Rosamund Pike was trending on Twitter for a while last night after she was one of the first major stars to walk the Golden Globes red carpet. This might be controversial, but I don’t think any new mom should wear this. Rosamund said that Vera Wang had made this for her especially, so it’s not like Rosamund picked this off the rack or something. Vera Wang thought this gown was utterly appropriate for a lady who only gave birth a month ago. For the record, I’m not saying Rosamund has anything to be ashamed of or that new moms should be at home, in the kitchen or something. I just think a recently postpartum lady should not be left so… EXPOSED. The cut-outs on the sides were too much. Also: Rosamund confirmed that she had a boy, but she refused to say his name.
Julianna Margulies wore this Ulyana Sergeenko and Bulgari jewels. This was a disappointment, right? Right. Usually Julianna has great style and she knows her body and what looks good. But this is just… blah.
Robin Wright in Ralph Lauren, and back with Ben Foster. I guess they made up. Huh. I wonder if the engagement is back on? As for her Ralph Lauren… it’s okay. Eh.

Agreed. I think a new mom can totally wear cutouts and show tummy skin if she wants, I don’t think that has anything to do with anything. I just think this dress is flat-out fug and I’ll-fitting.
In that first picture, it looks exactly like the paper clothes that you cut out and put on paper dolls… you know, with the little fold over tabs (to ‘keep’ the clothes on the doll)? Looks just like that… a paper dress, that is just hanging on to the front of her with a couple of paper, folding ‘tabs’.
Love Rosamund, but that dress is HIDEOUS! 🙁

In the pictures it looks horrible on her, so ill-fitting. But when I saw it in motion on the red carpet, it actually looked not bad! Unfortunate really that a dress can do that.

Pike’s dress was like a poor imitation of Emily Blunt’s dress. It doesn’t flatter her at all. I wonder why big name designers can’t get their mind around designing for people who aren’t stick thin.
Marguiles’ dress at the bottom looks like someone took up some extra fabric and sewed it on in a very obvious way. It hangs very awfully.

Back when I got married a Wang dress was very desirable. I looked at them, at the $5,000 price tags, walked out of the stupid bridal boutique and thought if people want to spend that much money on white satin and sequins, they can go ahead. Me, I had a local dressmaker custom make a black and white dress in a Marilyn Monroe style that flattered my curves, and seeing Rosamund last night I thought she’d have looked way better in my dress than that accident that happened when she gave her newborn the scissors and the dress together.
But Kiera’s is still the worst of the night IMO..maybe tied with Clair Danes’s dress.

I don’t think Marguiles dress is that awful really, just meh. That length rarely looks good on anyone IMO. In all the photos she looks really out of it. She must have doubled up on the Xanax to calm her nerves..

Julianna seemed very nervous when presenting the Cecil B. DeMille award to Clooney. Some of her lines fell rather flat due to her delivery.
How is she not milking through it? She must have breast pads in there. Thinking of wearing something so exposed right after having a baby is enough to make my milk let down, and i had my last one a year and a half ago!
I think that white dress would be unflattering on almost anyone. It’s just odd.

No woman should wear that dress, recently post partum or not. It looks like a formal apron. So bad. I felt bad for Pike since she’s lovely and this was a big night for her to shine.
I thought Juliana’s choice was fairly typical of her, she seems to like those highly structured bodices, which to me look way too stiff.
I used to really like Robin’s hair, I thought it was edgy and different, but I think it’s time for something softer. It’s just too severe.
All I can say about the dress is that the straps should have been pulled higher. Also, you can NOT tell she just had a baby! Her body is gorgeous. It’s an absolute non-issue.
Yeah, it looks like something broke and the straps slid everything too far down. It’s hard to believe someone designed it that way on purpose. She looked so beautiful, it’s a shame the dress was so awful. Worst of the night, IMO.
Yes! It’s the length of the straps that played a major role in that dress. As @Jan Harf said, had it been pulled higher, she wouldn’t look that awful last night. When I looked at her last night, I did a double take. And not for a good reason. Such a shame that her dress didn’t match her glowing “new mom”face.
Yep, she looks great and I could never guess she just had a baby. Now the dress…that is just hideous and it would look as bad in anyone else…who told her to take that dress should be fired.

Ha! I was thinking the same thing. Rosamind Pike’s dress had to be one of the worst looks of the evening. It was so ill-fitting nobody would have looked good in that dress not even Kate Hudson or JLo. Rosamind had nice hair and makeup though. The other ladies were ok

Rosamund’s dress is horrendous. Why oh why would you leave the house looking like that? It makes her look wide, which she isn’t. It provides so structure for support for her upper half.
It looks to me like the dress was tailored when she was bigger, or they guessed her post baby size. I think if it had been brought in around the waist and bust it would’ve been much more flattering. I guess she just bounced back her body too quick for Vera!
God no. Good on her for having a baby like 5 minutes ago but that dress was all kinds of wrong. The shape , the cut out panels, the spaghetti straps. My god she could have looked amazing! Great hair and make up though.
I saw a photo of this from the back and it looks even worse from that viewpoint. She looks like a refrigerator from the back in this dress.

Juliana’s dress is weird and that bubble shape doesn’t work. Robin’s top would go better with wide legged trousers. But Rosamond looks like she’s wearing a misshapen bathing suit and the top has no support and the skit is shapeless. Absolutely hideous.
Poor Rosamund, she’s gorgeous and this dress is terrible. Like someone said above it makes her look wide and she’s not and it looks like it’s just hanging on for dear life with no support for the girls. After having had two babies, I can tell you from my experience that not having support up there only one month postpartum is the last thing you want. Did she feel obligated to wear it? Did she even have any input during the design process?

J.Lo after six months of hardcore cardio? Sure? A pale British actress a month after giving birth? what. on. earth. I’m shocked she wore it, maybe she didn’t have any other options.

I think the dress on Rosamund could have looked phenomenal if had been pulled up. Just the way it hung on her, it made a woman who is no way fat look chunky. Plus her boobs weren’t properly supported. An it just looked like she didn’t get a proper fitting. And that probably WAS NOT the case.
Haha..I kept thinking ‘pull up your straps’ too, but honestly I’m not sure I’d like this dress on anyone. I adore Julianne M, but you gotta be tall to pull off tea length or it comes off a bit frumpy.
Rosamund is so friggin gorgeous, but I have such secondhand embarrassment seeing her in this dress!!! It did not fit her properly. There really is only one body type that can wear this kind of dress, which is super thin model-types. I think this dress makes her look heavier than she is.

I agree. I don’t think those comments were made to shame, but I feel uncomfortable telling/advising a new mom what she should and should not wear. That said, I think we can all agree that the dress was not only ill-fitted, but poorly constructed that I cannot figure out who or what body type could get away with it.
Damn, Girl. That dress was…I can see what it could have been-the skirt on it was lovely,that’s about all. From the waist up, it looked like it hadn’t been finished yet. If you put it on and you feel weird, don’t wear it! JM just yanked some grandma’s holiday tablecloth and wrapped up. So bad.
I thought it was awkward Guiliana chiming in via Ryan to “bow down” to Pike for wearing a revealing gown so soon. Just seems indelicate plus elephant in the room is that G has no body fat and would probably run screaming to Soul Cycle if she looked like Rosamund.
Such a shame because her hair and make up were just on point, but that dress is tragic. I was afraid it would fall off and expose her any second, it looked so precariously put on. Sigh.
The material and color of Pike’s dress I love. I like her hairstyle with the dress too. The top of the dress- there are very few people I can think of who would really look good in it, (could even Rihanna pull it off)? but I do think it was a bold move on her part to wear it.

The dress itself is not very good, but I am perplexed with the idea that you shouldn’t show skin postpartum. Even if it’s in bad taste, it’s her body, she has a right to show it, whether she’s a mother, an aunt or a grandma. End of story.
That dress is tragic! I find Rosamund to be a terrible actress. I’ve yet to see Gone Girl.

I agree that Rosamund’s dress was dreadful. I have read that she is nursing her baby, and if that is true, how could she ever have thought that this was a good choice? Did VW build in a special pocket for nursing pads? What if, God forbid, she had leaked? Considering that despite my careful planning I leaked on a couple of very public occasions, I am stunned. Kudos to her if she made it through that long evening without an emergency, but the dress is still awful.
You read my mind! I couldn’t imagine that being comfortable in the first place, much less with leakage being a possibility! And for those who will chime on re pads- guess what? You can soak through the pads. Hope that didn’t happen to her!

I personally think Rosamund Pike is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood by far, classical features, perfect English Rose complexion, perfect face and the body of a real goddess. A real icy, blonde goddess. She could kick Gwynnie-poo of Kate Hudson to the dust-bin in a New York second, as far as I’m concerned
Which is why this dress is such a tragedy. Rosamund needs to hire a stylist – Pronto – Lupita’s stylist for one would be fantastic.
