US Weekly is criticizing Kate Gosselin for choosing to go get a pedicure and a spray tan instead of spending time with her kids. It was her husband’s scheduled time with them, though, and it’s not like she could be there too without getting in an argument and smacking him repeatedly. I went to the gym and got a pedicure yesterday but that doesn’t make me a bad mom for not spending every waking moment with my kid. Still, Kate saw her kids for a whole 20 minutes on Thursday before she left again to go to an interview. Her behavior doesn’t jibe with the broken record “I just want to be with my kids” stuff she says in every interview. In fact just last week she said she would trade places with her babysitter “in a micro-millisecond.” She just wouldn’t trade an interview on Regis & Kelly.

Leaving her eight children behind at their $1.1 million home with their father Jon, she hit up her fave local fake bake joint and also made time for a pedicure.
Kate, 35, hasn’t spent much time with her kids since her run on DWTS wrapped up.
After catching up with them for 20 minutes on Thursday, she hopped into a limousine with her bodyguard Steve Neild, with whom she has denied having an affair, to drive to New York City to tape an apperance on Live with Regis and Kelly.
Kate told Entertainment Tonight last Tuesday that she was looking forward to seeing her children more now that she no longer has to fly back and forth to L.A. to tape the ABC show each week.
“They’ll be glad to have me back,” she said. “I’m thrilled to have been here and obviously going back to my kids is always a wonderful thing.”
Soon Kate and the kids will be spending more time together… working.
TMZ.com reported Sunday that paperwork has been filed with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Labor and Industry for them to appear on TLC specials.
“The proper steps have been taken and the kids are permitted for Kate Plus 8,” the rep said. (No paperwork has been submitted for the reality mom’s other show, Twist of Kate.)

I have not and will not watch any of her shows. However, she has to earn money to support those children so she does what she has to do. Thankfully that keeps taxpayers from supporting her and the children.
Who cares what she does when it’s Jon’s scheduled time with the kids? She shouldn’t be around for that, just like he shouldn’t be around for her scheduled time. They are divorced.
I never watched her show on TLC and I never will…I can’t stand Kate just from seeing her on DWTS. Who could possibly like this woman? I guess it’s like seeing a car accident – you can’t take your eyes away from this dysfunctional person and her family just because of the morbid curiosity.
Puh-leez!!! She’s not allowed to take a little time for herself? She’s the one working hard to get money to raise these eight kids…not Jon! Besides, it was HIS time with them. There’s no problem with her taking some time to get some things done. (I don’t even tan OR get my nails done, either, but give this poor woman a break!)
I’m on team Jon…sort of. He always ends up doing something disappointing, which makes it hard to stay on his team. However, I think Kate (the ex wife from hell) has been steam rolling his a*s for a long time. He didn’t have a chance of coming out of the divorce well, and I don’t think she gives a crap if she ruins him in the process of her getting ahead. Which is kind of sad because his well-being affects her children’s well-being, and he shouldn’t be selling a car to make child support payments. We all know Kate doesn’t need the extra money per month. I think both of these fools needs to let go of their desire for celebrity (because we know neither of them have one drop of talent). I don’t know if it’s their pride, ego, or greed that is prohibiting them from doing that. But, the world would be a much better place if they would just go back to PA and work regular jobs just like all the rest of us.

Would someone please explain this to me? Why does Jon have a $22,000 per month support payment to Kate? Wouldn’t most fathers go to court to get that amount adjusted if his income did not warrant that high of an amount? I am not a fan of either one of them. But I thought the amount of child support depended on the father’s income, not what the mother wanted to support the lifestyle she craved. Why is she not paying alimony to him? It looks as if she is making a whole lot more money than he is.
If parenting is a 50-50 concept – is her support of the children $22,000 per month, as well? And since when does it take $44,000 per month to raise eight children?? That’s $5,500 per month per child.

Since it was Jon’s turn to be with the kids then why can’t she be allowed to do her business? I do believe Jon is right in wanting to ask for shared custody, he definitely cannot afford $22,000 child support payments. As long as he doesn’t bring his girlfriends along to act as nannys. I do believe Kate is right in having security with her at all times, she definitely has a lot of people who hate her. Hate is such a waste of energy.

I could have sworn I read she was turned down when she went to see them during his time. That’s just sad that neither can be around each other long enough to see the children during the other’s time.
Look, whether you find her personality abrasive or not, I have never questioned her love and devotion for her kids. She is certainly a more hands-on parent than their dead-beat dad.
So the woman got a spray tan and her nails painted – hellooo, most women like to get a little pampering. Just because she’s a mom doesn’t mean that every single waking moment of her day has to be child-related. She’s got the money to make sure they’re being properly cared for, and this means she can be a little more independent.
I think our society is so sexist toward moms. We don’t bat an eye at absentee dads who are gone all the time because they’re working and providing for their families (and having fun down-time on their business trips). But we judge moms who do the same thing.
Is she the only person to do DWTS and not lose any weight?
I see a lot of posts on here about here taking time for herself & while I don’t begrudge her this, I can’t help but think about my mother and also here sister who were divorced and had to work.
forgive me for saying this, but there were times they both looked like SHIT. My mom was raising two, My Aunt was raising four. They sacrificed “Luxuries” so us kids could have things. The things that Kate is having in this article are Luxuries. & as far as having time to herself–Fuck Her. When you have children, even one, there is no “ME TIME” The kids didn’t ask to be here, but now until they are 18 its about them.

The intitial amt of support was based on his income at the time of the court order, a court can only charge a percentage of the income of the parent, the aren’t going to charge in excess of @40-50% of a parents monthly income in child support; that being said if he was ordered to pay $22 grand a month it would stand to reason that he was making about 2X that… now if you think living on 20K a month is a challenge then I want your life. 😉 In reality, and this happens a ton especially in these financial times, If a parents income/ability to pay has changed, which in his case it clearly has, all he has to do is petition the court to reset the support amt, it probably won’t be retroactive so he better get on top of that as soon as possible. But that is up to him and his lawyer.

From what I understand he is not paying any alimony, only child support (and that is usually state mandated), not to mention it is a hell of a ton cheaper to file a support reduction than to end up in court because of failure to pay.
This isn’t a pro-Jon or pro-Kate comment, it is just a pro-facts one. I only wonder if they only reason he is reluctant to ask for reduced support payments are based on pride, I know quite a few men/women who did not have primary custody (which he never fought initially) who were too embarassed to admit to a job/income loss and petition the court for a reassesment. Just a thought.

If she was attending to herself when she was on kid duty then I’d be the first to question it but it was Jon’s time! So ‘cannot stand her’ as I do she’s more than entitled to try whatever it takes to make herself more palatable to the eye. It’ll take more than a pedicure and a tan but whatever works for her.
I have a theory that Jon may have had an early mid-life crisis or just lost his mind a little… time will tell. His masterful douchebaggery may or may not be temporary. I must confess, I am with others who have pointed out that it was his time with the kids, what was she supposed to do? She can’t and shouldn’t hang around during his time with them. If she did he would be mad, and I wouldn’t blame him it is his time set aside by the court and she needs to leave them be to do their own thing, so if she decides to get a pedicure and a spray tan, or go shopping, or to a movie, or sit in a park and read that seems perfectly reasonable.
Spray & pedi take about an hour, plus it was Jon’s time. She is a working mom of a ton of kids, let her paint her talons in peace. She’ll surely provide something more controvesial to get worked up over in the future.

1. to hhhmmmmm and anyone else: SHE DOES NOT HAVE TO WORK TO SUPPORT HER KIDS. She could live off the interest income of what she has made so far (millions, people, millions) and never work again and be perfectly comfortable. I’m not even including child support in that!
2. I don’t begrudge anyone time away from their kids. That’s a straw man. The problem is she goes ON AND ON to anyone who will listen about how much she misses her kids, how much she wishes she could be at home instead of out working to support them (see #1), and then the first chance she gets to spend extended time with them? She leaves after 20 minutes.
THAT is the problem. She’s a liar in two ways: she doesn’t have to earn another penny AND she could spend every moment with them if she wanted to. Clearly, she does not want to. Actions speak louder than words.

I think one of the problems here is that Kate keeps whining that everything she does is for her kids and that she doesn’t have a choice but to do all these things to support them. Obviously she has no shortage of money, she made millions from the TV show alone, nonetheless the books and TV show appearances. Spending thousands of dollars on hairstyles, makeup artists, tans, manicures, etc. just goes to show this woman’s finances are beyond secure and she should stop leeching off those children and actually take care of them and get off TV Land forever. With the way those parents spend, those children won’t have much left. Thank heavens they are forced to set aside 15% of the earnings in a trust fund by law… they will squander the rest, guaranteed.

The tan and pedicure is excuseable, especially if she got those done during Jon’s time with the kids. But taking off for interview after interview is what pisses me off about this broad. She keeps saying how much she wants to see her children, but obviously she doesn’t want to see them THAT much. She’d much rather get dressed up and go on TV. I feel so sorry for those kids. You know your life is crap when only one of my parents really gives a damn about you, and that parent in Jon Gosselin.
@ligeia – I think the issue is that Kate keeps claiming that all this work and leaving the kids is so she can support them. And it is expensive to get a spray tan. In the DC area where I live, it is about $30 each visit so you do the math for all the times that witch is seen leaving a tanning salon. And pedi’s are a bit cheaper, but why doesn’t she use that money to support her supposedly precious kids?
I agree with many I think Jon is suffering from many years of emotional abuse and physical on some occasions, with that witch. Starting with the fact that he let her steamroll him into even having those extra 6 kids. Yes, I know he is just as culpable as her, but he suffers from a lack of backbone and now is misbehaving. I had a dad like that too, well, he never acted childish, but he let my mom steamroll him, emotionally and physically abuse him and he was miserable and he died a miserable death too young. I saw all of that in Jon, but then Jon had to go and act like the juvenile that he has probably always been.

I watched the show for 10 minutes and Jon was helping to put together a bunk bed or something for the kids – and he seemed nice while Kate seemed really mean, she was berating him the whole time. Maybe Jon gets the ladies because he actually is a nice person?

If you feel the need to jump through hoops to have six kids at once, you really should have the money and desire to raise them. After all they’ve been through, after all the money made off of them, the children deserve to be raised by their parents, not hired help.
There is nothing sexist about saying that Kate should be home raising her kids. If you decide to do something so crazy as have a litter of kids, you cannot realistically expect to have a career until MAYBE they are somewhat self-sufficient.
Furthermore, Jon and Kate should have never divorced. They only did so because they had the means to do it. They are two spoiled rotten, sorry excuses for parents. Real parents would have found a way to work it out.
