Man, this is really sad news. Olivia Newton-John famously survived breast cancer in 1992 and has remained committed to cancer research and education. She founded the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre not only for those with cancer to explore their best treatment options but to provide emotional support and counseling. Unfortunately, Olivia’s cancer is back. She will have to cancel her current tour to deal with the treatment. She postponed her tour earlier due to severe back pain that she suspected might be her sciatica. Unfortunately, it turned out to be cancer that had spread and metastasized to the sacrum. On Tuesday, she posted this to Facebook:

OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN POSTPONES JUNE CONCERT DATES

May 30, 2017 – Las Vegas, NV — Olivia Newton-John is reluctantly postponing her June U.S. and Canadian concert tour dates. The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum.

In addition to natural wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.

“I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” says Olivia Newton-John.

There will be no interview requests accepted at this time as Olivia’s focus is on her treatment and healing. Ticket buyers for the upcoming concerts should contact venues directly about refunds. Rescheduled concert dates will be posted at OliviaNewton-John.com in the coming weeks.

The tour that Olivia is postponing is for her LIV ON album. LIV ON is a collection of songs to inspire cancer patients. The songs are, “for anyone facing a time of challenge in their life, whether it is grieving a loss or on the journey to health and recovery.” It is not only inspired by her own cancer struggle but from having lost her sister in 2013 to brain cancer and her father to cancer in 1992, the same weekend she was diagnosed with breast cancer the first time. That poor family.

A source confirmed to People that Olivia plans to be back out in tour in August and that everyone is very positive. I’m sure the course of treatment she’s chosen was heavily considered and is the best one for her. As for her beating this, if her camp says she will, I’m willing to latch on to that.

Early in May, Olivia’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi posted to her (now private) Instagram, “I love u mama … Will all of u send healing prayers for my mamas back please. I believe in the power of positive thinking and energy. Love u all.” Obviously, they still thought Olivia’s sciatica was acting up at that time. I don’t know if positive thinking always works but I do know in many cases it is all I can do for someone, especially someone I like but have never met. So I’m thinking many positive thoughts and wish Olivia a safe a quick recovery.

This is really discouraging news for poor Olivia. I hope she once again beats breast cancer. I do wonder why she did not get a double mastectomy back in 1992, did she? I am too lazy to google her.

    • phaedra says:

She might’ve. Back then it was standard to take both breasts. But even with a double mastectomy, it can come back. I would know. It did for me. But I’m OK! And I pray Olivia will be as well.

      • Menutia says:

My mom at 41 got a double mastectomy, hysterectomy, radiation and chemo. It still came back as stage 4. There is no magic bullet.

I hope her treatments go well and that she makes a full recovery! ❤️🤞

  5. Esmom says:

Yikes, sad news indeed. You’d think after 25 years you would be in the clear from a recurrence but apparently not. So sad. Cancer is such a bi%ch. Wishing her positive thoughts for strength and healing.

As a long-time survivor myself, this was awful news to hear. That’s the fear. The nagging pain that you hope to god is something else, but turns out to be Stage 4. I’ll be anxiously hoping to hear how she does and what kind of treatments she uses. Always such a hopeful inspiration, I wish her the best.

    • Esmom says:

Oh goodness, I can’t imagine. Hugs to you.

      • GingerCrunch says:

Thanks, Esmom. 🙂 Sometimes you feel like a warrior, but sometimes you just worry.

    • Menutia says:

Love to you, GC. As the then-daughter of a cancer survivor and now as she is stage 4, I am also constantly afraid in the back of my mind that cancer is lurking in me- I was back then when we thought she beat it and now as it is back. What I’m saying is, cancer is so scary, Even for those who haven’t had it. I will pray yours stays away ❤

      • GingerCrunch says:

Thanks, Menutia! It’s weird, cos the longer you’re cancer-free, you wanna feel good, but like you say, in the back of your mind…Big hugs to you and your mom! I hope she has lots of healthy years to come!!!!
