Amal Clooney in a crisp Zac Posen suit in New York: stunning or unflattering?

Bonafide style star Amal Clooney cuts sophisticated look as she steps out for a meeting in NYC

We used to get street-style photos of Amal Clooney with some regularity, but these days, we can go months without seeing her sometimes-wacky street style. I think it depends on where she is and whether she actually has any professional meetings on her schedule. She’s been in New York for several days, doing work at the United Nations, and she stepped out yesterday. She was probably between meetings, because this is a pretty professional look. To be clear, I’ve never had an issue with her professional attire – she has some great suits and she seems to favor pencil skirts and monochromatic looks for work. It’s her off-hours style that I think is wacky.

Apparently, yesterday’s white look was Zac Posen. I kind of dislike Posen’s designs – they’re overwrought and over-designed. I don’t like the fact that the dress seems weirdly baggy on Amal – she paid enough for it that it should fit her properly. But I like the idea of it – a smart, crisp white summer dress with a matching cropped suit jacket. It’s solid. She looks like she had a fresh blowout too. Oh, and one thing I will always love about Amal: she has great taste in purses. She carried a great purse yesterday.

Earlier this week, Amal spoke at the UN:

    She’s gorgeous.

  2. huckle says:

I think she looks terrific. The fit allows her to move. I love it.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Love it too! This is the best I have seen her look in ages.

I like it a lot with the jacket on. Don’t like the darting/seams esp. by the shoulders. Almost looked like it was an off the shoulders design, and last min. added that little piece of fabric to make it a cap sleeve.

Not an Amal fan at all, but I have serious hair envy though.

    • FHMom says:

It’s perfect. Yesterday was a beautiful day in NY, and she was dressed appropriately.

    • sequinedheart says:

+1 this dress is one of her best day time business looks but I could do with different colored accent pieces (bag and shoe color do nothing for this outfit)

She looks amazing. I am wondering in what world would this ever be considered “unflattering”?

  3. HK9 says:

I really like it. She looks sharp.

  4. Becks1 says:

I think she really looked great. Loved the whole look.

  5. Case says:

OMG beautiful. Her tailoring has been so lovely lately. Love this shade, too.

  6. Xo says:

Funny, every time I look at Amal CLOONEY, I’m reminded of what little tolerance George had for being laughed at by Tina & Amy for his choice of date.

Enter the human rights lawyer. Ha!

    She does look great.

  7. KidV says:

I love the dress. I think it fits fine, not too loose. Since she’s sitting for long periods of time, could be made that way for her. One thing I hate is something tight on my waist if I’m sitting. I need breathing room. And eating room.

  8. jules says:

I’m not really a fan of hers. She seems snotty and stuck up. But i do like this suit. I think she looks lovely.

  9. MissyLynne says:

Her makeup is always perfect. I want to know what lipstick she’s wearing.

  10. duchess of hazard says:

How the hell did George Clooney get HER?

    • a says:

They fell in love with each other and, most potently, the idea of each other.

He got real world clout (married to an up and coming human rights lawyer with ambitions, an eye on the top tier and working away from the frivolity of Hollywood) and she got her very own Wikipedia entry (established 2014 after they started dating), name recognition and bespoke haute couture. Win-win for both of them.

I like it, she looks great.

  12. BANANIE says:

I’ve never seen her look like anything except like she’s just had a fresh blowout.

And in honor of my beloved GFY- why the nude shoes? Why?? She could have gone for legit any pop of color.

  13. h3Rh1GHN3SS says:

she a bad bish. & I say this after watching her speak so eloquently and calmly on horrific acts. You go girl.

  14. cee says:

I dont find her face very attractive but her hair and the way she dresses make her attractive.

  15. Lennn says:

I love how she glams it up for work. Shows that you don’t have to tone it down just to be heard.

  16. vava says:

I think she’s great. Very intelligent, poised, great speaker, and I love her work wardrobe. The off duty outfits are always interesting, too – even though sometimes there’s something a little bit off about them.

Disappointed to see Spam ads on this website for the very first time after years and years of reading. Is there some way to block them?

  18. Lola Lola3 says:

Agreed that bag is fabulous. Anyone know who makes it?
(I’m sure I can buy it after I get that fabulous work at home 13 hours a week for $8000 job 😉

  19. Chagalatte says:

Even the biggest time female CEOs / high profile business women don’t do this kind of thing – an hour in hair and makeup before a pap appointment / pap walk to the car. I read a review of Amal Vogue appearance (her cover) and the pop culture writer was saying how she was in that Vogue feature completely unknowable as a real person and deliberately so – a product of (Clooney) PR. Strange public figure. Is this glamour really ultimately for human rights advocacy or for self-gratification? From her behaviour at showbiz events it’s likely just old fashioned thirst. Strange, strange woman.

    • Tina says:

She’s by all accounts a good lawyer, but she’s not big time in a legal sense. I’m sure she believes in her causes, but there is literally no reason to do hair/makeup/pap walk for what she does. It does not give her credibility.

      • SK says:

Perhaps she just likes being nicely dressed and having nice hair and makeup? It’s something she enjoys. And the point is women can choose to be glam or just professional or plainly dressed and all of those options are equally valid.

      • Chagalatte says:

Tina, great comment. SK, you can do that without calling the paps. In fact, it’s probably more satisfying if you’re not “performing,” but not for her apparently. Undeniable this was a pap appt.

    • Jessie says:

Who cares if she wants to do her job AND look pretty. They are not mutually exclusive

      • Cyclone says:

@Jessie, exactly, but as was pointed out above, she can do that without calling the paps. She’s not looking pretty for herself but very deliberately cultivating/chasing celebrity.

  20. Dark and Stormy says:

I didn’t read the whole article just wanted to answer the question: this outfit is stunning and looks amazing on her it’s one of the most flattering I’ve seen her wear.

  21. Interdimensional observer says:

Amal Clooney is attention seeker and full of herself. Clooney PR tries to sell her as the best lawyer ever, she was just a junior before she got famous by snatching a man. Not trying to diminish her or anyone with equal accomplishment, but it’s possible to find thousand woman’s like her or more accomplished in any average sized city, and it’s a bit offensive trying to portray Amal as better than any other hard working woman in the same field.

She has a great fashion taste though, but she doesn’t seem genuine and a the couple is a bit shady.

When I first read about her I was glad and found her to be a breath of fresh air, not a generic white plastified actress also she had a career in laws, But now she seems even more fame hungry than some celebrities. She is not relatable at all.
