Rebecca English at the Daily Mail got her marching orders from the palace, that much was clear. But as soon as 2021 dawned, I was surprised to see that other royal commentators and royal reporters crawled out from under the rocks to chime in on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Perhaps they were triggered by Harry and Meghan launching their substantive update to Archewell and sending a clear message that they are building their lives away from the toxicity. But as I read these quotes from “royal expert” Angela Levin, it finally dawned on me. We’re at the start of yet another coordinated smear campaign against Harry & Meghan. By now, I can recognize a smear campaign when it ramps up – when it happened in the fall of 2018, I was confused about where it was coming from and why. Now I know. Clarence House, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace are all in lockstep and they’ve coordinated yet another hate campaign against the Sussexes. You can tell because Becky English, Phil Dampier and Angela Levin all got the same talking points. I assume Ingrid Seward, Dan Wootton and Richard Palmer will be doing similar stories in the coming days.
The Duke of Sussex has ‘discarded life as an action man to become an airy-fairy do-gooder’ with a ‘woke West Coast life’, a royal biographer has claimed. Royal expert Angela Levin, who wrote Harry: Conversations with the Prince in 2018, has claimed that the Duke has become a ‘shadow of his former self’ since moving to California.
Writing in The Sunday Telegraph, she said while Prince Harry ‘balked at being “the spare” to Prince William, he seems to accept being second to Meghan’.
The biographer said Prince Harry’s recent appearances were ‘out of character’ from the royal she once knew, who would instantly identify with everyone he spoke to. She referenced his previous work with Help for Heroes, those with disabilities and teenagers from dysfunctional homes – but said it feels like a distant memory compared with the version of the prince she sees today.
The biographer also referenced this year’s Remembrance Day, when Harry and Meghan celebrated by visiting the Los Angeles National cemetery to pay their respects to fallen Commonwealth soldiers. The couple were slammed for arranging for celebrity fashion photographer Lee Morgan to capture their personal act of Remembrance, with many branding the visit as a ‘publicity stunt’.
Angela said Harry in particular would have been a great source of comfort to Brits during the Covid pandemic, but felt regret that he’s been hidden away in Santa Barbara throughout the pandemic. Yet she commented that reports the pair want a 12-month extension to the Megxit deal indicate the Duke is missing ‘all the privileges’ of being a royal, including his honorary military titles and charity work. She said: ‘Perhaps he just realises that royalty is forever, but celebrity is not.’
Imagine being so out-of-touch that you believe only *royals* can honor military service or do charity work. Harry and Meghan have made it clear that they don’t need HRHs to do the kind of work they want to do, and the Queen has made it clear that she’s a petty, tone-deaf a–hole who would rather smear and bully her veteran grandson than honor HIS service. As for Harry being “second” to Meghan… yeesh, we get it, these nasty old bitties are toxic masculinity’s happy warriors, gleefully emasculating Harry because he… loves his wife and has a marriage of equals, I guess. Pathetic people are pathetic and talking points were definitely handed down from the palace. It’s horrible to know that the Queen, Charles and William likely signed off on this coordinated campaign.

But re: the “forever” word — I think the monarchy will end during William’s lifetime. It’s outdated and has no place in the modern world, other than as a reminder to white people that they once had an empire that “ruled” people of color. But two hundred years from now, who will people remember? Probably QEII, simply because she was on the throne for so long. But will anyone care about Charles’s reign? Or William’s? Probably not, unless it’s to remark that the monarchy “died” during William’s reign. However, Harry has a real chance of being remembered, as Paul Newman is still remembered, through his charities. If Archewell takes off the way “Newman’s Own” did, then Harry and Meghan will be remembered long after their deaths — ironically, longer than William or Charles will be remembered.
Old monarchies like the British one have an inbuilt inertia that shouldn’t be discounted and historically monarchies have only fallen as a result or in the wake of violent upheavals. No monarchy has been abolished by democratic mean!
Furthermore in practical and legal terms, the British monarchy will be much more difficult to abolish because there isn’t really a written constitution but rather a set of rules and precedents. Not to mention the way to the public and private wealth of the BRF seem to be somewhat ambiguous. Abolishing the monarchy in Britain will be a complicated, expensive and drawn out affair because the BRF will certainly fight this tooth and nail in the legal arena. Additionally, the political and social elite doesn’t seem to have any interest in abolishing the monarchy because they have a vested interest in upholding the classism that underpins British society. Finally, the public is not against the monarchy per see and while they might not have the deep and abiding respect that the royals like to think they have, the public are rather apathetic about the intuition, which is a symptom of the inbuilt inertia that I spoke about at the top.
So, in short, do count on the British monarchy to be abolished in our lifetime or in William or George’s lifetime. The most likely monarchy to be abolished in this century is the Spanish one.

You have a great point. Many monarchies are gone and forgotten. Some celebrities are still famous years after their death like Elvis. Celebrities who support charities could do nothing else and still retain fame. Dolly Parton could cease public appearances and people would still be fascinated. The French and the Russian royals would like a word. Most royal families are not paid any attention to, except by their subjects and even then, probably the majority don’t care much for them. Let’s compare TQ with another Elizabeth, also British born, around the same age, and also famous from the time she was a young child – Taylor.
Like Liz TQ, Liz Taylor lived in nice houses, had an astonishing jewelry collection, dabbled in private enterprise (perfume vs. TQ gin), was involved in public service by virtue of her humanitarian work as an AIDS activist. And people clamored to see her wherever she went. TQ’s face may be on the money and the tea towels, Elizabeth Taylor’s movies are still in rotation. Still well known, and she’s no longer with us. So, royalty vs celebrity, same difference.
As far Harry being “out of character’ from the royal Levin once knew, well of course. She hangs around the RF, where people either never grow up (William) or never learn from their mistakes as they get older (Charles, TQ). Harry has done both, so she doesn’t recognize the person she thinks she once ‘knew’.
I find Levin rather creepy when it comes to her comments about Harry. She may have interviewed him once but that doesn’t mean that she knew him. She comes across as a delusional stalker – more than any other of the royal reporters.

The term “fairy” might not be in wide circulation as a derogatory name for gay men these days, but it was when I was a kid and it’s for sure intentional here. She’s not implying he’s gay, but that he has become less masculine and has had his privates chopped by Meghan. The guy is a veteran who served in wartime. The fact that he loves his wife and wants her and his kid away from the abuse they were getting makes him more of a man, not less of one.
I don’t doubt that the move has been hard on him. Moving to a new country is stressful, and the pandemic and miscarriage didn’t help. But does that mean he regrets his decision? No. The tough transition is worth it, and they are thriving now.

I think the BRF is so threatened by Harry and Meghan because it is quite clear that the old way of doing things is entirely unnecessary for success. In fact, Meghan and Harry have shown that they can be even more impactful without the firm (and its tax burden to the British people).
Also, the Sussex’s transparency might lead one to question the actual work vs money / lifestyle of the firm. How impactful, honestly, was Kate’s survey? Has the ribbon cutting earned the lavish estates and tax payer funded wardrobe?

If Harry & Meghan weren’t a threat to the monarchy, we wouldn’t see these continued smears against them. H&M have shown that it is possible to thrive without the public dole and titles. H&M have shown the world that royalty is fleeting and that their popularity is not tied to being in the BRF. That’s a problem for folks, like William, who has the personality and warmth of a dead fish. He’s used to people liking him because of his future status and not from any effort on his part to being a decent person.

One thing that is never acknowledged is that Harry probably has grieved the loss of his family and his sheltered privileged life. He’s known nothing else. He also now lives in a completely different country and did all of this as a newlywed during a pandemic. Yes, I’m sure he has struggled. Who wouldn’t? And he has admitted mental health issues in the past so it is logical to think this adjustment has been very difficult for him.
I think they had some ideas of what they would do but the pandemic happened and slowed things up. He also worked very closely with many organizations that he’s no longer allowed to participate with. And they essentially stripped him of his military titles that weren’t just given to him like others in his family but earned.
Of course he is grieving and could very well seem very different than what everyone is accustomed to seeing. That’s real. Of course his wife is there to help him but let’s acknowledge his losses and allow him to grieve and find his place in the world in his new life.
100% on this. I was forced out of my family ten years ago by a family of bitter, petty and jealous fools, such as this family. I was told to submit or leave, or face consequences. The consequences were evil. And I left. With my own little family in tow. And I grieved the realization that I was an orphan at that moment. And went in to therapy. A few years ago, I came around due to a parent’s illness, and unfortunately, the same exact behavior from said family, and also towards my one son made me realize that being born in to a family doesn’t mean that they love you, they respect you, they just want you to play a role that they created for you, gasllight you and sabotage everything you do, to extended family … this shit goes on.
I can totally relate to this. Harry tried. I believe he tried. Him being angry at the treatment of the person he chose to marry being treated like shit from his family, his sibling being jealous, being petty, being shady and then acting entitled, it won’t end because HE chose to break the pattern. And now William is going blue in the noggin trying to tell the world otherwise with these incandescent with ignorance articles. I’m sure Harry’s in therapy. I am sure he is sitting and stewing when new shit comes out of the tabloids, but it gets easier to laugh it off, and then one day you can’t believe that you ever came from that family of twats, that you are healthier and stronger than ever before.

I appreciate your attempt at empathy Detnow but Harry “lost” his family long before he left the UK. From the moment he started getting serious about Meghan his family has been on his back. The smear campaign started as soon as Meghan was pregnant and probably before that. So what you think is “grief” is probably relief at getting out of that hell hole. Any grief he felt started with the shocking way his family has treated his wife and son. Claiming they “ miss Archie so much” through the press but absolute silence when he’s compared to a chimp. As for missing his country, he has a home he can go back to at any time if he chooses.
I think Harry still has the medals that he earned in his military career. He just doesn’t have any of the extra Queen’s honorary medals. For example, look at Anne and all the medals she wears. I don’t think she has the military career that Harry had.
Yes. I’m sure he grieved/is grieving that loss but I think he is in a stronger position, because any military association is actually earned. I mean Kate got a military medal for basically not going HAM on Rose but Harry has a program with the Ministry of Defense for the inclusion of mental fitness in military training.
That program truly is a lasting legacy he should be proud of. Harry will find other ways to honor his military service and fellow servicemen outside the pomp and ceremonies, and like a lot of veterans will have to adjust to civilian life. Sad for him but this is beyond his control.

Harry left the army in 2015 after 10 years of service. He met his wife in 2016. During that brief, roughly one-year period of trying to acclimate back into the faux “duty” world used-by-the-royals-to-cover-their-decades-of-grift, which he had loooooooong grown away from, he had high anxiety…..he’s spoken about that period. So meeting Meghan, getting married, navigating a smear campaign orchestrated by his relatives, setting up house, having a baby, moving to a new country and doing it all over, he has had no time or inclination to “miss” something he never really had since his parents divorce, that is, a stable family life.
Just think, after the death of his mother when he was 12 years old, he lived a mostly peripatetic life, being taken care of by a nanny and with relatives. Until he reached the, ironically, safe haven of the army. Could you see yourself living like that? Now he has his own family.

Both he and Meghan have faced unbelievable pressures since they got together. Relocating to different countries, changing ‘jobs’, outrageously aggressive negativity from BOTH their families, reinventing themselves, the baying of the press hounds, the loss of a child…..it just goes on and on. I think they are both amazing. Hopefully, they are both staying in touch with therapeutic counselors to keep them on an even keel. And there is nothing weak about that if they are!
Well what comes to mind is the old saying “revenge is a dish best served cold” and Harry and Meghan will continue to do their good work, be successful and diplomatically give all those old farts the middle finger.

I’m rolling my eyes at slamming Harry for being in California when he could have been “a great comfort” to the British people. The vast majority of Brits don’t care one whit, one way or the other, about the Royal Family. And most people get comfort from their own friends and family, not from famous people they don’t know personally.
The Brits made it very clear they wanted the Sussexes gone and resented their taxpayers funding them unless they could get 24hr ArchieCam. I still to this day do not see this level of interest in any of the other royals, not even the little kids, definitely not William. I can’t imagine what fresh hell they’d be going through if they’d stayed in the UK. Every problem would be blamed on them. In some ways it still is because Levin is basically saying that only Harry could have boosted the mood of the UK, not the other royals. I saw someone on Twitter last week saying they missed him but didn’t understand how he could leave after supporting him since he was a baby. Like, really?

But yes. Royalty has been abolished in Italy, Greece, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Russia, a number of African countries (that’s due to colonialism though) and we know that it will be abolished in our lifetime in Thailand because the current King is deeply unpopular with his population with reason.
So it’s not forever.
It wouldn’t be surprised if the Spanish monarchy is abolished in out lifetime as well.

Actually, the English were the first to eject their royals (they were also the first to execute their monarch). However, they invited them back a couple of decades later. France went through a similar development with the crucial difference that none of the royal restorations survived.

WOW this enraged me. When Meghan was a working Royal they complained she worked too hard, was too eager, and demanded too much of her staff. Now that they’re on their own, they’re just “airy-fairy do-gooders” instead of people who take action? I’m quite confident H&M’s social work is far more impactful than anything the Cambridges have tried recently.

I wonder if Levin’s sense of Royalty being forever comes from the strength of the peerage system in the UK. After all, why would it matter who is the Duke, Duchess, Marquess, Earl or Viscount of anything if there is no King, Prince, Queen?
Why do I have a feeling one of the first people Jill Biden will be calling when she gets to the White House is Harry? Her work with war veterans and military families is well-known and her ties to the community are strong thanks to her son Beau’s service. I expect it to be one of the main causes she highlights as First Lady and I would not be surprised to see her partner up with Harry on some initiatives. Wouldn’t that really shock the British media? Seeing one of the members of the BRF going around with one of the most powerful women in the democratic world (not his grandmother). I really hope this happens now that I’ve thought it up! That would make them realize Harry’s star power is here to stay, even when George, Charlotte, and Louis grow up.
Gotta disagree. Not a good look to reach out to a foreign national when there are people here who have done a lot of work with vets when Harry was literally in short pants. Fisher House, Walter Reed, lots of diverse and local organizations.
Jill Biden has already done so much work with Walter Reed and visited several times. It’s not an organization she has neglected by any means. Also Fisher House sponsored the Inivctus Games which were launched by… Prince Harry. Jill Biden has also attended the Invictus Games several times, including when she was Second Lady. Joe Biden has even joked that Jill spends too much time with Harry. My idea didn’t just come from nowhere.
Harry already worked closely with Michelle Obama for her Joining Forces initiative. Jill would be well within her rights as a first lady to partner up with him.

Camilla Tominney, Richard Palmer, Angela Levin -every time I start to say this one is the worst, I’m reminded of more who are just as terrible. Why is it so hard to find someone who is a professional who treats this like a job and not an opportunity to push abuse and hate?
