Sonequa Martin-Green’s husband loves embarrassing her in public by being loud

I know Sonequa Martin-Green as Sasha on The Walking Dead. She’s the lead on Star Trek: Discovery, the second season of which launches on CBS: All Access today. She was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week. I haven’t seen an interview with her before and she was fun and charming. She was wearing a loose white pantsuit that was amazing, I covet that. Sonequa was recently given a day in her honor in Russellville, Alabama. She got all embarrassed when Colbert brought it up. She said that her uncle was behind it and that he was talking her up around town. Colbert asked her what law she would pass on her day and she said this.

I would outlaw my husband, Henry Green, embarrassing me in public.

He does do that often.

Oh man, he has fun with it. If we’re at a restaurant and I go to use the restroom and I come back, he loves to yell ‘Hey Sonequa, over here!’ *waves hand*

We were in Starbucks in LA around Christmastime and we’re walking out and he just turns around and yells ‘Happy Holidays everyone!’ And of course crickets.

People just looked and I was like ‘Oh my gosh.”

I dated a guy like this once. He made me cringe in public often, but he was also so much of an extrovert, and was so good at meeting people, that it was an adventure wherever we went. I’m in between extrovert and introvert and it depended on my mood whether I found it annoying. It sounds like Sonequa is the same. She said all this with a lot of affection so I doubt their relationship is in trouble, she just wishes he would tone it down.

She also talked about Ethan Peck’s weird Spock beard. (I can’t believe that guy isn’t Zachary Quinto, he looks almost exactly like him!) She said that because their show falls earlier in the timeline, like 10 years before the original series, that there’s time for him to shave.

Here’s the video of her interview!

Lol, I am the husband, I do that to people too, sometimes on purpose, but most of the times it’s just saying or doing the first thing that plops into my mind. đŸ˜‚ Also Sonequa is a gorgeous woman and I’m excited for the new season.

She is such a beauty and was underutilized, like many actors, on The Walking Dead.

To be fair, I think MOST characters/actors on TWD are under-utilized. That show is so bogged down there’s no room for growth. I stopped watching at the end of last season and haven’t touched the new season. I was devoted for years. I’m done.

      • launicaangelina says:

I 100% agree with you. TWD universe just grew way too large, leaving many of the best characters/actors with minimal screen time. I watched through this past December, but it’s turned more into background filler noise. It started off amazing – the pilot episode is one of my favorite episodes of TV ever – but it’s just such a bogged-down depressing mess. The Negan plot was toooooo long, and I like JDM. The seasons are too long as well. This type of show only needs 10-12 episodes a season.

Agreed. Though I feel like Sasha got an extra raw deal on that show. I stopped watching after last season when they killed off Carl. I was done after that. That show has completely jumped the shark and I feel like even the actors still on it feel this way. The guy who ran the show into the ground got to skip off into the sunset and now the new show runner has to try to right the ship.

You’re right about her been under utilised. Although I stopped watching midway season 7. That show has pretty much sucked after The Governor’s plot ended.

I’m glad you’re covering Sonequa CB. I love her and wish her more success. She’s so gorgeous!

      • Pandy says:

I watched Rick go … then just couldn’t with the kid. And I was an OBSESSED watcher all these years … until Negan. Just too much and for too long. Now they pile up in my PVR and I just periodically delete them. I can’t believe I’m not still watching it but I had to give up.

Sonequa is beautiful and that multi colored evening dress she is wearing is FANTASTIC!!! Wow.

@launicaangelina So tell me: IS NEGAN DEAD YET? That character and that whole story arch is a huge reason I stopped watching. That character never should have lasted this many seasons. Should have been a one-season plot arch. Another reason I stopped was the bogged down mess of it, as I mentioned. But I’d also been more and more fed up and impatient with Andrew Lincoln’s horrible southern accent and really lousy performance as a major character who is in 90% of scenes.

I’m currently rocking the hairstyle she has in the bottom pic…and I am LOVING IT!!! And I ADORE HER!

    • Goldengirlslover34 says:

I love it! I have a pixie cut that I have rocking for a couple of years now (which I love!) but this is the hair style that I am considering when I grow my hair out and go natural. I looks fun and sexy and rocker chic all at once!

    • Linda says:

      @Lala11_7
I am sure you look marvelous with the hairstyle.

  4. leela says:

    she is so beautiful!

  5. deezee says:

That show is great. She looks a lot like Samira Wiley in these photos.

Also wasn’t Kate Mulgrew the first to lead with Star Trek: Voyager?

  6. YesImHere says:

I love her. She has the most serene, thoughtful face, and the most warm, gentle eyes. I find her so captivating onscreen. Her character’s death on TWD was phenomenal. It just tore me up.

  7. Angel says:

I went to one of those TWD conventions with my sister about 5 years ago. It was completely uncomfortable for me because it felt like the actors HATED it and were being pimped out. The clear highlight, however, was that Sonequa was the most gracious and lovely human. She exudes kindness.

  8. Avery says:

I absolutely love her! I am so happy for her and the path her career has taken. Her and husband seem to genuinely love each other and their not pimping out their kid mag covers. She seems like a girlfriend I would love to have.

  9. Grant says:

    She is stunningly beautiful!

  10. hkk says:

Thanks for covering her, wouldn’t have heard about her otherwise, I don’t watch much tv these days. She’s captivating! And they sound like an adorable couple.

  11. Christy J says:

Really love the magenta, pink, and red evening gown in that pic. She’s beautiful.

  12. meh says:

She is GORGEOUS. She looks like a doe.

  13. Themummy says:

I’ve never seen her in an interview before. And she is completely adorable! I love her personality.

  14. DesertReal says:

I am so glad Discovery got a second season! The first one was so good and she is fantastic in it.

  15. Mash says:

im so glad she getting her clout…. she literally inspired me to go natural….like thinking about the end of the world and just being a tough black woman and feminine i was like i wanna be and look like Sasha…kid you not <3 her

  16. ChamomileLawn says:

Sonequa has some serious acting chops.
ITA that seeing her character developement would have been so much compelling in TWD than all the repetitive Negan stuff.
