Dan Levy was on The Tonight Show this week to plug his new Netflix series, Big Mistakes. It’s a comedy that co-stars Taylor Ortega and Laurie Metcalf and drops on April 9. During the interview, Jimmy Fallon brought up that the first time Dan ever appeared on his show was when he was promoting Schitt’s Creek alongside his former castmates, including the late, great Catherine O’Hara.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than two months since Catherine’s sudden passing. She was taken from us far too soon! She played such an incredible range of memorable characters and was universally loved. Dan told Jimmy that, although he misses her, he takes comfort in knowing how loved she was.
Dan Levy is sharing the one thing he has found comfort in following the death of his Schitt’s Creek costar and close friend, Catherine O’Hara.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, March 31, the host mentioned that Levy’s first time on the talk show had been alongside his fellow Schitt’s Creek cast members, which included O’Hara.
Levy, 42, told Fallon, 51, after the host offered his condolences, “Listen, it’s like a collective loss, I think. She was the greatest. She’s irreplaceable.”
“The great comfort for me has just been to see how loved she was, you know what I mean? The outpouring. Everyone felt like they kind of knew her,” Levy continued.
Fallon described O’Hara as “one of the funniest comedians I’ve ever seen. Can do characters … Gorgeous,” as Dan added, “Unbelievably talented at improvising. One of the great, great, great, great queens.”
I understand what Dan means when he says that he gets comfort from seeing all of the love for Catherine. In the days after her passing, the many wonderful tributes from her friends, fans, and colleagues gave me comfort, too. He’s right that she was just one of those actresses who was so talented and beloved that when she passed, so many people felt like they’d lost someone they knew. It felt like the world mourned together as people shared stories and clips of her work. That’s quite a legacy to leave in such a divided world.
As for Big Mistakes, Netflix’s official description reads, “Blackmailed into working for some very dangerous people, two deeply incapable siblings become the most disorganized duo in organized crime.” Dan, who is also serving as showrunner, told Jimmy that the idea for the series was inspired by his own “irrational fear” of being blackmailed into organized crime. It looks like it could be fun. I’m a big Dan Levy fan, so I’ll give it a shot.

I’ll watch his new show. Laurie Metcalf is an excellent and underrated comedic actress. And Levy is adorable and I loved all his commercials. Catherine O’Hara was a queen. Best in Show was such a blast and she had a field day with her “slutty” past and interactions with prior lovers, who always called her “the best they ever had.” I’d love to see Parker Posey on his show too. She was hilarious in Best in Show as an angry, bitchy dog owner. She too is massively underrated and would be a beloved asset on his new show.
He’s delightful. I love how he turns a phrase and how expressive he is. Absolutely going to watch!
I have been re-watching Schitt‘s Creek on HBO Max and I’m down to the final episodes on the last season and it gives me so much stress to know that I’m almost done! I love Catherine O’Hara so much and it has been such a joy to rewatch that show. She brightens up my day and steals every scene she’s in! It has been a treat every day to watch her, and I’ll be so sad when the series is over. I love that show SO MUCH!!!!!
