Here are some photos from last night’s premiere of Gods of Egypt, the film which looks mind-numbingly, appallingly bad. Like, I can’t believe some studio executive at Lionsgate thought this movie would be a good idea. I can’t believe someone was like, “Let’s make a movie called the Gods of Egypt and cast Gerard Butler and the sister-banger from Game of Thrones!” WTF? Apparently, the film cost $140 million to make (not including an expensive marketing campaign). And it’s predicted to open with $15 million. *sad clown noise*
Ugh. This movie should be called Speaking of White Privilege.
So, I’m including photos of Butler, of course, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Chadwick Boseman. Who would you rather? No, I’m really asking. While my Butler crush died on the vine years ago, I have to admit that he’s looking okay these days. As in, he doesn’t look bloated and sad. Nikolaj looks okay too, I like him with a beard. I would choose Chadwick – whom I adore – if only he didn’t look so embarrassed to be a part of this movie. I feel you, Chadwick. He probably did this film before Marvel hired him for Black Panther.
While Lionsgate is getting most of the blame for greenlighting this bloated disaster, many critics are using this opportunity to slam Gerard Butler too. Red Eye Chicago had a great piece where the guy was like “I should be Butler’s agent, I would do a better job of it.” Gizmodo also did a guide to Butler’s “awful” movie career. Sigh…

Chadwick all but admitted it was crap and took the part because while this is a whitewash wet dream he was offered a part and took it to represent the nationality that there should be more of.
And yes, I will hit it 5 ways to Thursday.
What a cop out. This isn’t about integrity, it’s about money.
Is that sentiment for all involved. And who said anything about integrity.
Good!
Good. Kill this with fire.
WORD
Great great GREAT
None of these men are box office or young and yet they get to star in an overpriced flop.
I’d like to see female actresses of their ages be given chance after chance after chance after chance as well.
Plus one. I’ve said it before, but Gerard Butler is a living example of why this quote is so true: Dare to have the confidence of a mediocre white man!
It’s one of those movies you wonder why they made it lol kind of like hail Cesar
Nikolaj, please. I think he’s gorgeous, crooked nose and all.
He’s so gorgeous and seems to be a decent guy too, but I will not sit through this idiocy for him. I hope the studios finally learn from this.
It looks awful. Truly.
This movie looks so, so bad. A giant CGI mess with ridiculous marketing, not to mention a giant white washing problem.
Poor Chadwick. At least he’s got better stuff lined up. Butler’s career has been a mess for a while now, and yet he still gets role after role. I guess there are a lot of mediocre movies out there.
Butler – phoning it in. Doesn’t care if it’s obvious.
Usually he looks like he smells.
I saw that trailer when I went to see Deadpool and was alarmed at how bad this looks. I do feel bad for Butler. I had high hopes after I saw him in Dear Frankie!!! 🙁
I think he is really talented too. He was good in Dear Frankie (though I hated the movie) and in The Jury. I also willingly admit loving 300. I think his problem was 300 blew up and so did his fame. The notoriety went to his head and started acting like he was pledging Delta at Faber College. There was just too much of him and for someone in his late 30s (at the time), it seemed pathetic. He acted like an idiot and people tired of him quickly. He also made poor movie choices. I see Fassbender almost in the same light. I think if he had a 300 type movie he starred in (and yes, I do know he was in 300) and his life was scrutinized at the same level, people would be just as turned off by his behavior. The difference is, Fassbender makes mostly better movie decisions and can show up on set and be professional.
Awwwwww, I have the sads now 🙁 you didn’t like Dear Frankie? Why not?
@Tacos and TV (love your name, by the way) To make a long story short, I find the mom way too manipulative. I understand her anger at her ex. I don’t agree with her keeping her son from his father while his father was on his deathbed to make amends to his son before his death to protect her lies, which her son knew was happening anyway. Maybe I took too many of my own family issues into the screening, but the mom was not a sympathetic character to me.
As long as it can stay in theaters until after March 10. I know it will stink, but I’m hoping to have a Butler double feature that day. See this movie and London Has Fallen (god I love Aaron Eckhart). March 10 is my birthday and this would be a good present for myself.
I don’t understand why Hollywood keeps doing this. Did they learn nothing from the flop that was Exodus?
Paycheck movie. Did anyone that made the movie even like it?
I’m in the very small minority it seems but I like this kind of movie mindless sword and sandal comic book stuff with CGI, reminiscent of the old Clash of the Titans (not the latest one) and 140million isn’t really that much to spend on a CGI film these days it will make its money back and then some from the international market and TV / DVD sales. I don’t get the white wash criticism though, they aren’t supposed to be Egyptian they are Gods not Pharaohs, though I think the human hero stealing the eye and his girlfriend could have easily mixed the casting up a bit more.
