It feels like Chris Evans made a plan to take a step back from Hollywood and he actually followed through and succeeded with that plan. He lives in Massachusetts full-time, he married Alba Baptista in 2023, and last fall they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Alma Grace Evans. Alba and Chris have made one public outing together this year – they attended the Vanity Fair Oscar party, and Chris had the tired eyes of a first-time parent. Well, Chris recently gave an interview to the Dodo and he chatted about fatherhood and his dog, Dodger.
Chris Evans is in his element as a newly minted girl dad — and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I guess it sounds a little cheesy, but not to other parents, how much you miss them,” Evans, 45, told The Dodo in an interview published Tuesday, August 18, revealing the most unexpected part of fatherhood to date. “You know, we’ll put her down for a nap and I’m, like, ‘Aw,’ I just want to see what she’s looking like on the baby monitor.”
He continued, “You miss her when you’re holding her, you know what I mean? It’s a strange feeling. You just want to be around her all the time.”
Evans and his wife, Alba Baptista, reportedly welcomed their first baby, a daughter named Alma Grace, in October 2025. Since Alma’s arrival, Evans also saw his beloved pet dog Dodger leap into “protective” mode.
“He’s been incredible. He’s so loving, he’s so protective. He’ll sleep outside her room when she’s napping,” the Marvel star gushed to The Dodo. “He has a great instinct for young things, whether it’s a person or a puppy. He’s very gentle.”
According to Evans, Dodger has long known how to behave around little ones.
“Back when [I] first brought him home over 10 years ago, my sister’s kids [were] much younger. Tug-of-war with me is a battle, tug-of-war with my niece, [Dodger] just knew how to turn the volume down,” he recalled. “He’s really sweet, and he’s done that with my daughter. It warms the heart.”
I’m glad Dodger is adjusting to no longer being an only child. Some dogs love babies and some dogs don’t – Dodger sounds well-adjusted and kid-friendly. It sounds like Chris has adjusted well too – being a first-time dad at 45 is probably blowing his mind. But it sounds like he’s happier than ever. Good for him.

I saw Chris at FanExpo Boston last week. I congratulated him on becoming a dad and he just BEAMED.
I have a beautiful daughter, too. I don’t understand Chris saying, “You miss her when you’re holding her.” I get that he adores his daughter, but I’ve just never experienced that feeling. Of course, as a baby she liked to sleep in my arms instead of her crib for her two long naps. It was a great time and I also got a lot of reading done while holding and rocking my baby.
Good for him for being happy but it still a bit cliche’. Heartthrob soiling his oats for the past 20-25years and is finally ready to settle down BUT its with a 20 something who should be soiling her own oats. Hopefully the cliche ends there and he doesnt hit mid life crisis in 10years and cheats on her with someone even younger than her and she waxes poetic about not truly enjoying her 20s and her career taking a backseat to his.
