At this point in the celebrity-political hybrid culture, I truly don’t mind when celebrities talk about political and politically sensitive issues. I also think it’s nice when celebrities aren’t issuing big political statements, and instead they just merely show up for people who have survived. While Kanye West is MAGA (never forget), he also did something good. He showed up for the community of Dayton, Ohio. The Dayton mass shooter killed or injured dozens of people several weekends ago. And this weekend, Kanye West brought his “Sunday Service” thing to Dayton – prayers, preaching, singing and music. Some joy for those who wanted it.
Kanye West is honoring all of those affected by the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, which left nine people dead and 27 injured. On Sunday, West held a special performance of his Sunday Service at RiverScape MetroPark, which was not announced until the morning of.
“In support of the victims and survivors of the Dayton mass shooting,” Kim Kardashian West tweeted on Sunday morning, alongside a link where fans could watch a live stream of the performance. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, 38, accompanied her husband to the show, bringing along the couple’s eldest children: daughter North, 6, and son Saint, 3 ½. At one point during the live stream, West could be seen smiling along with his daughter while Saint stood by his mother. The special performance was also attended by some of those who had been affected by the shooting.
Towards the end of the ceremony, West’s friend Dave Chappelle, who had previously announced he would be hosting a benefit concert in Dayton on Sunday, addressed the crowd with a rousing speech.
“Dayton, today the whole world is looking at you,” Chapelle said, adding that even though the town had “been through a tough time,” they were still standing. “We’re still strong and the only way — the best way, that we can honor our fallen is by getting up better than we were before. We will not let those people die in vain.” The comedian, 46, went on to thank his longtime friend West for putting the special performance together. “Thank you very much Kanye for coming out here man,” Chappelle said.
The only thing that kind of bugs me is that they only announced this the morning of? Kanye showed up for the community of Dayton, he could have given them advance notice. I’m absolutely sure more people would have wanted to join in. Oh well.
Oh, and Kim also spent this weekend posting photos of her babies. Psalm West is apparently her calmest baby. But why is he bald?? Did they just shave his little head?

Does he actually practice what he preaches? This is a huge money grab for him. He is in the process of making Sunday Service merch. If they wanted more of the people directly affected by the shootings to show up, they could have announced the service days ahead of time.
Also, Kim really? How would you know your baby sleeps through the night when you have night nannies that take care of that ! Also, WHEN does she study? Honest question…WHEN ???

kanye’s just doing what a fair number of christian pastors do, especially those leading megachurches, by focusing on money above all. at least it’s clear it’s entertainment and he’s trying to make money and he’s not trying to save anyone’s soul, unlike a joel osteen or a creflo dollar or a spawn of billy graham.
It’s not just Christian pastors that do this. Many religions have “leaders” that are only in it for the money.

there was a concert in the Oregon District yesterday evening. no performers were announced before hand so it was thought that he might be there for that. So not announcing this was in with the surprise element.

Anything Kanye does at this point I take with a grain of salt. He’s never been the most sincere giving person so I’m questioning whether this was more self serving than bring comfort to those affected by this tragedy.
Good for Kanye. Likely didn’t announce it because he didn’t want it to become a circus or thought people would accuse him of trying to profit off of a tragedy. I bet the victims and their families knew ahead of time and that is who the service was for. It was a nice thing and I’m glad that he did it. At this point Kanye can’t win for losing with a lot of people so I’m glad he’s just moving forward. I like Kim and Kanye both separately and together and their children are beautiful and seem happy.
Also, Psalm is just a bald baby. They didn’t shave his head. He’s a cutie pie.
He’s selling sweatshirts at his services. He is profiting off this venture.

Agreed that he probably didn’t want to create a circus as he probably didn’t have proper security or logistical support for anything too big. That said, he is certainly making money off his merch and it’s “good PR” which he desperately needs. He is also calling attention to the issue. Lots of things can be true at once but everyone seems to just hear “Kanye” or “Kardashian” and grab their pitchfork.
It’s a nice gesture, I’ll give him that. And I used to be a full-on Kanye fan, LOVED him. But I can’t see past MAGA, and considering he supports a president who will do jack shit about gun control, this seems pretty empty to me. But I do hope some joy was brought from this to people who truly need that I’m sure.
I am not here for this man’s greedy, thirsty attempt to establish a tax shelter by creating a church. He needs to go away.
