I think Taron Egerton is so charming and talented (but didn’t know he could sing as well!?)
I really hope this is good!

    • Mel M says:

My kids were obsessed with “Sing” for months and that’s when I learned he has a good voice.

Also, Cannot wait to see this. I mean is there a bad Elton John song??

    • Jan90067 says:

I saw a long trailer and interview on the news yesterday, and it looks amazing. Can’t wait for this inMay!

    • SK says:

Apparently he is absolutely fabulous in this role and Elton loves the way he has interpreted the songs and said no one else could sing them as well.

The shame of it is, it is probably a better performance than Rami as Freddie – especially as he sings for real – but Rami is likely to get the Oscar this year so there’s no chance Taron will get it next year when he will likely deserve it more.

  2. Mia4s says:

Rocketman looks really good! And it’s not directed by an (alleged) child rapist! Two for two over that Bohemian Rhapsody trash!

Hemsworth as Hulk Hogan…..OK? And it’s another Netflix production. Seriously, everything is going to Netflix these days. The war between them and Disney + is going to be GREAT for content…and not so great for movie theatres.

    • S says:

Bohemian Rhapsody is not trash. That movie is more than the director.
      Did you even see it?

      • Wilady says:

Yeah one toxic POS shouldn’t discredit the other talented people who also worked hard on a project. It’s just not fair or right. Things are complicated yes, but that’s not where we should be going.

      • Steff says:

It wasn’t the best movie ever though and certainly not worth the hype, in my opinion. People are pissed at the inaccurate portrayals of events and people.

      • Tanguerita says:

I saw it and it’s a sterilized, castrated version of Freddie and his life, just the way Brian May has always liked it. It’s a pleasing vanilla biopic with horrid dialogue and Rami Malek basically karaoke-ing his way through the shitty script. And see, I haven’t mentioned Singer ONCE.

      • Mia4s says:

Yes @S I finally managed to see it without paying a penny (only way I was going to). And it was trash. A poorly edited, above average Saturday Night Live sketch that seemed oddly ashamed that it’s main character was homosexual. Absolute trash. Oh it will get a Best Actor Oscar though, because that’s a good story and because the campaign was thorough…the only thing that matters to win an Oscar.

I will admit the last scene at Live Aid was good (if complete oversimplified hogwash as far as what actually happened)….but you can see the real Freddie in action doing that on YouTube anytime you want (instead of watching a pair of false teeth lip synching). I’m so sorry that Freddie’s legacy is coloured by this mediocre film directed by a child rapist (alleged). A real shame.

      • sunshine gold says:

        I liked it.

      • I Didn't Do It says:

A movie is made up of many, many pieces and players who give so much to their part of the whole process. IMO I can’t fault a whole production because of one jerk. I liked the movie and am thrilled there are new Queen fans. One jerk didn’t spoil a whole movie for me. I always read all the credits and there were tons of people employed by that production. I’m happy that they got to use their talents.

    • FilmTurtle says:

Bad news for theatre chains, but, honestly I don’t know ANYONE who regularly goes out to the movies anymore. The sole exceptions are arthouse junkies and people who go see the E-ticket animated/superhero stuff.

      • Dee Kay says:

Hmmm…I find your comment strangely accurate as a description of me. I am an arthouse junkie and I go to see all the animated/superhero stuff. My husband and I go to the movies *all the time.* We also have a fancy theater that serves food and drinks (including booze) to you in your fancy pre-reserved seats, so there’s that. I’m actually spending a fortune going to see movies these days!!

  3. Eden75 says:

I cannot wait to see Rocketman! So so so excited!

I got to take my daughter to see Elton John and it was by far one of the best concerts I have been to so far.

    Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Lady2Lazy says:

As a teenager from his era that could sing along with him, I am dying to see this!! I wish I could have seen him in concert, but my friends were more into rock than his type of music. I am thrilled that they are bringing him to the screen. He deserves to be praised for his brilliance!!

      • BeanieBean says:

The soundtrack to my teen years contains mostly Elton John. And I got to see him in concert twice! I am definitely going to the theatre for this one.

    • another kate says:

Elton John is a must-see concert for anyone who hasn’t been. I wasn’t even born in the 70s but I’ve been to several of his concerts in the last decade and he’s the most talented musician I’ve ever seen live. At the last one I went to he sang/played the piano for 3+ hours straight even when the band took a break – you get your money’s worth at his concerts! And he plays all his old hits unlike some performers who only want to play their new stuff.

  4. Steff says:

Chris Hemsworth is not a good actor.

    • Amy Tennant says:

He’s a good comedic actor. A companion piece to GLOW about wrestling in the 80s would be all right, but not with Hogan as the centerpiece. He’s not sympathetic.

    • SK says:

He was perfect in Rush. That movie made me realise that he could act. He’s not the best but he has charisma and charm for sure. He also has good comedic chops.

  5. Marty says:

You think they’ll give Chris Hemsworth an Oscar nomination if he says the n-word like the real Hogan?

    • Steff says:

I’m cringing just imagining where they will take this movie. There’s also 983948 wrestlers I could name that would be better subjects for a movie than Hulk Hogan. Ugh.

      • delphi says:

Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair (not to discount the awesome documentary about him that ESPN produced), the ENTIRE Hart family…hell, can you imagine how intense and fascinating a movie about Bruiser Brody would be?

Not to mention women like Mae Young, Miss Elizabeth, Chyna, Beth Phoenix…the list goes on and on.

Sorry, I’m an 80s baby and still have major wrestling nostalgia.

      • Amy Tennant says:

There have been amazing documentaries about them, but throw in Andre the Giant (but impossible to cast maybe), and the Iron Sheik. Incredible!

My favorites are Dusty and Ric and Randy Savage and my all-time favorite Rowdy Roddy Piper.

  6. Amy Tennant says:

Regarding the Abe Lincoln statue: my late husband was a tall, lanky man from Illinois. Yes, I would.

    • Mia4s says:

LMAO! Amazing comment. There’s a conversation starter: top 3 historical figures that I totally would. 😁

I’ve heard young George Washington was quite a looker, and a good dancer. 😉

  7. S says:

Um, it wasn’t a Freddie Mercury documentary. It was a homage to the music.

  8. Tiffany says:

So Jamie Bell is playing Bernie Taupin. I mean…okay? I guess I can see it.

  9. KidV says:

Elton John loves to throw around the c*nt word to female paparazzi. I canceled him him awhile back. I remember Crocodile Rock when I was 10, 45 years ago. I’m ready for him to go away.

    • NeoCleo says:

I love Elton John, but Crocodile Rock can eff right off!

    • SK says:

See, I know a guy who was his PA whilst touring Australia and he LOVES him. He’s looked after loads of celebrities and politicians too but Elton was by far his fave. Said he’s a lovely guy who takes amazing care of his staff. Super generous. All of his staff is male but… eh. I don’t care. Elton gave this guy and his gf free VIP tix to his concert and sang happy bday to the gf on stage with the whole crowd. He gave the guy I know loads of freebies and gifts and a great reference plus an offer to work for him if he ever moved to the UK.

On the C-bomb. In the UK and Aus it is used a lot more casually and with less insult than in the US. Not a nice word (I mean, it can be used positively funnily enough, eg: “you’re a sick c*nt!” is actually a positive); but I’m not going to cancel him over it. Paps are cockroaches (I know one too – my friend’s twin is one). They know what they’re signing up for. They often yell out far worse to their targets to try and get a reaction out of them.

      • KidV says:

If he had called her a “f*cking a**hole” I wouldn’t have thought anything of it, she’s a pap, she probably is an a**hole, but he intentionally used a derogatory female word. I would have had the same reaction if he’d called her a bitch. She may not be a nice person but her being female had nothing to do with it. He’s always come across as misogynistic to me.

    • Here or there says:

It’s a cultural thing. To the Brits it isn’t as offensive. To American’s it’s the forbidden c-word, to the Brits, it’s just another equivalent for bugger, arsehole, etc.

  10. Harryg says:

Looks amazing! The first movie in ages I actually want to see!

  11. Lady2Lazy says:

The link for Dlisted on the Russian dog is adorable! But the little guy is limping…☹️ I hope someone takes care of him.

  12. cupcake says:

I can’t WAIT!!! it looks good to me. (hugs self) I am soo excited!
Thanks CB for keeping us ‘in the know’

  13. mycomment says:

I saw him in one of his first u.s. tours in Duluth Minnesota of all places. it was a glorious and insane concert and I remember the upper level rafter in the auditorium actually bouncing from all of the movement of the dancing, jumping crowd — and just waiting for it to collapse. and never so happy to be on the ground floor, even though I couldn’t see him because everyone else was taller and standing on their chairs…
    it’s awesome that he’s still standing….

  14. Anare says:

I have been a diehard Elton John fan since I was in 8th grade. Good God! That’s like 40 years ago. Lol! I will go see this movie. It looks great.

  15. Digital Unicorn says:

I’ve been reading elsewhere that this is far superior to Bohemian Rhapsody is almost every way.

Am just glad EJ didn’t get his way with his personal choice of actors as he allegedly wanted Justin Timberlake to play him.

BR could have been a great movie but Singer aside, the script was terrible and the plot pandered too much to May/Taylor’s ego’s and obsession with whitewashing the band and Freddie’s life.
