Angela Levin: Prince Harry ‘realizes that royalty is forever, but celebrity is not’

Britain's Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex attend the 91st Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey in London, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019.

Rebecca English at the Daily Mail got her marching orders from the palace, that much was clear. But as soon as 2021 dawned, I was surprised to see that other royal commentators and royal reporters crawled out from under the rocks to chime in on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Perhaps they were triggered by Harry and Meghan launching their substantive update to Archewell and sending a clear message that they are building their lives away from the toxicity. But as I read these quotes from “royal expert” Angela Levin, it finally dawned on me. We’re at the start of yet another coordinated smear campaign against Harry & Meghan. By now, I can recognize a smear campaign when it ramps up – when it happened in the fall of 2018, I was confused about where it was coming from and why. Now I know. Clarence House, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace are all in lockstep and they’ve coordinated yet another hate campaign against the Sussexes. You can tell because Becky English, Phil Dampier and Angela Levin all got the same talking points. I assume Ingrid Seward, Dan Wootton and Richard Palmer will be doing similar stories in the coming days.

The Duke of Sussex has ‘discarded life as an action man to become an airy-fairy do-gooder’ with a ‘woke West Coast life’, a royal biographer has claimed. Royal expert Angela Levin, who wrote Harry: Conversations with the Prince in 2018, has claimed that the Duke has become a ‘shadow of his former self’ since moving to California.

Writing in The Sunday Telegraph, she said while Prince Harry ‘balked at being “the spare” to Prince William, he seems to accept being second to Meghan’.

The biographer said Prince Harry’s recent appearances were ‘out of character’ from the royal she once knew, who would instantly identify with everyone he spoke to. She referenced his previous work with Help for Heroes, those with disabilities and teenagers from dysfunctional homes – but said it feels like a distant memory compared with the version of the prince she sees today.

The biographer also referenced this year’s Remembrance Day, when Harry and Meghan celebrated by visiting the Los Angeles National cemetery to pay their respects to fallen Commonwealth soldiers. The couple were slammed for arranging for celebrity fashion photographer Lee Morgan to capture their personal act of Remembrance, with many branding the visit as a ‘publicity stunt’.

Angela said Harry in particular would have been a great source of comfort to Brits during the Covid pandemic, but felt regret that he’s been hidden away in Santa Barbara throughout the pandemic. Yet she commented that reports the pair want a 12-month extension to the Megxit deal indicate the Duke is missing ‘all the privileges’ of being a royal, including his honorary military titles and charity work. She said: ‘Perhaps he just realises that royalty is forever, but celebrity is not.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Imagine being so out-of-touch that you believe only *royals* can honor military service or do charity work. Harry and Meghan have made it clear that they don’t need HRHs to do the kind of work they want to do, and the Queen has made it clear that she’s a petty, tone-deaf a–hole who would rather smear and bully her veteran grandson than honor HIS service. As for Harry being “second” to Meghan… yeesh, we get it, these nasty old bitties are toxic masculinity’s happy warriors, gleefully emasculating Harry because he… loves his wife and has a marriage of equals, I guess. Pathetic people are pathetic and talking points were definitely handed down from the palace. It’s horrible to know that the Queen, Charles and William likely signed off on this coordinated campaign.

LMAO. Princess Diana would like a word. Pretty sure she was famous all along.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I think we are in a very prolonged final stage of the BM grief cycle, where the wailing will increase in crescendo as the fortunes of the Sussexes continue to rise and the UK realises that we are stuck with the lemon members of the RF.

      • My Two Cents says:

Yes, Elizabeth, they are striking out in desperation at this point and it’s not pretty. I can only wish that everything that they’ve done to Meghan will come out at one point.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Diana is still more famous than the most members of the BRF, even in death.

    • minx says:

So ridiculous. What is “forever?” We have one life, we should enjoy it while we’re here.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Paul Newman did more for charity than any member of the royal family ever did.

But re: the “forever” word — I think the monarchy will end during William’s lifetime. It’s outdated and has no place in the modern world, other than as a reminder to white people that they once had an empire that “ruled” people of color. But two hundred years from now, who will people remember? Probably QEII, simply because she was on the throne for so long. But will anyone care about Charles’s reign? Or William’s? Probably not, unless it’s to remark that the monarchy “died” during William’s reign. However, Harry has a real chance of being remembered, as Paul Newman is still remembered, through his charities. If Archewell takes off the way “Newman’s Own” did, then Harry and Meghan will be remembered long after their deaths — ironically, longer than William or Charles will be remembered.

      • ArtHistorian says:

Old monarchies like the British one have an inbuilt inertia that shouldn’t be discounted and historically monarchies have only fallen as a result or in the wake of violent upheavals. No monarchy has been abolished by democratic mean!

Furthermore in practical and legal terms, the British monarchy will be much more difficult to abolish because there isn’t really a written constitution but rather a set of rules and precedents. Not to mention the way to the public and private wealth of the BRF seem to be somewhat ambiguous. Abolishing the monarchy in Britain will be a complicated, expensive and drawn out affair because the BRF will certainly fight this tooth and nail in the legal arena. Additionally, the political and social elite doesn’t seem to have any interest in abolishing the monarchy because they have a vested interest in upholding the classism that underpins British society. Finally, the public is not against the monarchy per see and while they might not have the deep and abiding respect that the royals like to think they have, the public are rather apathetic about the intuition, which is a symptom of the inbuilt inertia that I spoke about at the top.

So, in short, do count on the British monarchy to be abolished in our lifetime or in William or George’s lifetime. The most likely monarchy to be abolished in this century is the Spanish one.

      • ArtHistorian says:

Edit to the post above: Don’t expect the British monarchy to be abolished in our lifetime – or even in George’s lifetime.

  2. Sofia says:

This old troll is still on the extension? Even The Times reported that the Sussexes don’t want one.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

She is spouting nonsense for her pension as her biography ended up in the poundland shop.

  3. Snuffles says:

    🙄🙄🙄

There was NEVER a request for an extension. They know it, we know it, anyone with common sense knows it.

I think the goal is to either to get him to change his mind or make him angry enough to renounce every thing. Neither will happen.

But, The Firm is SO stupid that they don’t realize that they are turning Harry and Meghan into legends like Diana at this point. They are just adding to Harry’s lore as the brave Prince who ran away from the monarchy for love and has decided to serve the citizens of the world instead of the royal family.

  4. Isa says:

Hooooold on. Diana is STILL a celebrity 20+ years after her death. Royalty is forever? Tell that to the Glucksburgs. The problem is that the Windsors know their empire is crumbling (literally and figuratively) and they lost assets in Harry and Meghan that could have stemmed the tide.

    • Kitty says:

True. Stans think royalty is better than celebrity, but during this age were in they are all the same. The fact that even celebs didn’t want to work with William a royal and future king should tell you something.

    • equality says:

You have a great point. Many monarchies are gone and forgotten. Some celebrities are still famous years after their death like Elvis. Celebrities who support charities could do nothing else and still retain fame. Dolly Parton could cease public appearances and people would still be fascinated. This woman needs to think before she types.

    • Myra says:

The French and the Russian royals would like a word. Most royal families are not paid any attention to, except by their subjects and even then, probably the majority don’t care much for them. Prior to Meghan, I don’t believe there were many interests in royal stories (maybe I wasn’t paying attention tbf). That had long died down after Diana’s death. Besides, royal news are reported as part of celebrity news because they have no real value in everyday life. except for entertainment.

  5. Bunny says:

Royalty is forever? His mother had HRH stripped away, and that came after Phillip threatening her with the loss of her title.

  6. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Blatant misogynoir. A woman of colour can never be powerful without sinister motives being attached to her and her treatment of others.

  7. Becks1 says:

Royals ARE celebrities. If they weren’t, the Queen wouldn’t feel the need to hold an annual birthday parade in her honor that shuts down streets of London, or to parade into royal ascot, or to host garden parties where she is treated like…..you guessed it….a celebrity.

Maybe this smear campaign will work in the UK, the last one seemed to, but it wont work in the US (where most people don’t read or care about what people like Angela Levin have to say) and it wont work in the rest of the world, and that’s what’s actually killing the british press and the royal family right now. Will and Kate did get US coverage for their blatant breaking of COVID rules in December, but they didn’t get coverage for anything else. Harry and Meghan breathe and it gets covered here. They are the international superstars now, and its killing the cambridges.

    • windyriver says:

Let’s compare TQ with another Elizabeth, also British born, around the same age, and also famous from the time she was a young child – Taylor.

Like Liz TQ, Liz Taylor lived in nice houses, had an astonishing jewelry collection, dabbled in private enterprise (perfume vs. TQ gin), was involved in public service by virtue of her humanitarian work as an AIDS activist. And people clamored to see her wherever she went. TQ’s face may be on the money and the tea towels, Elizabeth Taylor’s movies are still in rotation. Still well known, and she’s no longer with us. So, royalty vs celebrity, same difference.

As far Harry being “out of character’ from the royal Levin once knew, well of course. She hangs around the RF, where people either never grow up (William) or never learn from their mistakes as they get older (Charles, TQ). Harry has done both, so she doesn’t recognize the person she thinks she once ‘knew’.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I find Levin rather creepy when it comes to her comments about Harry. She may have interviewed him once but that doesn’t mean that she knew him. She comes across as a delusional stalker – more than any other of the royal reporters.

      • windyriver says:

@ArtHistorian – only know she interviewed him once, plus an article or two, via this site. Not much else, and it sounds like I’m better off if it stays that way!

      • I agree ArtHistorian — Levin comes across to me as a low level stalker. She always spouts off as if she had a deeply personal relationship with Harry and is privy to ever single thought he will ever have. She be a bit scary! As to all the other 🐀 Quackers, I so agree with everything Kaiser has said above, this is a coordinated attack by the 3 Houses of BP, KP, and CH. Why can’t they just leave the Sussexes alone? Nasty, nasty, nasty. Are they really so out of touch and their PR teams so incompetent that they actually think this makes them look regal? Meanwhile, the Sussexes stay silent and smart.

And one final comment: Wouldn’t it be nice if these 🐀 Quackers stopped talking about the ‘no longer relevant’ Sussexes and expended a little bit of their energy on Andrew, a disgusting specimen of a man who actually has done something to dishonor his heritage!

    • Nic919 says:

Royals are the original celebrities because their lives have been commented upon for centuries. It’s delusional to think they have any other value.

    • Nyro says:

Not only are they celebrities, but they’re basically D-lister reality show types. No talent to speak of just a messy gossip factory, famous for being famous. The Kardahians but without the good business sense, family loyalty, and Instagram inspired glamour.

      • Carrie says:

Absolutely spot on comment. They are definitely D list celebrities as they bring Nothing to the table. No special talents or expertise yet the Kardashians get slammed for the same thing!!!

      • GuestwithCat says:

Oh Nyro, burrrrrnnnn! And now that I see it, I can’t unsee it. You’re absolutely right.

  8. OriginalLala says:

This is all so effing gross, the BRF should be embarrassed at their behavior.

  9. Mina_Esq says:

Wait…when did being a do-gooder and a supportive husband become negative attributes?

    • Noodle says:

@mina_esq, and being “locked away” in his home as he was FOLLOWING THE MANDATES of the area in which he lived. The “airy-fairy do-gooder” is a new one to me, but I love that out of one side of her mouth she’s saying he’s not doing anything because he’s locked away, and out the other side he’s an airy-fairy do-gooder, which indicates he IS doing something (just not what she wants him to do). So which is it!?!

      • Ann says:

The term “fairy” might not be in wide circulation as a derogatory name for gay men these days, but it was when I was a kid and it’s for sure intentional here. She’s not implying he’s gay, but that he has become less masculine and has had his privates chopped by Meghan. The guy is a veteran who served in wartime. The fact that he loves his wife and wants her and his kid away from the abuse they were getting makes him more of a man, not less of one.

I don’t doubt that the move has been hard on him. Moving to a new country is stressful, and the pandemic and miscarriage didn’t help. But does that mean he regrets his decision? No. The tough transition is worth it, and they are thriving now.

      • MsIam says:

Airy-fairy stuff do-gooder stuff like Sentabale or Invictus? Seems like he was an “action man” when he did those projects but now it’s all “ wrong, wrong, wrong!”. Angela Levin deserves a special seat in hell for her nonsense, right along with Piss Morgan and Dan Rotten.

      • Noodle says:

@ann, I totally agree that the “airy-fairy do-gooder” had definite tones of emasculation. I love that William is held up as this great, hands-on family MAN, but Harry, for standing up for his family and walking away from toxic abuse, is somehow less of a man.

@msIam, seriously. The thing is, I don’t think he took on those projects as some way for him to express his masculinity. He did it because he saw a need in a community with which he felt close bonds and a strong need. He’s not a man who has to flex his manliness just to maintain that image. He is a strong, brave man, who is passionate about both justice and his family. Eff him for having principles.

    • Deering24 says:

And what the heck is an “action man?”

    • Nic919 says:

When doing a super spreader event across country for an ego boost is viewed as a smart thing to do. Or promoting pubs which helped spread the UK based faster spreading variant. That’s action to make everyone covid positive!

  10. Seraphina says:

He is also learning that his family, the BRF, is not forever – taught that by his own grandmother, father and brother.

  11. 809Matriarch says:

This smear campaign is tragic. Tragic! Tragic!
It boggles the mind that the press and the RF believe the constant slander and hatred is making M&H look bad to the rest of the world. The only folks looking bad are the people still stuck in the cult of Petty Betty.

Harry is fine and he has the respect of powerful active people such as the Obamas, the Bidens, Tyler Perry, etc. He is not second to Meghan neither is she second to him. They are equals!

  12. Maliksmama says:

Levin’s reaction to Harry leaving is so weird. She took it personally. Her articles read like a diary entry of a jilted lover. She’s so sure that she knows the “real” Harry that she’s convinced she’s an authority. I don’t know when she’ll get it through her thick skull that she didn’t and doesn’t know the “real” Harry.

And it turns out neither did the people who should’ve known him. Charles and Willnot are the folk closest to Harry. And didn’t know the “real” Harry. And that to me is one of the saddest aspects to this mess. The people that should know you best don’t really know you at all.

    • Kalana says:

She recently retweeted a call to honor Nigel Farage. Basically she’s massively racist.

    • Amy Bee says:

Remember in the engagement interview, he said to Mishal Hussain that people think they know him. Those who think they know him weren’t really listening to him or they wouldn’t be expressing shock or surprise at some of the things he’s been saying recently. He was saying them long before he met Meghan.

The funny thing about Angela Levin is she’s only spoken to Harry for 15 minutes. When she was writing her book, KP promised a sit down interview with Harry and he keep dodging her until she complained to KP and they made him do an interview with her. She doesn’t know Harry and projects her own feelings onto him.

    • Ginger says:

She is a deranged women and interacts with Meghan hate groups online. She is incredibly creepy. These RR’s think they know who Harry is but I am sure he puts on a front with them. The Harry in their minds would never leave the RF but the real Harry did. And they can’t grasp that.

    • starryfish29 says:

She’s certifiable. She’s like the deranged ex who is convinced that if she just waits long enough and messages him enough he’ll see the error of his ways and come back to her, because she is the only one that truly knows and loves him.

  13. S808 says:

For celebrity not to last forever, every last one of them sure are desperate to be regarded as such. They try so hard to appear above it when they want everything that comes with being a celebrity without the label. They want the flashy events, the adoration, the money, the regard, the respect, all of it. They’re not fooling anyone.

  14. lanne says:

This bitch spent 15 minutes talking to Harry. She acts like she’s his mother and his jilted wife. If she worked for an actual corporation she’d be brought up on HR charges for inappropriate behavior.

The problem with the rota rats is that they think they are members of the RF themselves— that they speak FOR the RF, not ABOUT the RF. They have assigned themselves as gatekeepers, but who is actually seeking them out? The royal rota will go the way of the royal family in post Brexit Britain. They will have an ever smaller audience, and if the UK breaks up, their audience will be even smaller still.

  15. Abby says:

Bashing someone for actually doing some good in a messed up world, smh

  16. Lizzie says:

Harry is and always will be royalty. I think he know the difference between royalty and celebrity as he is both and this hack is neither.

  17. Midge says:

I think the BRF is so threatened by Harry and Meghan because it is quite clear that the old way of doing things is entirely unnecessary for success. In fact, Meghan and Harry have shown that they can be even more impactful without the firm (and its tax burden to the British people).
Also, the Sussex’s transparency might lead one to question the actual work vs money / lifestyle of the firm. How impactful, honestly, was Kate’s survey? Has the ribbon cutting earned the lavish estates and tax payer funded wardrobe?

    • Becks1 says:

I think this is a big concern. If H&M can be successful and impactful by working with their own foundation, raising their own money…..then what are the other royals doing, particularly the Cambridges?

    • sunny says:

Yes- this precisely. However attacking them in this aggressive way is stupid.

I mean, they look, stupid, mean-spited and beyond pathetic. It was their own fault they lost their best assets, they drove Harry and Meghan away and with every action such as this one, anyone who is watching knows that Harry and Meghan made the right decision.

Also making everything about Harry and Meghan is really telling- the rest of the family doesn’t have enough going on to talk about(except Prince Charles who does do a lot of work)

      • Islandgirl says:

If this is the start of a smear campaign I agree that they are feeling threatened. But, they always knew this would happen. When there was talk of exile to Africa or wherever there was talk of nit wanting a separate court.
It really means that the BRF and the RR believed that there was no chance of Harry and Meghan surviving without the family’s support.
Now what…..a smear campaign? What will that do? They have already set the narrative about Meghan that is believed by their supporters. ….They will just be preaching to the converted and showing those who know better (people ouside of the UK) exactly who they are.
I shouldn’t have but I really expected better. Who exactly do they have on staff at these palaces?

      • Becks1 says:

@Islandgirl – “Who exactly do they have on staff at these palaces?”

Gold standard advisors, clearly!!! lol for days.

  18. PixiePaperdroll says:

    “an airy-fairy do-gooder”

I’m guessing this is a HORRIBLE insult in boarding school. Not so much in the real world.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

      Sounds homophobic to me. Disgusting.

      • Ann says:

I think it is homophobic. When I was a kid “fairy” was a derogatory term for gay men, or men perceived as unmasculine. Ugh.

      • JanetDR says:

I’ve only seen it used in terms of head in the clouds, daydreamer, artsy, etc. Sometime a fairy is actually a fairy.
(Of course I don’t know how everyone uses the term.)

  19. TheOriginalMia says:

If Harry & Meghan weren’t a threat to the monarchy, we wouldn’t see these continued smears against them. H&M have shown that it is possible to thrive without the public dole and titles. H&M have shown the world that royalty is fleeting and that their popularity is not tied to being in the BRF. That’s a problem for folks, like William, who has the personality and warmth of a dead fish. He’s used to people liking him because of his future status and not from any effort on his part to being a decent person.

  20. Amy Bee says:

I agree this is the start of the ramping up a smear campaign against Harry and Meghan in the lead up to the one year review at the end of March. I think it actually started with the bogus story of Harry and Meghan wanting an extension to the one year review but they had to course correct after the launch of the Archewell website which all but stated that Harry and Meghan weren’t coming back.

    • MsIam says:

Agree this is all “We quit you, you didn’t quit us! “ nonsense. I think they are afraid of the embarrassment of Harry and Meghan not showing up for that stupid non-review. These people must take lessons on how to lose gracefully from Donald Trump!

  21. MissMarierose says:

Royalty is just celebrity on the public’s dime.

  22. Who ARE these people? says:

Royalty is forever, said Charles II and Louis XVI.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Charles I was the one who lost his head – his exiled son eventually restored the English monarchy as Charles II.

    • Justme says:

Charles I (Charles II died in his bed “Let not poor Nellie starve” – among his last words in reference to his mistress, actress Nell Gwyn)😊

    • RoyalBlue says:

and the hapsburgs and Nicky and Alex.

  23. kelleybelle says:

Well Harry is both, so what’s her point? Bitter old woman, a perfect match for Dickie Arbiter.

  24. lanne says:

These idiots are creating the atmosphere where comparisons will be made. All their talk about what the Sussexes are doing will only lead to people asking what the royals are doing.

I will offer them some free advice. Royal courtiers, if any of you read this, y’all done screwed up. Big time. The smart move now would be to Stop. Talking. About. The. Sussexes. Full stop. Close your mouth. Instead, talk about the wonderfully keen things the Cambridges are doing (and push them out the door to do those things). Have William come out and say “I support my brother and sister in law and nephew” in their new lives, but look at all the amazing stuff we’re doing here!!

Take the high ground, royal folks. You lost this round. But you can stay in the game by being gracious and ahem, royal. Everyone will jump to call you amazing if you do that. (Psst. It doesn’t have to be true. Just play the game. Isn’t royalty all about “duty” anyway?).

Play this smart, folks. That’s the extent of lanne’s free advice. Consider it. Right now, your advice isn’t golden. A turd painted with gold dust is still a turd.

  25. Detnow359 says:

One thing that is never acknowledged is that Harry probably has grieved the loss of his family and his sheltered privileged life. He’s known nothing else. He also now lives in a completely different country and did all of this as a newlywed during a pandemic. Yes, I’m sure he has struggled. Who wouldn’t? And he has admitted mental health issues in the past so it is logical to think this adjustment has been very difficult for him.

I think they had some ideas of what they would do but the pandemic happened and slowed things up. He also worked very closely with many organizations that he’s no longer allowed to participate with. And they essentially stripped him of his military titles that weren’t just given to him like others in his family but earned.

Of course he is grieving and could very well seem very different than what everyone is accustomed to seeing. That’s real. Of course his wife is there to help him but let’s acknowledge his losses and allow him to grieve and find his place in the world in his new life.

    • KW says:

100% on this. I was forced out of my family ten years ago by a family of bitter, petty and jealous fools, such as this family. I was told to submit or leave, or face consequences. The consequences were evil. And I left. With my own little family in tow. And I grieved the realization that I was an orphan at that moment. And went in to therapy. A few years ago, I came around due to a parent’s illness, and unfortunately, the same exact behavior from said family, and also towards my one son made me realize that being born in to a family doesn’t mean that they love you, they respect you, they just want you to play a role that they created for you, gasllight you and sabotage everything you do, to extended family … this shit goes on.

I can totally relate to this. Harry tried. I believe he tried. Him being angry at the treatment of the person he chose to marry being treated like shit from his family, his sibling being jealous, being petty, being shady and then acting entitled, it won’t end because HE chose to break the pattern. And now William is going blue in the noggin trying to tell the world otherwise with these incandescent with ignorance articles. I’m sure Harry’s in therapy. I am sure he is sitting and stewing when new shit comes out of the tabloids, but it gets easier to laugh it off, and then one day you can’t believe that you ever came from that family of twats, that you are healthier and stronger than ever before.

I expect these stories come from KP because the dull lightbulb is not in control of the narrative. He seems to be the only person from the lot of twats who has/had everything to gain by keeping Harry down. Now, the aristo crowd all laugh behind his back, they make fun of his wife, and he realized nobody ever really liked him for him, but because he would be king one day. And now, nobody but the Middletons want that douche to be king.

That’s my two cents on a Monday.

      • kelleybelle says:

And I like your two cents. Well said. Most of all, it’s true, especially about the Middletons.

      • LOLikes says:

@KW 100% agree!!! Had same family experience: Estranged w/one son that the family treated horribly, re-connected because of family death. I too had therapy concentrating on how to deal with this dysfunctional family. You are so right: “ being born into a family doesn’t mean that they love you, they respect you, they just want you to play a role that they created for you, gaslight you and sabotage everything you do, to extended family … this shit goes on.” Prince Harry, Meghan & Archie are in a healthier space mentally & physically away from the Royally Soiled Family.

        And You’re 2 cents is worth a million $.

    • MsIam says:

I appreciate your attempt at empathy Detnow but Harry “lost” his family long before he left the UK. From the moment he started getting serious about Meghan his family has been on his back. The smear campaign started as soon as Meghan was pregnant and probably before that. So what you think is “grief” is probably relief at getting out of that hell hole. Any grief he felt started with the shocking way his family has treated his wife and son. Claiming they “ miss Archie so much” through the press but absolute silence when he’s compared to a chimp. As for missing his country, he has a home he can go back to at any time if he chooses.

    • AnonyCat says:

I think Harry still has the medals that he earned in his military career. He just doesn’t have any of the extra Queen’s honorary medals. For example, look at Anne and all the medals she wears. I don’t think she has the military career that Harry had.

Yes. I’m sure he grieved/is grieving that loss but I think he is in a stronger position, because any military association is actually earned. I mean Kate got a military medal for basically not going HAM on Rose but Harry has a program with the Ministry of Defense for the inclusion of mental fitness in military training.

That program truly is a lasting legacy he should be proud of. Harry will find other ways to honor his military service and fellow servicemen outside the pomp and ceremonies, and like a lot of veterans will have to adjust to civilian life. Sad for him but this is beyond his control.

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

      Have to disagree.
Harry left the army in 2015 after 10 years of service. He met his wife in 2016. During that brief, roughly one-year period of trying to acclimate back into the faux “duty” world used-by-the-royals-to-cover-their-decades-of-grift, which he had loooooooong grown away from, he had high anxiety…..he’s spoken about that period. So meeting Meghan, getting married, navigating a smear campaign orchestrated by his relatives, setting up house, having a baby, moving to a new country and doing it all over, he has had no time or inclination to “miss” something he never really had since his parents divorce, that is, a stable family life.
Just think, after the death of his mother when he was 12 years old, he lived a mostly peripatetic life, being taken care of by a nanny and with relatives. Until he reached the, ironically, safe haven of the army. Could you see yourself living like that? Now he has his own family.
“I’ll always protect my family; now I have a family to protect.” – Prince Harry.

    • Both he and Meghan have faced unbelievable pressures since they got together. Relocating to different countries, changing ‘jobs’, outrageously aggressive negativity from BOTH their families, reinventing themselves, the baying of the press hounds, the loss of a child…..it just goes on and on. I think they are both amazing. Hopefully, they are both staying in touch with therapeutic counselors to keep them on an even keel. And there is nothing weak about that if they are!

  26. Jaded says:

Well what comes to mind is the old saying “revenge is a dish best served cold” and Harry and Meghan will continue to do their good work, be successful and diplomatically give all those old farts the middle finger.

  27. Freddy says:

Royalty is actually NOT forever…ask the former royal families of Italy, France, Germany, Russia…..I could go on…

  28. Mumbles says:

I’m rolling my eyes at slamming Harry for being in California when he could have been “a great comfort” to the British people. The vast majority of Brits don’t care one whit, one way or the other, about the Royal Family. And most people get comfort from their own friends and family, not from famous people they don’t know personally.

    • L4frimaire says:

The Brits made it very clear they wanted the Sussexes gone and resented their taxpayers funding them unless they could get 24hr ArchieCam. I still to this day do not see this level of interest in any of the other royals, not even the little kids, definitely not William. I can’t imagine what fresh hell they’d be going through if they’d stayed in the UK. Every problem would be blamed on them. In some ways it still is because Levin is basically saying that only Harry could have boosted the mood of the UK, not the other royals. I saw someone on Twitter last week saying they missed him but didn’t understand how he could leave after supporting him since he was a baby. Like, really?

  29. Mina_Esq says:

Just commenting on the title itself: I respectfully submit that the opposite is more true…

  30. Gail says:

I think Angela needs a time out for about a decade . That woman really thinks she knows Harry . Like they were BFF and he dumped her for Meghan. Get over yourself already.you were never going to be it Angie

  31. Beth says:

“Royalty is forever”???? Lmao do they not teach world history in England or what, because I know at least the Netherlands and France would have a few things to say to that BS statement.

    • AnonyCat says:

The Dutch still have their Royal Family
      😀

But yes. Royalty has been abolished in Italy, Greece, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Russia, a number of African countries (that’s due to colonialism though) and we know that it will be abolished in our lifetime in Thailand because the current King is deeply unpopular with his population with reason.

      So it’s not forever.

      • ArtHistorian says:

It wouldn’t be surprised if the Spanish monarchy is abolished in out lifetime as well.

  32. Bex says:

    Royalty is forever?? SINCE WHEN????

First the French, then most of Europe got rid of their royal families. She’s lost her mind with that ahistorical BS.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Actually, the English were the first to eject their royals (they were also the first to execute their monarch). However, they invited them back a couple of decades later. France went through a similar development with the crucial difference that none of the royal restorations survived.

  33. Izzy says:

If royalty is forever, why are several Commonwealth countries considering leaving the Commonwealth?

  34. Case says:

“The Duke of Sussex has ‘discarded life as an action man to become an airy-fairy do-gooder.’”

WOW this enraged me. When Meghan was a working Royal they complained she worked too hard, was too eager, and demanded too much of her staff. Now that they’re on their own, they’re just “airy-fairy do-gooders” instead of people who take action? I’m quite confident H&M’s social work is far more impactful than anything the Cambridges have tried recently.

    • L4frimaire says:

The words they used “ action man”, “ airy-fairy”. Talk about pushing this retro50s gender stereotypes. It’s really offensive in so many ways that have nothing to do with Harry. It’s beyond cringe to write this in a sentence. Didn’t realize that Harry was the real James Bond. Can we get any more cis-gendered ,patriarchal with the he-man stereotypes? Next they’ll say Meghan should have just stayed quiet, smiled, baked banana bread, and took all the insults because it was her duty to be destroyed.

  35. AnonyCat says:

I wonder if Levin’s sense of Royalty being forever comes from the strength of the peerage system in the UK. After all, why would it matter who is the Duke, Duchess, Marquess, Earl or Viscount of anything if there is no King, Prince, Queen?

  36. Amelie says:

Why do I have a feeling one of the first people Jill Biden will be calling when she gets to the White House is Harry? Her work with war veterans and military families is well-known and her ties to the community are strong thanks to her son Beau’s service. I expect it to be one of the main causes she highlights as First Lady and I would not be surprised to see her partner up with Harry on some initiatives. Wouldn’t that really shock the British media? Seeing one of the members of the BRF going around with one of the most powerful women in the democratic world (not his grandmother). I really hope this happens now that I’ve thought it up! That would make them realize Harry’s star power is here to stay, even when George, Charlotte, and Louis grow up.

    • Mumbles says:

Gotta disagree. Not a good look to reach out to a foreign national when there are people here who have done a lot of work with vets when Harry was literally in short pants. Fisher House, Walter Reed, lots of diverse and local organizations.

      • Amelie says:

Jill Biden has already done so much work with Walter Reed and visited several times. It’s not an organization she has neglected by any means. Also Fisher House sponsored the Inivctus Games which were launched by… Prince Harry. Jill Biden has also attended the Invictus Games several times, including when she was Second Lady. Joe Biden has even joked that Jill spends too much time with Harry. My idea didn’t just come from nowhere.

      • Nyro says:

Harry already worked closely with Michelle Obama for her Joining Forces initiative. Jill would be well within her rights as a first lady to partner up with him.

  37. L4frimaire says:

This coming from a woman who pushes fake baby and fake pregnancy conspiracy theories about Meghan. This woman is no more credible then QAnon. Also, once again acting like the Sussexes have some kind of official role that they no longer do, that they are forbidden from doing. They can be as aloof or touchy feely as they want to be. Levin really is struggling how to define them, and settles for the same sexist and racist tropes.it sucks that this bs will dog Meghan for the rest of her life.

    • ABritGuest says:

She was boosting trolls’ false claims that Doria has a criminal record on Twitter the other day. It’s a shame that any mainstream media uses her but British mainstream media is full of troll journalists & columnists.

And yeah she knew what she was doing with that language. She’s claiming he’s emasculated. Apparently clapping& doing ill advised tours during a pandemic is the height of taking action& helping people. Even though William has been praised for his woke activism, when media call Harry woke they basically mean N word lover.

    • Kalana says:

Angela Levin is on the level of that woman who went on American television and called Meghan something like a few clicks from trailer trash. That level of deranged.

Why are so many of the royal reporters just rotten people? Camilla Tominney, Richard Palmer, Angela Levin -every time I start to say this one is the worst, I’m reminded of more who are just as terrible. Why is it so hard to find someone who is a professional who treats this like a job and not an opportunity to push abuse and hate?
