SCOTUS rejected Donald Trump’s attempt to steal the election, hahahaha

President Trump Holds a News Conference

Last week, seventeen states’ attorneys general filed a lawsuit saying that votes should be thrown out in states like Pennsylvania and Georgia. The suit was headed up by the massively corrupt Texas AG, and the suit was basically like… all of these horrible MAGA states telling other states that their votes shouldn’t count. It was insane, unconstitutional, illegal and profoundly stupid. Well, they tried. And they failed, as the Supreme Court tossed the case:

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a lawsuit by Texas that had asked the court to throw out the election results in four battleground states that President Trump lost in November, ending any prospect that a brazen attempt to use the courts to reverse his defeat at the polls would succeed. The court, in a brief unsigned order, said Texas lacked standing to pursue the case, saying it “has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections.”

The order, coupled with another one on Tuesday turning away a similar request from Pennsylvania Republicans, signaled that a conservative court with three justices appointed by Mr. Trump refused to be drawn into the extraordinary effort by the president and many prominent members of his party to deny his Democratic opponent, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., his victory. It was the latest and most significant setback for Mr. Trump in a litigation campaign that was rejected by courts at every turn.

Texas’ lawsuit, filed directly in the Supreme Court, challenged election procedures in four states: Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. It asked the court to bar those states from casting their electoral votes for Mr. Biden and to shift the selection of electors to the states’ legislatures. That would have required the justices to throw out millions of votes. Mr. Trump has said he expected to prevail in the Supreme Court, after rushing the confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett in October in part in the hope that she would vote in Mr. Trump’s favor in election disputes.

[From The NY Times]

It’s depressing to think about what would have happened if there was even a whiff of legitimacy to any of the legal arguments being made by Team Trump. You know what I mean? If there was a legitimate question about certain ballots or even some qualms about disenfranchisement, what would have happened if SCOTUS had decided to actually hear arguments? Yeah, I don’t want to think about it. Because the truth is, Trump never had a case.

Of course that’s not all – before SCOTUS rejected this, 126 MAGA Republicans in Congress decided to sign up for a rejection of the election results. Those 126 Congressmen would have been happy to install Trump as dictator for life. They would have been happy disenfranchising the votes of more than 80 million Americans. We spent the last five weeks witnessing the losing side throw a massive tantrum and try to subvert everything about the democratic process and the Constitution just because they were BIG MAD that they lost. That’s it. That’s all it was about.

And now MAGA Republicans are talking about “seceding” too. This is sedition and treason.

You’ll never guess who spent hours on Friday and Saturday throwing massive tantrums on Twitter.

They only view votes for Trump as being legal. That’s how far the delusion has sunk, that no one could possibly, legitimately, legally voted against Trump. In their mind, 81+ million people didn’t vote for Biden. Those were 81+ million votes that were originally meant for Trump but were changed, or added after the fact.

    This is cultish behavior.

    • Esmom says:

It’s really crazy. It’s like claiming you won a football or basketball game because you were ahead at one point, or because the other teams points shouldn’t count. I honesty don’t see how we will get back to a reasonable place anytime soon, discourse-wise. I mean 120+ elected officials, plus those AGs, are okay with this. It’s scary af.

      • Agirlandherdog says:

I’d say it’s more like claiming the other team’s points don’t count because the players were black…

    • Jellybean says:

America, you are looking worse all the time. Trump and his minions are one thing. The right wing thugs taking to the streets and planning acts of domestic terrorism – well that was the obvious outcome years ago. BUT, the number of repbulicans signing up to this legal action is horrifying. It goes so far beyond just placating the orange baby. You guys are screwed for the forseeable future.

  2. Lawcatb says:

When I first read about the TX lawsuit, I immediately commented to my husband, how can TX possibly have standing to bring suit about elections in other states? He just laughed and shook his head. These are first year, first semester law school basics. Which means either all of Trumps “legal experts” don’t understand the most fundamental principles of civil procedure, or, more likely, this is all just designed to cause chaos and pander to his base.

    • Jellybean says:

Or more likely, so the Texas AG can get a pardon. He is currently under investigation and I would be be genuinely surprised if he doesn’t get a broad pardon before January.

    • AnnaKist says:

It’s likely that trump’s legal people have told him of the futility of all his frivolous legal challenges. But trump has no use for the word “no”. Who knows, they probably think. “Ah, stuff it. He’s racking up the bill, so we’ll issue all the challenges he wants.” It will be interesting to see if they end up suing him for non-payment of legal bills. He’s always been dodgy, and the only thing that’s changed is that he became President. He’s still dodgy.
I’m going to be optimistic for America. In a few weeks, trump will be out on his arse. The new administration will clean up whatever mess he’ll make between now and then, and he’ll either slither away and lay low to lick his wounds and stroke his big … ego, or he’ll continue to carry on like the moron he is – making a lot of noise, but like his 2020 campaign, getting nowhere.

    • Sparky says:

Not only is the question of standing basic Civil Procedure (as others have mentioned a required first year law school class) but allowing such a suit would have created precedent that would have inundated the SCOTUS with nonsense cases. Thus, even if they were willing to ignore basic procedural issues to appease Trump, big picture they just couldn’t

  3. Juls says:

Threats of leaving the Union? Really? Good luck convincing your residents when they realize they will be cut off from all federal funds and programs.

    • Seraphina says:

Exactly this. State agencies have people in place closing watching what the Feds pass and do not pass so they can snatch that money up. Go ahead and leave – it will leave more money for other states. Virginia could sure use some new schools and older schools to be renovated, broadband money and roads to be not only repaired but expanded. And that’s just to name a few.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

BLUE states are propping up ALL of the Red states, you know…the ones MOST of these 126 idiots “claim” to represent. Good.. you want to leave? Separate states, sure… go for it. Go take Alaska, with Sarah Palin. You can see Russia from your porches. I’ll be glad to put Canada between us and them.

THIS Californian will be glad to see you go, and to keep more of our tax dollars IN STATE to help OUR residents who need it, instead of propping up your ignorant, sorry, orange-red asses!

THIS Californian will be glad to see you go, and to keep more of our tax dollars IN STATE to help OUR residents who need it, instead of propping up your ignorant, sorry, orange-red asses!

      • minx says:

Same from this blue stater. Go, concede, and don’t ask for my money.

    • LightPurple says:

And covering unemployment and other needs for your state residents who are federal employees who will lose their jobs and the state employees who work on administering those federally funded programs. And the Postal Service and any military installations. They also won’t be getting the vaccine or have trade agreements with any other countries.

    • Lucky Charm says:

Good, let them leave. We’ll have more FEMA money available when we don’t need to send any to them for their hurricane and flood relief.

  4. Seraphina says:

When I first heard this would go to the SC, I thought that if SCOTUS takes it on and sides with Trump – after the popular vote and electoral went to Biden, after Trump properly laid foundation to be able to scream FRAUD and after the lower courts judged against him – it would be anarchy in the streets. It would send the US into an abyss that we could not recover from amid fighting a pandemic.
And Texas, the Lone Star state that stands for states’ rights, yet wants to tell other states how to conduct elections or pass judgment on them. The hypocrisy is just to mind boggling.
And for those that signed up for the rejection of election, 126 elected officials, they should be removed from public office. And I believe someone in congress, a democrat, already brought this to the table under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. https://www.politicususa.com/2020/12/11/democrats-refuse-to-seat-126-republicans.html

    • Esmom says:

I gotta believe that Trump’s justices definitely knew that all hell would break loose if they in any way entertained this nonsense. I am relieved that they cleared the low benchmark here.

Of course the MAGAs now think they are Barr are “deep state.” I saw someone on Twitter insisting that Chief Justice Roberts is part of the whole Jeffrey Epstein cabal. Sigh.

      • Cassandra says:

How on earth can people believe in something so convoluted? This is insane

      • Seraphina says:

I applaud all nine justices. Trump was counting on them to push this in his direction. Even the Penn appeals judge (appointed by him) shut him down. I LOVE how they gave him the boot. He really thought this was going to go his way. Which makes it all the more WONDERFUL. And instead of focusing on the PANDEMIC, we have the Lame Duck and his minions trying to push this stupidity.

      • clomo says:

Here’s a crazy bit of trivia, Barr’s father was a dean of a exclusive private NYC school that gave Epstein his first job there that got him the contacts that launched him into the stratosphere. I don’t think Barr’s dad knew about JE’s propensities way back then, please no. Weird connection though.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I believe there IS precedent (in the constitution) that would allow Pelosi to REFUSE to seat them. They are preaching sedition! They truly *are* “enemies of the People/Democracy; they should be tried and jailed (if not hanged) for treason..

      • H says:

No, no hanging. Send them home in shame to be unemployable and live off unemployment (expiring soon, thanks Congress). I wrote my idiot congressman who signed on for that nonsense and I’ll be calling his office tomorrow.

      • holly hobby says:

Yes some congressman appealed to Pelosi to refuse to seat the 100+ traitors. I think she should do that. However I doubt it will happen. I don’t think Nancy plays hardball with these fools.

If the election was “illegitimate” then those 100+ were illegally elected too. On the same piece of paper!

  5. grabbyhands says:

He really isn’t going to be happy until he’s gotten someone killed, is he? He’s not going to stop until he’s forced to leave and then he’ll keep screaming “fire!!!” until he’s pushed these lunatics into making good on their threats to hurt one of his perceived enemies.

It is more than a month since the election and no one has been allowed to enjoy it. I’m still stressed and worried and frankly, I’m pissed as hell that this continues to be allowed like it is a normal thing to do. Every single one of those 126 people needs to be charged with sedition and treason because that’s what they did – end of. I’m so fucking sick of hearing the soft ball approach being taken not only by the right, which is zero surprise, but also by the left, which is still just essentially wagging their finger and trying to shame people into falling in line.

We may never recover from the amount of damage this monster continues to inflict on our democracy.

    • petee says:

      grabbyhands well said.

    • smlstrs says:

We’re so past getting people killed – including Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and others killed in the streets, all the people from covid and covid adjacent causes, and that’s JUST domestic citizen deaths in 2020…

  6. Leah says:

I laughed at all the crying his supporters were doing. They are not used to being told no or losing so it was hilarious to watch. Now his supporters are turning on the GOP, and like a snake who eats his own tail the party will hopefully be damaged beyond repair. They aren’t the party of family values, they are a corrupt, dangerous group of traitors. I am hoping this eat their own mentality impacts the GA senate race and a lot of the republicans won’t vote.

On Monday, the electoral college votes and that’s all folks. Lol.

  7. Busyann says:

The AG just wants a pardon from Trump. That explains him, but how on earth can those other 120+ House members can back this is beyond. Republicans think they can do whatever they want, and mark my words, after January 20th they’ll start twisting their words and saying they didnt mean it, and yada yada yada. Democrats will not forget this. Never forget!

Also, I hope Dems are prepared to have massive election turnout for every election going forward. There can never be a close race again. If the Republicans tried it when Biden had a landslide, they might actually get away with it if any future election is close. And like I always say….Trump isnt the only one out there. There are others like him that may not be as stupid.

    • Nic919 says:

The GOP who supported this are doing it because they believe they need to be seen as supporting dump or else they will get primaried. They know it’s bs but the control that orange clown has over the base is crazy.

At some point Cruz and co need to let the various state AGs investigating that family in detail because that grifter clan is not going away unless put away.

      • Seraphina says:

@Nic919, what you write is absolutely true and the GOP will implode if they don’t rally to have him and family put away. It’s time to pull up those pants, man up and be a man. They lost. Regroup and find a way to have him brought down to nothing and then rebuild the GOP image.
I have a friend that is die hard GOP and would support Trump, she has become very soured with all the antics and lack of evidence. I thin many who will be to turn and I pray that happens in Georgia in January. That would make up for the shit show of 2020: a vaccine out on the street, with more to come and Georgia going blue.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

They are discussing this right now, on CNN, saying that the base has aligned SO CLOSELY to the Moldy Orange, that anyone NOT aligning themselves WITH HIM (not the GOP, but HIM) will be thrown out. At the rally yesterday, the crowds were shouting down Perdue and Loeffler (however she spells it; don’t care enough to look it up) yelling: “Support Trump” or some such shit at those two!

So the GOP is getting the message, if we don’t get behind him (no matter HOW foolish), they will be primaried out.

      • holly hobby says:

Oh don’t worry. Lincoln Project took that list and will primary those GOPer traitors come midterms. They are steaming mad that those traitors signed on to that fruitless lawsuit.

  8. Lightpurple says:

Trump wasn’t paying attention. The ONLY question of law Jesse Barrett’s puppet got right during her Senate confirmation hearing was the definition of “standing.” John Corryn all but patted her on the head for it. I loathe both Alito and Thomas but I love that they both said they would allow the case to go forward procedurally but would then deny all relief – meaning the case has no substance either!

Pelosi has to deal with the sedition in the House. I’m not sure I agree with the “don’t seat them all” approach because it would cause way too much disruption at a time when they need to move quickly to fix our country but maybe threaten not to seat them unless they change leadership. McCarthy is an idiot and Scalise does nothing but disrupt and cause trouble.

  9. Snuffles says:

The right is eating itself. I’m of the opinion that those Congressmen that signed on to the bogus lawsuit did it to appeal to Trump’s MAGATs. Because now that a lot of Republican judges have rebuffed all of Trump’s attempts to overturn the election, they are turning against the Republican Party. They were in DC last night chanting “Destroy the GOP!” And those Parler nut jobs are doing the same.

The Republicans like Mitch McConnell who thought they could use Trump as a means to further their own agendas are having their machinations blowing up in their faces.

    • Seraphina says:

I too think they are imploding, slowly, but they are imploding. I also think the GOP – Mitch in particular – may have thought he could control Trump but underestimated the ego Trump has. And that is proving to be their downfall.

    • Josie Bean says:

The MAGAT’s were shouting “Destroy the GOP”?????? I had no idea how much I had in common with them.

  10. Elizabeth says:

The Republicans used Trump. They are playing the long, long game. They got their control of the judiciary, which is going to brutalize this country for a generation.

I did think Kavanaugh and Barrett were specifically chosen to swing the election for him, so I am amazed they didn’t. I’m sure though if there had been any excuse they would have. It is only thanks to the Democratic voters and organizers who worked tirelessly to achieve the margins we got that the corrupt Supremes can’t find an excuse to step in.

This was a huge victory on the presidential level. Unseating an incumbent by seven million votes is a landmark rejection.

And Trump continues to be an idiot and Tweet like a third-grader. Apologies to third-graders.

    • holly hobby says:

At the end of the day SCOTUS is filled with attorneys. They know how the law works. Plus loyalty is out the window once they get lifetime appointments. Moldy Orange underestimated that.

  11. FancyPants says:

Countdown to Babyfingers trying to sue the Supreme Court in 3… 2… 1…

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Yes, in his warped mind, he’s going to sue SCOTUS and take them to the SUPREME SCOTUS! He IS THAT idiotic.

  12. aquarius64 says:

The 126 congressional knuckleheads that signed on to this steamy pile of a “lawsuit” also signed their political death warrants. They forget 81 million plus, 7 million more than Emperor Zero got, voted to fire this moron. Trump lost his job due to incompetence and whipping up division and violence. They shouldn’t assume they wouldn’t face the same fate in 2022 or 2024 (see GA and AZ).

    • Mandy says:

The 126 who signed would not have unless they felt they were in completely safe republican areas. There is no way Mo Brooks as one example will lose in Alabama. He thinks the seas levels are rising because of big rocks falling in the ocean. His voters know this and don’t care. These guys are doing what they feel they need to do to survive against the crazies they have created. The Republicans party had spent decades creating all these people they thought they could control. They didn’t expect someone like Trump to come in and take over.

      • holly hobby says:

Lincoln Project is going to go after them. They are most likely going to promote a sane GOPer to primary the current losers/traitors.

  13. Coco says:

Looks like Donnie’s been having a lot of late nights.
Do you think he’s still on the steroids, just a lower dose so he doesn’t seem quite as intoxicated?

  14. Rapunzel says:

At this point, Trump himself could say he got new intel that proves the election was 100% legitimate, and his base would say “He’s been bought off by Soros and is part of the deep state”

Trump and the GOP don’t control his base anymore. They created a monster. These folks will believe anything that justifies their fantasies of persecution and paranoia. Trump only leads them cause he says what they want to hear. The GOP isn’t scared of and catering to Trump. They are scared of and catering to these lunatic supporters of him. Without these nutters, they are powerless.

    • Josie Bean says:

But I think Trump knows what the MAGAts want to hear and he will continue to feed them and give them what they want. Plus he has to keep them onboard so that they will continue with their generous donations to him. But the GOP, yes, they have created a monster and that monster has done a hell of a lot of damage to the country. I always considered the GOP to be heartless, now I believe they are heartless and downright destructive.

  15. Digital Unicorn says:

He is planning on burning the whole country down and as others have said he is not going to be happy until he’s started a bloody civil war – apparently the leader of the Proud Boys visited the White House yesterday. He is def planning something with them – I would not be surprised if he encourages them to pull a violent stunt at Joe’s inauguration.

    • Seraphina says:

I hope he makes a grave and gross miscalculation on what he can get away with and then be able to go after him with a bogger crime.

  16. Liz version 700 says:

I am so glad the Biden/Harris Inauguration is virtual. That is without a doubt the safest way to go for Covid and for their safety this year.

  17. JustMe says:

I tried to talk to my sister, a Trump supporter, about my disgust about what Texas was trying to do. She did not ask me anything about what it was about but instantly the first word she said was Obama! Then Bush and rioting with fires, huge fires, many fires caused by democrat supporters reacting to previous elections way back when!?! Unbelievable! It was mind boggling! Not only did she drink the MAGAT Kool-aid the first time, but went for a refill and is now drinking it a third time!
I was stunned into silence and simply said a gracious good bye while reeling that conversation ever happened!

  18. Jo73c says:

All I’m saying is that would it be so bad to calve off from say Texas to Florida, call it MAGA-land and let all those f*wits go live there? They could build a nice wall around it and happily worship their orange god to their hearts’ content.
