Just after the Met Gala, Serena Williams flew to Rome to play in one of her favorite cities, the city where she met her husband Alexis and where he proposed to her. She played one match and then she dropped out of the tournament, saying that she’s still dealing with a knee injury. Then late last week, she of course turned up in Paris to prepare for the French Open, which started on Sunday. Serena is due to play later today (more on that in a moment). Serena creates headlines wherever she goes, so of course people were like “OMG” when she turned up at Paris Disneyland in a wheelchair. But she’s been on court practicing and I guess she’s good to go. The GOAT only cares about Slams at this point, knee issue or no knee issue.
As it turns out, Serena was busy in those days in between dropping out of Rome and arriving in Paris. She flew to England to spend some time with her friend, the Duchess of Sussex. Serena met Baby Archie!
He might be just three weeks old but baby Archie Mountbatten-Windsor already has at least one big-hitting celebrity fan. I can reveal that tennis superstar Serena Williams popped in to see him last week, making a flying visit before she headed for Paris to prepare for the French Open tournament. Serena, 37, was accompanied by her husband Alexis Ohanian, 36, and their one-year-old daughter Olympia.
Serena even posted a picture of herself in a regal state room on Instagram before getting back to work yesterday. She is an old pal of Archie’s mum Meghan, and was a guest at her wedding and at Meghan’s baby shower in New York. Meghan, 38, and Harry, 34, have been inundated with visitors at Frogmore Cottage over the past seven days as they attempt to decide who Archie’s godparents will be. Favourite for the role of godmother is Meghan’s best friend, Canadian fashion stylist Jessica Mulroney, 39, who jetted in from Canada with daughter Ivy, five, to see the Royal parents and their baby.
Top contender for the role of godfather is Soho House creative director Markus Anderson, 42, who has also been to visit. He has been described as the ‘second most important man in Meghan’s life’ and arranged her baby shower in April. Harry’s aunts, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes – Princess Diana’s sisters – have visited, and so have a few of his old chums. Most notable was Tom Inskip, who reportedly had a cooling of his friendship with Harry after he told him to slow things down with Meghan. He visited with his wife Lara.
I think it’s cool that Serena made some space in her schedule to go visit Meghan and the baby. I wonder what it was like for Olympia to meet Archie – I bet it was a mess! QaiQai – Olympia’s infamous doll – was probably also along for the ride. Do you think Meghan will ask Serena to be godmother? I would love that, but I doubt it will happen.
As for Serena at Roland Garros… she previewed her Virgil Abloh-for-Nike kit, but is she really going to play in a crop top?? I hope that long skirt detaches!! Oh well. The French Open famously “banned” Serena’s catsuit from last year, so I guess she was like “go bigger, more extreme.”

Also, I hate that my mind immediately goes here, but I’m just waiting for the royal reporters find SOMETHING to bitch about w/r/t this visit, especially if Serena was indeed in Windsor Castle. This should be a purely nice story, but after seeing the crap they take issue with when it comes to Meghan over the the past couple of years, I’m automatically conditioned to wait for a chorus of rude and nonsensical garbage.
ETA I just remembered that Serena is a Jehovah’s Witness (I think?), and I’m not familiar enough with all of the rules to know if that would preclude her from being able to be a godparent? In any case, that is one lucky baby to be able to grow up knowing Serena!

Not sure if the Church of England allows unconfirmed people to be Godparents, the rules may have changed.
I think you just had to baptised. That was the case when I was asked to be godmother to my cousin.
You had to be baptized to get confirm, when I grew up in the Anglican Church.
Help me understand why the church is at all relevant in choosing godparents? If I love & trust my best friend who is not anglican…im.still choosing my best friend.

I was going to say the same thing. For some reason reporters are claiming that the videos and photos Serena posted are at Windsor Castle. Commonsense is that wouldn’t be allowed, no matter how close you are to the family. She may not have even met Archie since they are basing it off of a fancy room.
She did visit Frogmore, unless Archie was at a sleepover, that would be the only reason why she would not see him.

Ignacio Figueras said he and his wife visited Archie before the polo match in Rome, and Harry just holds and look at Archie. He even posted on Instagram about people thinking they know Harry, that reporter must have really pissed him off.
Wow I just saw that Instagram post. Now I’m thinking if Harry has quietly been working behind the scenes for years to avoid outshining William. I’ve always thought it interesting that he did not have to create Invictus and Sentebale but he did anyway (and the numbers were not counted initially). So I really liked that about him.

I love Serena’s new gear. Love that it’s reminiscent of African fabrics. Love that all of the folks in the photos appear to be POC. Love the braids on two of the models. I’m Very Curious about the words sprinkled throughout the patterns in the fabric.
I’m also glad that her people are showing up to visit Meghan (not just friends and family of Harry). The time after you have a baby, when you’re still in the “newborn family cave” can be really lonely and isolating for new mothers.

Sorry but how is that a credible rumour? I’m assuming that her high school has said what year she enrolled and graduated? Same as when she enrolled and graduated from University? Unless she started elementary school at age ten (which is of course ridiculous!), she likely would have entered elementary between the ages of 6 or 7. And from there it’s just a matter knowing the year she entered elementary and the year she graduated. Math.

If she graduated from Northwestern in 2003, which is 15-16 years ago, and she was 21-22 at the time, that puts her in the 37-38 range.

According to posters on the Royal Forum, Serena can’t (and wouldn’t) be a godparent due to her religion. That also eliminates Jessica Mulroney because she’s Jewish. Not sure about that one. We shall see.
I know Jessica Mulroney’s father’s family is Jewish, but I’m not sure she is (I think her mom is Catholic.)
