Goldie Hawn’s relationship advice to Kate Hudson, ‘be true to yourself’

When we were playing “What Will Kate Hudson Wear Next” I guessed she would wear a crop top and flirty skirt to her signing at The Grove. Nope, stylish black crepe top and black pants (and amazing shoes!) For her Woodland Hills appearance, Kate went with an animal print maxi dress and accessorized with her mother Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. I have to tell you up front, I have long harbored feelings for both Goldie and Kurt.

Kate is very close to her family, save for her biological father, and speaks about their connection frequently. Since Goldie and Kurt have enjoyed 33-years together, Kate rightfully listens to her mother when she offers advice on relationships:

When it comes to love, mother knows best. Especially when your mother is Goldie Hawn. And it seems Goldie has shared some of her relationship wisdom with daughter Kate Hudson.

The 36-year-old actress dished on how much she admires her mother’s 33-year relationship with Kurt Russell and took a moment to share the quintessential love advice her mother has given her.

“I think what they have, in terms of connection, is really rare and beautiful and something to strive for,” Hudson told ET at a event to promote her new book, “Pretty Happy.” “But it doesn’t come without its stuff, [as do] all relationships.”

Hudson says her mother has said the most important thing in a relationship is not to lose oneself. “Be true to yourself,” Hudson cited as the best advice her mother has given her. “When you’re connected intimately [with someone], it’s a huge time of growth.”

Despite their close bond, Hawn has spoken about the importance of giving one another space in a relationship.

“It’s also about not losing yourself in each other. Being together, two pillars holding up the house and the roof, and being different, not having to agree on everything,” Hawn said, in an interview.

Goldie has also said, “A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage. It’s about compatibility and communication. And you both need to want it to work.” My parents will celebrate their 55th anniversary this year. The Mister and I will celebrate 13 years marriage/19 years together come summer. I’m not an expert but I agree with all of this. I really appreciate the quote about connecting with someone being a good opportunity for growth. I did a huge amount of personal growth before I met The Mister and even more after. I know I could grow on my own but I have no problem admitting we’ve brought out the best in each other and I think our friends would agree.

Kate is thrilled her mom has signed on to her first movie in 14 years. Goldie will play Amy Schumer’s mother in a yet-untitled comedy due 2017. Goldie, who says she’s been eager to return to acting, hasn’t exactly been sitting by the phone. She’s built an amazing organization – The Hawn Foundation – that teaches practices to help children focus in school, reduce their stress and be more engaged in the classroom. Kurt has been cast as Chris Pratt’s father in the Guardian of the Galaxy sequel.

One of the oldest couples in Hollywood. Hope they last til the end of their lives.

  2. Birdie says:

I think they lasted that long because they were not exactly monogamous.

I actually like both of these outfits! And yes, shoes are fabulous.

So sick of these two parading as BFFs. Goldie accepted Kurt’s infidelity as a condition of their “relationship”. Great example for your daughter who goes though men like water. Kate publicly rants about how her father “abandoned” her as if she has been coached by “someone” and then raves about her “pa” who regularly cheated on her mother. But the topper? When Kate was nominated for an oscar for “Almost Famous”, Goldie publicly said she hoped she would lose – “because she was so young”. Kate run away and clear your head — there is still time.

There is something about Goldie and Kate that I find unlikeable, but I can’t put my finger on it.
I really enjoy your posts Hecate, it would be great to see more.

I find Kate vapid and self-absorbed. I think Goldie is more original. Kate has been riding her mom’s coat-tails for years.
