George Lopez got fired from TBS: will Sandra Bullock help him out?

wenn2704605

George Lopez lost his job yesterday. TBS announced that they were canceling his late-night talk show, Lopez Tonight, less than a year after the show got pushed back in favor of Conan O’Brien’s TBS talk show. Did you know Lopez Tonight was only air for two years? It felt like longer, maybe because things that suck always feel like they’re going on forever. Anyway, George is probably already updating his CV and looking for a new job, so this is the perfect time to remind everyone that he’s friends with Sandra Bullock.

George Lopez may be in transition again – his TBS talk show was canceled this week – but he knows he can always count on one close friend in particular: Sandra Bullock.

“If it wasn’t for her involvement in me, or her belief in me, I would have had a very different last 10 years,” Lopez, 50, told PEOPLE Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, where he threw out the first pitch to promote MasterCard’s support of Stand Up 2 Cancer.

Lopez didn’t speak about TBS’s decision – Lopez Tonight will end its almost two-year run on Thursday – but he made it clear that without Bullock, he may never have made it to late night TV at all.

“She invested in me, and she wouldn’t take no for an answer. And with that, and just who she is, she has my undying love, and my undying loyalty,” he said. “Every day I thank her for believing in me.”

Of course, Lopez is not the only lucky one in the Oscar winner’s life. She now has baby Louis to dote on. “I can only say that I did not have a mother, and I would have very much liked that one to be mine!” Lopez says with a laugh. “She’s already my fairy godmother, but any child that gets to be in Sandra Bullock’s arms is going to be a great person.”

Though his talk show is now over, it certainly sounds like Lopez has a good outlook on life in general.

“I live every day like an 11th grader,” he says. “Not a senior, because then you have to worry about college, but when you’re in 11th grade, you know you’re coming back to the same school with the same friends. So, I try to enjoy myself and live life every day.”

[From People]

Bullock produced his old sitcom, and they’ve been friends for years. I’m not sure if she can dig him out of this hole, though. In the past few years, Lopez has had several personal and professional problems. There were lots of rumors about how he was screwing hookers behind his wife‘s back (the same wife who gave him a kidney), and then he and his wife split up shortly after that report. Then, there were all of the problems with his show, which was at best hacky, and at worst, rude and dysfunctional. So, am I reading this interview correctly? Is this Lopez’s plea to Bullock to give him a job?

Blah, Blah, Blah…I’ve never really been a big fan of Lopez, but as much ass kissing as he’s doing to Sandra. I’m sure she may throw him a bone.

  2. Stubbylove says:

Thank God – finally! I watched the show for maybe 2 minutes when it first aired – he wasn’t funny – he was moronic & obnoxious. I’m sure Johnny Carson was rollin’ over in his grave.

  3. CallieTrichid says:

“This just goes to further the stereotype that George Lopez is funny.”

  4. brin says:

Her taste in men is a bit questionable. I hope she doesn’t bail him out, he’s a creep.

  5. Thea says:

He was fired because he isnt funny for one thing and after taking his wife’s kidney, and doing what he did, I think he deserves it. And Sandra needs to distance herself from this one, like she did the other creature.

  6. Truthful says:

I hope his wife got all of her settlement, she deserves it.

  7. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I have never seen any proof that George Lopez is a bad guy. I also find him super funny, love his stand. I was pretty pissed when I found out his show got canceled. Seriously? Conan pushes George out of his regular time slot and then a year later he gets canceled. Thats such bullsh*t. That really pisses me off. No I wasn’t watching his show to begin with but it was nice having some diversity on the air. They need to give Arsenio Hall another show. Now he was great…he might lure me away from John Stewart addiction…well he just have to join the party because I love The Daily Show.

  8. gee says:

I never liked him, but I know a LOT of people who do.

  9. mln76 says:

I’m all for diversity on air but he just isn’t funny. And yes it’s a matter of record that he divorced his wife after she gave him a kidney and not long after the tab story about him with hookers came out so you do the math.

  10. Maritza says:

He needs to go back to sitcom, that’s where he is funniest, I hated Lopez Tonight.

  11. bunny says:

i never liked him or his comedy, his interviewing skills were awful. He is a terrible actor.

  12. kibbles says:

What a creep. I question Sandra’s judgment after marrying “Vanilla Gorilla” and befriending this ass. I’m glad his show has been cancelled, especially after that incident with him and Tim Gunn dissing Hillary Clinton several weeks ago. Another man who clearly has an antiquated view of women. Hope Sandra decides to cut ties with this D-list loser and cheater.

  13. jamminatorr says:

Totally unrelated but that award that Sandra is holding in the first picture looks like a glass vagina. It should be on Regretsy.

But yeah, George Lopez = not funny

  14. the original bellaluna says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if GL & TG’s anti-pantsuit rant about the Secretary of State had something to do with it. I’m willing to bet the backlash was considerable.

So, instead 40 Rock-ing or NBC-ing it, his show got cancelled.

And also probably because he’s just not that funny.

  15. 4Real says:

He needs to go back to standup he sucked at late night. I used to love his act but after what he did to his wife….smdh.

  16. jover says:

While i wasn’t a big fan of lopez I didn’t think his interviewing skills were any worse than Kimmel, Fallon, Conan, or Jay Leno; but one thing I credit him for he had a lot of bands on that get no pub in the popular press/media and few bands were top forty bs – after all he had on such bands as Rodrigo and Gabriela, the thermals, los lonely boys, andrew stockdale and slash – but thankfully to my knowledge he never had riri or katy perry so that’s a positive in my book. JMHO.

  17. Hot Dog! says:

This guy is such a CREEPER! And not funny. At all.

kibbles: funny that you mention questioning Sandra’s judgement… Had a 2 hour long convo (aka shit talk fest) last night with my bestie, about guy friends and the weirdos they date… Came to the conclusion that there must be something wrong with all of them, cuz they all date total psychos… I’m hoping that it’s because we’re in SF, and the crazy population is higher, cuz if not, my guy friends have problems!!!(one of em’s dating a chick who talks in a baby voice… Grrrrr!!!!)

  18. Denver Danni says:

I was so bummed to hear about his skeezy ways, because I thought his sitcom, while not brilliant, was a great mix for network TV. When my stepson got into The Spy Next Door, I couldn’t believe how terrible his acting was. He does better in the family-friendly genre though. Definitely not a movie actor. He needs some PR assistance – maybe some fans are willing to forgive the wife back stabbing, but I certainly won’t.

  19. Magda says:

When has finding someone not funny become racist….that is ridiculous.

George Lopez has never been funny just more awkward.I don’t care if he was green or purple.

  20. SolitaryAngel says:

I thought some of his standup was funny, although I found most of it to be racist against whites; never watched his talk show after what he did to his wife.

    PROTECT your kidneys, Sandra!!!!

  21. original kate says:

i never watched his talk show but i don’t watch any of them. conan, jay, dave, george, chelsea, etc. are all painfully unfunny and insanely overpaid.

  22. Irene says:

I loved his sitcom but hated his talk show. He is better when scripted.

  23. Ron says:

He’s funny, but not witty. He needs a script.

  24. Juliesunflower says:

    Creep!

  25. Jbonez says:

I have never thought Lopez was funny. Not in his sitcom, movies or talk show. He is a pandering hack. But! I do think he and his wife had an arrangement, so I can’t hate on him too much for the kidney snatching and hooker buying. This is Hollywood and many marriages are business deals. She is a wealthy woman in her own right and definitely won a lot of public sympathy because of Lopez’s shenanigans. Not justifying his behavior, but y’all shouldn’t feel too bad for her. She was not a naive young lady that was duped, but a smart and savvy business woman. Get it, girl!

  26. Amanda G says:

People finally realized Lopez wasn’t funny? Now when will it be Leno’s turn (again)?

  27. jane16 says:

Karma. There are several instances in history that when men throw over their wives, they lose their power, (eg Napoleon).

  28. MaiGirl says:

I think the info about his philandering really hurt his career. I mean, he had such a “family man” persona, and praised his wife to the high heavens in repeated interviews for saving his life. It seems like if a celebrity is determined to do dirt, he either has to become famous as an unrepentant whoremonger (like Charlie Sheen–if it weren’t for the tiger blood insanity, people would have kept chucking him on the chin for each infraction, boys will be boys style), or keep your hos well-paid and few in number, or your career can seriously suffer. Especially on television, the “women’s medium.”

  29. mimi says:

I never liked that show. It looked awful.

  30. buckley says:

HAHA. So glad this hack is fired.

  31. Lucy says:

I love that Sandra Bullock has George’s undying love and gratitude, but the wife who gave him her kidney he screws….what a guy…

  32. Lushus L. says:

    Hide yo kidneys!

  33. Tim says:

Lopez tonight was the best late night show on tv!

  34. Anonymous says:

God i hate the people on this website and the writers they hate on almost everybody, which i guess explain’s why they call this site celebitchy.

It’s like the people who comment on here all the time have nothing better to do than to talk down or hate on someone.

I can go through any celebrity on here almost all are hated by someone. From A list, to D, list

As far as this story Jorge just lost he’s job that’s it end of story, everything else thrown out by everyone on this thread is just negative and opinionated to add to his lost.

But that’s expected of the people on this site

  35. lucy2 says:

    …anyway…
That stinks for everyone who works on the show, but I can’t say I’ll miss it. I’ve never found him remotely funny, the little bits of the show I saw were pretty bad, and his voice grates on my last nerve.
