loved this gown on camera and found it so striking. I’m including a bonus pic of her posing with Sarah Paulson.

Sarah Paulson was in a vintage Yves Saint Laurent from 1979. I saw on her stylist’s Instagram stories that this has pockets which were added just for her. When I first saw this gown on the carpet it looked comical to me, but during the ceremony I noticed the fact that the sequins kind of drip over it. It’s amazing. Look at her fawning over Connor Storrie! I love it.

The Studio’s Chase Sui Wonders slayed in a strapless Miss Sohee gown with leaf-like sequins. I learned during Seth Rogen’s acceptance speech that they do this show in single takes?! I hope he was just talking about their episode about that, The Oner, which may be the case. That episode was so stressful. I like this show but I find it hard to take.

Kathryn Hahn was in Viktor & Ralph. The older I get the more I appreciate these big structural gowns.

Here’s the Studio’s acceptance speech!

I find Kate Hudson quite irritating. She comes across as wanting so badly to be liked, to be found amusing and interesting, when in fact, nothing about her grabs my interest.
I avoid anything she appears in, acting, interviews, anything…
Happy to be a in a club of one!

Club of 2… I’m with you

I find her irritating, too, but really liked her in “Song Sung Blue,” probably because the true-life character she plays is someone to root hard for.

Kate’s Wisconsin accent was pretty good, too.

The ‘sunny, likable’’ schtick was learned from mom Goldie Hawn, who perfected and coasted on it throughout her career. Interesting to hear that Kate’s performance in SSB actually stands on its own, and she might do better dialing back the persona since it rubs some people the wrong way.

Kathryn’s hair is a mess! Does she go to the same stylist as Maggie Gyllenhaal? They always look like they came from the gym. Yikes.

    Everyone looks lovely!

LOVED Kathryn Hahn’s dress and like Kate’s. I feel like she’s done this silhouette a lot over the years but it works for her. The flow of the cape is nice.

I agree about Kate’s gown, it would have been better in a darker color, but it’s properly fitted and overall a nice shape, IMO.

She seems to consistently have problems getting her hair and makeup right, which baffles me. Clearly she can have a great hair and makeup team, so why are those parts of her looks so often wrong?

Here her hair is too flat, she needs more volume above or around her face, both to balance the dress and flatter her face more. And the eye makeup is just bad, the wrong color for both her skin and the dress, and she needs a darker lip color in such a pale gown.

I adore Alison Janney but for me that dress is too much fashion-robot and not enough Alison. She looks a bit like an advanced model Dalek.

I still say Kate Hudson took Lucy Liu’s (movie is Rosemead) spot- nomination.
