Presenter Zendaya was there to introduce the performance of “This is Me,” which was the only nomination for her film The Greatest Showman. Hugh Jackman, who hosted the Oscars in 2009 (my favorite Oscar ceremony by far), wasn’t even there and was surely disappointed that his passion project wasn’t recognized by the Academy. Zendaya was in burgundy Giambattista Valli, in a gown that had one ruffled off the shoulder sheer sleeve. They gushed during E!’s Red Carpet Roundup panel about Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roche, and how he doesn’t do her wrong, but this dress is not that great. It just has that one feature, weird sleeves are a bad trend at the moment, and the color is off somehow. I guess this is a decent enough presenting gown and maybe Zendaya wanted to look unique without stealing focus.
Gina Rodriguez was in a deep v-neck pale peach Zuhair Murad gown with a scattered sequin pattern, a braided metallic belt and a dramatic sheer skirt with folded sides. This was gorgeous and I loved the way it moved on stage. It was like the center was independent of the sides. She presented Best Visual Effects with Tom Holland, they were so cute together and was enthusiastic. I’m a fan.
Eiza Gonzalez, whom I only know from Baby Driver and the fact that her burgeoning relationship with Josh Duhamel was publicized almost immediately, was a standout in this canary yellow Ralph Lauren column gown with cutouts. She wants to get noticed and she was. She looked flawless on camera. Eiza presented Sound Editing and Mixing along with her costar, Ansel Elgort. I know a lot of you were side eyeing that but did you see Baby Driver? It was all about music and it was so enjoyable I saw it twice in theaters.
Leslie Bibb was there supporting her husband, Sam Rockwell, who won Best Supporting Actor for Three Billboards. She was one of the few women in black. I loved her gown, a v-neck J. Mendel with a wavy stripe pattern and sequin straps. This is both glamorous and understated.
Emily V. Gordon, who was nominated for Original Screenplay for co-writing The Big Sick with her husband, Kumail Nanjiani, was also in J. Mendel. I’m glad that Get Out won in that category, it should have won Best Picture too, but The Big Sick was a close second for me. Emily and Kumail did win in that category at The Independent Spirit Awards Saturday night. So many people at the Oscars talked about dreams and pursuing your goals and these two epitomize that to me. They took the tragic story of the beginning of their relationship, made it into a romantic comedy and were at the freaking Oscars together! Emily gets a pass on this dress. I’ll go harder on her next year.

Lesley and Eiza look good.
Zendaya looks both weird and boring, and Gina’s had nice fabric but it’s an ugly cut.
I find Gina’s enthusiasm annoying at times, but it was cute yesterday.
I actually like Emily’s bangs.
Agree on all accounts but Gina – I think her dress was stunning too.
A fun fact about Leslie – Sam also wore cuff links with her name on them. Super cute.
Zendaya looked great in this dress. It suited the job at hand which was presenter. This dress would look great on Jolie
Eliza’s dress is so tight that we’d all be able to watch the progress if she had a snack!
Leslie’s dress looks glorious.
Eiza Gonzalez gets a win for me-bright, beautiful colors were a rarity this year so I love that she came out in something bold. I envy her-I can’t wear yellow (or any citrus color, really). It makes me look like I have jaundice.
Everyone else bought into the boring color trend and Zendaya fell to the other bad trend -too much draping!!! She is drowning in that gown.
I love all these looks. Zendaya looked fabulous – especially when she walked.
I thought she looked great too! One of my favorite dresses of the night.
Zendaya looks gorgeous but it’s not a bold fashion statement. And I’m anyone else this would’ve been more standout but she’s much more risky than this. It’s a good look but she’s had better. And I think Hugh used up his good will on Les Mis.
I don’t know the girl in yellow but she looks nice.
Had no idea Leslie Bibb was married to Sam? But then again I barely know anything about Sam. Leslie looks great.
Emily looks okay but I hate the neckline on the dress. A different one would’ve looked better. Love them though
I think Law Roach is amazing at putting together more casual looks and high fashion editorial looks, but whenever one of his clients is on a major awards show red carpet he chooses something both boring and off-kilter for them. It’s like he’s afraid of going too far at these events, but also resistant to just choosing a nice simple gown, so everything’s just not quite right.
Zendaya looked amazing. I loved the whole look.
Zendaya’s dress looked brown to me and it just swallowed her up. She is so beautiful but that dress was fug.
You guys keep saying Leslie Bibb is Sam Rockwell’s wife. I’m pretty sure they aren’t married, but have been together for a long time.
That’s what I thought as well
Rodriguez and Gonzalez looked fabulous. I love bright yellow and she was wearing the hell out of it.
Not feeling Zendaya’s dress but she is such a beautiful young woman. She is really growing into her looks now.
STUNNING.
best of the night for me.
Just glad Gina’s boobs weren’t suffocated like her last major awards show dress (the red one) but really wish she would go for a different look. She is small busted but these open front looks are getting stale. Zendayas is a big no…such a missed opportunity as she is lovely. Loved the yellow dress but seemed like the wrong event to wear it.
I love Zendaya’s dress. I love her whole look — Jewelry, hair, makeup and all.
Giambattista Valli is one of my favorite designers.
Gina seems to wear the exact same cut- the deep plunging neck line. It just seems like I always say i have seen this before on her. Even the hair…it always seems the same.
Did Eiza’s gorgeous yellow dress remind anyone of Jennifer Lawrence’s first Oscars red dress? Both these dresses were standouts for their cut and lines in either year.
Zendaya,what a beauty.
This dress doesn’t look burgundy to me but Zendaya looks pretty, even though it’s not one of her bolder choices. Eiza Gonzalez is beautiful- she looks like a cross between Priyanka Chopra and Leighton Meester.
Outstanding dress on Zendaya. The colour tips it over the edge (in a good way) – unique and unexpected. She is so darn cute…and super cool. That combination is not easy to find.
[*Zendaya rocks.*]
Here big time for Miss Zendaya. She isn’t at all afraid to take a risk, and this dress is a boho riche dream. I’m imagining it alternatively as a knockout wedding dress in white or blush.
I love, love, love Zendaya’s look. Absolute perfection. And while Gina looks gorgeous, she is in a style rut – this is basically how I think of her at every award show. And while I love the bright yellow dress on Eiza, I don’t like the cut – seems too casual for the Oscars. That cut should have been at the Indep Spirit Awards the night before.
Love Zendaya. Cannot get over the massive plastic surgery Eiza Gonzalez has had. I thought Baby Driver absolutely sucked.
