I have a question for all of the New Yorkers who might read this blog: are you okay with quarantining in the city which has become the de facto āepicenterā of the coronavirus pandemic in America? If you had to do it all over again, would you have decamped to another state in early March? If I lived in New York, I probably would have been like āI can handle this, Iāll stay,ā and then my horror would have grown exponentially with each passing day. Well, Real Housewife of New York Sonja Morgan decided to go to a detox/retreat in Desert Hot Springs, California in mid-March. And now sheās pretty much stuck there for the duration of the quarantine period. Which, honestly, is a totally different kind of quarantine hell. How many juice cleanses and colonics can one have in a quarantine?
Sonja Morgan is self-isolating nearly 3,000 miles away from New York City ā the epicenter of the coronavirus crisis in the U.S. ā and following a strict diet regimen while in quarantine. The āReal Housewives of New Yorkā star told The Daily Beast she is at a spa in Desert Hot Springs, California, on a retreat she booked months ahead of the outbreak.
āI havenāt had hard food in 10 days,ā the 56-year-old said, sharing that she is on a juice cleanse and doing colonic procedures. The reality star did not disclose how long she plans to eat only soft food, but Daily Beast reports it is for the āforeseeable future.ā
Morgan reassured her fans on her Instagram Stories on Monday that she is āOK,ā walking for exercise, but keeping six feet of distance from others as a precaution.
āGetting my health back,ā she captioned a picture of herself on a hike. āGetting my immunities up. Grateful for the wakeup call.ā
You can read the Daily Beast piece here, Kevin Fallon spoke on the phone to all of the RHONYs and very few of them are actually in New York right now. Most of them saw the writing on the wall and decided to get out of the city in mid-March. As for Sonja⦠I actually hope the quarantine months will signal the end of the āwellnessā culture and people will re-embrace real science and real medicine. This whole idea of isolating in a desert resort and only eating soft food and having a daily colonics for months on end⦠Jesus, that sounds like a punishment.

They probably don’t have booze there, that was my first thought, also a form of punishment.
We recently bought a house in the suburbs and are SO GRATEFUL. Two of our neighbors in our building in Brooklyn tested positive and everyone is freaking out. If not for this house though we wouldnāt have had anywhere else to go, so I think a lot of NYers are stuck where they are whether they wanted to or not.
She has fans? Iām making an Amber from Clueless āwhat-everrrrā sign with thumbs and forefingers.
Yes, am really that bored.
Juice “cleanses” and daily colonics for any length of time is good for your health.
As someone who lives in a summer resort area for a lot of NY people, I totally get the impulse to flee, but none of these vacation areas have the infrastructure for this right now. All of our first responders, medical centers, and grocery and supply stores are only staffed for off season.
Honestly, if I were a celebrity isolating in a spa or fancy hotel, I don’t think I’d be sharing it with the world right now. I don’t even know who this is, I doubt people are desperate to know where she is.
I am a native New Yorker, I have grown up in apartments my entire life. When I turned 25 a few years ago, I started to have a deep appreciation and gratitude for the SILENCE and SOLITUDE that the great outdoors offers that NYC seems to be lacking. Since this pandemic started, my sister and I have discussed going halfsies on a country house in Vermont about 3.5 hours from the city. Would love to have camped out there š Even though the economy is going in the sh*tter, a girl can dream right?
That’s a really long way of saying that we’re all going insane here, living cheek to jowl with zero peace, privacy and the outdoors (I am recovering from a presumed case of coronavirus, so I have not been outside for some time). Facetimed with my friend who lives in London but used to live in Brooklyn and she said, “at least I have my terraced patio in my flat.” What I would give for that right now!
Food is medicine though, so sheās doing the best thing. I would be if I could, but Iām taking care of my older parents. You donāt need to be a scientist to know that you are what you eat.
Many of the privileged people who left New York early were asymptomatic carriers of covid and spread the disease to areas where the infrastructure of hospitals, groceries, etc was set up for the smaller community. I agree with the above poster that these celebs should not be ābrag postingā given the scarcity of PPE. They should have quarantined in their own homes. Look at the Hamptons and their beaches just last weekend.
Iāve been quarantining at my familyās ranch. Being in the middle of nowhere, without any chance of seeing anyone, has been so wonderful I canāt even explain it. Just miles and miles of green landscapes.
That said, her face looks painful to me.
