Lil’ Wayne endorses Donald Trump: ‘He listened to what we had to say’

Karlie Kloss, Josh Kushner at arrivals f...

I don’t even know how to explain what’s going in modern politics over the past five or six years. There are certain people, mostly men (but not exclusively men) who are just… not as smart as they think they are. I don’t know how else to explain this without cursing excessively. I don’t have the political language to explain the die-hard cult-of-personality-support of someone like Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump. I don’t even comprehend how reasonable people could ever support Donald Trump. And I especially don’t get how people – mostly men – within a heavily marginalized American community could take the side of their oppressors, the very people who are hellbent on oppressing them. The only explanation I can come up with is that for someone like Ice Cube or Lil’ Wayne, they’re too dumb to understand (or admit) that they are being conned by the dumbest con man in town. So, yeah, Lil’ Wayne endorsed Donald Trump:

True story: I first read “platinum plan” as “plantation plan” and I was like “that checks out.” I’m sure the Trump platinum plan is little more than a plantation. As for this: “He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.” LMAO. Yeah, I don’t get it.

Also: I had to double-check but Lil’ Wayne has been convicted of multiple felonies over the years. Surely he can’t vote? I wonder what state he could conceivably be registered in.

Go to bed Lil’ Wayne, you are outta your mind.

    • Julie says:

Lil Wayne has never been pro-black. For years he’s been saying that police brutality doesn’t bother him. Just to be clear he wasnt denying the brutality. He was just saying that he’s in a different tax bracket and therefore its no longer his concern.

We have our share of narcissists too and its not surprising they gravitate towards mainstream hip-hop. Where narcissistic braggadocio is rewarded. Where narcissistic treatment of women is celebrated. Where the talent bar isn’t too high if you can hire quality ghost writers.

I’m surprised Trump is just figuring out that all he had to do was feed their need for importance and he could get about half the hiphop chart for a WH photo op

      • Anna says:

Truth. Legendary Black Arts Movement founder Amiri Baraka (one of the originators of performance poetry) had some very choice words for those in our community who produce and have bought into this particular kind of narcissistic misogynist style of rap and hip hop. Sadly, even KW mother was one of the founders of the Gwendolyn Brooks poetry center in Chicago so he had a visionary foundation but has gone the way of narcissistic misogynist braggadocio. End of the day, it’s all about their d***s and their cash.

    • Yvette says:

I think it’s all about the Benjamins. Trump cut taxes for the rich. The bottom line is very important for some arts in the Black community. Having been a member of the Black community for many years, this saddens me. 🙁

    • atorontogal says:

Go slurp some sizzurp and disappear – is he still a thing?

    Wtf is all i got

  3. Esmom says:

I don’t have any words about why anyone would endorse Trump but the thing that kills me is that Joe Biden has tons of celebs who’ve endorsed him (not to mention the countless musicians who have ordered the Trump campaign to stop using their music) and the MAGAs are ecstatic when a single famous person comes out in favor of Trump. The disparity is notable and their enthusiasm for their own tiny “victories” is just way out of proportion.

    • whatWHAT? says:

plus, add to that they hypocrisy they show when any A-list celeb endorses Biden.

      “who cares what celebrities think?!!!!”

uh, YOU do, or did, when you crowed about Kid Rock, Ted Nugent and Chachi. AND YOU ELECTED A DAMN CELEBRITY, you knob.

    • Suz says:

Haha remember when the only headliners Trump could get for his inaugural concert were Three Doors Down and The Piano Guys?

      • H says:

No, no, no. Three Doors Down? Damn. I once had drinks with that band in Philly after a concert. (They opened for Creed and were staying at my hotel.) Nice guys. Going to delete them off my Amazon Music.

      • E.D. says:

        Yes – I remember that!
No one of any substance or relevance endorses Trump.
        How embarrassing.

  4. Edna says:

COVID is ravaging the black community. Black people have disproportionately lost jobs due to the pandemic. BLM has been labeled a terrorist organization and every police dept in the country supports Trump. He openly supports white supremacists.. But all black people need to care about and be thankful for is criminal justice reform and a pie in the sky Platinum Plan.
Lil Wayne is just like any other wealthy person looking out for his own interest. People of color are not a monolith. Black people don’t all think and act alike. For some reason Trump and company don’t understand that. Donald Trump is not converting Black voters to the Republican Party. Black Republicans are coming back home after voting for Obama. Older black people and black women are the ones who vote consistently not the the foolish young who may or may not be swayed by the likes of wealthy selfish rappers. It’s actually good to see these idiots finally reveal themselves for who they are and what they care about.

    • I am Mimi says:

Exactly. And there is NO criminal reform. None. He took Obama’s Fair Sentencing Act and closed a loophole to make it retroactive. It affected 10% of Federal prisoners–which turned out to be … all of 3,100 hundred people. That. is. it. Wayne has no idea what he’s talking about. And guess what? I’m not a criminal, so that has nothing to do with my life. trump’s other policies, on the other hand, affect me every day (re-routing school funds, claiming there is no systemic racism, blocking fair housing programs, etc.).

      • Midnight@theOasis says:

Exactly. Criminal reform has no bearing on my life. But all the toxic policies Trump & Co have instituted do have a direct bearing on me. Especially the mishandling of the Covid pandemic.

    • HeyJude says:

There’s no monolith of course, but there’s still something shocking when a prominent member of the community sells it out like this. Kanye, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Lil Pump. All turned into puppets for the very people that oppressed them their entire lives. Sickening.

  5. serena says:

    Another dumbass..

  6. Teebee says:

Any “celebrity” willing to hitch their star to Trump, right now, is proof that they’re as desperate for some of that attention and spotlight that this absolutely bonkers election cycle has afforded as Trump himself.

He knows the spotlight would shine bright and hot on him, good or bad, if he inserted himself into the conversation now. He’s too weenie though to determine that anybody that’s willing to reach across the aisle to the biggest KNOWN liar in the universe looks naive and stupid.

Trump is absolutely the guy who’d give you a cheesy thumbs up for a photo op while lifting your wallet out your pocket as you walked away and then laughs at your stupidity with his cronies behind your back.

  8. ChillyWilly says:

People have lost their ever loving minds…I DO NOT GET IT.

    • cherriepie84 says:

I do not get it either! Are they being paid for these endorsements or something? What is in it for them? I can only imagine the consequences if say Beyonce, Serena, Nikki or any other notable black female entertainer had done this….they would have been dragged and cancelled long ago! However, Kanye, Ice Cube and “Little” Wayne continue to do the most and remain fine.

  9. SamC says:

I caught a snippet of Trump’s speech yesterday (didn’t change the radio station fast enough) and his plan for the Latino community, with billions of dollars invested and a bazillion jobs created, etc.. First, last, only thought was he was pandering for votes cause he knows he’s in trouble, IF he is re-elected that plan will never see the light of day, and is there anyone who actually bought what he was trying to sell?!

    • lucy2 says:

He’s been sitting on his giant butt for 4 years and done nothing to help anyone, but in the last couple of weeks of his campaign has made all sorts of ridiculous promises. There’s a vaccine coming! There’s a healthcare plan coming! Billions for this group, that group, the environment, blah blah blah. It’s all desperate nonsense.

    • paranormalgirl says:

The Latinos for Trump believe it.

  10. Merricat says:

Lol. I’m pretty sure that no one looks to Li’l Wayne for political advice.

  12. Oatmeal says:

I am an Afro American woman so what I say to you is the truth and here it is.

Alot of black men get wealthy and then forget they are black. To them their wealth shields them from systemic racism and they have a “seat at the table”

These men will masquerade and pretend they want equality and black liberation , when really they want to be on equal footing with white men in a capitalist patriarchy.

That’s how you end up with Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Shaq, Ye supporting Trump

    • detritus says:

I remember OJ saying he wasn’t black any more, he was just OJ.

It’s such a disservice to the black community, it’s just so disrespectful.

    • BlueSky says:

@Oatmeal, this. As a black woman, I’ve been saying the same thing. Just listen to rap lyrics as early as the 80s. Men like lil Wayne want to be Trump or John Gotti. They get money and access and suddenly believe they are on the same level as white men. They don’t want the patriarchy gone, they want a seat at the table. It’s all about proximity to whiteness and power. Throw these men some crumbs, convincing them that they are part of the circle but all they do is get used as pawns.
When black people defend these clowns I ask “where have they been the past 4 years? Are they registered to vote?” Do they vote?” Just say I’m supporting him because I’m rich and I don’t want to pay more taxes and be done. Don’t act like you are the Black Moses.

    • Also Ali says:

“when really they want to be on equal footing with white men in a capitalist patriarchy.“

This is the mindset of all black/brown/gay/female republican/trump voters whether they realize it or not.

      • Gina says:

        So so true!
They all believe that once they have wealth they’re in a different category of people. These white men, like Trump will never see them as equals, they will always look down on them. They laugh at them behind their backs.

    • Ronaldinho says:

This endorsement is an example of my original understanding of what I thought Kanye meant.
It is hard to grasp his thoughts as he’s often moving too fast.
I felt Kanye was saying that there comes a point where we choose slavery – voting for Trump seems like that.
Choosing oppression, inequality, murder all for a few tax bucks
I am not in any way trying to be racist in this posting – that was my original take and I felt a hot flash of it today in this endorsement

  13. Angel says:

Anyone who knows little Wayne isn’t shocked by this.

  14. Ninks says:

Who is the “we” in this scenario? Because…

  15. detritus says:

Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley from Community) just called his ass out.

    Her words –

“I am so glad I love people more than my bank balance,” she wrote, adding: “There’s nothing a white supremacist could offer me that is worth my people or the lives of any other group of people in this country who are suffering.”

  16. Ann says:

Every time I read about Lil Wayne I’m surprised he’s alive. Maybe it’s not the case now but a few years ago he kept having all those seizures from his addiction to opiates. His brain is probably as mushy as trumps.

  17. fluffy says:

Sleazy and Weezie, the picture says it all

  18. Ariel says:

On twitter i saw someone posted an Angela Davis quote- that i will paraphrase b/c i don’t remember exactly- about how black men and white women will always be the weak links in the fight for equality b/c they imagine equality to be- being equal in status to the white men in power.
    It is an interesting take.

I also think Lil Wayne is not very bright.

    • detritus says:

It turns out that’s not an actual Davis quote and there’s now some drama about it?

Only reason I know is because it was really interesting and I went to find it, so thank you for sharing, regardless.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

Whoever said it is correct and something I’ve noticed since my late teens. White women and Black men tend to occupy the space of being both victims/villains simultaneously. It’s weird and it almost takes a dissertation to explain it, but it really is true and makes the fight for equality so difficult to achieve.

  19. Watson says:

    Not surprised

  20. Mrs. Peel says:

    They’re both gross.

  21. Sam the Pink says:

At least he’s honest. I have a few friends who worked in the entertainment industry out in California and one thing they ALL mention at some point is how many “celebrities” are closet Republicans – even a fair number who profess to be liberal in public! One lawyer I know said ver directly – “at this end of the day, it’s about money. They might profess to be liberal, but they’re voting conservative because the conservatives make them richer.” Never, ever question what a rich person really wants, above all – to stay rich.

  22. jferber says:

I’ve had a secret crush on Lil Wayne (I know) for the longest. But this ends that. You’ve been had, Lil Wayne. I’ll repeat pre-Mecca Malcolm X on this: he is a blue-eyed devil. Also, from his autobiography: “Did you ever meet a white man who didn’t take something from you or do something to you?” Trump IS that white man, Lil Wayne.

  23. humanhedgehog says:

“and I listen to the thunder – that doesn’t mean I do anything about it”

  24. IncenseBurner says:

He is the most disgusting individual.

  25. ME says:

It’s all about MONEY. A lot of rich people like Trump’s tax breaks. They don’t care about anything else. F*ck them all.

  26. holly hobby says:

Brett Favre Jay Cutler and Jack Nicolaus just ate the Rump Roast too. Disappointing but not surprising. These people would leave the rest of us to die so they can go hug their millions.

  27. Denny says:

Just came here to question the ‘cult of personality’ line about Bernie Sanders AND Trump in the same breath. Not the same thing, like at all.

But re: everything else, totally agree.

  28. Delphine says:

I just discovered a rapper/hip hop artist named Phora. His music is the opposite of braggadocio. He raps about his mental health issues and seems pretty down to earth. He started out as a teenager in Anaheim passing out his tapes. Here’s his new collaboration with Jhené Aiko. It’s so beautiful I’ve had it on repeat.

As for the election, I realized in 2016 that a LOT of the people I know are not as smart as they think they are.

  29. Tina M McAllister says:

Like I’d take advice from someone that’s died five times from drinking sizzurp.

  30. Caty Page says:

Trump is known for always keeping his word and would never issue empty promises. Just look at the giant wall– oh, wait…

I get reaching across the aisle. But reaching across the aisle to a man who refuses to denounce white supremacy, thinking he’ll follow through and care for your community?
    That is stunningly naive.

I have a bridge to sell you, dude.

  31. Mignionette says:

I have a theory that a lot of these rappers capping for Trump are actually striking tax deals in the background.

Nothing else makes sense. They are literally supporting and upholding white supremacy whilst rapping about how white supremacy has affected their lives, so this must be about the bottom line.

  32. Well-Wisher says:

I love the response from the intended audience. It gave me hope. The Wayne person will vote his Interest as the rest of young, black Americans. I suspect that black folks who will vote for Trump will have done so regardless of this endorsement. This celebrity is simply empty materialism and calories.

Clearly black America is not monolithic but this obvious tactic of voter suppression has to fail for the sake of the republic.

This new civil rights movement has no leader. It is no longer shepherd and/nor sheep, not biblical. All for the good once the young do not ignore 400 years of history, they will be fine without the lil waynes of this world.

Be optimistic, pragmatic and vote like your life depends on it.

  33. Likeyoucare says:

Why when i look at the picture i see a man and a drug dealer. The drug dealer is in the suit and the pusher … well ..see it yourself.

  34. Daphne says:

This one hurt. I adore Weezy. I thought it was an Onion article when I saw the news. Good God. Is it just the tax breaks for the rich and promise of more for the rich? That is the only explanation I can devise. Weezy is not dumb in terms of intelligence.

    • Lanie says:

      Umm… yeah, he is.

But yes, proximity to wealth will make some weak people turn on their own brethren.

Plus all those years of abusing lean.

And years of mysogynoir. If you want to get a true glimpse of how a black man really feels about black peoples, look at how he treats/speaks about black women darker than a paper bag. Weezy. Kanye. Fitty. Cube. All trash. All greedy. All who. All clout chasers.

      • Alex says:

Are they “trash?” They came from nothing to become very successful- not sure endorsing Trump automatically makes them trash.

  35. Alex says:

That’s the fourth prominent/famous African American to endorse trump
