Duchess Meghan & Duchess Kate look somber for Remembrance Sunday

This is just a quickie, we’ll have more extensive coverage of the royals at the Remembrance Sunday events tomorrow. The entire Windsor clan came out for Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph in London today. The Prince of Wales laid a wreath of poppies at the Cenotaph, with Prince William and Prince Harry in tow. The Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Cornwall stood on one balcony together. The Countess of Wessex and the Duchess of Sussex stood on a separate balcony. That placement IS about rank – the Queen bracketed by future queen consorts, with the “wives of” other princes on a different balcony.

As we all know, Kate loves to do some weird military-esque cosplay with her coats/coatdresses. Usually when she does this, I feel like she’s Sgt. Pepper, reporting for keen duty. I mean, it’s on-theme, so whatever. The chest-tassels are really throwing me off, but I love her hat/fascinator.

Bonus photo of Kate’s intricate hairstyle. It’s very good, quite honestly.

People think Duchess Meghan’s coat is Stella McCartney. Perhaps. I do think Meghan is in the process of figuring out how to wear hats and look chic while doing so. She’s not quite there, especially compared to the other royal hats we see. It’s not really Meghan’s fault – American women just have no idea what to do about hats. Meghan looks lovely though – she’s really glowing these days.

Kate does love her military styles for this event. She looks fine. So does Meghan. I don’t like that big hat but Meghan is def still figuring out formal hats, so I give her a pass.

    • Lorelei says:

Kate’s hair looks really pretty in that shot where she’s turning to look at the Queen, but I cannot with those tassels all over her chest.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Her theme dressing continues to grate on my last nerve lol. W/out the tassels, it might be alright. Hat is great, as is her hair.

I LIKE Meg’s hat! She looks gorgeous. I remember Kate wearing a similar one years ago. I think it was after George, when she was still breastfeeding and had some pics taken with a lot of her gray roots showing…? I remember everyone giving her grief for taking a shot with her hair parted in the middle, and she had a LOT of gray showing.

      • Elisa says:

I took a second look at her hair and it does look really nice.
Also, the Queen’s face in that pic. O_o I hope she is not as stone-cold on the inside as on the outside. 🙂

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Remember what PP said about Anne: “If it doesn’t eat hay and fart she doesn’t care.” For TQ, I’d add dog food, and her favourite Pedo son. And maybe Phillip until he started philandering. That’s the extent of her “caring”.

      • Becks1 says:

I don’t mind bigger hats in general, I just don’t particularly like this one for those event. Maybe with her hair down I would
Like it better? IDK. But overall I think she looks nice.

      • notasugarhere says:

These tassels remind me of a few of Diana’s worst militaryesque looks through the years. The white one with gold braid comes to mind, where she looked like a cruise ship purser.

      • My Dogs Asleep at My Feet says:

I saw the tassels and thought of pasties. I wondered when Kate was going to make them twirl.

      • L4frimaire says:

Those tassels are distracting and look like burlesque pasties. Expect her to do a shake and shimmy with those things. Not feeling her look at all, especially that ridiculous hat. Camilla is the best dressed of the 3 on that balcony.

      • BayTampaBay says:

“Remember what PP said about Anne: “If it doesn’t eat hay and fart she doesn’t care.”

Do not know where to put this so here goes. Last night on PBS Masterpiece there was a follow-up show to the “Durrells in Corfu” called “What the Durrells Did Next” which basically focused on Gerry Durrell who was a zoologist, one of the original climate change activist 40 years ago in the 1970s and a mentor to a young Sir David Attenborough. Bedside all of this very interesting stuff he was also a GOOD friend of Princess Anne. Princess Anne was on the show sharing stories and anecdotes involving Gerry Durrell and herself. I am quite shocked at how good she is on camera as she comes alive and exudes a very warm friendly feeling and warm friendly mentality.

After seeing her on this show, Princess Anne (along with Camilla) is now on my “to get drunk with” list. I would pay good money at a charity auction to win an evening drinking wine on Anne’s private patio/terrace at Gatcombe Farm with those two. Andrew Parker-Bowles could also come if he wanted too! LOL!

    • JV says:

Leave it to Kate to select boob tassels.

  2. Belli says:

Kate loves her militaristic theme dressing, but all I see is ribs.

    • Lauren says:

The coat looks like it’s trying to be the uniform Harry wore to his wedding. Weird.

    • Vava says:

I like Kate’s coat dress, but I think it would be better without the tassles. The tailoring looks really good from what little we can see of it. Hopefully there isn’t a peplum. I don’t care for that hat at all, but the hairstyle is quite nice. Wish she’d lighten up on the eye shadow.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Vera, I agree with you 100%. Lose the tassels and the coat would be a serious winner as it is tailored to perfection as all her clothes are.

As much I love Meghan, she looks a little sloppy and I think the coat, as killer as it is, is a tad too informal for this occasion. However, Meghan does look good and I like her in that hat.

  3. Ohdear says:

She looks great. Her hat is more beautiful that of Kate or Sophie. And Thursday she was so stunning with velvet hat and went viral with more than 57000 likes on one random. btw I disagree increasingly with your opinion when Meghan is concerned.

    • Bella DuPont says:

Interesting……what specifically do you disagree with?

      • Maria says:

I don’t know about @ohdear but I don’t like the whole American women don’t know style when it comes to hats. The British don’t have that area cornered as southern/american women have been rocking them for years and looking amazing while doing so.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Women of color in the South have been rocking hats since before the Civil War.

    • Chelle says:

Yeah. I was about to say that it might be a California thing but if Doria and Meghan had spent anytime in an old school black church or hell had even read Ebony or Jet magazines, then Meghan would know how to rock those hats. She’d at least have an appreciation for them, if nothing else. Those old girls will tell you that you aren’t dressed worth a sh*t until you are wearing a hat😂.

      • Guest2.0 says:

Truth. The hat game is strong amongst older black women. Those ladies know how to rock hats. Just think of Aretha and her hat collection.

      • Charlie says:

California girl here, and hard core hat lover. I know lots of people say they can’t wear hats, but there really are hats for every head- just have to try ’em on to find your fit. Takes a little time, but real km y worth it.

      • BayTampaBay says:

“Just think of Aretha and her hat collection.”

The hat Ms. Franklin wore to Barrack Obama’s fist inauguration knocked it out of the ball park.

  4. BaronSamedi says:

I think Meghan won the hat game here. I personally don’t love the more fussy fascinators and I think that big statement hat actually again looks more modern and stylish.

    But that’s just personal preference.

I do love that Meghan stepped up her eye make-up for this appearance – it was definitely called for with a hat this big and it works wonderfully.

    • Lorelei says:

I think Meghan’s hat would have looked better if her hair had been down. She has the face to pull it off for sure, but when she or Kate wears a hat like that with an updo, it seems a bit too severe IMO.

      • Nic919 says:

I actually really like her look today with this hat. I don’t like most of her hats, but I think today and Thursday she wore ones that worked. Here I think the spare look works considering the occasion. Being at the cenotaph is like being at a cemetery so simple and humble works.

      • Some chick says:

Imagine the outrage if she’d worn it down! Bigger hats just look better with hair up. Most hats do. The less hair showing, the more the hat stands out.

Also, it’s really funny that people say Meghan’s clothes are “ill fitting” when she just had a baby, and if she wears anything bespoke they come after her in the tabs. (I think these claims are exaggerated, and you can tell by looking at who is making them.)

Of course Never Set A Foot Wrong Kate’s schmattes fit – everything is bespoke! I do love her hairdo here.

Finally, a stylist helps with the selection of clothing and accessories. A tailor does custom fitting. These are not the same job! And if you think Meghan should have all of her graments perfectly tailored (while her body is still changing, postpartum) then I don’t want to hear a peep from you about expense. Good tailors do not work cheap. Just ask Charles!

    • notasugarhere says:

I like her hat here too, the simplicity of it with the classic coat. Reminds me of Maxima’s hat when she visited during Remenbrance a few years ago. I prefer hair up with hats so her sleek look works for me.

      • notasugarhere says:

Looked through some more royal hats. Meghan’s is similar to one CP Mary wore to a funeral this year. Maxima has 4-5 in this style as does Mathilde.

    • PrincessK says:

I think Meghan was flawless. I loved the hat which really accentuated her beauty. I was getting a very strong Audrey Hepburn vibe. The pictures of Meghan are stunning and newspaper editors definitely had to restrain themselves from putting her on the front page because these are some of the best pictures yet.

      • CynicalCeleste says:

Interesting. I got a very strong Inspector Gadget vibe. And spooky Halloween vibes from the other one, lol.

  5. TeamAwesome says:

But Meghan, love, you know who does know what to do with hats? A proper stylist.

    • Bella DuPont says:

Come on…..her hat is just fine. Great even. You’re being a little picky, methinks. 🙃

      • Olenna says:

Agree. I love the hat’s simplicity. I think it’s chic and doesn’t distract from her beauty. I also like the coat but I do not like the fit.

    • Linda says:

Meghan really needs a stylist, her clothes are usually badly fitted. But damn her face is absolutely gorgeous.

      • Some chick says:

A stylist isn’t a tailor. A stylist consults with the client around choices and combinations of clothing and accessories. A tailor actually stitches the clothing and does fit adjustment.

You know who really needs a tailor? Lots of ladies on the Oscars red carpet. So many of the gowns are too long! Even Angelina’s dresses often puddle around her feet. SMDH. They need a tailor!

Sorry to be repetitive. It’s just that I keep seeing comments about how Meghan needs a new stylist due to (perceived) fit issues. That is not how it works.

    • Elisa says:

+1, she absolutely needs a stylist. The hat is way too big and makes her look stumpy. Also, the belt looks budget. She is such a stunning woman, why these fashion choices? She nailed it with the velvet hat this week, so I don’t get it…
Kate’s hat is fine but the tassels on her coat are too much.

      • Gingerbee says:

Haha, that a new one, “hat makes Meghan looks stumpy.” You all cannot find anything else to criticize her. She looks appropriate for this occasion.

      • Elisa says:

English is only my 3rd language, so maybe I used the wrong word. I meant to say the hat makes her look shorter than she is and is overwhelming / too big for her. It actually reminds me of a flying saucer, the more I look at it. 🙂

      • minx says:

Elisa, I agree about the hat, it’s just a bit too big for her frame. Or maybe she should have word her hair down. Her face is beautiful though, and as someone said her eye makeup looks great here. Kate, meh, she looks fine I suppose.

      • Joanna says:

Yeah, I agree. It makes her face look shorter? and her frame look wider. I love her overall style but as others have mentioned, the fit of everything is always just a tad off. I hate Kate’s style but her clothes fit her better than Meghan’s do.

  6. s says:

Kate’s hair and fascinator are absolutely amazing! For this event I don’t mind the military look but at other times it can be a bit much.

I wasn’t liking Meghan’s hat and coat combo until I saw a closeup black and white photo by Chris Jackson – she has a very beautiful face and the closeup showed she has a black lace dress/top underneath. Wish we could see it in full…

  7. Flying fish says:

I love Meghan in broad rim hats. Broad hats suit her.

    • Sam says:

I agree! She should wear more of this hat,she looks fantastic

    • Harla says:

I agree 100%. I wear broad rim hats too so maybe I’m biased 🙂 but it is a style that really suits her.

      • Kristina says:

I don’t wear hats because I feel like I can’t pull them off. But I really do like Meghan’s hat here. To me it seems out of place because it’s so different than the style all the others are wearing, but it is pretty and makes me want to try one on 🙂

  8. Kittycat says:

    I didnt like Kate’s hat.

    Too many details.

    Otherwise lest we forget.

  9. emmy says:

The ladies all look fantastic from the neck up, Meghan and Sophie look fine if a little boring from the neck down. But for this occasion, that’s entirely appropriate. The theme dressing… Oy. Hated it when Diana did it, hate that Kate does it. This is not Halloween. If you’re not military, don’t dress as if you are?

  10. Digital Unicorn says:

Both looked fine, I like Katie keen’s coat but it would have looked a MILLION time better without those tassel’s (esp when they are pretty much placed on the nips).

    • Nic919 says:

The military cosplay looks childish. If she hasn’t served then wearing things to pretend to look like a solider is dumb. Either wear a uniform like Anne does, or dress like a civilian. To me it diminishes the point of the ceremony when someone shows up as a “pretty soldier”. We would never see this type of outfit from military spouses in North America and frankly the other royal spouses haven’t dressed like this either.

Meghan looks fantastic today though. The hat works for her.

    • Kristina says:

Those definitely look off to the sides to me. Not where I’d expect nips to be 😆

  11. Seraphina says:

Ahhhh Kate. Again thinking it’s a party where we have to dress to theme.

And yes, Meghan is definitely trying to figure out hats.

They both look great. What I do adore is Kate’s fascinator.

  12. Ignoto says:

Regarding her hats, Meghan is definitely there. I never understood why royal women wear hats that resemble mini satellite dishes (Sophie). Meghan’s hats are always chic and sophisticated….never ridiculous. Kate’s hat would have been fine if it didn’t have that useless piece of plastic sticking up in the back.

    • Harla says:

I agree regarding Kate’s hat/fascinator. Since the coat is so fussy with the ribbons and tassels, if the hat/fascinator was just that with the veil it would have looked better, the stuff sticking up in the back just adds more fussiness to this outfit.

  13. Lummy dee says:

Meghan was trying to recreate one of Diana’s rememberance looks here. I wish I could attach the pics. Black jacket, wide hat and black belt. But she didn’t quite get it cos Diana’s own was well tailored to fit her while Meghan’s is too big for her. On Chris Jackson’s Twitter, it showed how big it was for her petite frame. That as been a constant fashion faux pas. She tends to wear clothes that are too big most times.. I wish she could hire her suits era stylist. I really wish she could. Her stylist on suits knows what fits her well. But her face is glowing.

    • VS says:

That’s so untrue………Meghan has never played the game of trying to dress like Diana, never!!!…..Please stop lying and trying to reach!!!

I am happy she doesn’t do that; she doesn’t need to. I find this obsession of trying to recreate Diana’s look by some in the RF, really odd. At the same time, people who follow the RF are going overboard with it. Apparently now, wearing a color that Diana wore means recreating her looks; that’s insane

      • Olenna says:

ITA. And, from what I’ve seen, Meghan hasn’t given much thought (if any) to Diana’s outdated fashion choices and theme dressing to inspire her wardrobe, unlike the other duchess who has done it consistently over the years.

      • Lexa says:

Meghan has had a few similar looks to Diana, including her CH off the shoulder pink look: https://www.townandcountrymag.com/style/fashion-trends/gmp22529658/meghan-markle-princess-diana-dressed-alike/

While I do think Kate does it intentionally sometimes, most of the time it feels like a total coincidence or reach with both women and/or more indicative of 80s/90s fashion trends being back in style. (For instance, my mom was a devotee of the padded headband when I was I kid in the 90s.)

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Fashion is cyclical. It bothers the you know what out of me when people say “Y is copying X! Same colors/shape dress/pants/coat!” If no one could ever wore the “same” we’d be naked by now. I wear purples and reds (always have, love the 60s color combos); am I copying Diana? Or was she copying me (I’m a few yrs. older than she would be now)? I have a wonderful hunter green jacket with black braiding that I bought about 15 yrs ago… again, are they copying me? Am I copying them? It’s silly at this point.

      • Linda says:

        @Vs
It’s rude to accuse a commenter of lying, you could have made your point without saying that.

      • VS says:

@Linda —— It is now rude to call people out on their actions?, If that’s the case, so be it!!! where are we going? She was lying at best or gaslighting at worst……I don’t know which one is worse; well to each their own

      • Aka says:

        @VS

A bit of an over reaction I must say. Everyone can have an opinion. Even if Meghan took inspiration from Diana it’s fine.

    • Beach Dreams says:

LOL. I saw the look in question and the hats are completely different in style. Nice try. The jackets aren’t even similar. Considering you can only do so much with black outerwear for a somber occasion, I expected to see more of a similarity when seeing your claim. Again, nice try.

      • Lorelei says:

A few of the pictures included in that article are from before Meghan even met Harry, so I think those are unfair comparisons.

      • Nic919 says:

Meghan is wearing a similar outfit to Sophie today so is Sophie cosplaying Diana as well? These are basic fashion elements in black.

At least neither of them is doing soldier Barbie nonsense.

    • notasugarhere says:

No, that was Kate trying to do that a few years ago with the near-identical hat to Diana’s, along with the woolly collar and cuffs on the coat. Kate has done this for years, starting back with the Sandhurst graduation.

    • Becks1 says:

There is a difference between outfits randomly matching up, which is obviously going to happen, and specifically seeking to channel Diana with certain looks for key events. I.e. Kate wore a red floral dress to drop off Charlotte on her first day of school, and within hours there were pictures of Diana in a similar dress. Do I think that was intentional on Kate’s part? Eh, not really. That’s just a coincidence.

Kate wearing a red dress with a lace Peter Pan collar to present her second son at the hospital? Totally intentional. And at this point the intentional copies are so frequent that even when something is probably not intentional at all, like the red floral dress, it raises eyebrows.

Meghan wearing a black coat with a wide brimmed hat that is similar to one Diana wore is most likely unintentional.

      • yinyang says:

Kate channels Diana so often that this Pakistan tour when William was presented the book of Di, the first thing I did was look at Kate’s expression knowing the cameras were there and the pictures of her swf…awkward.

    • L4frimaire says:

I have never gotten Diana vibes or copying from anything Meghan has worn. It’s definitely more deliberate and obvious with Kate, and even then fairly subtle, and mostly jewelry. I’m sure Meghan has looked through archival photos, if only to get a sense of what is appropriate to wear in the role, but don’t think she sees a Diana outfit and then tries to imitate it. Nothing in any of these Remembrance Day outfits look remotely Diana-like. She has definitely stepped it up for these occasions.

  14. Sofia says:

    I like everyone’s looks tbh

If I absolute had to nitpick I would have chosen a smaller hat for Meghan but she still looks great IMO

  15. Bella DuPont says:

THe Queen keeps getting smaller and smaller, each year. 👀

  16. Nikomikaelx says:

I’m sorry but thats the ugliest hat ever, she just looks silly. Really liked the velvet one she used the other day.

  17. Talie says:

I’m really surprised there was no effort made to get a photo with the two couples by Charles or anyone at BP just to make it look like all is well.

Of course, if Camilla was still sick, Meghan would’ve been on the other side of The Queen…well, maybe.

    • Originaltessa says:

I honestly feel at this point that they don’t want it to seem like all is well and they want to force Harry and Meghan into line or have them go away completely. Harry and Meghan’s human and emotional take on being royal is so against the grain, I really think the palace is trying to reign them in.

    • spookie says:

I think they are just ignoring all the speculation. Lets face it, if they had appeared together some people here would be saying it was just for effect. 😆

  18. Linda says:

I love Kate’s outfit tassels and all, she looked stunning and the fit is impeccable.

    • Marigold says:

I do, too. I’ve always liked collars like that, and though I’m not a fan of the tassels, I thought the “rib” design was a lovely texture. I know Kate wears this kind of thing a lot at these events, but I almost always like it. I get that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s pretty on her. She wears these things well because she’s so tall and straight-line in her shape. It would look ridiculous on someone shorter or broader or with a larger bust, but on Kate, I think it works.

I’m in a military family, and I think the accusations of some kind of stolen valor attempt are utterly preposterous. You have to get up pretty early in the morning to twist a dress like this one into “trying to look like a member of the military.” The dress is not an attempt to look like a uniform. Please.

  19. VS says:

I love Meghan’s looks; I think it is very modern…..this look of hers is my favorite this week. No jewelry but look at her face! The camera loves her!!!

Chris Jackson must be making a lot of money with Meghan’s pictures

    • Nic919 says:

There is one shot out there from today that looks like a fashion cover.

      • Beach Dreams says:

I saw that shot, it was gorgeous. Of course, certain detractors are now accusing Chris Jackson of photoshopping Meghan’s photos. Ironic, considering how blatantly edited many of Kate’s photos are.

      • notasugarhere says:

You can tell they don’t have to photoshop Meghan. Watch videos from the Field of Remembrance ceremony from the other day. The videos aren’t ‘shopped and she looks near-perfect.

    • Gingerbee says:

Meghan looks lovely, and her hat is appropriate for this occasion. IMO, the fascinators are more suited for non somber events.

  20. Sassbr says:

This sounds wrong but when I saw Meghan’s hat I was like immediately, “Yes, Meghan, get in formation. Prove to those bitches you got some coordination.”
Obviously not too similar and not on purpose but I feel like subliminal power hat game

    • Ela says:

Yes, yes, yes!!! That’s what I thought. And I am here for every bit of it.

On a serious note, she is wearing a hat and being respectful. I am not sure what more is required.

    • Abby says:

Someone said something about Formation on their IG acct and I can’t unsee it. That’s the resemblance I most noticed. I think Meghan looks stunning.

I like Kate’s hair and fascinator. I don’t k ow how I feel about the military style coat.

It’s glaringly noticeable how far away the two couples are in photos over the last few days. Not a single one with them even in the same frame that I have seen.

  21. Bettyrose says:

Hat loving American girl right here! I don’t leave the house without one, but here’s the rub: commoner hats. I have a broad collection of fedoras, conductors hats, and baseball caps (some for teams, some for schools, some in solid colors).

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Same here, Bettyrose. I have fair skin, so I wear hats! I keep one in the car (I have a convertible), I have a waterproof one to wear in the rain, felt hats, straw hats. I even kept some of my grandmother’s little hats, with netting that I’ll pull out for a formal event; I LOVE those!

    • Joanna says:

Do you guys keep your hat on inside? I always feel like I should take it off when I go inside but then my hair looks like crap when I take the hat off.. so I don’t wear hats too much. How do you handle that situation?

      • Bettyrose says:

My curly hair always looks a bit unkempt, but I do some minor grooming in the bathroom at work to de-hat the look.

      • Some chick says:

Ladies are not expected to remove hats indoors for that very reason. Men are supposed to remove them, but we get a pass! 😀

  22. Annie says:

I’m a bit taken aback by how drawn and weary Kate has looked at recent events. She had a good post-Louis run, and her Pakistan tour wardrobe was gorgeous. Maybe it’s just seeing her back in her usual outfits is jarring me, but I’ve definitely noticed a difference. Perhaps it’s just in the eye of the beholder, but my gut is telling me something’s up.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

She *has* looked very tired lately. More “baggy” under the eyes, dark circles. Perhaps one or more of the kids have been ill, and she’s not getting much sleep (not that she couldn’t nap during the day, but still…if your kid’s sick, you don’t rest).

    • PrincessK says:

Well l think she is having problems with her husband, let us hope that she doesn’t continue to lose weight.

  23. Bonita says:

Here’s the thing about Meghan’s hat… The other women are wearing hats that are designed to be decoration. Meghan is wearing a hat designed for shade. Not much sun in November in London (or any other time of the year, tbh).

    • liriel says:

      Oh yeah!

    • notasugarhere says:

As I wrote above, plenty of other royal women have hats similar to Meghan’s in style. Wool hats, broad turned-down brim, worn and made for winter.

      • Bonita says:

Good for them. I’m simply pointing out why Meghan’s hat looks out of place, to me. I’m not asking anyone else to agree with me.

      • BeanieBean says:

That’s what I thought. Meghan’s hat will keep her head warm, which those dumb fascinators can’t do. And it looks cold out there!

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes, Beanie. It is a formal wool hat, and seems more formal to me than the hats Kate and Sophie are wearing.

    • JanetDR says:

A brim from also protects from a chilly wind. Fascinators seem pointless if it is cold, but that doesn’t seem to matter in the UK ( a place where I spent many childhood summers freezing from the cold breeze)!

    • Elisa says:

@Bonita: I took another look at the pics and I agree with you.

    • grumpyterrier says:

Yes, that’s what I thought as well. It looks like a sun hat for a more casual occasion.

  24. liriel says:

I don’t like Meghan’s hat, it’s too big and like straight out of a western movie (random reference). Hate Kate’s cosplay but love her hair and fascinator,
So we won’t get to see any friendly photo-ops of the couples?

    • Jaded says:

Out of a western movie? She’s not wearing a cowboy hat or a stetson you know…I’d say more out of an elegant movie from the thirties.

    • Le4Frimaire says:

I don’t mind Meghans hat. It does stand out and looks more practical than decorative. Would look better if slightly smaller. Really like Meghan’s coat, nicely fitted. Also once again tabloids pricing out Meghan’s clothes and jewelry, so maybe that’s why she wore no jewelry today. Find Kate’s hat a bit much with the veil and squiggles, and her hair looks very fussy and wiggy, like the bun was pinned on hairpiece. I actually really like Camilla’s hat and think she looks really good. Queens hat is practical, looks warm but I’ve seen better on her. Sophie’s hat looks like doughnut sliding down her head. Least favorite.

  25. TheOriginalMia says:

Meghan looks great. I love her hat because it’s one I could see myself in. Fascinators do nothing for me, so I’m less inclined to like them. Kate’s is too much paired with the military piping and tassels on her coat. Just too much going on.

  26. Guest says:

Meghan looks great. Her melanin is definitely shining through. I noticed some on Twitter are upset that the photographer kept tweeting pics of Meghan. oh well.

    • notasugarhere says:

It is quick-and-easy for the photogs to post pictures of Meghan – no photoshop required. She is glowing.

  27. CrystalBall says:

Why is Kate playing dress-up in a fake military coat? Does she think she is a brave little soldier? Everone else is respectfully clad, she might take a leaf out of the grown-ups guide of sartorial choices.

    • notasugarhere says:

It looks like another one of Kate’s American Girl Doll knockoff outfits, one for the school majorette.

    • Senator Fan says:

I think Katee looks beautiful in her coat and fascinator too. Meghan also looked beautiful as always, her face made the hat work.

People are too picky in criticizing everything with these ladies. They each have different tastes, personality and style and I like both of them and look forward to what they wear to events.

  28. Dani says:

Megan’s hat looks great here. I wish she would lay off the belted coats, though. She has a short waist and this style always makes her look stumpy (I too am short waisted and understand the struggle)

  29. notasugarhere says:

Yes but this brand new poster seems to be taking deliberate offense and making sure to bash everything about Meghan. Curious given their name, no?

  30. aquarius64 says:

The one thing I noticed on the Fail is some of the NICE stories it has done on Meghan and Harry during Remembrance week. The Sussexes meeting military families at Windsor. The 99 year old veteran who was thrilled to get a hug from Meghan; she smugged her make up on his collar and he won’t wash it off. Today a 9 year old met the Sussexes at the Field of Remembrance ceremony (it was her birthday).Meghan gave the girl a hug and her family took pictures. I wonder if this is a tactic by the Fail in reaction to the lawsuit – vinegar is not working so try the honey. I noticed that when Meghan gets price pointed on clothes Kate is too.

  31. S says:

38-year-old woman feels some measure of reproductive urgency isn’t exactly a shocking development. If they’ve decided they want to have more than one child, biology would dictate they don’t have the (easy) luxury of waiting several years between siblings. Sure, they could roll the dice that their wealth would allow them to extend natural fertility, but given the world spotlight already on their reproductive life, wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that holds little appeal, especially if they feel relatively confident, based on recent history, that they are able to do it the so-called “old fashioned way” right now.

The advice of any competent OB/GYN to a woman Meghan’s age (far from old, but nearing 40) would be that if you want to have more children, in the least complicated way possible, do so in a timely fashion.

    • notasugarhere says:

Sophie had James at 42. Angela of Liechtenstein had Alfons at 42/3. Another adjacent member of the BRF had a son a few years ago at 45. Fertility is different for every woman.

  32. Sof says:

So far, the only time I think Meghan looked great wearing a hat was when she wore a floppy one. In general I prefer her casual style. However, I’m glad her hair is pulled back, her face looks amazing!
As I said before, I actually like when Kate dresses on theme. This coat made me immediately think of a rib cage, perhaps she is glad My Chemical Romance is back?

  33. M.A.F. says:

I like Kate’s coat but not feeling the tassels. I like Meghan’s hat but not for this occasion.

  34. Dana says:

What’s with the Cindy Crawford beauty dot on Megan? Did the mole grow overnight?

    • Sunshine says:

There are many pictures of Meghan as a child, then teenager with a mole. Well documented. Try again.

    • VS says:

Even moles are now source of envy???? my goodness, Meghan is stunning! I know that sometimes creates strange resentment in people especially women. I don’t understand why……I am not close to be as pretty as Meghan is, not even close but I have been taught very early on to appreciate beauty in everything.

Meghan is stunning, I don’t think there is a woman in the RF at the moment, who is as stunning as she is…….what I admire the most about her is not how stunning she is but her work and the innovation/creativity she brought to the table. Someone envying the work she has been able to do in less than 2 years as a member of the RF, I would understand; someone envying physical beauty is mind-blowing!

    • Abena Asantewaa says:

Don’t be ridiculous, everyone knows, Meghan has a mole, stop with this trolling, you are pathetic!

    • Nic919 says:

Mole or not it’s going to be that beautiful picture of Meghan making the rounds of international press covers and not the others.

    • cubby says:

Oh my god you’re so transparent, Mini Mid. Go away.

  35. Jaded says:

Military cosplay at a Remembrance Day event seems a bit OTT. It’s a VERY solemn occasion so wardrobe, unless you’re in the military, should be kept very simple. It’s not about fashion, it’s about paying respect to all the military personnel who fought and gave their lives. Kate just doesn’t seem to get it.

Meghan did it right, she looks stunning and respectful. I am of the minority who hate fascinators, I think they’re silly and elitist and I think her proper hat was appropriate and elegant for the occasion.

    • Nic919 says:

We are on the same page. What’s odd is that Kate has gotten it right in the past but in the past two years she’s been obsessed with this faux military stuff. Last year wasn’t as obvious, but someone should have told her this year that perhaps tassels on her chest with military brocade may not be the best look. Her stylist failed her here.

  36. Lisa says:

I think her hat game is improving. This and the last one are much better than some she has previously worn.

    • Penguin says:

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the hat at all. It looks respectful and goes with the coat. From the neck up she’s looked great at both events.

  37. Penguin says:

I think Meghan looks good here, the hair tied back is neat and tidy (unlike sausage curl looks) and the coat is somber and a British label. Which is a relief as the Erdem was a big miss.(And she’s gonna get a lot of flack for those pricey earrings).

Kate’s coat, is a big no for me. It’s like she took the praise she got for the military look with the white and red accent from 2018 and decided that she should repeat the military theme and failed. The hat and hair are good though.

  38. Clara says:

Jeez Kate’s coat is so wrong. It looks like a rib cage and on her slender figure it looks comedy and like a Halloween costume or cosplay. Mimicking service brocade is not respectful at all at this event. Only nice thing is her up do. Love Meghan’s hat though I agree with a comment up thread it does make her look at big squat.

  39. Marigold says:

I keep seeing it said (every time DoS wears a hat) that American women don’t know what to do with hats.

That’s just not true. A lot of American women never wear hats, but Southern women do–especially Southern Black women. A black American woman from Atlanta or Jacksonville or Charlotte–take your pick of Southern cities–knows exactly how to rock any kind of hat you can imagine. I once ran into a woman in Birmingham, Alabama wearing a neon–neon!!–purple dress with a hat that looked like a literal fruit bowl, and she rocked it. I have no idea how she made that ridiculous hat (and it should have been absurd) look chic and elegant, but she did. Something to do with presence and confidence in this kind of clothing.

The United States is very large and very diverse, and we have a huge pocket full of women who know exactly what they’re doing with head…gear? Is gear the word? I don’t know because I’m lost in hats and have spent my life envying women who can wear them well because I love them. Meghan should consult a few ladies (Brit or otherwise) who have the hat thing on lock, but her hat game is improving, for sure.

  40. yinyang says:

Queen keeps getting shorter lol. Kate loves her some cosplay, looks like it was made by a movie costume designer. Don’t like Meghans hat, she needs some good tailoring on her clothes, but greedy Charles spends endless amounts of money on mom, himslef, Camilla, William and Kate and screws the rest of the family. Poor Meghan.

  41. TuxCat5 says:

I’m quite certain Kate is wearing that hat backwards, like she did with the fuchsia (“bright pink”) one she wore at Eugenie’s wedding.

The coat is ridiculous, with the design and tassels. Silly-looking theme dressing.

She’s got too much ornamentation going on: coat design with the tassels, elaborate hairdo, ornate, decorative detail and netting on the hat. Too much and mismatched.

  42. Sass says:

Look I’m being a real asshole but on one hand we’ve got Tchaikovsky’s nutcracker and on the other it’s Carmen San Diego and they’re here to put on a ballet about geography.

  43. RoyalBlue says:

Looove Meghan’s broad brimmed hat. I seem to recall Kate wearing something similar when she was pregnant with Louis and also wore all black.

  44. Myra says:

One looks 50 and the other 30. Fascinates are UGLY

  45. Mar says:

I love Kate’s look so much, although the hat may be to busy for all of the detailing on the jacket. She’s killing it.

Megan is absolutely gorgeous so she can make anything work.

  46. starryfish29 says:

Kate’s military cosplay is almost as ridiculous as Edward’s. I’d like kate’s hat better without the strange pipe cleaner thing at the top. Meghan looks nice and appropriately understated. I think wide brimmed hate suit her, but if she’d worn her hair down with that hat she’d have looked a bit too Carmen Sandiego. Sophie’s hat is perched at a bit too much of an angle, just enough to look cookey rather than chic.

  47. spookie says:

    wrong place

  48. MsIam says:

Don’t like Kate’s coat. Very Nutcracker to me, maybe Nutcracker in mourning? Don’t like the hat either, very old lady looking, the whole outfit. Don’t know if I like Meghan’s hat either but the coat is okay. I’m not a hat person, glad I wasn’t an adult in the 50s and 60s when they were almost mandatory.
