The first cast photocall for The Odyssey happened Sunday in London. The primary cast was there, give or take Charlize Theron. Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and Samantha Morton were all there, as were a few other cast members. I hope this promotional tour is brief – while I always enjoy seeing fashion photos of these ladies, I get sympathy-exhaustion from watching these large casts trudge through twelve cities in two weeks. It’s unnecessary at this point as well.
Still, the fashion is fun. Zendaya got the most attention, obviously, with her custom Jacquemus dress, obviously inspired by Grecian gowns. Because Law Roach is so extra, he got Barron London to give Zendaya a pair of earrings (to borrow). The earrings are crafted from authentic first-millennium discs and modernized with yellow gold and diamonds (per RCFA).
Additional fashion notes – Samantha Morton, who plays Circe, wore McQueen. Anne Hathaway wore a cute Blumarine on her expanding baby bump. And Lupita Nyong’o wore Chanel, because she’s a Chanel brand ambassador. Lupita is playing Helen of Troy and Helen’s sister Clytemnestra. I’m really excited to see how that plays out. I’m also interested in seeing if any of these women are on camera for more than ten minutes total.

Zendaya’s bringing it, but they all look great.
Helen of Troy is just a minor figure in the Odyssey (only in one “scene”) and Clytemnestra isn’t in it at all, although she’s mentioned – so I don’t expect much screen time for them. Circe is in Books 10-12, so she’ll be more visible. And Penelope is major – in the setup at the beginning and in the last three Books.
All these women look incredible. Zendaya’s look is my favorite, of course, but Lupita looks exceptional as well in that Chanel. Pregnancy really suits Anne—she’s glowing and looks gorgeous.

I don’t know how I feel about Nolan’s adaptation of Odysseus. It’s intriguing enough to make me curious. I still have to work at Matt Damon playing that role of a grizzled, world weary hero/anti-hero character. I liked him in the action-packed Jason Bourne movies.
The Chanel dress proves Lupita can pull off anything. Her face is so gorgeous it’s all I see.

The women really are bringing it and the men look like they got dressed last minute with whatever was left in their suitcases.
Is it just me or are the ladies doing all the heavy lifting in this photocall- hair, makeup, couture, jewellery etc. while the guys look like they just swung by on their way to the pub, wearing jeans and sneakers? It’s weird. Also, I never before today noticed that no woman ever would be allowed to keep her sunglasses on during a photocall. The guys do get to wear them, though.

I’m sorry to say I don’t like Anne Hathaway, but with that being said, I think she had a pretty much flawless face. She really was gifted with a beautiful, if annoying, face. I can really tell in these pictures that she messed with it. For no reason. She really needed no help at all.
