This reminds me of a story I just covered on Beth Ostrosky, Howard Stern’s wife, going bed at 8 and waking up at 4 so that she can have the same schedule as Howard. In that story I mentioned my early schedule and how I love to wake up at the crack. Melissa was on Ellen, I covered her joint interview with co-star Richard E Grant here, and they talked about how Melissa learned she’d been nominated for an Academy Award. Melissa said she usually wakes up around 4:30 or 5 but on Oscar nomination day she slept in.
Like the old man that I am I’m up at 5, 4:45, 4:30 if I really want to be honest. For some reason it was 5:30, I was sound asleep which is already like ‘what’s happening’ and the phone rang and I’m like ‘is that the alarm.’
I answered is it like ‘is that the code for my parent’s house?’
I don’t know what happened I went into some vortex and woke up thinking my parents’ house alarm had gone off. When I realized what he was saying I was like ‘I don’t think that’s right.’
[From Ellen]
Unlike Gaga’s story of sleeping through the Oscar nominations I believe her. Her performance was so deserving, but I don’t think she expected to be nominated. I also usually wake up before 5 but sometimes on the weekends I’ll sleep until 5:30. This was a weekday though! Melissa cracked me up a few times in this interview when she was talking about her daughters, Georgie, 8, Vivian, 11. Her daughter Georgie is playing basketball and she’s become a sports mom yelling during games. She said “I’m yelling at an eight-year-old. I’ve got to walk it out.” Ellen told her she needed to do a movie about that and I agree.
Here’s the interview:

Usually, I dislike both Melissa and basketball… But this interview is really awesome!
She already kind of has done an angry basketball thing; when she first hosted SNL, she played an unhinged college basketball coach named Sheila Kelly (it was during the real-life Rutgers scandal). I’d love to see an expanded take on that character, because the Sheila Kelly sketches are some of my all-time favorites.

She looks fab in that black dress with the red lip, but I hate the slicked back center part hair.
I don’t get the waking up that early. She gets pleasure in waking up at 4:30 but tells people 5:00 so it doesn’t sound as crazy? Does she fall asleep at the dinner table?
She’s a busy Mama so yes I believe that she usually wakes up around 5am and I also believe she unexpectedly slept in. I love it when that happens. Congrats to her!
I just love her. And Richard E. Grant. I haven’t seen this film yet, but it’s on my list!
I fell in love with Richard E. Grant when I watched “Withnail and I.” If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend it highly.
I love Melissa. She just comes across as someone I’d love to have coffee with.
Also, I am trying to wake up earlier and it’s starting to become a habit. I’m just more productive when I have an early start.
I need a LOT of sleep in my life. And the more I sleep the more I want. During weekends I can sleep till 12 if they let me. My friends know that I am not human before 10 a.m on weekdays. I have to get up early for work but I don’t like it and I let people know. I just don’t understand this early raising thing. 4.30??? Only IF I have to travel somewhere and even then my body moves not my mind
I adore Melissa. She cracks me up and seems like such a good time.
