The Duke & Duchess of Sussex released never-before-seen wedding photos

I watched Gayle King’s Harry and Meghan Plus One, which aired two days before The Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ one-year wedding anniversary. I enjoyed the special for many reasons, but I really loved the look back at their wedding, and getting to see all of that footage of Meghan in her Givenchy wedding gown and how crisp everything looked next to that pure white gown. It really was a beautiful wedding, I thought, made more so by the fact that Meghan was prenaturally calm, like she was just sitting there in the eye of the hurricane, enjoying the unfolding chaos. To celebrate their first wedding anniversary, the Sussexes (well, probably just Meghan) posted a short video to the SussexRoyal Instagram. The video includes never-before-seen photos from their wedding day, with this message:

Happy one year anniversary to Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex!

Today marks the one year anniversary of the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Their Royal Highnesses exchanged vows at St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19th, 2018.

The selected song “This Little Light of Mine” was chosen by the couple for their recessional. We hope you enjoy reliving this moment, and seeing some behind the scenes photos from this special day.

A message from The Duke & Duchess: Thank you for all of the love and support from so many of you around the world. Each of you made this day even more meaningful.

If you’re anything like me, you enjoyed this – a chance to look back on those wedding photos and see how Meghan’s gown really was great. I will stan this gown to my dying day! It was a great choice. I love that she didn’t look like a ball of lace, and I love that she didn’t look like a completely different person on her wedding day. I also loved her Stella McCartney halter gown for the reception too! Gah, this wedding was so much fun to cover.

      So beautiful.
Their wedding is my all time favorite. Everything about it was so touching and heartwarming.

    • BengalCat😻 says:

They really are. I am not a fan of the Royal Family, but these two tug at all my heartstrings.

  2. lana86 says:

On a shallow note, I like her both dresses but not her makeup here. Like, imo she looks prettier in almost any other occasion. It’s like her eyes look smaller here, donnow… of course she’s still gorgeous, but just maybe didn’t sleep well that night… I would imagine…

  3. Chelly says:

Idk. I found the gown boring

    • minx says:

      Yeah, same.

    • Carmen says:

Not me. I thought it was perfect. Chic, elegant, understated, sophisticated, timeless and classic. And if she has daughters and granddaughters she can pass it on to them because it will never go out of style.

      • Mogli says:

I thought that the gown was missing the special something for a royal wedding

  4. Croatian says:

    You know.
I really disliked the gown last year.
But this year – I absolutely LOVE it. I love it.

  5. Lulu says:

Still think the dress is fugly BUT. It made for a nice visual with the overall theme and I can see how her choices were metaphorical.

  6. Lenn says:

I found the gown underwhelming and illfitting at the time….but now..I love it! The simplicity of it. The fit doesn’t even bother me anymore, it just looks relaxed and effortless.

  7. Kittycat says:

I loved the Instagram slideshow video.

A lot of things good and bad happened for me personally in the past year.

So to remember what a lovely day the wedding was is a pleasure.

  8. Happy anniversary the Duc and Duchesse Of Sussex

  9. aquarius64 says:

I love the gown because she didn’t look like a Disney princess. I think Meghan went for simplicity because this is her second marriage.

    Happy anniversary Harry and Meghan🌹💝

  10. Casey20 says:

Just a reminder to everyone how it’s done! Say what you must but her Wedding, compared to other Royals including Kate’s, will stand the test of time. Why, because of its simplicity of elegance. Nothing was overdone!

    • Alexandria says:

I was ready to dismiss it as any other royal wedding until I saw it. I just cannot forget the look on Harry’s face and that song when Meghan walked down the aisle. I still tear up when I watch it now. I did not fancy the dress and then it grew on me more. Recently I found out the dress is very similar to Princess Angela of Liechtenstein’s dress so that was a bit disappointing. Nonetheless it was a beautiful and wonderful wedding. Happy anniversary Duke and Duchess of Sussex but most importantly I wish a lifetime of love that is more beautiful than any wedding. She is so beautiful!

    • RedWeatherTiger says:

Agree! I thought the dress was a big yawn, but she understood it wasn’t about just that day but about the photos that will be viewed years on. She’s smarter than I am…at least in terms of duchessy stuff.

Now that reception dress was hot. With the big aquamarine ring…just to die for.

  11. starryfish29 says:

I loved the dress then and I still love it. It echoed my favorite movie wedding of all time, that veil served some serious Maria Von Trapp realness.

  12. Erinn says:

I think the gown is fine but I still think the fabric choice wasn’t ideal. The silhouette was lovely but I still think if it were me I’d have done some MINOR tweaks but I think most of it would have been solved by using a somewhat different fabric. It seemed to almost fight the silhouette in a way – it seemed somehow bulkier than it should have been? I don’t know. But I really loved the style of the second dress but would probably have added something really subtle to it. Some kind of shine or barely there beading maybe. But in a way that it would have only been noticeable if it caught the light JUST right.

Both dresses are WAY better than the one from Lady Windsor yesterday. I really hated her gown. It seemed dated and quilted.

    • minx says:

Agree, a different fabric might have been better (and better fitting around the bust). The style was lovely, though, and she looked beautiful.

  13. RoyalBlue says:

Best royal wedding ever! Loved the dresses and the soulful ceremony.

    • Mego says:

Yes my favourite too for various reasons. The chemistry between the couple was very moving. The Kingdom Choir, the American bishop and the cellist, the magnificent solo as Meghan walked down the aisle. The orchestra and the beautiful baroque music. The enthusiastic crowds. It was such a beautiful sunny day too. Sigh ☺️

  14. DaggerIsle says:

Still think the dress is ill-fitting but that halterneck was really great.

Some of the new photos are so cute! And the one with her mum is so sweet.

  15. Loretta says:

    I loved the new pics!

  16. MerryGirl says:

Happy Anniversary to the handsome and beautiful Duke & Duchess of Sussex. I loved her dress then and I love it now. Brings back memories of what a fabulous wedding that was. What a year its been including the addition of their new bundle of joy. Best wishes and hope they enjoy man,y many more.

  17. SV says:

The dress was designed so that not only will it not look out of place in the future, but so that it wouldn’t look out of place in the past as well. Meghan could have been getting married at any time previously in the long history of St. George’s.

    • Alexandria says:

Yes I do think this was a good point.

    • Mumbles says:

Agreed. As much as Diana got the rep for being a fashion icon, her dress screams 1981. (She was only 19 so it’s understandable.) Same with Fergie. Very 1980s with the satin and beading. But the latest brides – Kate, Zara, Meghan, Eugenie – have gone the timeless route.

  18. IlsaLund says:

I loved the new pics. It was such a beautiful royal wedding. Does anyone know how the British tabloids are reacting to Gayle King’s Special?

  19. Redgrl says:

I still don’t like the wedding dress. But I still absolutely love love the reception dress. That was perfect.

  20. 90sgirl says:

Meghan glowed, her face looked ethereal ,stunningly beautiful. Love the wedding dress, and veil and tiara, the entire look.
Harry and Meghans love and joy was jumping through the tv screen.
My all time favorite wedding, the happiness, love and joy was beyond measure.

  21. TheOriginalMia says:

The video was a lovely look into my favorite Royal wedding. Meghan was absolutely beautiful that day. The dress was elegant and simple and perfect. Harry’s happiness comes through the pictures. Happy Anniversary, the Sussexes!

  22. Peg says:

Meghan and Harry loved the dress, and once they were happy with it, no big deal.

  23. Lucy2 says:

Beautiful photos! You can see they were truly happy.

  24. ChillyWilly says:

Aw! Those are gorgeous photos! Can’t believe it’s been a year already. I watched that whole dang wedding and was enthralled. They are both so attractive and charismatic.

  25. Chef Grace says:

A wedding gown should NEVER outshine the bride.
    Her gown was perfection.

  26. Abby says:

I loved their wedding so much. My MIL and I and my 3 year old all got up early to watch (we were visiting family out of town). Loved that memory popping up yesterday.

I really liked the new photos they posted!

  27. Becks1 says:

Their wedding was gorgeous, it felt so intimate, even though it was being watched by millions. Her dresses were both fantastic.

  28. Marigold says:

That gown was ridiculously ill-fitting. For someone who could have a tailor at the end of each fingertip to help her, there is no excuse for the fit.

  29. Linda says:

It was such a beautiful wedding however I still cannot believe how Ill fitting her gown was particularly the armpit area. However the halter neck dress she wore afterwards was divine.

  30. Sunnee says:

I loved the new behind the scenes photos, what a touching compilation of ordinary/extraordinary moments. The picture of Harry walking down the stairs and glancing up was so extraordinary in that it could have come from any home wedding. The one of Meghan and her mother was filled with such joy. The last one was so beautifully chosen – one Old Glory in a sea of Union Jacks. Representing one American in a sea of Brits.
Each picture of her dress underlined how elegantly simple it was. The flow of the veil was picture perfect. I especially liked the shot of her receiving her bouquet from Harry’s assistant. The composition is breathtaking. Also I hadn’t realized he picked the flowers for her bouquet that morning- Forget me nots and flowers from the Frogmore garden. I thought that was such a beautiful touch. Her bouquet was a gift from him to her. Ach, my heart!

  31. Jb says:

Her ceremony dress was boring and not well tailored and her reception dress was basic but very lovely.

  32. Gingerbee says:

I loved the simplicity of the wedding dress, and it was not tight. With all that waving, I could see why it was loose. I also loved Crown Princess Victoria’s dress.

  33. Case says:

I LOVED her dress from the moment I saw it. I’ve always imagined my own wedding dress being similarly classic with long sleeves. I just loved it. It fits Meghan’s personality.

I loved every moment of watching this wedding. It was so warm and joyful. Their music selections were stunning, and it all felt very intimate. I’ll never forget her looking up at him for the first time when they stood together at the altar — she looked like a Disney Princess brought to life. Which she is, really. Happy Belated Anniversary to this lovely couple!

  34. Hope says:

They had the best royal wedding. In all the other weddings, the couple has been overwhelmed by the pomp and circumstance.

  35. HeyThere! says:

I enjoy them so much. Meghan is probably the most photogenic human I have ever seen. Never once a bad picture?!?! The black and white images are beautiful.

    • jen says:

i agree, she cannot take a bad photo! her complexion and facial structure are amazing.

  36. Olenna says:

IMO, the wedding was wonderful and unforgettable. The anniversary video is perfect. Well put together, and I loved the pic of Meghan and her mom as well as the symbolism of the flags photo.

  37. MsIam says:

I thought at the time of the wedding and still do think that Meghan’s dress was perfect for her. It was very sophisticated and elegant without trying to hard. And it seems to fit her personality and style as most of her other outfits follow that same pared down vibe. As far as the fit of the gown, maybe she lost some weight due to all of the back and forth involving Toxic Tom and will he or won’t he come? That would be enough to make anybody lose their appetite. Best wishes to them both and baby Archie too!

  38. Ann says:

Love love. I’m 54 and I watched it live in the wee hours of the morning just as I did with Diana when I was 16 and Sarah and Kate too. And it tugged at my heart to see Charles so smiley and welcoming and happy to be escorting her, and also how Harry and Meghan made goo goo eyes at one another. Just lovely. Better than any Disney Cinderella.

But I don’t like how Camilla wasn’t watching as Charles returned to his seat. These days I’m pro Camilla but come on, Camilla, that was a big moment and you were chatting with Kate.

    • Mary says:

@Ann, it was funny how so many of the Royals were rarely even looking at Meghan during the ceremony at all. I don’t recall seeing Kate or Andrew even once looking at Meghan during the ceremony. Is that a British thing? Is that what is referred to as “cutting” someone? Anyway, it is a hoot how Andrew just sat there and stiffly stared, not at the couple but, straight ahead for about the entire ceremony!

  39. paddingtonjr says:

I liked her wedding looks; the gown didn’t distract, the messy bun was definitely her and the bandeau crown brought the look together. H&M just looked so happy and in love, which makes everything look better. Maybe because they’re still technically newlyweds, maybe because they’re new parents, but they just exude love and peaceful contentment.

  40. Brandy Alexander says:

I really like the design of the gown, but I still hate the execution of it. But as long as she loved it, that’s all that matters.

  41. Reece says:

“I will stan this gown to my dying day!”
    SAME!!
