Last night was the big NYC premiere for The Devil Wears Prada 2. While there’s so much excitement around this twenty-years-later sequel, the premiere fashion was not really going from strength to strength. I’m sure Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt each have their own individual stylists, but this would have been the perfect moment for some coordination between those three camps. I’m not asking for a Margot Robbie/Zendaya-esque theme-dressing extravaganza, just some coordination!
So, for the three main ladies of TDWP2, Anne wore this very structured Louis Vuitton dress in a lipstick red – I like this from the waist up, but overall… she could have done much better. Meryl wore Givenchy, and it’s horrible. Why would you put Meryl Streep in a glorified poncho??! Emily Blunt wore Schiaparelli, and it feels like she’s the only cast member who tried to go big and over-the-top. I dislike this dress, but I appreciate that she brought some drama.
Other premiere attendees, and this is not a comprehensive guest list… I’m including pics of Lady Gaga in a boring-ass Saint Laurent, Coco Rocha in a fantastic and fun Christian Siriano, and Justin Theroux and his wife Nicole Brydon Bloom. They just welcomed their first child, a son, a few days ago. I find that inhumane, actually, asking Nicole to walk a red carpet so quickly after giving birth. It would have not killed Justin to walk the carpet solo, but maybe it was Nicole’s choice.

I don’t think anybody “puts” Meryl Streep in anything – I’m sure this was her choice. I like Anne’s dress – LV has been doing some amazing construction – but I’m not sure about the proportion of the bodice. Too long, too short?
I actually like Meryl’s dress – it’s a statement and she looks like the absolute boss that she is.
Comfort dressing, at an event of this magnitude, that looks this good, is a boss move. For comparison, see any of the atrocities worn by queen side piece….
I also LOVE what Meryl is wearing. So elegant and glam. I wish the hemline was different but other than that I think she looks amazing.
I don’t know her name but that beautiful actress from Bridger ton was there in a green Prada dress and she was also gorgeous.
I like it too, it’s dramatic and the gloves go great. Anne’s dress is a snooze fest.
She was absolutely killing it fashion wise that brief moment she was with Law Roach. Her fashion during this promo has been underwhelming imo. Which is fine if the movie wasn’t all about fashion.
I love Anne’s dress but not for this event for some reason. It’s a gorgeous color and cut but I think she should have gone for more of a statement, like Emily did (I dont love that dress but I appreciate her efforts.) But then I think Lady Gaga looks gorgeous and her dress is fairly simple.
I’m excited for this movie but not sure I’ll see it in the theaters, schedule wise.
What’s going on with Anne Hathaway’s face?
Nothing! I’m so sick of this question popping up on practically every post that features a woman (women). Do some, even most, have some sort of “refresh” done? Of course they do, but this incessant need to constantly point it out (question it) is getting really tired. Enough already.
*rant over, just needed to get that out
Seriously! Last time it was about Emily too. Not that it even matters but these pics aren’t even high enough quality to elicit that kind of a response!
Anne looks… exactly like herself!
There are more polite ways to point it out, but I think it is better than pretending that these women do not age. We should be asking what we are doing to ourselves, why we are doing it, and what it results in. Celebs are going to be the natural conduit for that discussion. I find it more exhausting to pretend that the massive amount of time, energy, expense and physical risk that women take to look a certain way is off the table for discussion because it is a “personal choice.” There are some worthy discussions to be had.
I know! She looks so weird and plastic and different! Which is a true surprise — I would have thought she’d age in a cool Andy McDowell kind of way and celebrate how her natural face changes over time. Guess not!
And, her shoes are terrible.
It seems all 3 women have had a deep plane face lift. Anne seems to have had the foxy eyes lift, it changed her facial expression. There’s nothing wrong in noticing. Or having face lifts. They can afford it.
Gaga looks like Donatella Versace.
I remember feeling the same way when Tom Cruise and his shenanigans over Katie Holmes were at its peak. Having her at some premiere when she had just had a baby.
Could be wrong but I don’t get the sense that Tom and Justin have similar styles as husbands, or at least I would not jump to the conclusion that Justin made her come to the premiere. She looks relaxed and very pretty; he’s the one that looks exhausted.
I see that unlike his wife, Justin has not lost the baby weight.
Lolz
I’m always surprised at how a woman just delivered a baby and is all up and running and not swollen or looking exhausted at all. I was. Her arms and face look slender. Truly incredible.
wow I hate all of these! well, I don’t hate Anne’s so much in itself, but as a red carpet for a The Devil Wears Prada premiere, I guess I was expecting Met Gala level effort in terms of interesting, beautiful fashion, and this is all either boring or ugly. Pretty disappointing. Which is what I presume the movie will be, based on the previews I’ve seen.
Really hoping Nicole Brydon Bloom ANNOUNCED the birth of her baby a few days ago, but he was actually born a while back. Otherwise how tf is she standing up in stilettos?
Meryl looks satanic in that cape—more of a Halloween vibe than high fashion.
MERYL! Her confidence makes this cape a statement. Lady looks like a total boss.
The top and bottom halves of Emily Blunt’s dress are fighting over who should get more attention.
Ever since I saw Anne Hathaway’s video where she pretends like those little braids are her secret to tight skin, when we all know she had a face lift, she seems so haughty to me. Just be honest, or don’t talk about it at all, but don’t lie.
Justin Theroux’s wife should still be at home resting not getting dressed up for a film premiere. I like the colour of Anne’s dress not the skirt. It’s too big.
I love everyone’s looks here but Emily is my favorite — that dress is stunning and she looks gorgeous in it.
Huh, it’s a big world, because my first response to the headline “who was best dressed” was “it’s not Boobs Breastplate up there”. Fashion is the best playground in the world!
Not a fan of Emily’s dress at all, way too much going on and definitely a case of the dress wearing the person, but I think Meryl and Anne look fantastic. Meryl looks comfortable and confident, while Anne looks classic and beautiful, not fussy & overdone (sometimes less really is more).
Coco Rocha’s dress is amazing! Unfortunately seeing it right after pictures of Meryl Streep made me think of 101 Dalmatians.
It was freezing in New York yesterday, so I applaud all these women walking around in strapless dresses without coats.
Zendaya is the OG blueprint in theme dressing. Margot is not.
I rather like the ‘cow’ dress.
Not a huge fan of any of these but Meryl is probably my fave, a lot of that being how she wears it.
I’ve only seen NBB is Paradise and because she was brilliant I struggle to separate her from her character. I wouldn’t trust her!
I see what they were going for with Meryl’s look, but she isn’t a soignée stick to carry that much volume in a strangely heavy fabric. Almost got there. But nope.
I really like Anne’s structured dress. I hate the top of Emily’s — is that an extra powder puff on her chest?
I love Meryl’s entire look. And Annie’s. Coco Rocha looks amazing too! 101 Dalmatians but make it fashion!
I think Meryl needs less fabric and a sleeker shoe? I think it’s wearing her and not the other way around. Still, it’s not a bad look. I LOVE Emily Blunt’s dress. Justin Theroux looks like be brought his college aged kid with him to a premier, he likes it, I love it.
The ensemble of the cast looks great. Not sure Anne Hathaway looks comfortable in her dress, though
I’m wondering if their fashion is supposed to be satirical like the movie.
Man, I have to disagree, I actually think everyone looks legitimately fantastic and just the right amount of coordinated – I’m honestly pretty taken with Meryl’s outfit in particular, just really boss move in keeping with the film – heard about the much younger wife having to show up days after giving birth though, weird vibes on that entire thing, and him in particular, Hope it’s what she wanted.
I actually LOVE Emily and Anne’s dresses. I don’t hate what Meryl is wearing but I don’t love it either.
I think Stanley Tucci looks the best.
