Sandra Bullock isn’t sure if she’ll have babies

Sandra Bullock, 44, is gearing up for her promotional tour of that horrible-looking romantic-comedy The Proposal, costarring Ryan Reynolds. The Proposal is out in June, so obviously Sandra is the June cover girl for Harper’s Bazaar (story via US Weekly). The cover is actually lovely – Sandra looks about fifteen years younger, and her hair is styled beautifully.

The interview is pretty much the same interview Sandra has given for the past three years. A little about how surprised she is to find herself settled down with husband Jesse James, stuff about how she’s not sure if she’ll ever have children, blah, blah. She doesn’t talk about her stepchildren (Jesse has two daughters and a son from previous relationships), which I totally understand. But still, I feel like I’ve read this stuff a million times from her. I think that Sandra is trying to be boring, a.k.a. “pull a Jennifer Garner”. Like, Sandra doesn’t want publicity for anything other her films, so when she has to put herself out there on promotional duties, she just says the same stuff over and over:

Sandra Bullock isn’t sure she and husband Jesse James will have kids.

“You don’t have to give birth to someone to have a family. I’m not going to spend two seconds of my life wishing I had something I don’t,” The Proposal (out June 19) actress, 44, tells the June issue of Harper’s Bazaar.

“It’s hard to do it your way when you hear everyone else telling you to do it their way,” she continues. “I just want people to admit that there’s no one way to live your life.

But that doesn’t mean she won’t change her mind later.

“Of course, I don’t know what’s going to happen,” she says.

Bullock married James, the CEO of West Coast Choppers and host of Motorcycle Mania, in July 2005. She’s had to adjust to letting him take care of her.

“I’ve had to learn a hard lesson in that I’m not allowed to open car doors anymore,” she says. “It was so hard for me to allow someone to take care of me. It’s not because I can’t take care of myself. But Jesse was like, ‘Just let me do this.'”

Ever since entering her 40s, she’s let go of a lot of hangups.

“I didn’t have a teenage or early-20s experience that was free and without worry. I missed the screw-everything, have-a-good-time phase,” she says. “I was worried that if I didn’t stay on track and work, work, work, I was never going to accomplish anything.

“Now I’m trying to have fun and have the freedom to do nothing,” she goes on.

[From US Weekly]

I used to be a huge Sandra Bullock fan, back in the day. She just seemed so funny and real, truly like someone who could be your funny, crazy neighbor. Not so much any more, at least to me. Part of it is probably that Sandra has grown up a lot over the past few years, after losing her mother and marrying Jesse James. I totally understand that – she’s not so “girlish” any more, she’s a woman. But why is this new Sandra Bullock still making the same crappy romantic comedies? And don’t say that she’s an actress and she’s just going where the work is… Sandra is a powerful producer who can greenlight a film. She can pick and choose her projects, and it just seems like she’s chosen to do the same old crap that got me disliking her in the first place.

Here’s Sandra filming ‘The Proposal’ in New York City on June 6th. Images thanks to WENN.com .

I’d sign up for 9 months of ryan’s abs no matter the project. lol (didn’t she already make this movie w/ hugh grant?)

“James, the CEO of West Coast Choppers and host of Motorcycle Mania,”

oh that made me laugh, sure he is but who would use this to describe Jesse James

  2. Sauronsarmy says:

Uh-oh I can’t wait to here from women that think we are only here to breed have to say about this.

  3. neelyo says:

I’ve never liked her as an actress but I do respect her. Mainly because of the beatdown she gave a reporter who asked her about her childless state a few years back. She basically told them that the question was rude and insensitive. I couldn’t agree more.

I hate hearing Mary Hart or her equivalent having ‘girl talk’ and asking female celebrities when they’re going to reproduce. And this starts when they’re in their early 20s. It’s their womb, their business, no one else’s, least of all the media. I’d be much more interested in hearing why some of them make such idiotic career choices.

‘Sandra, you’ve been making essentially the same film for the last ten years. Besides huge paychecks, what other fulfillment do you get from these roles?’

  4. kap says:

Think it’s refreshing that she admits to not wanting children (if that’s actually what she was saying). At least she wasn’t out there talking about how much she wanted kids without any real intention of having them, just to keep a fanbase (not mentioning any names!). Saw the trailer for this film and unfortunately it doesn’t look too good, but I’ve never been a romcom fan.

Frankly, I like it when I don’t know too much about a star’s personal life. I know, it’s ironic when I’m posting this on a site like Celebitchy, but it’s true.

Agreed on the pondering over her choice in roles when she is a great producer. Possibly the roles are fun and lucrative and that is enough? I think the same for Jennifer Aniston. She is a capable of indie picks (the good girl) and offbeat humor (the breakup) but often repeats roles. They both have enough power and money to different things but don’t.

  7. KansasRefugee says:

I think it’s great that someone who maybe doesn’t want children is honest about it. I am appalled when women (and men) have children without taking more seriously what the children are going to need, the work the parents are going to need to do (provide, nurture, etc.) and what an important commitment it is. For some reason, no one talks about this aspect of it and as a result I think a lot of children are born to unprepared parents and the parents use the children for their needs and/or neglect and abandon them.

I’d love to reduce the amount of narcissism in our society and one way to do that is to support people taking these decisions more seriously.

PS- I like her purse. Where’d she get it? 🙂

  8. KLaw says:

The purse says Prada on it.

I love Sandra, she’s funny, down-to-earth, and has a good head on her shoulders. How many actresses can say that?!

  9. truth-SF says:

I agree KLaw, Sandra was one of the few actresses I appreciated. I love that she’s real and doesn’t hide her words in fear of losing fans. Plus she’s what, 44? If I was her age and I didn’t have a kid yet, I damn sure wouldn’t start trying for one. It’s not a crime for women if they don’t want children, but those actresses who feels that way but say otherwise, should just be honest with themselves and their fans. And their fans should respect their descision.

p.s. if I were Sandra, I would totally take every opportunity to feel up on Rayan’s abs while making that movie with him. It’s such a waste if she didn’t.

  10. Wif says:

Call me crazy, but I consider step-children to be, you know, family. If she already has 3 from her partners previous relationships, isn’t that enough?

  11. Wif says:

I just watched the trailer, I think it looks fun.

  12. someone says:

Im a Sandra fan, love her movies..I totally agree with her..shes happy with the life she has….good for her.

  13. PJ says:

What’s so bad about romcoms? Some actors & actresses have spent their entire careers doing them (Hugh Grant, JA).

Wonder why Hollywood thinks that comedies are somehow “easier” to do than dramas? Have they ever awarded an Oscar to an actress in a comedy role?

  14. PJ says:

I am glad Sandra Bullock is honest about not having babies. I’m tired of hearing actresses say how much they all “long for a baby.”

At her age it’s very unlikely she’d be able to have a biological child herself.

  15. dubdub2000 says:

ok, so to me Sandra rules.

She’s a real woman, not one of those “damezelle in distress” types, she lives her life the way she wants to live it without being preachy about it or apologetic either, so good for her.

Plus I love her rom coms. She’s the best at them hands down, (and to me she’s really crap in dramatics roles) so why bother doing anything else.

As mentioned she’s a producer more than anything else these days and seems to be taking the michael douglas route ie acting from time to time only when she really wants to and pretty much always in the same role, but as mentioned: she’s so darn good in that particular role! I saw the trailer for her new movie , it looks like a fun slice of silliness and I dont know about you but these days I’m not looking for a movie to bring me down or make me ponder the meaning of life or what have you. I just want to be entertained and if I can get a few laughs also thats just great.

  16. Isobel says:

I love that she hasn’t got on board the baby train al of these celebrities are mindlessly riding for the publicity. She isn’t going to Africa to adopt a child there, she isn’t desperately stuffing herself with IVF’d eggs.

Instead, she’s doing the work she wants to do and living her life. Excellent.

Can’t wait until the creepy baby-obsessed Hollywood phase is over; it’s so very very boring–like hearing people talk about buying real estate. Interesting to them, incredibly dull for the rest of us on the planet.

  17. Jess says:

PJ- she did “28 Days”. That was a drama. And very good!!

  18. CB Rawks says:

“It’s hard to do it your way when you hear everyone else telling you to do it their way,” she continues. “I just want people to admit that there’s no one way to live your life.”

    Absolutely awesome!
I want to carve that in stone and then smack my family over the head with it.
I knew I loved Sandra for lots of reasons, and there’s another one.

  19. barneslr says:

I disagree with that article. “The Proposal” looks hilarious! I rarely like the rom-com’s, but this one actually looks funny.

And there’s nothing wrong with not having children. If there were, I guess I’d be a sad case. I have wonderful, loving relationships with my nieces and nephews, and that’s enough for me.

  20. Hieronymus Grexx says:

Good, too many idiot celebs who can barely take care of themselves out there rutting anyway.

  21. waldemar says:

    God. she looks stunning!

And good for her. Three stepchildren are enough to take care for and 44 is not a save age to have children, I think.

  22. lola lola says:

She seems like such a nice person but God, girl, FIRE YOUR AGENT!!! What has happened to her career? She has squandered any good will and faith in her talent resurrected by the movie Crash. She needs to stop working until she finds a good script. Her movies are formula drivel. Time to make something decent & not cliche ridden!

  23. The Wrestler says:

I love Sandra for being so honest, straightforward and doing things her way. Go girl!
