Harry & Meghan’s Interview Open Post: Hosted by the one and only Oprah

Oprah Winfrey on stage during her ’Your Path Made Clear' tour

It’s funny, a week ago, CB and I debated whether or not it was worth it to do an Open Post for the Golden Globes. I argued against it because I thought the Globes would be chaotic and bad and no one would be watching. I was right, but even I didn’t know how terrible the Globes would be. Well, it’s massively different with CBS’s Sussex interview. American awards shows and sporting events could only dream of the kind of hype Oprah’s interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is getting. My prediction (and remember, I’m a bitchy Cassandra) is that it will be one of the highest-rated programs of the year in America, and that tens of millions of people around the world will watch the full interview by the end of the week.

Most of us understood that the British papers would be in full-blown Clown Show Mode throughout the weekend, and that’s exactly what happened. The amount of space and time devoted to these two royals who peaced out is quite extraordinary, even more so when you consider the fact that the official position of so many royal commentators is that “no one cares about Harry and Meghan.” They want to be able to launch into one of the most naked, half-assed smear campaigns, hyperventilating the entire way, then they want to be able to say that Harry and Meghan are unimportant, that what they say is super-boring, yet the whole thing is a “circus” of H&M’s making. If it is a circus, I know who the clowns are.

According to the Sunday Times, Liz of House Petty plans to “ignore” the interview, yet in the same breath, courtiers promise to “come out swinging” if H&M talk sh-t about them. Liz wants to get back to work and focus on that, which is super-weird because we’ve heard a thousand times in the past three weeks that no one should be doing or saying anything because Prince Philip is in the hospital? Weird.

There’s also a strange attempt to make it sound like Meghan and Harry are being paid for the CBS interview. One, that’s not how the American media works. Two, they aren’t being paid. Three, the $7.5 million figure being floated around is what CBS paid OPRAH and her production company for the interview.

Anyway! You can follow me on Twitter at @KaiseratCB. You can follow CB on Twitter at @Celebitchy. Here’s Oya’s handle and Hecate’s handle too.

    Let’s go, bitches!!

  2. Noodle says:

I’m on the west coast, but desperately want to see the interview when it’s broadcast on the east coast. Any suggestions for how to view on east coast time? Would the CBS streaming app have it?

    • Melly says:

Can you get a VPN? NordVPN is easy to use and there’s tons of discount codes

      • Noodle says:

I don’t think so. I’ve downloaded the streaming app and didn’t connect it to my provider, so maybe they don’t know my time zone (??). I’m going to try at watch at 5pm PT and see if I can. If I can’t see it until 8pm my time, so be it. I’m just so excited!’

      • Melly says:

I’m using the Paramount+ app, maybe that might be helpful for you? You can see what’s upcoming using that app. If you need any help, let me know

      • Noodle says:

@melly, thanks for the offer. It won’t let me proceed until I share my location so it can link me to my local station. Don’t they realize I am lying about my location so I can watch it earlier than my local station broadcasts!?! Grrrrr.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Noodle
There’s always app called FakeGPS. It has a blue compass logo. You watch an add and set a zip code for wherever you want to appear and it thinks your phone is in that location. Even your weather app will tell you the weather for that zip as current location. Good luck!

    • Chicken says:

On Twitter, the Squadparties account is holding a watch party here: app.kosmi.io/room/rsgf1f They are saying they it will play there wherever you are in the world. I’ve never attended but maybe it will work.

      • Yasmin says:

Yes, one of the biggest Meghan instagram accounts also posted this link so it’s legit! I will be watching from the UK

      • ElaineBenes says:

I clicked it and I just have a spinny wheel and says “joining”. I hope I don’t have to wait til 8pm PT!!

      • bettyrose says:

Thanks for the link! I’m trying but I think they’re overwhelmed.

      • Alexandria says:

Can’t get in…I’m in Singapore…I’ll just park myself here!

      • bettyrose says:

I’ve tried the different links people have posted, but they just take me to the local CBS broadcast. No worries. I’ll wait, but I am watching the updates on CBS.com so I can chat here!

    • Midge says:

I’m in the Dominican Republic and using Nord VPN and Paramount +. Can’t wait!

  3. fluffy_bunny says:

I don’t stay up late enough to watch all of the interview live. I do have this weird thing that happens when new Walking Dead airs. I end up waking up at 4am to watch TWD and the Talking Dead before the school run. I’m assuming that will happen tonight and actually hoping for it because my husband is working from home and is constantly in meetings and I can’t hear any of the shows I watch. But cheers everybody. Enjoy the tea.

  4. Imogene says:

I never, ever miss 90 day fiance but there was truly no choice tonight. I am READY.

  5. Mariatia says:

I just realized my CBS app turned into paramount plus. Help! Where do I watch?

  6. Laura says:

I bought an antenna because I didn’t feel like adding basic cable to my internet….I’m guessing it’s after 60 mins…the wait is on

  7. ms says:

Why can’t CBS pay the Sussexes for the interview? Not disputing the facts. Just unaware of this aspect.

    • Melly says:

That’s just not the way interviews work in the US

    • Elizabeth says:

I’m guessing it is considered a violation of journalistic ethics because the subject would then be indebted (in a sense) to the interviewer. Better to leave money out of it to avoid an appearance of bribery.

    • MsIam says:

I think its because Harry and Meghan don’t want to be paid. This program is not from CBS news, its from Oprah’s HARPO studio. CBS brought it from Oprah.

    • harperc says:

To add more to the “against journalistic ethics”: mainstream media will pay license fees for video and photos, but will NOT pay to interview you. It’s this idea that if you were being paid to say something, then you would be more likely to lie in support of the story. No pay, no conflict of interest.

Some orgs in the US do pay for stories (TMZ, National Equirer, etc), and they are considered tabloids, which is why they are ignored by the MSM.

I don’t think British media have any idea how little respect tabloids get over here. Over there, the BBC actually talks about what is on the tabloids’ front pages. But here? They’re ignored, unless the stories they break can be confirmed by “real” sources (celebrity deaths, John Edwards paying a girlfriend, etc.)

  8. TheOriginalMia says:

Wait a minute! Watching 60 Minutes & the last commercial said something about why Archie isn’t a prince. Good Lord! What are we about to find out? That it wasn’t H&M’s decision?! OMG!

    • Imogene says:

Yes, that left me shocked. I think we are going to be learning A LOT tonight.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Technically, he ISN’T, because H&M declined titling him. HOWEVER, he WILL BE a Prince when Charles ascends the throne I believe. Whether ARCHIE CHOOSES to title himself that way, at 18, is another matter (of his choice).

    • TwinDawgs says:

OMG!! I literally gasped when I heard that clip.

    • anotherlily says:

It wasn’t a choice. Charlotte and Louis would not have been HRH but the Queen issued Letters Patent to include all the children of the heir to the Prince of Wales and not just the first born. (or first born male in the original ruling). When Charles is King, Archie becomes a grandchild of a reigning monarch and entitled to HRH (unless Charles issues Letters Patent to restrict HRH to the children of his heir, which is what the King of Sweden has done).

Edward’s children are entitled to HRH, however, their parents decided to use the titles applicable to children of an earl. So, James is Viscount and Louise is Lady. Once they reach 18 the decision is theirs, meaning Louise could choose to use HRH and be known as Princess Louise.

Titlles make no difference to the line of succession and Archie is ahead of Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Princess Anne and all their children and grandchildren.

      • sassafras says:

That can all be true but have they denied protection to Andrew, Edward, Anne, et al?

  9. aquarius64 says:

T minus 56 odd minutes and counting. GMB is having Toxic Tom on this week to comment on the interview. The Dim has reported ITV sent hours of interview footage to CBS. Bad Dad may be in the interview but CBS may be fact checking what he has said. If CBS finds inconsistencies it will get reported.

    • Lorelei says:

Oh ffs, as if Tom has anything new to say, or absolutely anyone cares what he thinks about this interview. They’re so desperate! They’ll throw anyone who says anything negative about Meghan on the air. He was old news by the end of May 2018. What a joke.

  10. Liz version 700 says:

My husband is making fun of how excited I am to watch this. Meanwhile his math nerd self is watching WWE. I kid you not

  11. Neners says:

Went on a run. Eating dinner, jumping in the shower and then shutting the bedroom door and grabbing some popcorn. Nobody better interrupt me during this interview or there will be war!

    • Roo says:

Just kissed my family, told them I loved them, and that I am unavailable for the next two hours!

    • Rose says:

My husband kept talking during the interview. Like come on wait for a commercial. If you don’t know who The Firm is this interview isn’t for you! Let me be!! Now is not the time for a rundown on the line of succession and the powers that be!

  12. Willow says:

Wasn’t even sure if I was going to watch this (2 hours)! Then the carnival of so-called experts spent all week nitpicking at our Meghan. So I am popping popcorn and brewing tea right now!

  13. LaLaSF says:

    A clarification about American media:
Being paid for interviews is not uncommon when a human interest story . As this is not a news piece, H & M could be being paid but we will never know unless it is released via tax records or other public financial statements. As they are private citizens, there is no reason for that to be shared other than to avoid further speculation.
But nonetheless, I am ready for the tea at 8pm!

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

LaLaSF, why would they lie? This information was put out there BEFORE anyone started asking about whether they were being paid. If you really think that Oprah, Meghan and Harry are lying, why are you on this site?

    • L4frimaire says:

Thry confirmed they are not being paid.

    • Annie says:

I’ve been an American journalist for 39 years at legitimate publications. Legitimate news publications NEVER pay for an interview.

  14. Drun says:

So, in spite of the fact that H+M are “still beloved members of the RF”, the courtiers can rip them apart with no push back.

    • Lorelei says:

These articles are pathetic. One of my favorite lines was: “On Monday most people in Britain will be thinking about schools going back, getting the vaccine and, at the Palace particularly, looking forward to the Duke of Edinburgh coming out of hospital. This is just a sideshow,’ they said.”

Sure Jan, keep telling yourselves that if it makes you feel better, lol.

  15. Liz version 700 says:

Holy Cow good on Mackenzie Bezoa for dropping her marriage news 30 minutes before H&M’s interview. Fly all the way under that radar !!

  16. Sinéad says:

There’s a new clip out. The queen didn’t want to make Archie a Prince!!! 💣

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

WHAT?????????????????????? I thought H&M TURNED THAT DOWN??!!!

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

ETA: There is NOTHING on Google about this.

      • Lorelei says:

From the clip, it does NOT sound like they turned it down! Unless it was some creative editing by CBS, it was the Queen’s decision.

    • anotherlily says:

I’ve explained why above. Charlotte and Louis would not have been Princess and Prince but the Queen changed the rules (Letters Patent) to give HRH to all William’s children and not just the firstborn.

      • Becks1 says:

Yes, but from the interview, it sounds like Harry and Meghan wanted Archie to be a prince as well (which he’ll become once Charles is king anyway) because the royals were tying the HRH/prince to whether he would have protection. They could have changed it so that Archie was HRH Prince like they did with the Cambridges, but it sounds like they didnt even want him to be Lord Dumbarton.

  17. Sarah Kate says:

I am hoping they address the hypocrisy of the treatment of the Sussexes meanwhile noting how the Royals have covered for Prince Andrew (after having coerced sex with an underaged girl – at Epstein’s)

  18. Tiffany says:

I am so happy for this interview with Meghan and her husband, Archie’s Dad.

  19. wendywoo says:

I’m so excited to hear about their “Donkey Sanctuary”!! 😉

  20. Beach Dreams says:

YIKES x1000 at the new clip they showed about Archie not being a prince. Oprah framed the question in a context of the palace not allowing it. The clip didn’t show Meghan’s answer, but if she confirms that’s the reason…holy hell.

  21. C-Shell says:

Love you all, but I will only be checking in during commercials. I will be hanging on *every word*!

  22. Harper says:

I am so nervous/excited. I hope Meghan prefaces all her answers tonight with “Do you want me to tell you the truth?” like she just did to Oprah about the prince question.

  23. Carmen-JamRock says:

Wherever you are in the world you can see the interview at: freeintertvDOTcom then at the very top, above the menu bar, put in cbs in the quick-search bar and it will bring up a list of abt 4 CBS stations. Click on CBS USA and youre in!

  24. Shahad says:

if I was Meghan and Harry I would have worn a secret camera when interacting with those vipers so that I had evidence for their shenanigans . I wonder what uk laws say about recording a person without consent ? Especially in the palace .

  25. CL says:

    So excited!!

  26. Allie says:

Long time reader, first time poster! Finally got up the nerve to post, because I am a big Meghan and Harry fan and I need somewhere to discuss this interview!

I actually envy all the people who will be snacking during this. I’m too nervous to eat! LOL!

  27. Harper says:

Also, I’d like to congratulate Prince Philip for surviving the pre-interview period. We should start taking bets on what day he is discharged from hospital. I say Tuesday.

  28. Becks1 says:

I’m here and ready. I’m in my “leave the monarchy, take the prince” tshirt, my husband bought me a good bottle of champagne, I put up a facebook PSA about the racist british media, and I have twitter open.

    I’m strangely nervous.

    • MipMip says:

I was nervous! Twenty minutes in and it’s even worse!

    • Lorelei says:

@Becks at first I was nervous, then screaming, and now I’m just numb with shock at how much is being revealed. HOLY SH!T. Tomorrow is going to be *off the rails.*

      I am DYINGGGGG

  29. Sansa says:

I’m setting aside all of Monday for gleefully following the BRF/RR’s meltdowns over this interview. it’s a good thing I’m unemployed, because this is going to be A TIME

  30. Meghan says:

I have it on in my hotel lobby but still have a lot of check-ins left. Maybe I can put a sign up “please check yourself in thanks!”

  31. Roo says:

Does anyone know the viewer numbers for the Commonwealth ceremonies?

    • Lainier says:

      In the actual Commonwealth? Zero.

    • joanne says:

I’m in Canada and I doubt if anyone I know would even know that there’s a Commonwealth Day. I’d never heard of it.

    • SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

Commonwealth Day isn’t really a thing.

    • msmontclair says:

I’m in the UK, and I checked on the Guardian while it was airing – nothing. Watched the nightly news – not mentioned. Love it.

  32. Becks1 says:

Of course they own chickens. LOL.

  33. (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

ONE MINUTE IN! WHAT IS HAPPENING! LOL. (West Coast here)

    • Becks1 says:

Harry and Meghan have chickens lol.

    • CuriousCole says:

Meghan’s currently explaining that pre-wedding, she wasn’t really certain what her day-to-day role would be. One of the first members of the family she met was QEII and she was surprised to had to curtsey to her behind the scenes too. She and Eugenie were friends before she started dating Harry, that’s fascinating. Also, we get to see the grounds of their house and they have a massive chicken coop filled with chickens they rescued from a factory-farm!

  34. cassandra says:

Ugh I hate Oprah’s outfit even more now

  35. Melly says:

Omg they’re going to announce if it’s a boy or girl!!!

  36. CuriousCole says:

They’re going to tell us if it’ll be a boy or girl!!! I’m so glad I have this site, thank you for this open post!

  37. Alarmjaguar says:

Wait, did she just imply they were going to do a gender reveal tonight!?

  38. Becks1 says:

“Judged by the perception when you’re living the reality” – that was a good line.

  39. Tiffany says:

So Fergie is living on the property again.

    Huh.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

I thought she was ALWAYS living with Pedo in the last few years (except for that time in Switzerland).

    • CuriousCole says:

I doubt she ever left tbh. But I was genuinely intrigued by her and Eugenie having a friendship prior to Meghan’s knowing Harry. How/when did that happen?

  40. Stephie says:

Loving this so far and am so happy to be able to share this experience with fellow Celebitchies!

  41. Jeanette says:

I agree. I look at them as celebrities. They not better than I am. 23&me said I’m descended from Ramses III.lol (I finally used that!!!) my lineage longer damnit. Hahaha! But truly they are just famous people here.

  42. TheOriginalMia says:

So, I don’t think we knew Meghan knew Eugenie before Harry. And they were lunching at Royal Lodge, which means the speculation that Andrew & Fergie were behind the girlfriend reveal more plausible. Interesting.

  43. CL says:

She thought the queen was a regular celebrity?

  44. Mika says:

These F**king commercials!! Get on with it!

  45. FancyHat says:

Having to wait through commercials is painful. He never watch live tv anymore.

  46. Circe says:

Oprah isn’t pandering at all. She’s pushed for a deeper answer on a few questions!

  47. Lola says:

The courtiers are going to “come out swinging?” What happened to never complain, never explain? Or is that “expectation” only for Meghan and Diana?

  48. Elizabeth Phillips says:

    Archie’s Chick Inn!

  49. Becks1 says:

Ah okay so now we’re getting into the “hurricane Meghan” and making Kate cry. She calls that last one a “turning point.”

  50. Tiffany says:

So their marriage date was different.

    Well, well, well.

    • CuriousCole says:

I love that they kept it private. It’s also similar to continental wedding practices, having the smaller, legit wedding first and then the big spectacle.

    • swirlmamad says:

I absolutely love that they did that! Good for them.

    • bettyrose says:

Just saw that on the cbs.com updates (while I wait for the local broadcast). I love that they did that, but remember how nervous Harry was on the wedding day? Did we read his lips saying “I hope Meghan is okay?”

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

So glad that Meghan’s memory of her actual wedding day was not tainted by Charles the Snake walking her down the aisle trying to make himself not look like the racist POS he is.
Between him, William, and the guffawing cousins (like Zara), that whole wedding was a clownshow and it hurts to watch it in the same way it hurts to watch Diana & Charles’ wedding now.

My gods this family is hot garbage

      • ElleV says:

Notable that the clips they used of her walking down the aisle were from BEFORE he joined her for the final walk.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Yeah Elle I saw that too. I’m angry and heartbroken for her. Harry’s family ruined it for them.

    • Elizabeth Phillips says:

      What? Did I miss something?

    • Lorelei says:

People on Twitter ALREADY bitching that they should now be required to repay the cost of the wedding since it was a “fraud” — the wedding is the new Frogmore.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Sweet zombie baby Jesus give me strength…

You know, I wish Oprah had asked more about the whole Frogmore nonsense.

  51. Beach Dreams says:

Meghan confirming that SHE cried and not Kate.

    • HeyJude says:

The greatest thing is the royals and royalists will have no idea what to do with her directness. They don’t understand it.

I love how she’s facing this down. She’s amazing.

      • Liz version 700 says:

This makes Will and Kate look so so bad and they deserve it. They made her cry and turned it on her

  52. HeyJude says:

OMG They got married before the wedding, the royalists are going to lose their shit. I love it!

And now she’s saying Kate made her cry at the fitting.

OH MY GOD. Inject this into my veins.

    • Aphra says:

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!! I can’t log in to see it! Tell me EVERYTHING!!!!!

      • HeyJude says:

OK I’ll since for the people who can’t view, since I do some live social media myself:

H&M were overwhelmed by all the spectacle of the huge wedding, the pressure, so they decided just 3 days before to go and get married quietly on there own just them for themselves.

Kate and Meghan did have a disagreement about the fitting, and Meghan cried because of all the overwhelming emotion of the pressure of the wedding. That was it, they moved right on and the story only came out randomly months later. Later Kate apologized and sent her a gift. She bares her no ill will and thinks she’s a good person and that they’re pitted against each other in the press, but they don’t have to be. She’s being super charitable, diplomatic, & sympathetic in how she’s handling her comments on Kate quite smartly. Oprah reads some of the headlines to show that.

She’s going to tell us the sex of the baby when Harry joins her in the interview.

There’s been some teasers about her and Harry not getting say in Archie’s being a Prince, why that decision was made and now they just had another teaser where someone unnamed expressed concerns about how dark Archie’s skin would be when he was born.

      • HeyJude says:

Now, she’s getting more into how there was no role for here or plans for what she’d do once a working royal. And she was routinely told to lay low because there was so much press coverage of her taking over everything. Meanwhile she had not left the house but 3 times in a month in actuality. She was even denied just being allowed to go to lunch with friends because she was too “out there” in the press.

She’s talking about the tour now and her answer bout being not okay. She asked the firm for a long time for assistance in all this. Being protected, getting to work, etc.

She’s specifically calling out how every little story would be challenged for other royals but not her and Harry. The Kate crying story and their refusal to negate that was her turning point.

Then she was told Archie would not be a Prince and not be getting royal security.

      • HeyJude says:

They gave her and Harry no explanation on why Archie would not get a title and security.

Meghan did not care about the title, but they said Archie didn’t get security because he had no title so that’s why she wanted it. For his safety and protection as they didn’t ask for this Royal Family craziness and press intrusion. She felt it was their duty to protect him.

She also mentions the convention that Archie is due his title when his granddad becomes King, and they were told, again without reason, that they were looking at changing the grandchild convention of automatic Prince just because of Archie.

They were also never asked to do the outside the hospital photo. And then the palace would not say they were the ones who never asked.

Oprah asks the race question, is it because of his race:….all through her pregnancy there were conversations with Harry about how dark Archie’s skin would be when he was born. They were concerned he’d be too brown.

But she will not reveal WHO had the conversation with Harry about that. It was a family member however. She says that will be too damaging to that person.

      • HeyJude says:

Is this still helpful guys? I don’t want to clog the comments if y’all found another way to follow along.

      • HeyJude says:

They replay the racist and sexist UK press onslaught. And Meghan is talking about how friends and her mom would call her to tell her all this press and that the royals weren’t protecting her.

Meghan at that point decided she didn’t want to be alive anymore. (Oh my god.)

She went to the firm, saying she needed to go get help for it, and was told no it wouldn’t be good for the firm.

So SHE WENT TO HR to complain because she couldn’t get help from the most senior people at the firm and HR said they couldn’t do anything because she wasn’t a paid employee.

      • HeyJude says:

To be specific, she asked to go get help at a mental help hospital and was told no.

The firm had her passport, her driver’s license, and her keys. She literally could not go somewhere herself to get herself mental health help.

In the midst of this the next day she had to go to the Royal Albert Hall for that even with Harry. The night prior is when she told him she was suicidal, he said I don’t think you can go but she told him “I can’t be left” alone. (This is gut wrenching to watch TBH.)

So she went and all she sees when she looks at the pictures is Harry held her hand so tight his knuckles where going white.

She’s talking about how much loss Harry has had and she didn’t want to put more burden on his shoulders by telling him but she knew she had to say she was suicidal out loud or she feared acting on it. And she’s talking about it now because she thinks it’s important for mental health awareness.

      • HeyJude says:

She’s not saying this to shock people, she’s simply telling what she lived through she says.

She’s not going to live in fear of palace backlash for saying all this. And she doesn’t know how the palace would think they would still stay quiet after all this when the firm is actively still lying.

She’s lost her relationship with her father, she lost a baby, (she almost lost herself), so much has been lost already she’s not going to live her life in fear basically.

Harry’s joining her next to talk about their exit and specifically it sounds like the Queen.

Catch up- I forgot to say in the midst of her struggle with the press onslaught and her mental health spiralling, plus not getting any help Meghan went outside the palace and actually found a confident in a close friend of Diana’s who talked her through this.

      • HeyJude says:

Harry comes in with a sheepish “hello”

        IT’S A GIRLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

Two is it, they’re done after one of each and Harry’s thrilled they’ve got one of each. It’s ideal. The baby’s due in summer.

        On to the move now….

      • HeyJude says:

Harry and Meghan initially went to Canada because it was a Commonwealth country in particular and security was promptly cut off. They were told on short notice security was being removed.

The firm’s justification was a “change in status”. No risk level had changed, Harry asked about that in particular, it was their level of drawback that was the status change. They were still in as much risk level danger as ever. They weren’t told any of this ahead of time despite the fact that they had negotiated the exit for so long.

Once UK security was removed, that’s when Harry decided since their location was known, the borders could be closed due to COVID and Tyler Perry had offered them his house AND SECURITY so they made the decision to go to California.

      • HeyJude says:

Harry confirms the reason they left was they went everywhere in the firm and family for help, mental health and support, and were refused.

But he said- but we never left, we haven’t left the family. We just wanted to roles that people like Zara and Mike have. Where they aren’t working royals but still support the country.

Harry gets into the fact he wasn’t even aware of the way the royals and UK society would act with a mixed race person until it happened.

He repeatedly asked in the press for them to back off. 3 times. Once as a boyfriend, once as a husband, and once as a father. And no one did anytime.

POINT BLANK: They left because of the press and the lack of support from the firm.

The Queen was not blindsided by the exit. He had multiple talks with his dad and grandma in Canada. And even told them the exit plan.

Then Charles stopped talking his calls once Harry had given them the written out plan and Harry started making “moves” for himself.

        Charles cut off contact. (Wow.)

      • Lady D says:

Most helpful @HeyJude. I really appreciate this.

      • HeyJude says:

They confirm they were silenced for 3, 4 years.

Meghan got inspiration from the Little Mermaid she watch at the Cottage while stuck at home. She falls in love with a Prince, losses her voice but gets it back in the end.

        Back to Harry-
On Meghan’s suicidal feeling- Harry could not tell the family she was suicidal that’s just not how the family talks to each other. They don’t turn to each other like that. He was also ashamed

The family has a mentality of “this is just how it is, we’ve all been through it”. But what was different for Harry was the race element. That’s when he decided to question the way the palace was doing things.

He was questioning things like how Parliament wrote a letter of support about racial abuse of Meghan, but his family said nothing to him about that.

Harry outright says the family is ruled by the tabloid invisible contract that controls them from behind doors. And they live in fear of them that’s why they do nothing.

The contract is they get good press if they wine and dine the press. Brings up how tabloids hold holiday parties at the palace.

With his actual family Harry says Meghan was received far better than he expected but it all changed after the Australian tour. Because that “brought back memories”.

      • HeyJude says:

The family became jealous because she performed like Diana did and dazzled on their Australian tour like Diana did.

Harry calls Meghan one of the “greatest assets to the commonwealth that the family ever could have wished for.”

So the jealously was absurd she was an asset to the firm and their goals.

Back to Canada- Harry was shocked his protection was removed because of the threat level he’s always face (personal view from me- there will be Parliamentary investigations into the security pulling considering Diana’s didn’t have hers either and what happened.)

They weren’t trying to have it both ways being out, and get benefits like security, he just faces so much risk and was born into it. Meghan wrote letters to the family begging them to at least keep Harry’s security (his military duty makes him a risk.) It was all played off as an institutional decision they couldn’t do anything about.

Meghan does cut off Harry here, when she’s explaining why she never engineered all this herself. (That will be played on loop endlessly by UK press I’m sure, she put her hand on his to interject.)

Harry felt trapped too. So she wasn’t responsible for their exit. Even without Meghan he felt trapped he just didn’t know it.

Harry says the Charles and William are trapped by this awful archaic system too and he has major compassion for that.

Harry said all his years in the spotlight before Meghan he might have smiled and appeared to have it all but that’s what you’ve got to do when the cars roll up and the camera come out. You put on your A game.

Harry says Diana would be very angry will how this all played out and that she’d be really sad but that in end all she ever wanted for any of them was to be happy.

Commercial teaser shows Oprah’s going to ask Harry the skin color conversation question.

      • bettyrose says:

        Thanks, HeyJude!

      • HeyJude says:

The family cut him off financially in the first quarter of 2020, but he lived on what Diana left him. And they never planned on these deals but had to pursue the Spotify and Netflix deal for money just for security. That’s all they were. Means to an end.

Harry says Diana saw this coming.

Harry has spoken more to his gran in this last year than for many, many years before. They have a very loving relationship, they zoom, he respects her more than anyone else it seems.

His relationship with his father- he can’t even talk about at first. His face flushes red. He chokes up and says he feels very let down and a lot of hurt has happened. Charles experienced something similar in the press onslaught himself and Harry expected better, especially for Archie his own grandchild. And Harry will make it his priority to heal that rift.

But the royals only know what they know. They only know what they’re told by the systemic institution. And Harry’s trying to educate them.

And William- much will be said & he loves him to bit but they’re on different paths (quickly moves on.).

They immediately then go into the skin tone conversation. Which Harry says that he will never share. It was absolutely shocking and he won’t get into it.

In conclusion- if they had the support they’d still be there. They did everything they could to make it work and to work the exit process right.

Ending up in California was never the intention, the deals were never the intention, it was all done to get money to keep the family safe.

      • Ang says:

        Amazing recap, HeyJude, thanks!!!

      • ElleV says:

Fantastic recap! I’m guessing you’re a journo based on the way you captured Harry’s face flushing red when talking about Charles and quickly moving on from talking about William – it’s those little details that speak volumes!

Also, how crazy is it that Will didn’t get much heat in this interview? I really don’t believe Charles or anyone at BP/CH capable of the galaxy-brain-level PR required to plant so many stories for months/years that appear to lead back to KP.

    • Tiffany :) says:

THATS THE PLOT OF THE FUG GIRL’S BOOK!! Omg! The secret private marriage before wedding!

    • Laura says:

Yes, it’s very helpful, thank you!

      • Eleonora says:

        Thank you.

I’m not in the US or UK, and I think it’s being broadcast only this evening here.

Thanks to you I know what happened (and now back to sleep for an hour or so)

      • Eleonora says:

In addition, I checked the Clarence House Instagram and people are calling out Charles.

It’s funny because there are some older comments talking about the last photo, and then you get a lot of Why didn’t you take your son’s calls!!! type of comments

    • Golly Gee says:

Thank you so much for providing the running commentary Jude! I am unable to watch it until later because of my time zone. This is great!

    • Lila says:

Thank you so much for doing such a thorough recap! Big thanks from the west coast!

    • Lorelei says:

@HeyJude I hope you’re right and there’s an investigation re: Harry’s security funding being pulled — absolutely appalling

    • Chartreuse says:

Thank you thank you, hey Jude! I haven’t seen it. My mouth is hanging. I read yours and Kaiser’s twitter. Amazing interview.

  53. Quincytoo says:

Watching it now just turned it on
One they are going down the Kate cried
And it wasn’t Kate who cried
I think I love Megan more now

  54. Laura says:

The reverse happened in regards to the flower girl dresses!!

  55. Neners says:

So Kate made Meghan cry, not the other way around. Woooooow.

  56. SpankyB says:

    .

  57. Val says:

So Kate is the one that made Meghan cry. Well, well, well the chickens came home to roost in a while kinda way!

    • Emm says:

Omg I’m shocked. But not at the same time. Just wow.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Kate’s got that unpleasant energy in spades. I’m not shocked at all. Meghan’s a much better person in every way because even now she’s defending Kate and saying “she’s a good person”.

      • Emm says:

That’s so true. She is a much better person than Kate because Kate would never do that, and she hasn’t but I guess I’m shocked that this came up so quickly and Megan just went right in lol. I’m all for it but you know the royals are all freaking the eff out right now and we still have an hour and a half left!

    • TaraBest says:

I gasped! I did not think they would ask about that!

  58. TheOriginalMia says:

So…the truth is that Kate made Meghan cry about the flower girl dress. And she acted so badly, she freaking apologized and sent flowers. Yet…they have allowed that lie to fester and spread. These mofos…

    • Emm says:

I knew it was so much worse then what we thought but now….. I mean these people need to be in prison.

      • Tiffany says:

Kate literally wore white to the wedding.

Those flowers and apology meant nothing.

  59. Imogene says:

WOW didn’t think they would even say Kate’s name soooo the fact that 15 mins in they are calling it out means they are not pulling punches here

  60. Nina Simone says:

Kate made HER cry! Woww and she couldn’t even correct the story out there ?!

  61. (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

OMG DYING here!!!!!! UUUUGGGHHH!! I HATE living on the West Coast right now!!! lol

Thank you all for keeping us informed!! (Will STILL watch!)

  62. Nic919 says:

    I KNEW IT!!!!
Kate said NOTHING. Karma is coming!

  63. Circe says:

    KATE MADE MEGHAN CRY

  64. Becks1 says:

I think she’s being too nice to Kate but that’s her choice, not mine. I’m glad she’s at least getting the real story out there.

    • CuriousCole says:

I really respect how fair Meghan’s being to Kate in discussing the wedding story, she’s amazing. I must admit I’m shocked that Kate apologized to Meghan for her actions though. I didn’t have Kate down as being the type to apologize for much of anything.

      • Nic919 says:

She hiding that Kate was pissed since she found out about the cheating with rose around that time. That’s why she’s not getting into it.

But Kate remains a bitch for not correcting the record.

      • bamaborn says:

She’s trying her best to keep from saying, “yeah, they’re basically all a** holes,”

      • VS says:

Meghan acknowledged the palace would correct the record on the most unimportant things but never for her, never!

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Kate didn’t correct the record b/c she knew the lie provided cover over her shame at being cheated on

      • PrincessK says:

But she said that Kate was probably stopped from setting the record straight, Kate is also controlled by men in suits, there is more to this.

    • Lorelei says:

@Becks ITA. She could have been fair & diplomatic without going so far as to say that Kate is a “good person.” But hopefully it will make Kate feel unbearably guilty!

  65. Tiffany says:

Oprah so far is doing good. I like this flow.

  66. Beach Dreams says:

KP is going to spin like a goddamn wheel on the dresses story alone. I can’t wait to see them flop and flounder about!

    • Edna says:

No wonder they panicked and went full bore with the hit jobs this week.

    • Becks1 says:

They could have so easily corrected that story, like Meghan just did. “there was a misunderstanding, Meghan was upset, Kate apologized and brought flowers, and that was it.”

So i guess now we at least have some context for the whole “Kate brought Meghan flowers” tidbit.

    • Neners says:

They’re going to rue the day they didn’t nip the bullying of Meghan in the bud. Pandora’s box is wife tf open!

  67. Willow says:

Kate made Meghan cry, not the other way around.

  68. Harper says:

Meghan is rocking it with the directness and the love and forgiveness.

  69. Edna says:

OMG. Can you imagine the headlines tomorrow! Meghan lies about Kate crying.

    • CuriousCole says:

Yeah and I’m certain Meghan’s discussing her personal, lifelong work history will be weaponized to imply she was actually saying it to attack Kate’s laziness. *eyeroll*

  70. Neners says:

Anyone else feeling weirdly anxious watching this? Is it just me?

    • CuriousCole says:

Yes, that was me before it started!! Now that it’s happening, I’m doing better.

  71. aquarius64 says:

Kate made Meghan cry. And Meghan didn’t go into details. This is going to run for a minute.

  72. betsyh says:

Kate made Meghan cry BUT she said Kate is a GOOD person.

  73. FancyHat says:

Meghan is being too nice to Kate. KP better be careful though because apparently there is a note proving Kate apologized.

    • Edna says:

Meghan knows she can’t rip into Kate. The angry black woman trope is used as it is against her.

    • Shannon says:

Wow finding out what Kate did is several layers of WTF. Imagine being such a jerk to your soon-to-be SIL that you have to send formal apology flowers, and then allowing the media to excoriate said soon-to-be SIL over It because you’ve allowed everyone to think SHE was the jerk.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Nah, she has to be diplomatic for exactly the reason Edna noted. Plus it’s served Meghan well to be the bigger person because it makes it that much harder for people to claim “proof” of her being whatever terrible figure they make up in their minds.

    • J.Mo says:

Ooh you’re so right! She has the note! Kate or KP could have said the story wasn’t true, so simple.

    • Alexandria says:

Probably because Meghan also pities Kate. Kate may be unpleasant and dim, but she is also miserable and trapped.

  74. Oatmeal says:

The tea is hot and nutritious !!!

  75. Gah says:

This is amazing. (Said the way Oprah says amazing.)

  76. Bren says:

    So Kate made Meghan cry.

Well, that explains the bully headlines from KP this week.

  77. Katherine says:

Ohhhhhh my goddd this is the best tv I’ve seen in years. Kate made Meghan cry honest to god I gasped but also I’m not even a little bit surprised.

  78. Sansa says:

WHEWWW only a half hour in and the tea is already scalding. Meghan is going high but we all know Kate is not a good person. all the leaking Keen does and she couldn’t place an anon source saying that “mean meghan” wasn’t a thing? mhmmmmmm

    • Indiesr says:

Notice she stated everyone was welcoming, but it’s not what it seems. Pay close attention to the way Megan chooses her words. You can definitely tell they were not genuine with her.

  79. TheOriginalMia says:

Kate didn’t correct the story. KP didn’t correct the story. BP didn’t correct the story because the black duchess’ feelings and reputation didn’t matter as much as the English Rose. I am livid. Meghan was pregnant and a newlywed.

    • Eleonora says:

As a side note: I never thought of Kate as an English Rose at all. To me at least, an English Rose is a friendly and pleasant sort of woman.

But I guess the thorns were there.

  80. Sid says:

    Meghan is incredibly gracious.

  81. MsIam says:

And you just know Meghan kept that note y’all…Plus KP is already on record as saying how Kate sent flowers.

  82. Edna says:

    They set her up.

  83. cassandra says:

I really thought this would be less juicy than it is. This is spicy stuff haha

  84. H says:

I got into an argument with a friend who is watching but she’s anti Meghan. Here’s the hand. Nope. Tonight is H&M’s night.

  85. Lanie says:

I half expected Meg to say the queen gave her the MBS earrings.

  86. Becks1 says:

This is sad, talking about how lonely she was, and how isolated.

    • Sof says:

Which proves they never really welcomed her, isolating someone, especially in a foreign country, is abusive behaviour. These horrible people!

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Wouldn’t even let her have visits from friends!

That’s something abusive partners do to their spouses – cut them off from friends and family, isolate them, not let them leave the house, treat them like crap.

And then you have the British media acting like abusive ex-boyfriends all over the damn place when they finally decided to get free.

      • Deering24 says:

She couldn’t go to lunch with friends because she was already “everywhere” according to the tabloids?!? Jesus.

  87. Lanie says:

    Oh shit!

  88. Becks1 says:

OMG They did not want a black prince. we knew it but she’s saying it. holy eff.

  89. CuriousCole says:

Holy Shit, people were openly voicing concerns to her over how dark Archie’s skin would be?????

    • Indiesr says:

I know right?! What that hell???

      • CuriousCole says:

Just, damn. I cannot believe people went there TO HER FACE!! We saw the gutter tabloids going there but palace people?? And those same courtiers were telling them that Archie wasn’t going to receive security!?????! I’m gonna need a few days to process all this.

      • windyriver says:

I think she said they were telling Harry, who was then telling her.

    • windyriver says:

And did she say they weren’t asked to do the hospital picture? So blaming them for not doing it was a lie also.

    • Deering24 says:

People, my butt. I’m betting good money William bought that mess up, which is why Meghan and Harry didn’t want to say who it was.

      • SwirlmamaD says:

Or Charles. But my hunch says it was William.

      • ArtHistorian says:

It is one of those two – because something being damaging to either of them personally is also damaging to the monarchy since they are the future (future) monarchs.

      • PrincessK says:

I think it is William too.

  90. JustMe says:

How dark his skin would be WHAT IN THE ACTUAL F ????

  91. Edna says:

Did she just say they asked how dark Archie’s skin would be when he was born? OMG

  92. C-Shell says:

“HOW DARK HIS SKIN MIGHT BE WHEN HE’S BORN”???!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

    • BabsORIG says:

That’s why the carnival was so obsessed with having Archie on the hospital steps, even while Meghan was still actively bleeding and her placenta still undelivered.

  93. Laura says:

We’re you silent or were you silenced…the latter.
And then that commercial cutaway with the concerns about Archies skin color just wow holy crap

  94. Sofia says:

Aw they got married in secret apparently! (I can’t find a decent link to watch since I’m not in the US)

And what’s this about Archie’s skin?!?!?!? WTF

  95. TheOriginalMia says:

They isolated her because the tabloids talked about her too much. They could have put out the same directive they did about Kate during her pregnancies, but no…can’t do that.

    • ArtHistorian says:

They really used the tabloid abuse of her as an excuse to abuse her some more.

  96. Liz version 700 says:

Hahaha omg you know it was just the three of us H & M and the Arch Bishop of Canterbury

  97. Shannon says:

Omg the preview before this commercial. There were discussions about how dark Archie’s skin might be when he was born?!

  98. Katherine says:

What?!?! WHAT?!??!?$ they said WHAT?!?!?! Ohhhhh myyyy goddddd I need to take a walk. How dark is skin would be?!?

  99. Willow says:

    That is so unforgivable!

  100. Roo says:

OMG. I hope she tells us exactly who made those comments. 😖

  101. Lorelei says:

    OMFG KATE MADE HER CRY

I need some time to process this!!! 🤯

  102. Sonya says:

Aunties around the world bout to lay hands

    • CuriousCole says:

^THIS!!! I dare anyone to say all that BS to my face. I’ll be thinking of my niece the whole damn time I’m setting them straight.

    • Deering24 says:

      ????

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

I heard a sound after she said that – as soon as Oprah said “WHAT” – and I’m pretty sure it was a global susurus of earrings being removed.

      And they weren’t from MBS.

  103. betsyh says:

Love how candid she’s being. Also, she is so articulate.

    • VS says:

She is actually much better at it than H is….she is so articulate and careful in her words than H is….I wish she did 1.5 hr alone and H only came for the last 30min….
I used to call myself a supporter of Meghan but now I stan the lady; the strength that she must have needed to survive in that place
She thought about committing suicide…I will never forget those bastards for that; they better close their comment section; if anyone of them ever EVER talk about mental health or racism again, I will be there to talk about their hypocrisy

  104. Snuffles says:

Meghan is clever. She is saying just enough for people to deduce the truth.

    • Lorelei says:

@Snuffles ITA. I kept saying to my husband, “that pause WAS the answer!!” And her words are so deliberate.

  105. Galena says:

OMG, this shit is ah-mazing! Oprah: ‘what?!’

  106. Seraphina says:

I keep gasping and putting my hands over my mouth. Maaaaaaan, they ain’t gonna be happy across the pond.

  107. Nic919 says:

    The racism!!

  108. GuestWho says:

    I gasped…

    William!

  109. Monica says:

Waaaaaahhhhhh! I’m on the West Cooooooooooaaasssst!1!!1!! Just skimming through the comments has me panting and slobbering for 8pm PDT!

  110. bamaborn says:

Noli, the TRUTH. Feel for her naivety.

  111. Becks1 says:

    Titles…..here we go….

  112. Anna says:

Is there any way I can watch this here in the UK?

    • SomeChick says:

ITV is running it Monday night. I think 9pm but it’s defo ITV.

well worth a watch! I’m wishing I could rewatch it already. broadcast tee bee, damn!

  113. Lanie says:

And they wouldn’t provide security for the baby after they let the media froth up the right wing nut jobs.

    • BabsORIG says:

And the decision for Archie NOT be titled was NOT the Sussexes, and the machine NEVER corrected that mistruth.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

couple this with them taking HER NAME off HER CHILD’S birth certificate – the child they were rejecting before he was even born!

They better be fixing THAT crap.

      • ArtHistorian says:

There was a commenter here a while ago who claimed that they had info from someone familiar with the situation. This interview just confirmed their story – that the racism was really overt, it came straight from the top and the family treated Arche as if he were illegitimate. I wondered about what they meant about this last bit but now we know. They denied him a title, and the security arrangements that comes with it and, correct me if I’m wrong, contemplated changing the law so that he wouldn’t automatically be given a princely title when Charles ascends the throne. That is treating a child born in wedlock as if it is illegitimate. And then they lied about it to the public, making it out as if it were Meghan and Harry’s decision – just to cover their asses and stick the knife in H+M’s backs one more time.

      • Becks1 says:

@ArtHistorian – that part to me was really interesting, the implication that charles is going to change the rules so Archie NEVER becomes a prince. We had heard a rumor of that (I think its in Finding Freedom) but again it was painted as H&Ms choice. Turns out, not their choice. I dont think Meghan cares about him being a prince EXCEPT that they tied the prince title to security, and she also seemed fully aware of the optics of not giving the first black royal (by blood) a title.

  114. Neners says:

They denied Archie protection and a title. This is just…..Wow. I have no words for this.

  115. Becks1 says:

ohhhh so they wanted to change it so that Archie would NEVER be a prince, and that wasnt their choice or desire. HOLY EFF.

ETA “they” = the institution, the family

    • Golly Gee says:

That struck me too. That they would actually change the rules to exclude Archie in the future when Charles becomes king.

    • MrsBanjo says:

My jaw dropped. Now it’s out there. Let’s see if they have the balls do it when the Queen dies, and if so, how they’ll explain it away. Racist assholes.

      • Lorelei says:

I was shocked when she said that! I want to know who at the palace is behind changing this convention just in time to exclude Archie. I guess if we never hear about it again after the Queen dies, we can safely assume it was her. If Charles actually goes through with it, he’s a bigger piece of shit than I thought, and I already think he’s useless trash.

  116. Beach Dreams says:

This family is truly disgusting. Denying security before Archie is even born…

And can I add, WOW, she’s actually revealing a lot more than I thought she would and in the typical clear and diplomatic way that’s her nature. Kudos to her for letting this all out and I hope she’s gotten catharsis from this.

  117. Sof says:

What?? No securtity for Archie?? My rage levels are escalating really fast.

  118. Harper says:

This is more devastating than we predicted.

    • CuriousCole says:

@Harper, that perfectly and succinctly describes this entire interview. I truly cannot fathom the devastation Harry must have felt to have the Men in Grey and his own family members discuss concerns over how dark his son would be and then be told Archie wasn’t worthy of security. All that after seeing his defenseless wife slandered in the press. I’m now exceptionally impressed he didn’t go hands-on with William over some of this, his CW service face of thunder was not a one-time thing. This makes me so sad.

      • Feeshalori says:

Man, l have visions of Harry throwing William up against the wall and beating the bloody pulp out of him.

      • CuriousCole says:

@Feeshalori I would love if that was a reason why William disappeared from pretending to carry out duties for a stretch of time in 2019 but, sadly, I feel Harry was somehow restrained.

    • Lorelei says:

@Harper, we know they were already in panic mode and this is SO MUCH WORSE than anyone could have expected. I’m shocked at how revealing it was…I don’t know how they could possibly come back from this. Devastating is exactly what it was. And much sadder than I expected. But we’re slowly learning what Harry meant by the “if you knew what I know” comment.

  119. Emm says:

Wow, alllllll of the shit we heard was completely the opposite. WTF!

  120. One of the marys says:

My husband is delivering snacks, drinks and turning up the heat, waiting on me hand and foot haha

  121. Imogene says:

    Ugh, this hurts.

  122. Sofia says:

Wow so no security. I get the titles bit and don’t think the Sussexes were that upset over that (idk if she expresses upset because again I’m not watching it because I don’t have a link)

    • Becks1 says:

I think she’s upset about the title because it meant he didnt have security (wtf to that) and bc she is smart enough to realize what it would look like if he didnt have a title. They had to act like it was their choice, when it wasnt. that’s so sad.

      • Seraphina says:

Plus, it’s his birthright. How can they take that away???? And it wasn’t taken away from others right???? We are talking the FK’s grandson.

  123. Coco says:

Burn it all down, Meghan! And salt the earth behind you!

  124. cassandra says:

    Actually screaming

    It’s happening

  125. swirlmamad says:

SO that’s what Will said. He wanted to know how dark Archie would be because dark skin = BAD. She won’t say who said it and it was because IT WAS WILLIAM.

    • Neners says:

It all makes sense. Harry will NEVER forgive him for that.

    • Becks1 says:

100% it was William. That’s the cause of the rift.

    • BlueToile says:

OMG. It had to be Will. Maybe Charles, but my money is on Will.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

My money’s on Charles. Will doesn’t have the power to revoke security for Archie or his parents, that’s an Elizabeth-Charles decision.

        And they chose that.

And the whole thing about excluding Archie from succession/titles/security permanently; that’s a Charles thing.

    • Deering24 says:

Agreed—William _would_ say something that terrible.

  126. Elizabeth Phillips says:

So THAT was the conversation that caused the worst part of the rift.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

      BINGO!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!

    • BabsORIG says:

Exactomundo. And the machine left the lie about William concerned about “Meghan” uncorrected because IT WAS DAMAGING TO THE FFK and they had to protect William at all costs. Hahaha, William so bored with racism, hahaha, William so wants to end racism among FOOTBALLERS, my arse.

    • CuriousCole says:

Yeah, that’ll more than do it. I’m curious if it was two separate conversations or if his skin color was tied to security in the same breath? I’ll have to go back and re-watch that bit.

    • Deering24 says:

William ought to thank his lucky stars Harry and Meghan didn’t openly brand the Future Keen King as a racist. That is way more generosity than his sorry rageoholic rose-plucking ass deserved. 🤮😡😡

  127. TheOriginalMia says:

Lordy, someone in the family (William) actually said to Harry they were worried about his child being dark skinned. Yep, that would have done it.

  128. JRenee says:

Omg, they didn’t opt to not title Archie.
I bet the blow out with Will and Harry was about Archie’s potential skin color.
    No security for Archie.

This is why the Firm was on edge. This is horrible

  129. MipMip says:

Burn it down Meghan. Burn it all down.

  130. jaylee says:

It was William concerned about Archies’ complexion! It all makes sense now.

    • swirlmamad says:

Yup. The second she said that she wouldn’t say who said that b/c it would be “damaging” to them, I was like “IT WAS THAT MFER WILLIAM!”

    • Beach Dreams says:

Abso-fucking-lutely. I’m sure he made quite a few comments about it; Meghan DID say there were several conversations after all.

    • JRenee says:

Charles stopped taking Harry’s calls. My heart just dropped.
They both lost relationships with their dads.
      Sickening

  131. Beach Dreams says:

WOW. Actual RF members brought up Archie’s potential skin color.

  132. H says:

Who told Harry about the baby’s skin color? Bets on Willie?

    • Lanie says:

      That’s my guess.

    • Seraphina says:

Kaiser took an awesome guess on Twitter. I fell down laughing, after I picked my jaw up off the floor upon hearing Meghan.

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

This is important. M said the conversations were being had with H and she heard them from H. And she said the person having the conversation with H was “family.” (Rmbr, earlier in the interview M stressed that it was important to keep The Firm and The Family separate.) But the convo abt A was with “family.’ AND!!!….she said that to name that person would be damaging.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Of COURSE it was William!! Wouldn’t doubt it though if Charles also chimed in. Don’t that remark he made about the woman, said he couldn’t believe she was English?

      • windyriver says:

I thought she referred specifically to “him”. That she wasn’t going to name the person because it wouldn’t be fair to “him”. Could have heard it wrong. Am just so shocked to hear all of this.

    • Quincytoo says:

Willnot or Phillip is my guess
I just feel so bad for H&M and hope this interview brings down this horrific racist family.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Would Harry still be Zooming with Philip is he said that about Archie? My money is on William. (Esp. thinking about the dagger looks at the CW church service before they left).

      • Arpeggi says:

It’s William. Philip is known to be a racist POS but they wouldn’t care as much because it’s not like he’s going to be around long enough to have any meaningful interactions with his great-grandchild (also, I’m not sure PP is still present enough to even bother asking; regardless of what the press claims about him still bossing the family around, I doubt that’s true, there’s a reason why he retired). Will tho? That’s cause to burning all the bridges

      • Jayna says:

Really? My money is on Charles.

  133. Becks1 says:

    IT WAS WILLIAM WASNT IT

    • Lorelei says:

100% it was William. But I want to know what exactly he was saying the “problem” would be if Archie was deemed to be “too dark.” Did he want Archie excluded from photos? Like, what is the point of this conversation — the baby was going to come out looking however he was going to look — so wtf was the point even trying to be made here?! To come up with a “solution” in case he was too dark for the BRF’s liking?! I feel like whatever was said was so offensive that Harry might not have told even Meghan the full extent of it.

  134. Seraphina says:

There are some instances I think Meghan is clearly all PR and acting, BUT the conversation about Archie and his skin color????? HOLY EFFING MOLY. She looked shaken and I believe it.

    • heygingersnaps says:

I believe her. When I was pregnant with my son, my partner’s mum (who is british white) burst into tears because she was worried about what my son would look like (i’m south east asian, brown skinned) and I was just stunned by the casual racism of it that I didn’t say anything.

      • Beana says:

I am so, so incredibly sorry you had that experience. That breaks my heart. Hugs. ❤️

  135. EllenOlenska says:

That’s why all the royal commentators were screaming (and still are screaming) for Archie pictures. It was always about his skin color. Knew that back then.

  136. Kalana says:

They were going to deny Archie security. These people are evil.

  137. Willow says:

Is she not giving names so they can’t sue?

  138. Nina Simone says:

Speak your truth baby!!!! The Rf is racist

  139. Edna says:

It was William. That’s what the blow up was. “Somethings were said that can’t be unsaid or taken back.”

  140. Oatmeal says:

They really did her extra dirty

Allowed the media to run extra negatively rampant on her then arbitrarily decided they wouldn’t protect archie yet STILL let the media demand H&M serve up Archie to them

    Extra foul as fuck

  141. Harper says:

Meghan is too smart to say William’s name but she said family member and I doubt it was Charles or Camilla.

    • TIFFANY says:

I think it is Charles because he controls the purse strings and she said Archie would not have security.

      • TeamAwesome says:

Once again, it was NEVER the Duchess these people needed to worry about. Cue up that gif of Harry dropping that mic, ya’ll!!!!

      • BabsORIG says:

It was NOT Charles. It was a HE, so that rules out all female family members. Harry said that him and HIS FATHER were still talking till Harry “took matters of removing him and his family out of harms way” into his hands and his “father stopped takin my calls”. So even after the Archie skin color discussions, Harry was still in contact with his father but NOT his brother. That says it all.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Agreed. And where the heck was Betty? Summer of 2020, SHE INTERVENED to make sure Prince Andrew had security. The non-working royal with his HRH and military titles and Royal lodgings.

SHE HAD THE POWER DO LOOK AFTER THEM ALL ALONG.
SHE HAD THE MONEY TO LOOK AFTER THEM ALL ALONG.

        She didn’t WANT TO.

  142. Giggles says:

I’ve been watching what has been happening to her from the start of her relationship with Harry. The Firm will just twist and turn all these things she is saying. I hope she has receipts. I hope this helps their plight. I am firmly team H&M.

    • Lady D says:

I hope it helps them to know they got the chance to put the truth out there. They probably know they aren’t going to win with the Firm or the press, and most of their family members are garbage, but now everyone knows what they went through and the palace’s dirty little secrets have seen the light of day.

  143. NomNom says:

The racist bullying jealous bastards that are the royal family, ugh! I’m here for Meghan’s truth! Oh, and for you guys, love reading the comments during commercial breaks!

  144. MA says:

This is devastating. I’m so hurt and angry for them.

  145. Emm says:

    Mine is too!

This was meant for the comment about the husband bringing snacks lol.

  146. Gah says:

I think her comments about how the palace would issue press releases about superficial unimportant things but not about the truth is a reference to the releases denying Kates obvious use of Botox and fake hair.

But they couldn’t be bothered to show up when the press was spewing lies about Meghan.

This is getting worse and worse as it goes along for the RF and it comes down to one thing: race.

Guesses about who was talking about furrier baby’s skin? I’m thinking either Charles or Wills

She is discrete and soooo good at this!!

    Go Meghan!!!!

  147. C-Shell says:

This is breaking my heart and we still have over an hour to go. 😭😭😭

  148. livealot says:

so william or charles is racist. it’s like we knew the institution was and racism exists yet i’m still shocked it’s confirmed and so blatantly so.

  149. Sansa says:

what if your biracial child is TOO BLACK said the utter knob who is bored of racism but only in football good god. i rescind my earlier comment about the tea being scalding because this inferno is hotter than the heart of a volcano with p3nis teeth!! speak on it Meghan

    • truth fairy says:

      ‘p3nis teeth’
😂 That makes no sense and perfect sense at the same time

  150. Sofia says:

The Archie comments really make you understand why they never kept him around the family for too long and why he’ll barely see them

  151. Midnight@theOasis says:

I hope she has receipts and is willing to use them.

    • Circe says:

She mentioned letters she wrote the BRF three times. She definitely has receipts.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

and emails to various secretaries in The Firm, no doubt, plus HR, regarding the mental health care.

  152. AmandaS says:

How she can be so diplomatic during this interview is quite frankly a damn inspiration.

    • livealot says:

@amandas i think it’s because they had time to process and accept it. but while it was happening – yea she was suicidal. disgusting.

    • starryfish29 says:

Because she had to be. POC do not the get luxury of being publicly angry. It’s why folks say that Obama always had to behave like the least aggrieved black man in America.

  153. Roo says:

How TF does the RF recover from that shitty behavior? I see no way for them.

  154. Midnight@theOasis says:

    They nearly broke her.

    • CuriousCole says:

She begged them for help for months!!! She told them she didn’t want to be alive anymore and they said NO!!!!!?! Idk how Harry didn’t burn it all down on their way out.

  155. Emm says:

THEIR FAKE MENTAL HEALTH BULLSHITT CAUSES!!

  156. BabsORIG says:

Ladies and gentlemen, I am bowling my eyes out. Meg became suicidal….poor Harry.
And they fuckin’ refused to help her. They wanted her and Archie dead…..let that sink in.

    • C-Shell says:

      😭🤬😭🤬😭🤬😭🤬😭

    • Emm says:

Right!! Exactly, what else would that mean? To deny help?

    • Amy Too says:

While pregnant! While heavily pregnant! She thought it would solve everything. It was basically “do you want the public to kill your baby bc he won’t be a prince and he won’t get security or do you Kill yourself and the baby at the same time on your own terms?” That’s SO SAD!! And they wouldn’t get her help!!

Also now we know what all the HR articles about. SHE WENT TO HR for help and was denied. Not the other way around with people going to HR about her.

    • Golly Gee says:

AND Took away her passport, drivers license etc. essentially holding her hostage. she was no better off then Latifah and Shamsa, the daughters of that piece of crap Sheik Mohammed who is holding them hostage in Dubai. No surprise that the queen has not said a single word against her friend the Sheik since the British court actually ruled that he had abducted and imprisoned his daughters.

      • BabsORIG says:

That’s why Archie IS NOT returning to the UK, they would confiscate ALL his travel docs and Harry and Meghan would be stuck.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Also reminds me of Charlene of Monaco. Her passport was confiscated before the wedding.

      • L4frimaire says:

I don’t understand why they’d take her documents. Britain is a modern country, not a dictatorship. Why take royal wives passports? Are they really that worried they’ll run away?

  157. TheOriginalMia says:

They pushed her to suicidal thoughts. These people are disgusting. Harry did right by his family.

  158. Indiesr says:

And yet they advocate about mental heal, but they refused to help their own…well, Meghan.

  159. Lanie says:

And they denied her mental health care when she was suicidal.

    • Midnight@theOasis says:

And she was pregnant at the time. They drove her to this point while she was pregnant!

      • Lorelei says:

I honestly don’t know now either William or Kate can EVER preach about either mental health or racism ever again.

  160. Katherine says:

Oh. My. God. The guilt Harry must carry in putting her in this. I’m heartbroken for both of them.

  161. Beach Dreams says:

    Jesus.

  162. Sofia says:

I truly don’t want to hear how much the palace aka KP care about mental health ever again

  163. Liz version 700 says:

Let’s be honest they didn’t want Archie to have security because they hoped the black grandchild would disappear evil it is just evil

  164. Nic919 says:

Omg this is so much worse than I thought she was going through.

  165. OzJennifer says:

So it was probably William. I’ll bet that he used horribly offensive language as well. This is heartbreaking stuff.

  166. Indiesr says:

Omg! She’s crying. My heart breaks for her

  167. AmandaS says:

I am in tears for her, this is heartbreaking.

  168. Val says:

This is so bad for that family. I hope the family combusts and the commonwealth countries make a mass exodus!

    • Deering24 says:

Yeah, one imagines the Commonwealth leaders and citizens are going to be having some extremely grim conversations over the next few days…😈😡

  169. Katherine says:

    I’m sobbing.

    • bamaborn says:

It is sad Katherine, but they got outta there and we have to do what we can to protect them.

  170. Midnight@theOasis says:

I wish I could just give her a hug. My heart breaks for her.

  171. Meghan says:

My heart is breaking for Meghan. I had INTENSE passive suicidal thoughts when I was pregnant and I’m just a regular person. What she said just rang through to me to my core.

  172. Mimi says:

I wasn’t gonna watch it but I couldn’t help it and turned it on when she was telling her about her suicidal thoughts and my heart just breaks for her bc I know exactly how it feels. I struggle with suicidal thoughts on a daily basis and I just want to hug her

    • betsyh says:

here is a virtual hug for you, Mimi.

    • Becks1 says:

      Big hugs Mimi.

    • bettyrose says:

**hugs** Mimi! I have been there, and I know.

    • Sid says:

      Hugs to you Mimi.

    • CuriousCole says:

Mimi, I’ve been there, please don’t give up hope. Hope is always around us, it’s just sometimes hard to see through the darkness. Sending hugs and fluffy puppies to you.

    • Golly Gee says:

Depression has a way of distorting our perceptions. You are not alone, even if it feels that way. I hope your mental load is lightened soon!

    • Beana says:

Mimi, there are a lot of us here who have been there. I hope you can know just how much you are needed in this world and I hope you find the help you need. Four years on, thanks to medication, an excellent therapist, and wonderful people in my life, I don’t have those thoughts. I know it’s hell to struggle with it every day and just want to say that there IS hope and you ARE so, so loved and valued on this planet. ❤️

  173. Rapunzel says:

So there was a headline on the Fail right before the interview started about how “Harry and William ‘will put rift behind them and move on after bombshell Oprah interview – with joint unveiling of Diana statue this summer'”… with lot’s of talk about H & M will “move on” after they’ve “said their piece.”

Methinks William got wind of Meg’s “how black will Archie look?” revelation and wants to get ahead of that.

Ten bucks says Wills asked Harry, “But what if your child looks like a ni–er?”

  174. bettyrose says:

OMG. I’m just following online until 8pm my time, but in some ways I’m glad I’m preparing for what I’ll be hearing. What you’re all saying is so much worse than what I thought we’d be hearing.

  175. Becks1 says:

This is devastating. My heart breaks for her.

And I swear Kensington Palace better drop the mental health advocacy NOW. What the fuck.

    • C-Shell says:

William had no credibility coming into this, but his facade is completely blown to smithereens and I WANT HIM TO SUFFER THE HEAT OF A THOUSAND SUNS!!!

    • ArtHistorian says:

I’m petty and want the mental health charities to drop the Cambridges. They deserve to publicly shamed for advocating mental health causes whilst ignoring the distress and pleas for help from their sister-in-law. Their hypocrisy has been laid bare and they have lost all credibility as mental health advocates. I cannot see how orgs can work with them after this.

  176. JustMe says:

Harry couldn’t protect his mother and they very much underestimated his love for her

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

Light a candle for Diana tonight. Thank her for pulling her sweet baby boy, her DIL and her grandkids through. Harry said it:

“My family literally cut me off financially in the first half of 2020 but I have what my Mum left me and without that we wouldn’t have been able to do this. It’s like she saw it coming and she’s been with us through this whole process”

I’d like to think that Diana’s looking after baby #2.

  177. SwirlmamaD says:

I’m crying tears of sadness and fury for her. The RF is evil to its core.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

I just want to give a big hug to everyone suffering trauma as the result of the revelations of what the BRF did to her… they didn’t just traumatize Meghan, they’ve gone out of their way to traumatize every Black, Biracial, POC everywhere with this.

      And the media as well.

I know hugs can’t fix it but know that you’re loved and I’m grieving with you and raging and want to burn it all down for you.

  178. Mimi says:

I have a whole new respect for Meghan now tbh cause I can’t even tell my family about my issues I’m too ashamed and she’s right ITS VERY HARS TO ASK FOR HELP ITS VERY HARD

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Hugs, Mimi! I hope you find the strength (through therapy or however you can) to live your truth. Get strong, and do what is best for you! ❤️

  179. Katherine says:

Harry is one of the most amazing male public figures I think I’ve ever seen. After overcoming such tragedy and then youthful indiscretions (some quiet serious don’t get me wrong) to become this man who basically went right you f*ckers are about to destroy my wife. We are GONE. And he could gaf about any of the rest of it. I’m… speechless.

    • bettyrose says:

I’m not trying to excuse some of his worst indiscretions, but the more we learn about the world he comes from, the more we can see he was just being part of that world . . . and he’s grown so far beyond all of that since then.

    • Isabelle says:

Yes he was a punk when he was younger but it could have been from grief over his mother, the pressure of being in his family and being labeled the black sheep. My brother did very much the same After our parents passed and has turned out to be wonderful adult and man. A man who protects his family above fame, wealth and a crown…giving it all away to protect his family, it a good man in the end with some flaws. Like every single one of us.

    • Deering24 says:

Harry learned, grew—and has an empathy his family does not. Given how many wealthy kids like him get swamped by that toxic money-power-reputation-uber-allies crap, his understanding and perserverance is amazing. A truly good man—and a real prince.

  180. Busyann says:

My jaw has been on the floor for an hour. My god.

How ironic is it that Cannot and Willnot are supposed to be some type of mental health supporters but they literally turned their backs on Harry and Meghan.

    • Lorelei says:

For the entire two hours, my jaw was on the floor except for when I was screaming.

This was so much worse than anyone expected. I don’t even know how they can begin the damage control with this — it’s not going to be possible to come back from tonight’s revelations, at least not for a long time. This was far more damaging than the Panorama interview, imo.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I think the effects of this interview will be much worse for the BRF than Diana’s famous Panorama interview. Mainly because this lays bare the racism of the family and the institution at a time where there’s a global pushback against physical and psychological violence racism perpetuates against PoC. Add to that the emotional cruelty and unwillingness to help a women suffering from depression and suicidal ideation while the persons who represent the future of the monarch has put themselves forth as mental health advocates. Then there’s the added context of Harry being Diana’s son, forced to watch his wife being treated just as horribly as his mother was. The BRF may have worked hard for years to slander Meghan (and have succeeded to a certain degree) but this interview, IMO, has unleased a storm against them that is entirely of their own making.

I don’t think the British monarchy will fall because of this – but I hope and pray that it does long-lasting damage because the actions of the family and the institution have been downright evil. Especially abruptly taking away their security (and funding) when they were targets embroiled in a racist media frenzy that could have put them in harms way. It is an incredibly abusive tactic – probably designed to both punish them and force them back. Luckily, they have wealthy, powerful and generous friends who could give them safe haven until they got their ducks in a row to ensure their own security.

  181. MsIam says:

Hearing the thing about her drivers license and passport disappearing sounds like what happened to the woman that married Prince Albert. It seems all these royal families are super controlling, at least as far as the women are concerned.

    • Deering24 says:

Oh, man, my mom and I just stared at each other. What kind of controlling fuckery is that? Never figured this was that bad.

    • Golly Gee says:

Yes! That really struck me. I just commented up thread about how this reminded me of Sheik Mohammed of Dubai and how he abducted and is holding his two daughters Latifah and Shamsa prisoner. He is a good friend of Queen Elizabeth who has not said a peep about this even when the British courts had declared that they believed he had done this.

    • ArtHistorian says:

      That was is so chilling!

  182. TheOriginalMia says:

Meghan is incredibly brave to admit she was suicidal. I don’t know how Harry has kept his cool, knowing what they were doing to her.

  183. Beach Dreams says:

It’s all so much worse than we thought. This is truly horrifying. I am SO happy she and Harry got out of there with Archie. Evil, evil creatures throughout that institution.

  184. Stephie says:

Some of the scenes from The Crown are ringing true here….Meghan not being in possession of her passport or license, not being able to leave or get help. How can they say no to this? Unbelievable. This is making them look worse and I can only imagine the bs they’re going spin to change the narrative. It’s not going to work. I expected to get angry about some of what was said in this interview but didn’t expect to feel so sad too.

-edited to add, these commercials are driving me crazy! never usually watch live tv these days, but I couldn’t wait!

    • Chaine says:

Bahaha I cracked up though at that one with Aaron Rodgers and the A-Aron guy from Key & Peele. Genius!

  185. Willow says:

Now I’m crying. These people. Someone tells they need help, they don’t want to be alive, and you just shut them down?! That is wrong.

  186. BabsORIG says:

Their intention was to bully her so that she would kill herself while pregnant and that would also kill Archie which erase the “blackness” from their bloodline. yeah, this family are ALL total shitholes

  187. betsyh says:

Is it a surprise she would feel suicidal when she is bombarded daily with hateful stories and comments? Also, why could the Firm not provide a counselor to come to Meghan, if she could not go to a hospital?

    • Chica1971 says:

That would mean there is a problem and they get to get rid of it

    • Lorelei says:

I wonder if HR was breaking any laws — to refuse help to someone who is telling you flat-out that they’re suicidal? To ACTIVELY PROHIBIT them from seeking medical help?! There must be some sort of guidelines that were not followed, JFC. That was criminal.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Wonder if BP’s newfound enthusiasm to “investigate bullying claims” will stretch to this? What would be the odds?

Speaking of criminal abuse… the media’s role. They’re still at it. It’s not journalism, it’s terrorism. Full stop.

  188. One of the marys says:

Wow she was suicidal JFC I really hadn’t thought it was that bad. No wonder Harry got her out of there. They looked so happy and relieved at Canada House right before the announcement and it all makes sense. Don’t ever go back Meg!

  189. Mariatia says:

Oh sweetie. This is so sad. God f THE QUEEN

  190. Belli says:

My heart is breaking for her. She’s so strong. Thank goodness Harry got her out of there.

  191. Dulcinea says:

Imagine Meghan Markle is nearly every black woman and the institution is the world and this is what life is like for many of us women of color women.
My heart breaks for her. What assholes! I’m glad she’s free.

  192. Nlopez says:

Thank God Meghan didn’t kill herself! The firm sucks!!

  193. Midnight@theOasis says:

Meghan hasn’t named any names but she doesn’t have to. Anyone who’s been following what’s been happening can put two and two together.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yup. Expect the courtiers to go into overdrive for the next week *at least*.

  194. Midnight@theOasis says:

    YESSSSSS. It’s a girl

  195. Sansa says:

this is legitimately heartbreaking and so much worse than we thought. beyond glad M&H got out. and it’s very clear that there will be no going back under a King Charles, much less Willy.

  196. Harper says:

    A GIRL!!!!

  197. CuriousCole says:

HELL YES IT’S A GIRL!!!!! And she’s due “summertime.”

    • Emm says:

      So happy for them!!

      • CuriousCole says:

I am too! I’m also dying to know if Kate is miffed she will no longer have the claim of being mum to Diana’s only granddaughter… although given the earlier bombshell, I suppose the bigger reaction would be William learning Diana will now have a second and biracial granddaughter.

  198. swirlmamad says:

IT’S A GIRL!!!!! OMG I AM SO HAPPY FOR THEM!

  199. Indiesr says:

    Yeah! It’s a girl!!!

  200. bamaborn says:

    It’s a GIRL!!

  201. Beach Dreams says:

Baby Girl Sussex is on the way!!!

  202. Feeshalori says:

YES!! I’m so happy for them!

  203. TheOriginalMia says:

    It’s a Girl!!! Yes!

  204. Alexandria says:

    F THE QUEEN!

  205. Mimi says:

    A GIRL YAAAAAAA

  206. Katherine says:

    Little girl Sussex!!!!!!!!

  207. K.T says:

Thank you celebitchies for all the comments so we can follow along! It’s sounds like so much trauma, on top of scary geo-politics that, I glad to be here with such caring commenters & all the CB writers. I know I’m going to need my partner, a plushie (maybe a stiff drink too) whenever I can get to see this epic interview. Yikes. Meghan, what she’s had to go through (while being pregnant x2) and still strong!!

  208. Amy Too says:

Thank god that baby girl won’t be living in that palace!! Thank GOD.

  209. (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

A GIRL!!! THEY’RE HAVING A GIRL!!! (Doriana?? Diana Doria??)

    • bettyrose says:

I love the idea of a tribute to their mothers, though I’ve always thought it’s a lot of pressure to be named for a relative (especially one you’ll never know). I look forward to the name reveal.

  210. livealot says:

“Doriana” for the name ?? lol. i hope they pay tribute to both moms some way.

    • CuriousCole says:

I kind of hope her name starts with a D, it’s a subtle tribute to both her grandmothers but doesn’t burden the little one with the full name.

  211. K.T says:

Baby Star Girl!!! Let’s wrapt this family in Teflon spun magic dust lol

  212. MsIam says:

Omg a girl! Cue the “Did the queen know?” stories. Congrats to them! <3 <3

  213. GOLDEN says:

The part about the RF family being concerned with the color of Archie’s skin broke my heart in two. What a horrible and abhorrently racist thing to say about a supposed member of your family. The look of pain on Meghan’s face made me burst into tears.

  214. Midnight@theOasis says:

Their security was taken away from them.

    • Liz version 700 says:

And they were so so close to actually killing her one way or the other dear God

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

This is what chilled my blood. We suspected they were trying to get her to miscarry, but it was 10x worse than that. When I saw that I paused the program and had to go to the bathroom, b/c I felt sure I was going to vomit I was so upset.

This morning I’m just straight fire angry. I’m like Naomi Kritzer right now, “I keep mentally writing AITA reddit posts on behalf of Harry and Meghan.”

  215. MaplePlains says:

I am riveted. A couple of initial thoughts…

    1) It’s amazing that Harry turned out to be a good person given the conditions he must have grown up with.

    2) I have so much respect for Meghan. No way would I be this diplomatic. Good for them for leaving.

  216. bettyrose says:

A GIRL!!! I’m just following along on the CBS blog, which is about 10 minutes behind this thread with updates, but OMG a girl! Not officially a princess, I know. Just a much loved and very lucky little girl.

  217. Seraphina says:

Harry, when questioned, about getting help – he added “to call the dogs off”. THAT was telling.

    • swirlmamad says:

Drip, drip, drip…..leaking like a sieve

    • North of Boston says:

Harry had a couple of asides, or follow on comments after he’d first answered a question. Often more frank or pointed than his first calm answer, like the ‘call the dogs off’ one.

That led to my only complaint about this interview – a couple of times when he did it, Oprah was starting in on her next question, and talked over him. I was leaning toward the tv saying “sush Oprah, hang on, Harry’s not finished! And he’s sharing some more details and truth”

      • Golly Gee says:

I could never stand watching Oprah for that reason. Just want her guest would start to say something interesting she would cut them off. It shows that she’s not really listening. She’s focused on what she wants to say or ask.

      • Jayna says:

My complaint also. Harry should have been able to talk more. Oprah moved on to fast several times when he wasn’t finished and even Meghan cut in several times. Let Harry talk.

  218. Sofia says:

It’s a girl! And summertime due date makes sense to me. I figured June possibly even July

    • CuriousCole says:

Are we hoping she avoids William’s birthday or completely overshadows it?

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

OMG can you imagine if she is born ON the day? NO ONE would care about Poor Billie the Basher.

      • swirlmamad says:

I hope she gives birth the day before, lol. The baby should not share a birthday with her evil uncle but it would be sweet poetic justice for her to be born right before his.

      • Beach Dreams says:

Avoids. She doesn’t need to share a birthday with that POS.

      • CuriousCole says:

The consensus seems to be hoping for a 20 June arrival, I love it 🙂 Although any time in the week prior to 21 June would effectively overshadow Willieleaks’ day, because we’d likely get the name or first pic released a few days after/closer to his actual birthday.

  219. Emm says:

Before he stopped taking my calls!!!!!! Omg!

  220. Mimi says:

“Talked to my grandmother 3 times and my father 2 times before he stopped taking my calls” – that says it all

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

CHARLES *STOPPED* TAKING HARRY’S CALLS???? OMFG!!!!!

      • Eleonora says:

        How dumb is he?

This is Diana’s son. The one good thing he seemed to do (at least in the press back then), was taking care of their sons after her death.

I can’t wait to see what young people who only know about the Diana/Charles thing about the Crown will say.

Saying that, they’re already at it on Clarence House instagram lol!

    • C-Shell says:

Also explains why Charles has been radio silent throughout this whole build up. Asshole.

  221. Indiesr says:

Oh damn! Prince Charles is being called OUT!

  222. TheOriginalMia says:

“Before he stopped taking his calls!” Ooh, Charles. There is it.

  223. Neners says:

“Before he stopped taking my calls.” Oop. Harry slipped that in! So there is a rift between Harry and Charles

  224. CuriousCole says:

Oh SNAP— Charles stopped taking Harry’s calls??!!! Charles was that bent out of shape that his son protected his family and his own mental health?? Holy Whoa.

    • H says:

I always HATED Charles after what he and The Firm did to Diana. I never forgave him. His true colours have always been there. Wow, Harry called out his father.

      • CuriousCole says:

And he appears to have learned no lesson from his ex-wife’s tragedy! This is unforgivable. Harry was begging for help to save his wife, his child, his sanity and his sole surviving parent turned his back on all three. Charles deserves William’s damaging rages. This is inspiring me to say Long Live the Queen, to shortchange Charles on throne time as much as possible because yes, I am feeling that petty right now.

      • Lady D says:

I’m right there with you, CuriousCole.

  225. swirlmamad says:

F*ck Charles. He stopped taking Harry’s calls?!???

  226. Becks1 says:

I LOVE that they did not talk about leaving until Harry was there, so Harry can own that.

    • Seraphina says:

I did not even pick up on that. Too distracted by switching between this post, Twitter and the actual interview.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

I keep thinking about how they wouldn’t let her have her passport/keys, then they were abusing them for using private flights, and then the whole thing we wondered about when Archie was left behind in North America this time last year while the Sussexes did their last official duties.

Pair THAT knowledge, with the leak that SHE WASN’T ALLOWED TO HAVE HER NAME ON ARCHIE’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE. They wanted to make sure that if she did manage to escape, she did so empty handed. They were going to use her kid as collateral to make her and/or Harry return. Even while they were denying the child any of the protections of the Royal Court.

Charles of Arabia has learned more than a few nasty tricks from the Saudi Royals, it would seem.

  227. Galena says:

Charles stopped taking his calls !!! I feel so bad for them, it’s so shocking to hear… Racist a holes

  228. Roo says:

    Charles stopped taking his calls!

  229. Busyann says:

Omg, did I hear that? Harry snuck that in. Charles stopped taking his calls?!!

    • Lorelei says:

The way that Harry just slipped that little bombshell in…I shrieked.

Glad that Charles was called out for the trash he’s shown himself to be over the past four years. Peaced out as soon as he was done enjoying the great PR he got for walking her down the aisle; not a single word of support for either of them ever since. He’s vile.

  230. Beach Dreams says:

I SWEAR Harry is going to be absolutely DONE with the RF after his grandparents pass. I had a feeling ever since the interview with Corden aired, but these comments about Charles just confirms it. Charles remains a lousy excuse of a father. He going to dearly regret doing this to the ONLY son who tried to defend him and have his back.

  231. windyriver says:

Charles stopped taking Harry’s calls? What?

    • Quincytoo says:

My husband is online gaming but heard that and said WTF? What kind of father stops taking his sons calls during this?
This family is disgusting and I’m hoping this interview brings them down
And so happy they are having a daughter 💕❤️

  232. Katherine says:

    Oh. My. God.

  233. Midnight@theOasis says:

Charles stopped taking Harry’s calls! So it’s both Charles and William. Harry only has a relationship with his grandparents.

  234. Sofia says:

    So fuck Charles

  235. Nlopez says:

I can’t stand charles. He didn’t learn anything from Diana death!!

  236. One of the marys says:

It makes sense why she enjoyed visiting the Hubb and Smart Works, they welcomed her and valued her and took away some of the loneliness, wow poor woman

  237. Little Red says:

    Charles stopped taking Harry’s calls!

This would seem to disprove the theories that Charles is quietly supportive of them.

  238. Ang says:

Wow. It was Charles all along.

  239. Harper says:

This is so dark. Is Oprah going to ask about William?

  240. Sarah says:

Holy damn, this is incredible. We are literally watching history being made. I think this might truly be the beginning of the end of the monarchy.

  241. Rose says:

Prince Charles stopped answering his son’s calls. How productive will he be as king? How will the everyday people of the commonwealth feel? He’s a joke. He needs to abdicate but William likely isn’t any better.

    #abolishthemonarchy

  242. OriginalLeigh says:

I’ve actually started to cry a few times while watching this interview… I knew that they had put Meghan through a lot but this is even worse than I imagined. Of course she had to come home.

  243. Ladiabla says:

Charles stopped taking his calls?! WTF

  244. Nikki (49) says:

to me, The Queen doesn’t come out bad in this, Kate doesn’t come out bad. William and Charles do.

    • Katherine says:

Because Meghan and Harry are smart AF and are playing the long game. Perfectly I might add.

      • Chica1971 says:

HM also set the the tabloids back on Charles and Will. ! By doing this and putting it all in open, attention is now directed back to C and W. The Rose story is game

      • Golly Gee says:

@Chica: The tablets know what’s what. But they will keep slamming Harry and Megan. This won’t make any difference. The tabs own the Royal family. Apparently there are Christmas parties held at the palace with the tabloid media as guests every year. As long as the royal family behaves and keeps giving them stories, they keep the bad stuff under wraps. I was just reading about this at the daily beast.

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, they are playing the long game. They are very smart. The Palace is incredibly stupid, especially after Diana.

  245. jaylee says:

Prince Charles has always been a POS. Diana is doing high kicks in heaven rn!!!

  246. Sofia says:

I also don’t want to hear a word from Charles about how sad he is about not seeing Archie and how he is misses Harry.

He’s a miserable and sorry excuse for a father

  247. Busyann says:

I want them to say some truth about Will. Say his name! It’s freightening that they have named every one but him.

  248. Mimi says:

    THE LITTLE MERMAID

  249. Liz version 700 says:

Her pain is so raw it is making me tear up

  250. Becks1 says:

“A very trapping environment” = oooh they are saying a lot here arent they?

  251. Edna says:

H&M have tossed a match on the Royal shit show in the most dignified way.

  252. MsIam says:

It makes sense now why Harry was so quick to put out there that Charles wasn’t providing financial support.

    • CuriousCole says:

No and what’s worse, Harry just told us that the family aka Charles cut him off financially in the “first quarter of 2020”!!!!!!

  253. Emm says:

My husband is cracking up at my reactions and then trying to quickly explain everything to him during commercials. I’m trying to tell him what we all have talked about here and how it relates to what they are saying lol.

    • Seraphina says:

My husband called them the equivalent of the Kardashians and is in the man cave.

  254. Becks1 says:

This is an amazing interview. I’m going to need to rewatch it because I know I’m missing a lot of the “between the lines” reading.

  255. Mimi says:

I bet Diana is proud of her son rn

  256. Becks1 says:

Ahhhh I see the plan now. Let Harry drag his family, let Meghan drag the institution.

  257. K.T says:

Reading along thought: this sequel to Get Out is bonkers

  258. Anna says:

So happy I’m awake at this godforsaken hour (2:20 am here in the UK) to be here reading all the comments. xx

    • CuriousCole says:

This interview is seismic, I hope our comments are reflecting that, enough to sustain you until it airs in the UK. Interestingly, Harry just said he still “loves William to bits.”

  259. Indiesr says:

    Tell it Harry!

  260. TheOriginalMia says:

Tell your truth, Harry! Tell it! Shame on you, Charles! That’s your son. That’s your blood.

  261. Mimi says:

I was a huge fan of the royal fam before this honestly I woke up at 4 am for will and kates wedding like huge fan! But after this… idk…

  262. Emm says:

Ok I’m kind of getting scared for them now. With everything that they are saying and the things Harry is telling us that we don’t formally know. Although we all knew there was an invisible contract.

Poor Harry and his awful family.

  263. Leah Ludwig says:

Harry is clearly done with his family. Good for him for saving himself, Meghan and Archie!

  264. Indiesr says:

When the family saw how incredibly she is at the job….everything changed!

  265. TheOriginalMia says:

We said it was the success of the Oceania tour. We said it! We been knew!

  266. Midnight@theOasis says:

OMG. Harry admits that it was the Oceana tour that set everything off. They were jealous of her.

  267. Emm says:

Oprah is ALL of us celebitches right now.

  268. me50 says:

I bet any money that Harry thinks his mother’s death wasn’t an accident.

  269. MCG says:

This is Earth shattering. I do not see how the BRF survives after this. Absolutely stunning. Poor Harry, Meghan, Archie and new baby girl… nothing but healing , loving vibes to them all forever.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I agree, I would have said earlier that I think like cockroaches they will live on, but now I think Charles the Cowardly and William the Incandescent should never be king

  270. Oatmeal says:

Boy they are telling it ALL!

  271. BabsORIG says:

Y’all, Meg’s GOT all the receipts. I think they’re daring them, she keeps saying “I wrote to them”, gal has her receipts. Better be on notice.

  272. Anna says:

Harry noticing how it all changed after their Australia tour – bitches we been saying this from day one.

  273. Becks1 says:

Harry felt trapped and didnt see a way out. oh this is so good.

  274. MaplePlains says:

Harry seems angry AF. Rightfully so.

  275. Indiesr says:

Harry says he was trapped, but didn’t know it! The forever third wheel he was he didn’t even notice.

    • Beach Dreams says:

I’ve always thought that meeting Meghan really opened his eyes to the treatment he had since childhood. Like YES, he was aware of it on some level but he likely became accustomed to it and resigned himself to the role he was given. It wasn’t until he met Meghan that he truly saw the potential to live differently.

      • Indiesr says:

Definitely. I’m so glad they got out. I wish them the absolute best. My heart goes out to them.

  276. Mimi says:

    “Trapped”

  277. Katherine says:

They’re literally saying everything we’ve ever suspected. I… I… wow.

  278. (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Oh man…after “hearing” all this in here… I can’t WAIT to watch it, knowing what’s coming (to be able to listen for all the “nuance”).

To think his father is GHOSTING his son… What a MISERABLE excuse of skin. Hey, GB, THIS is what you want for your next king?? Or his equally wormy, racist heir??

    • Katherine says:

Oh great point! I was feeling bad about spoilers but this has been so explosive I almost feel like you need to watch with some of the surprise taken away so you CAN pick up on all the details.

    • Amy Too says:

And ghosting him, not taking his calls, AFTER HE CUT OFF THEIR SECURITY! What if Harry was calling for help? To say he was in danger? You can’t cut off someone’s security, leak their location to the press, also smear them and make it seem like they’re telling the royal family to F off and “blindsiding” everyone thus riling up all the Sussex haters and putting them in MORE danger, when they have a BABY, and a suicidal wife!

I didn’t think it was Charles. I didn’t think he was that bad. I thought he was weak and cowardly but otherwise supportive behind the scenes. Lesson learned. F*ck Charles, now.

      • Liz version 700 says:

F $$$ Charles from here to eternity. Never make him King, make William do it and destroy the whole thing now. None of these people should be in charge of a hamster much less large estates

      • Lorelei says:

@AmyToo, same — I knew Charles was an asshole, but didn’t think he was THIS bad. And I thought it was very possible that he was quietly helping them financially. Quite the opposite!

Jesus Christ. Good luck ever coming back from this, Chuck.

      • zinjazin says:

Eh forget about “sussexhaters” he is a military and is wanted by IS who put a price on him ffs.
This is extremely serious and Harry was obviously making a security decision. Taking aeay their security is really hostile enemy action on behalf of Charles. Its incredible that he would do that to his son and grandchild and dil.
Very serious and shocking and sad this whole saga.

  279. Becks1 says:

Also, let’s just reiterate what a good interviewer Oprah is. She’s warm and comforting and has always reminded me of my mom (lol), and she is getting some really good tidbits here. Its like a trail of breadcrumbs. “there was a conversation with……”

Lots of royal courtiers are toast.

    • Chaine says:

I wish she didn’t interrupt though. There are a couple times where it seemed like Harry was about to say more and she cut him off.

      • North of Boston says:

        +1

It may be partly due to Harry and Meghan’s different speaking styles. Meghan tended to pause more before answering or during the first part of her answer while she was choosing her words.
Harry would answer carefully in a complete sentence, but then pause, as thought he’d said what he’d planned to say. But then it was like he felt free to provide more details so he’d throw out a few more things. His last comments on each question were sometimes the most revealing, like the sequence where he was talking about asking his family for help. “I asked them for help, for support.” pause “and to call off the dogs”

      • Golly Gee says:

@NofB: no, Oprah always interrupts her guests. I had to stop watching her show because I found that so irritating. As soon as they would start to say something interesting she was already onto the next thing showing that she was not listening. This does not make her a good interviewer. She has lots of power and so she gets the good interview subjects but her interviews could be so much better If she would “read the room” rather than focusing on what she wants to say.

  280. Edna says:

Y’all….can you believe the shit we are hearing. OMG…I didn’t think they’d go there but they did. So proud of them.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I am stunned and Harry has no bleeps left to give. They wanted his is to be a target omg omg omg

    • bamaborn says:

But they’re saying even the dogs were not happy. Can’t imagine what they were going thru. Mercy!

      • Sid says:

Remember the story about Meghan’s dog Guy ending up with a broken leg back when they were living in Nottigham Cottage? Was that just an accident or something shadier?

  281. TheOriginalMia says:

Harry pulling the veil back from the monarchy. Having empathy for his father & brother because they are trapped within an institution makes him a better person than either of them.

    • CuriousCole says:

Yes and he’s better loved by everyone for it!!! I do love that he talks about having spoken to his grandmother “more in the last year” than most of his life. We definitely miscalculated about her level of supportive involvement.

      • Chaine says:

But it begs the question, if she is so supportive, why is Harry being cut off financially, security withdrawn, etc.? Seems that she is just a figurehead now and Charles is the true power behind the throne.

      • Feeshalori says:

Yes, l believe now she’s queen in name only and Charles is monarch in everything but name only.

    • HeyJude says:

Harry’s the King Of Hearts, one could say!

    • Lorelei says:

They said so much, but I feel like there was still a LOT they were holding back. What could be worse than what was revealed tonight?!

  282. betsyh says:

Harry said his father and brother are trapped and he feels great compassion for them. God being a royal is AWFUL. Also begs the question, who are the jailers?

  283. Nev says:

    Wowowoowowowowowwowowowowowowowoowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowoowowowowowowowowowowowowowo.
I say that and we knew it.

  284. Lexilla says:

Good, Oprah’s coming back to the issue of Archie’s skin color.

  285. Midnight@theOasis says:

They cut him off financially and took away his security!

  286. Becks1 says:

They cut him off a year ago!!!!! that means Charles!!! Holy eff. They were really like “good bye, good luck, have fun, see you in a year!”

    • betsyh says:

I wonder after watching this if it really is just Charles who makes these decisions or his “advisers.”

    • Sid says:

Meanwhile Charles was out here leaking to the press that he was paying for their security and expenses. Clown!

      • JT says:

But then they got mad when H&M signed deals with Netflix and Spotify. They really wanted them to be broke scraping for money.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Supreme jackass ong Charles is WIESE THAN DIANA TOLD US SHE WAS HOLDING BACK

      • BabsORIG says:

Yeah, this calls into question all the Diana refused security blah blah blah nonsense. No, they cut off her security and then leaked lies that she refused it. They were falling back to the trick that finished Diana, they were sure that yanking security and cutting off cash would result in Harry, Meghan and Archie getting killed too.

      • Sid says:

ITA Babs. I know Diana was no saint, but this calls into question a LOT of the stuff that was “revealed” about Diana in the years after her death during the time period when Charles kicked off Operation Rehab Camilla’s and My Reputations.

      • ArtHistorian says:

It is an abusive tactic – designed to punish them and/or bring them back into the fold. It is common for abusers to use financial means to retain power over their victims.

  287. MsIam says:

This is a good interview. Oprah is not afraid to circle back and ask questions. I’m glad Harry is the one emphasizing the part racism has played in all of this. He’s keeping it real. And him saying the part about being trapped, ooo wheee!!!!

  288. Quincytoo says:

Omg listerning to Harry to try to make amends for his father and brother right now just makes me weep
    And again Archies skin tone
    It was Willnot
    I hate the royal family

  289. Becks1 says:

She should carry on acting because there wouldnt be money to pay for her. WTF. WTF. WTF.

    • Indiesr says:

I thought I heard that wrong! Omg! So that was really what was said! Omg!

    • Natters5 says:

She would have been even more crucified if she had carried on acting. Damned if she does damned if she doesn’t.

    • ArtHistorian says:

They are one of the richest family in the world FFS! How mean and tight-fisted do you have to be to say this when you have more money that you and your entire family will ever be able to spend.

BTW, this is why the Times article had that weird bit about them offering to help Meghan find acting roles. They feared that she would spill this particular cup of tea.

  290. Sofia says:

    God bless Diana

  291. JRenee says:

Thank God Diana left him money. She was smart enough to see the spare wouldn’t be protected.
Harry fe look t trapped before he met Meghan, glad he got out!

  292. Jack says:

This has been Charles and him protecting W&K and the institution.

  293. bettyrose says:

Gonna sign off for some Sunday night self care before the 8pm west coast broadcast. Thanks so much to all the CBs for sharing this event. As I said above, in some ways. I’m glad I heard it all from you first and had time to process before watching because . . . this is intense. I’m sure we’ll have plenty to discuss in the days to come. **hugs**

  294. Emm says:

Is anyone scared for them? I’m just worried people are going to really do something to them because the tabloids are not above anything.

  295. Mimi says:

Not sharing the race convo… you can tell he’s just totally pissed about it and honestly don’t blame him for saying bc ONE DAY Archie will watch this

  296. Busyann says:

The BRF is toast. This has been great, but to be honest….this makes me worried for them even more. It isnt like Diana was killed in Great Britain you know. That happened away from London.

    • Indiesr says:

I share this sentiment. I truly worry about their safety. The firm can reach them anywhere in the world.

      • lanne says:

But I don’t think they would survive the death of Meghan and Harry. Especially now.

      • HeyJude says:

They made point to say numerous times they have their own security now and the deals they did funded that. Those deal are so big they’ll probably be able to fund security forever for them with investments growing the funds.

That was not mentioned repeatedly by chance. It was a warning to the henchman inside the firm, Rupert Murdoch’s mobster press, and various obsessed persons who might get horrible ideas that they are protected. There won’t be any random accidents in tunnels with them.

This interview was done in part as a warning to lay off them for sure, IMO. They have physical security for their safety and that they still have secrets to tell still if people around the royal family don’t back off from harassing them in the press too.

    • SwirlmamaD says:

MAybe, but there is no way something could happen to them and it would not be connected back to the Firm. It would be WAY too obvious. In a way, speaking out ensures their safety, I feel.

  297. TheOriginalMia says:

I don’t even know what to say about Charles. That’s his son. That’s his grandson. And the fucking institution is more important to him. I had hoped his silence was a chess move, instead of fucking cowardice. And I definitely don’t see Harry & William repairing that relationship anytime soon, since the conversations about Meghan and affording her and Archie were with him. No doubt.

    • Lanie says:

It’s cowardice. We’ve seen him do this before.

    • swirlmamad says:

He’s weak and a coward. That institution is all he knows. He doesn’t have the balls to stand up for his own child and do the right thing. Great future king ya got there, Britain.

    • Deering24 says:

The Firm Is Mother. The Firm Is Father. The Firm Is All. The Firm Is Love. 🤮🤮🤮

      • Liz version 700 says:

He stands up for everyone but the brown kid who isn’t going to get a title or protection from the crazy racists

  298. lanne says:

I said a few days ago that the royal family created another Diana, but the difference here is that Meghan had the love that Diana didn’t have. THIS is the love story of the century. The royal family are the villains. They deserve all the opprobrium that’s coming their way. No wonder the palace was terrified. The royal family failed Meghan and Harry. Utterly failed.

    • Indiesr says:

Now they really need to produce Megan and Harry life in a new movie…the true story

      • Jules says:

That’s exactly what I told my daughter after watching; they should make a movie of this. I hope they have nothing but happiness and huge success and many children and grandchildren to show up that horrible “family” they left behind.

      • ArtHistorian says:

A movie WILL be made of this – in a decade or two. It’s too good a story. A great love story for the ages.

  299. H says:

You notice Harry has said nothing bad about Granny. That’s smart. Charles can rot!

  300. windyriver says:

Well, that clarifies what Charles’ position has been. He’s really been a sh*t beyond anything I imagined.

But it is interesting to hear what Harrt says about the fear inherent in the family bc of the relationship between them and the media. What a f*ucking twisted mess.

  301. Beach Dreams says:

Harry hopped, skipped, and JUMPED over that question about William. Basically said the same canned lines he uttered in the SA documentary. I think the chances for healing in that relationship are even lower than that of the relationship with Charles.

    • SwirlmamaD says:

There’s been a lot of damage done with his father, but he showed way more emotion in his response regarding his relationship with Charles than he did regarding William. That to me is telling — when it comes to his dad, he still cares and maybe with time they would mend things. With Will, that canned/glossed over response makes me think he just doesn’t give a sh*t anymore.

      • Jayna says:

I took it to mean because he was speaking a little with his dad now he could say that. He and William are obviously not speaking at all, so he had a canned, very stilted response so as not to have to admit how completely fractured and estranged they are.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Yeah no effort to shorten that distance anytime soon. That ship sailed, hit the bridge and knocked out the power lines. No communication

  302. Chaine says:

A certain brother must be incandescent right now.

  303. BabsORIG says:

The straw that broke the Harry camel’s back was the questions William asked him before the Sussexes even got married. “so you marrying this black “girl”, have you considered what the kids’ skin color will LOOK LIKE”?

    • Becks1 says:

And that was before she was even pregnant, right? If I’m interpreting that correctly? This family really is the worst.

    • Indiesr says:

I think this was maybe asked at the beginning of them dating, maybe this is the exact reason for the fallout between the brothers!

      • SomeChick says:

        Bingo. Bingo bingo bingo.

“What would the kids look like?” it started when they were dating and got worse and worse.

and people still think Diana’s death was accidental. they took away her security too. it’s the modern equivalent of “off with their heads!”

  304. Edna says:

So Charlotte won’t be Diana’s only granddaughter.

    • CuriousCole says:

That was my second thought after finding out the sex! I posted upthread, I’m curious who’s stonier faced about that, Kate or William.

    • Lorelei says:

Kate is going to be SO pissed

  305. Emm says:

I can’t believe that they tried to say they couldn’t afford security for one woman.

    • Sid says:

Emm, my jaw hit the ground. They were really not going to provide security for the daughter-in-law of the future king. Meanwhile the “alleged” sex offender in the family still has his security detail to this day.

  306. Mimi says:

Honestly never thought the queen was blindsided. Harry always has respect for his granny.

  307. BabsORIG says:

The Sussexes have a chicken scoop too, oh I love this.

  308. Sof says:

I don’t know, judging by the way he talked about them, I’m more inclined to believe that it was Charles behind most of the hate campaign. Which I always believed because c’mon, he is suspiciously absent from all these stories, whereas William is mentioned in a bad way.

Edit to correct some spelling, sorry, I type as I listen.

    • Jayna says:

I took it to be mostly Charles too. Charles is old school. He’s entrenched in the monarchy. He now has more power. He was able to have Camilla and marry her. He never understood Diana’s pain and was jealous of her popularity. He lived through his miserable life as a young royal and a middle-age royal and a lot of hate over Camilla and what he did to Diana. His thought is: “Suck it up , Buttercups. And, Harry, don’t let your wife get too popular while you’re at it (Iwill not be overshadowed again), and let your wife know not to come in and shake up the monarchy with any innovative ideas as just a lowly spare-heir’s wife. Just tell her to smile and fade into the bland BRF. In ten years or so, after you’ve been through hell and back, the press will move on to someone else. It’s not so bad.”

  309. Midnight@theOasis says:

This could have been a 4 hour interview.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Seriously. There’s SO MUCH they’ve revealed and I didn’t expect it. I could easily go for a part two to this interview.

    • CuriousCole says:

There’s more! Oprah is releasing more footage tomorrow!!!

  310. Indiesr says:

He definitely not having a relationship with his brother

  311. Zatfig&Kitty says:

    Archie: “Drive safe.”

    So cute!

    • North of Boston says:

      It IS!

And what I especially love about it is that kid’s are little mimics … they pick up what their parents do. So that means that he’s heard Harry and Meghan say that to people heading out of their home “drive safe” …. it’s a normal everyday thing, but also a caring thing, and it gives another little peak into who they are.

  312. Elizabeth says:

Hm I see the commenters who like to post about how Charles is so hard-working and really maligned by Diana and Philip “wrote” 40-50 books and gave +/-50,000 speeches and the queen worked as a mechanic for a while seventy years ago and who cares if they use racist language or imagery… you seem to be skipping the usual litany tonight.

Fuck Charles, fuck his ravening parents, fuck Andrew the “war hero”, the little gray men, all the rest of them. And don’t bother responding with how many speeches Andrew has given.

    • Seraphina says:

Charles has not learned ANYTHING. He is a horrid person. One would think he would be remorseful after what he did to his first wife, the mother of his sons – BUT NO. He decides to sink to a new level – his own flesh and blood. He is a horrible person who has not grown at all. And it speaks volumes of Cams to be with such a TURD.

      • Nic919 says:

This was probably the most devastating to Charles than any of them. Also Billy is a close second.

And Meghan was too nice to Kate. She never cleared up the lie about the crying story. But she sure as fuck send out a press release about baby botox during that time. Meghan is a nicer person than me.

      • Deering24 says:

“There is no Charles—only Zuul…er, The Firm.” 😳😉

      • windyriver says:

And the beauty is, a substantial portion of the entire world will be seeing this, for themselves, in the next 24 hours. Up front and personal. And there’s not a damn thing the usual RF and media suspects, so skilled at twisting and diverting a narrative, can do about it. Happy Commonwealth Day Charles!

      • booboocita says:

I’m trying hard to remember the name of the journalist/writer who wrote of Charles that he was an incredibly un-self aware man. He *thinks* he considers all opinions and viewpoints, but he surrounds himself with sycophants who tell him only what he wants to hear, so he never really hears any other views other than his own. The writer said he would have been a decent king for the 19th century, but in the 21st, he was woefully unsuited. I’m sure Charles asked his little court for opinions of Meghan, and they told him what they thought he wanted to hear: “not our class, sir.” And that gave him all the impetus he needed to toss her under the bus.

I don’t know how PWBT or Ofwilliam will come out of this. H&M were surprisingly diplomatic and kind (“Kate is a good person” -? Wow). And for all the speculation about PWBT being the one who brought up skin tone, it could very well have been someone else in the family; after all, they’re all pretty damn bigoted. But Charles’s reputation is FRIED. Toast. Burnt to a crisp. Refusing to take his son’s calls? Unable to acknowledge his son’s and daughter-in-law’s pain, despite having experienced something similar. Fuck right off, Chucky.

    • Isabelle says:

There have been time I have felt bad for Charles. Basically because he wasn’t allowed to marry Camilla, married Diana was for show, controlled by the Queen…but after this interview. Zero empathy for him. No wonder the Queen has kept a tight hand on him. He is a hot mess.

    • Jules says:

I really dislike this entire family. The queen doesn’t get a pass because supposedly *she* makes the rules. If she’s not and is being controlled by others, she needs to step back, and if she is, she made some horrible decisions. That being said, they are all loathesome starting with Tampon Man. Do these people ever learn?!

  313. Mimi says:

“Greater than any fairytale you’ve ever read”… honestly amazing. Harry deserves a happy life

  314. Lanie says:

Not one mention of the Markles.

    They’re gonna be so mad!

    • Nic919 says:

My dad was watching and thought her father was dead because she mentions losing her father but he didn’t realize it was said more metaphorically.

    • Ang says:

Meg said “I lost my father”. Period.

    • SwirlmamaD says:

Only to say “I lost my father.” They are dead to her, as they should be.

  315. Beach Dreams says:

Oprah wasn’t exaggerating when she called this the best interview she ever did. This really was an incredible interview, far beyond what I had hoped it would be.

  316. Seraphina says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, WTH OPRAH. More teasers! I can’t take another night. UGH

  317. Lanie says:

There’s follow up on CBS This Morning! I think I need to work from home in the morning!

  318. BabsORIG says:

I HAVE. TO. WATCH. Gaile, Oprah and Tony on This morning tomorrow, rain or shine.

  319. Midnight@theOasis says:

This was awesome. Oprah is a good interviewer. She knows how to circle back and get people to answer questions.

  320. betsyh says:

One thing I thought I heard is that the Firm expected Meghan to continue acting to support herself after she wed Harry. Is that right??????

    • Emm says:

Yes because they couldn’t “afford” her security. Are effing kidding me??

    • HeyJude says:

Yes. They mentioned that to her as an option. I didn’t have time to include it in my recap further up in the moment.

    • Deering24 says:

Heh. Like they wouldn’t have spiked every single role she tried for—except ones “proper” for a Stepford Royal or that would humiliate her. 🤮🤮😡😡 Grace Kelly wanted to take a Hitchcock role after she was married, but the Monaco men-in-grey nixed it.

      • Golly Gee says:

Imagine what the tabloids would’ve done with that! “Megan needs so much attention that she has gone back to acting in order to get it. The royal family is mortified.“ Plus denigrating any role that she took.

      • Deering24 says:

Golly—yep, yep, and yep. And the tabloid coverage would have made any production she was on a security nightmare. No way she would have gotten big/franchise roles because of media leaks. And eventually, studios and production companies would quit hiring her because it would be too much of a hassle. Theater would be even worse.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I was speechless. What the hell

      • Lorelei says:

I had to rewind to make sure I’d heard her correctly, because I thought there was no way that actually could have been said, it was so insane

  321. H says:

I feel like Diana has been vindicated. Harry got the life and love she always wanted and never got from the RF by leaving to forge his own path. The stupid family never learns.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

She has been vindicated. I’m sure she’s smiling down on them.

      • Jayna says:

But she would be beyond saddened about William and Harry’s fractured relationship, and don’t think for a second she wouldn’t be torn and listening to both sides and agreeing to some of the things each son was saying. William would be in her ear as much as Harry. But she would be glad her son, Harry, found true love? Absolutely. Would she be glad his happiness would mean leaving the Royal Family because of all of the vitriol? Absolutely. She wants her sons to be happy.

But people thinking Diana would always be supportive 100 percent of Meghan and/or her decisions are dreaming. Diana had issues with everyone at some time or another, periods of not speaking to them. I see her having issues with each daughter-in-law at times. But Diana would have been disgusted by the way Meghan was treated by the viscious press, attacked daily, and she would have understood Meghan’s pain living under the firm’s thumb and how closed in she felt.

    • Alexandria says:

I don’t know what word to use…maybe serendipitous that Harry married the one woman who could actually match Diana’s strength and hard work? While he did save Meghan, Meghan saved him too and these are their own words! So did Diana send Meghan to Harry? My. Mind. Is. Blown.

I was also thinking of the Celebitches who theorised correctly about who saved who… I’m very sure some said they saved each other and that turns out to be true…this is a real fairy tale! I’m shook!

Also I hope Oprah’s team picks up some of our talking points!!

      • North of Boston says:

There was also Harry’s comments about how he’s the last person to be all “woo woo” about stuff, but that he feels something… bigger than them, unseen, can’t remember his actual words … was in play to bring he and Meghan together, that it was meant to be and they wound up saving each other.

    • GGRosebud says:

Turning over in her grave more like

  322. Liz version 700 says:

They cut him off financially Nd cut his security and told him his brown baby was not worthy of security. And I promise you tomorrow’s Daily Mail headline will read” Will is Incandescent with Rage that Harry has Compassion for him”

    • betsyh says:

I think tomorrow’s Fail headline is that Meghan said a family member made a racially charged comment, but Harry wouldn’t discuss it, so Meghan was just trying to play the race card to gain sympathy.

    • J.Mo says:

I wish I had a brown baby right now so I could start a hashtag but mine is 18 yrs old.

  323. aquarius64 says:

The BRF cut him off. Damn. Glad Harry had his mother’s inheritance.

    We just saw Archie!!!!!!

Relations with Harry’s dad is bad but Harry will work on it. Meghan is done with her father. I lost my father.

  324. lanne says:

These royal racist assholes are toxic. They don’t ever learn any lessons. Meghan and Harry are finally free. What a story! Cain and Unable now have the whole stage to themselves. They deserve all the misery coming their way. My only sadness is for those kids. George, Charlotte, and Louis will play this same damn play because no one over there ever learns. It will be worse for Charlotte and Louis because of social media, and no one will prepare them. What a miserable, miserable toxic place the royal institution is.

    • HeyJude says:

I am very, very scared about what the future will hold for George, Charlotte and Louis trapped in this toxic system. I was worried before this, but after, my god the prospects are terrifying. Their lives will not be easy no matter what it seems.

If they stay in the system and stay ignorant, taught nothing by the firm they’ll be endless press fodder offered up to shield the future Kings, so tormented by scandal. If they feel longing to escape like Harry had inklings of, this is what they might have to face- an entire taxpayer funded institution designed to abuse them for wanting free.

      • ArtHistorian says:

Those 3 children deserve better than what they are going to get. It makes me so sad to think of their future. I wonder whether Kate isn’t sometimes quietly afraid for them – because I don’t think that she has any power in this family/institution. Not where it really matters.

  325. Stephie says:

I wish this had been a series, could and would love to listen to them for hours. Want more! So glad they wanted to do this. I hope this gives them more support.

  326. Timmer says:

My wife’s take away was the present tense reference by M to Kate as a good person and the quite frankly appalling lack of support by the administrative institution that runs the monarchy.

  327. Gk says:

The big deal – Commonwealth day- but we the royal family are concerned with skin color….

It’s not about Kate- whose probably breathing a sigh of relief as she’s been described as a good person.
    My bet is Charles/William

    • MsIam says:

She just set that dummy Kate up. She proved she’s a lying snake who tried to make Meghan look bad. And now she is supposedly going to testify that Meghan is a bully after Meghan just showed Kate was caught in a lie. Plus how can she come for Meghan after Meghan just called her a good person, lol? That makes Kate look like a bully. And the crazy thing is, this interview was taped before all this other stuff jumped off!

  328. Christine says:

Taking away both security and money is sick! That family is disgusting!

  329. betsyh says:

It sounds like the royal family is driven by fear of bad press and that informs all their actions. They try to fly under the radar and if another member is drawing off bad press from them all the better.

    • Emm says:

Exactly and that’s what worries me. They are so intertwined with the tabloids and the RR and there is so much money at stake. They RF can’t fail for a lot people, that’s not an option.

    • North of Boston says:

They are like the British version of Republicans in US Congress: They will do whatever it takes, however vile, however dishonest or cruel to remain in power and destroy anyone who sees things differently or just wants to live their lives in peace.

    • Deering24 says:

Eheheh. One of the best parts of the interview was the shade Oprah threw at the RF being so at the tabloids’ mercy. “But aren’t they the _Palace_?”

      • Alexandria says:

I loved it when Oprah said that openly (maybe deliberately) because saying it openly shows how stupid the whole arrangement is. And the UK people are funding this stupidity.

  330. Nic919 says:

What a look that they keep Andrew’s security but are so quick to cut off the security of the one who has had actual death threats. You know the FBI can provide Andrew with some protection for free.

  331. C-Shell says:

Now, I’m crying over how helpless Doria had to feel, while Meghan was in the darkest place, heavily pregnant, and totally cut off from all support but for Harry — thousands of mile away. 😭

    • Sid says:

C-Shell I am still sitting here reading comments and trying to process it all. This was intense.

  332. Emm says:

They are both stronger than I am, my five year old can send me over the edge these days so I can’t imagine I would survive what they have been through. I’m so glad they are out and finally have relief but I hope they have good security for the rest of their lives because damn.

  333. Wiglet Watcher says:

Major thank you to HeyJude for the play by play!!!!!!!

    • HeyJude says:

You’re welcome, I was just here anyways and do quick reporting like that in my local news job.

Sorry for the crappy grammar and syntax though. I had my COVID shot days ago and have a slight fever from it. I’m not up to my usual snuff and just wanted to get the info out as quickly as possible.

  334. Eulalia says:

As someone who suffered post-natal depression and went to a very dark place, I burst into tears when Meghan admitted she was suicidal whilst pregnant. It completely broke my heart. F*** THE WINDORS.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I was crying too, to be told your baby isn’t worth protecting but all the white babies are my God

  335. Nina Simone says:

(Sidenote: 600 comments and counting! ) most commented post ever?

    • DL says:

LMAO, not even close. I take it you weren’t around when Cumberbatch announced his engagement?

  336. Neners says:

This was such an emotional experience. It’s going to take days for me to process it.

  337. Sofia says:

So KP did all of that aka the bullying allegations only for Meghan to come out and say Kate is a good person and nothing that’s directly negative about William

    • Liz version 700 says:

Except at the end …space… he isn’t even bother to try to reconcile with Will

  338. kerwood says:

That was a master-class in ‘celebrity interviewing’. I’ve never been a huge Oprah fan but she was incredible. And as far as Harry and Meghan goes, it was a master-class in revenge. That’s how you do it. Cool and calm because it’s a dish best served cold.

I remember back in the day and I said several times that the royal family wanted Meghan and her baby dead. Looks like I was right. They wanted to drive her to suicide so they could blame it on her mental instability. And they could be rid of the ‘negress’ and the child of indeterminate colour. But Meghan and Harry had built a bond that was stronger than ‘the Firlm’.

There is no doubt in my mind that William is the one who brought up Archie’s colour. It was probably when he was trying to persuade Harry to wait before he married Meghan. I don’t think Charles is that evil but I’m so disappointed that he’s such a weak man. Harry is his SON. Charles is loaded. He could have paid for the Sussexes security and never even noticed the money was gone.

I have to admit that I’m glad that the Queen isn’t as terrible as I feared. At least she’s still talking to Harry. But the richest woman on earth couldn’t throw a few pounds her grandson’s way? What kind of people are these.

The British media is going to go into a frenzy. Part of me is glad that Harry and Meghan told it all and part of me is scared for them. The media and the haters are sick people and Harry and Meghan better beef up their security.

I didn’t think it would be as good as it turned out to be. So glad I tuned in.

    • Emm says:

She nailed it. She asked all the questions we all wanted answered and she put up evidence of the contrasting headlines between Kate and M like we wanted. All the nasty shit the British press put out there she showed it.

I said it in my above comments a couple of times but yeah I hope they also have great security because people are freaking the eff out and a lot of the people who will be the most upset about this interview are the crazy racists that will do crazy things.

    • Jayna says:

The Queen is too busy throwing a lot of money Andrew’s way.

    • Lorelei says:

@Kerwood I agree with most of what you said, but I still think the Queen is pretty terrible, tbh. I think Harry is smart to play up the relationship and his respect for her; that’s one thing the tabloids won’t be able to criticize him for.

But she’s one of the richest people in the world, and she’s allowing her grandson — arguably the one who needs it the most — to go without security? She could have paid for it privately. Same goes for Charles. It wouldn’t have made a dent in their personal fortunes, but they simply…chose not to.

And the fact remains that she never uttered a single word to, as Harry said, “call off the dogs,” when we all know she has the capability to have done it if she wanted to. I think they’re both horrific people and Harry is too kind toward them both.

      • ArtHistorian says:

Yeah, I think that the Queen has much to answer for and that Harry is too kind to her. But she’s also his grandmother and it sounds like she’s the only person in the family who has actually been kind to them and sometimes you just cling to the one person who throws out some of the only crumbs of affection that you actually get in a a toxic and abusive family.

      • Nana says:

Interesting how long the “Charles would pay for their security from his Duchy of Cornwall fortune” narrative has been allowed to hang out there for so long, without being corrected…

  339. Jojo says:

So Meghan(the mixed race woman) is a liar who sucks but Harry (the white man) doesn’t suck and isn’t a liar? SMH

  340. Princess Caroline says:

Y’all I am SHOOK!!! Too many jaw dropping moments to even comprehend. All I know is I’m setting alllllll the alarms to watch Gayle & Oprah tomorrow morning!

  341. Alexandria says:

The UK is more diverse now. What happened…I really pity the POC in the UK.

    • Nana says:

Murdoch gutter press happened to the UK media and Crosby Textor happened to UK politics. The latter honed their craft in Australia with wedge politics here, thanks to the successive conservative governments in the late 90s and through the 2000s and 2010s, getting them repeatedly voted back in on the basis of classic racist, wedge politics. David Cameron hired them in the UK and that’s where race politics went downhill – right back to the pre 1980s, with skinheads running in the streets.

  342. Escondista says:

Name that little girl Diana!!!! … or whatever you want, H&M. Lovely namesake but lots of baggage. Love these two and glad they got out.

  343. Deering24 says:

I would bet William harped on Archie’s skin color. Right up his racist alley.

  344. MsIam says:

Oprah is gonna have to do a follow up. She did not get into the Markles, plus what about the bullying allegations against Meghan that came later? Also, I wish we had Doria’s perspective too.

  345. Jayna says:

It was a good interview. I wished Harry had talked a little more than he did. Oprah did a fabulous job. Meghan was amazing. I love Harry. I’m so excited it’s a little girl.

All the Royal Family had to do was stage quite a few photo-ops at opportune times at certain stages to quell the narrative being put out by the press. And who are they fooling? It was disgusting that no one in that family or issued verbal support t to the press when the attacks were nonstop.

It didn’t have to be like this and to this extreme. They could have still been a part of the Royal Family to a degree. The Royal Family cutting off its nose to spite its face.

  346. Kapowie says:

It has to be charles, right? He’s the one who is the (sad) lil puppetmaster?

  347. February-Pisces says:

I’m in the uk, it’s 3.55am wtf is happening? Omg I woke up cos I couldn’t take the suspense.

    • Emm says:

It was everything and much much more. I don’t think I picked my jaw up off the ground for an entire two hours. It’s all worse than you thought.

      • Anna says:

Hi, I’m in the UK and I’m trying to find a full video of it online as I do not trust ITV showing the full thing.

      • February-Pisces says:

Omg, I’m just going off from the comments alone.

    • Liz version 700 says:

It was like an atom bomb of information. So so much

    • TheGirlByTheSea says:

I’m in the UK as well. Just reading through the headlines. The way Harry & Meghan have been and still are being treated is awful. I thought the interview might have a few bombshells but I wasn’t prepared for quite how appallingly Harry and Meghan were treated, not just by the press but by his own family.

  348. Amy Too says:

How does the RF come back from this? Can will and Kate ever do anything with racism, mental health, and maternal mental health/early years ever again?

What does the press do? The family with the press? They CANNOT just keep smearing. Meghan said she was suicidal while pregnant due to smears and she is now being smeared while pregnant… do they want to make her suicidal again? Do they just all be quiet and not respond for awhile? Do they go about their regular engagements and zoom calls and just act like this didnt happen? Are they going to apologize, try to say they didn’t know how bad it was? They can’t just keep smearing. Especially when we now know that everything they accuse Meghan of is actually backwards and all the bad stories about her are actually about a member of the RF.

And what about the commonwealth? This aired ON commonwealth day after the Queen and RF did whatever their commonwealth program was. Everyone is going to know they do not actually respect or care for the majority of the Commonwealth citizens now. How do they come back from that? How do they keep the CW together?

And the press? They’ve been called out as keeping the royal family trapped as hostages. What do they do? Do they fight that narrative? Double down?

It seems like the healthiest thing for everyone—H and M and the royals—is to abolish the monarchy. The family is being held hostage by the press, they’re all performing and protecting their image to the point of ruining their family relationships, driving people out, driving members of the family nearly to suicide (while pregnant!), and then denying suicidal royals any mental health help. What is going on with Kate? How is she being treated? She doesn’t look good or happy. How can the royals defend the institution now after what we’ve heard? They’re all terrified and trapped! Everyone wants to get out but is stuck. There are sweet, innocent children being raised in this f*ckery! How do they say this is what’s good and right and healthy for George and Charlotte and Louis? And who will marry these kids after Diana and now Meghan?

    • ArtHistorian says:

I’ve been saying it again and again – the way the British RF manage the institution is utterly inhumane. It destroys the people it elevates and protects. For that reason alone, it should be abolished. It is most cruel to the people who marries into the family but it warps the blood royals as well. Just look at how cruel and venal both Charles and Andrew has turned out to be! William is most likely well on his way down this same path. Bottom line, the British royal institution is emotionally abusive – to its members and to a large part of its staff. It is rotten to the core.

    • Nana says:

Actually, how do the mental health and any anti-racism orgs stay associated with the BRF after these revelations (unless the BRF admit their role and make genuine amends), in all good conscious?

      • ArtHistorian says:

Yep. I really want them to drop the Cambridges. They can’t have royal patrons who claim to care about mental health while they let their own sister-in-law suffer in silence.

  349. Midnight@theOasis says:

Jesus take the wheel. We need to get a prayer chain going to wrap this family in love and positivity. They have been through it and it’s only going to get worse cause the full weight of the U.K. Monarchy and Media is about to be unleashed upon them. People lift the Sussexes up in prayer and pray for their safety.
    🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏻

  350. OzJennifer says:

It’s mid-afternoon here in my part of Australia, so it’s still a couple of hours until the interview is shown. I’m very grateful to everyone for the recap and commentary, even though I’m saddened and outraged and f-ing furious. The major news outlets here were live-blogging, so it’s a big deal and it’s everywhere! I’d like to think that this a wake-up call to the RF and the toxic tabloids, but sadly I doubt it.

  351. Mina_Esq says:

Every minute of the interview was a bombshell. H and M got married 3 days before wedding? Kate was the one that made Meghan cry? Meghan had suicidal ideations? Charles cut them off? The palace denied Archie a title and security? They were concerned about Archie’s skin color? Every minute. l was honestly even thrown off finding out that the Queen rolls around with a little blanket on her lap. Thank gosh for this delicious California wine to get me through this.

    • Savu says:

Same! It never stopped. It was awesome. I hope it brought them peace to know they spoke their truth, calmly and fairly. This week is going to be a shitstorm. I wish they’d turn around and say “we messed up. We’re sorry. We will do better.” But people still hate her, and I suspect will always hate her. I honestly don’t know how this will be received in England, and what the general consensus will be. It’s pretty clear America believes and accepts their perspective and supports them. If England reacted this way, I imagine the monarchy would be forced to change. But after all they’ve done to them, I’m just cynical and sad.

    • Lemons says:

I’m watching this right now (I’m in Europe so couldn’t stay up to watch)….every section has a bombshell moment. Oprah is a genius, Meghan is handling this like a pro. The BRF won’t recover from this for a long time.

  352. Southern Fried says:

Has anyone figured out who Diana’s friend is that helped Meghan?

    • Eyeroll says:

      Twitter thinks Elton John

      • Southern Fried says:

Fascinating. I want to know more. It eased my own heart some to hear her say it and so fitting that Diana in a way, through her friend, helped Meghan.

      • ArtHistorian says:

That makes sense – he invited them to stay at one of his properties after Archie was born and loaned them their jet (which became another stick for the press to beat them with).

    • GuestWho says:

      Elton John?

  353. Monica says:

Wooooowwwww… (West Coast reporting in), they got married privately before the wedding. I love that so much.

“That’s a loaded piece of toast.” I’m dying.

  354. Val says:

IM In B.C.and have a roku Siigned up for paramount+ app and can’t find it. Does anyone know how to fix or did I miss it. Thanks

  355. Sarah says:

I support and like Megan, but why is the treatment of her either all good or all bad? She is a complicated heroine. She knows how to present (sorry I don’t buy that she knew nothing of Harry), but ultimately, what happened to her was unconscionable and their treatment of her. One thing is for sure- she has aspirations, but she doesn’t take blue blood crap. (and good for her) That has bigger repercussions on how we talk about class on both sides of the pond.

    • Emm says:

I think they talked about that though. Harry said that she was accepted at first even better then he thought she would be. They talked about how the Queen was very kind to her. That there were other family members who were kind. But when things got serious I think that’s when things started to change and then the Oceana tour happened, they announced her pregnancy which cemented her into the royal family even more and things got worse and worse from there. The popularity of her and them as a couple and history repeating itself. It was overwhelmingly deplorable the last few years.

      • Sarah says:

I agree. In the end, their hypocritical behavior will be what should be remembered.

      • J.Mo says:

It really seems like it was a jealousy issue, William and Kate had to work harder and it came naturally to Meghan.

    • lanne says:

There’s no but here. We’re not talking about faux pas here, and no one is claiming she is perfect. If you come away from this interview and all you can do is question whether or not she goggled Harry—if that’s a point of contention for you in light of everything she said, then I question you. She talked about feeling suicidal. Who cares if she really googled Harry or not? Look at all of the negative coverage she has had. This is the one time she has been able to speak for herself. Don’t bring whataboutism into this now. Read the room.

      • Sarah says:

ha! that was hardly what I was doing. Nice trendily phrased “whatabout ism” reference though. No need to vituperate, when no offense was intended.

      • lanne says:

I’ll stand down, but whether or not she googled Harry seemed like an odd takeaway from such a gut wrenching interview. I think my nerves are raw, knowing the whataboutism that’s coming (and no, it’s not trendy. People will be using the bullying allegations against her in an attempt to shutdown everything she said tonight). I can’t imagine what it’s been like for her to live through all of this. It also brings back experiences that many women have faced in our own lives in dealing with powerful institutions. That’s where I was coming from.

  356. blunt talker says:

I have stated in several past posts-this all started after Meghan and Harry’s tour from downunder was a success-from then on starting around 0ct 2018 all negative articles -her pregnancy with Archie and the tour turned the UK dogs into a frenzy to destroy the Sussex family-I really care and hope the Sussex family continue to thrive and survive from all the evil shit they have been through.

  357. Jayna says:

Didn’t the makers of The Crown say they weren’t going to cover present day? That’s all ended with what’s happed over the last few years. No way The Crown is going to stop.

  358. lanne says:

Remember this: Meghan was going through all of this and she still got work done. The cookbook, the smart works collection, the vogue issue. She did more work in 18 months than Kate did in 10 years. I wish Oprah had asked about work. Maybe we’ll get that tomorrow. F that toxic institution.

I hope that everyone in the UK sees that Harry isn’t leaving Meghan and coming back to the UK. He sees that he has no role there at all. Imagine the caucasity of those idiots to think: “abandon your wife and children and come back to play third wheel to your brother! We’ll give you all the alcohol, drugs, and hookers you want— you can even hang out with foreign dictators! “. Harry is so much more a man than his brother will ever be, than his father ever has been.

You know they will continue to demonize Meghan because they are racist morons, but to try to claim that Harry is just infatuated with her and being henpecked, or that he’s a hostage, means that they have no respect, love, or care for this blood prince of the UK. To hear him say what he said and simply dismiss it shows their utter contempt for him. His family is his wife, children, and mother in law.

I will never respect anyone who fawns over the royal family now.

    • Emm says:

+10000 about everything and especially the work part. All of this was happening and she still managed to run circles around Kate. Kate has allllll the support behind her and she still can’t manage more than one zoom call a week.

    • Alexandria says:

Bravo Meghan. Lanne I hope Oprah’s team picks up on your comments.

    • MsIam says:

Nah, the interview shows Harry has left the building, lol.

    • L4frimaire says:

I thought it was interesting but Harry seemed very accepting of losing the patronages, including the military ones. Maybe he really took that year to adjust to it and was ready to let go before the BRF was. He didn’t dwell on it, whether because he’s really over it or no point hashing it out on tv.

      • Lemons says:

I think Harry knows how the system works, so while he hoped to keep some of his patronages, he knows how his family/grandmother thinks, so gets that, if he isn’t a working royal or even living in the UK, it may not be a good look to keep his patronages if he can’t be there.

This does not address why W&K have patronages that they rarely visit and engage with. But I think Harry understands by now that there is one rule for him and another for Willileaks.

  359. Monica says:

I’m wishing I was watching this on replay. I feel the need to stop and catch my breath. (Discussion around Archie.) This interview is a nuclear bomb as well it should be.

  360. kerwood says:

I was very moved by this amazing interview. But I have to admit that part of me wanted to laugh my head off, just thinking about the reaction ‘across the pond’! Won’t they be proud when they find out that Meghan was on the verge of suicide even though she’s surrounded by royals who CLAIM they care about mental health. And the future king thinks racism is ‘boring’, but not too boring to ask if his future nephews and nieces will be able to pass the ‘paper bag test’.

Let’s not forget that Meghan said that Kate was a ‘good person’ but I don’t believe that Meghan said she LIKED her.

Andrew is probably the only royal who’ll be willing to show his face tomorrow. When you’re an accused pedophile, being accused of racism is minor league!

    • L4frimaire says:

Apparently Piers is freaking out but I kinda don’t care what they think over there. I think he’s pissed he and his f*ckery weren’t mentioned.

  361. CidyKitty(CidySmiley) says:

Honestly I got a different take from the Interview. Where I felt like in the beginning I for sure thought most of the hate and smear was coming from William I don’t think that anymore. Compared to his father, Harry was graceful to Kate and Will. Like Harry acknowledged there are problems in the relationship but he didn’t hang them out like I feel Charles more was. Meg even complimented Kate and told the whole truth about how Kate did apologize and she speculates if Kate was unable to comment on the story. I dont think Harry would have been as forgiving to Will in the interview if he had been the one to make the skin comments. I honestly see that coming from Phillip or even Camilla.

I was expecting more shade on W&K and there wasn’t any really which leads me to believe they were less involved than we think. I think William follows his father’s orders more and sails a leaky ship.

I think the distinction between The Firm and The Family was really highlighted here. He never takes away that they are family but he definitely outlines that things are a lot different than we think. I think Harry wanted to get to a point where they are **just family** not business associates or part of the churning machine and greater than all of that I think he wanted to protect his wife and child.

    • AKA says:

CIDYKITTY(CIDYSMILEY): great read on the whole interview. I agree with you – it felt like they didn’t associate Will and Kate with the racist narrative, but rather they were silent spectators because of “their circumstances”. Unfortunately this theory is going to be lost in the narrative strongly set that Will and Kate = Evil and Charles = loving father but victim of the system. Even now people are focusing more on the crying at the wedding part (where to be honest tempers would be all over the place anyway), than other more serious issues of not providing security.

  362. smee says:

Does anyone else think it was Camilla as the family member skin color expert?

  363. Golly Gee says:

BBC News royal correspondent Jonny Dymond called the interview “devastating” and said their revelations are a “body blow” to the royal family.

“It’s not at all clear if and how the palace will respond,” Dymond wrote on BBCNews.com. “Many of the revelations are so personal that getting any reaction seems unlikely. The Queen has made clear repeatedly the affection in which the couple are still held. As for the newspapers that the couple so despise – will they change their tune? It is not in their nature.”

  364. Sarah says:

Isn’t it ironic that one of The Cambridge’s big causes is mental health?

    • lanne says:

I don’t think it will be anymore. I’ll bet the anti racism and the mental health will be quietly put away. I expect more drivel about the Early Years and maybe some environment stuff. Like most bullies, they are far too thin skinned to handle all the receipts that will be thrown at them, as well as the derision from the public, if they try to talk about mental health now.

  365. Donna B. says:

The UK’s royal family is horrible & the monarchy needs to be abolished completely. They don’t deserve any type of financial support from the UK or their common wealth countries (if they do receive it from them).

  366. Mel says:

FYI, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is scheduled for the week of 21 June 2021 in Rwanda (postponed from last summer). Wouldn’t it be great if Baby Girl Sussex is born around this time? The racism of the royal family would be front and center again. Perhaps more countries would openly question having the monarch as their head of state.

  367. Nicole says:

Something I’m confused about from the interview: was the firm refusing to give Archie protection while Harry and Meghan were still working full time royals?

    • Emm says:

Sorry I misinterpreted your question. Yes that’s why I got out of it. That before he was born and they were still full time senior royals they were told that he would not have a title which meant he wouldn’t have security. At least that’s what they firm told them was normal, no title no security, but it doesn’t sound like Harry bought that

    • Liz version 700 says:

Yep. They wanted to get rid of that precious baby one way or the other. The Firm is trash, absolute trash.

  368. Ksweet says:

I think Meagan said Kate was a good person in part to damn William by omission. She knows people will be reading between the lines. I’m sure it was William who wondered aloud on more than one occasion about what the children would look like. Ugh.

  369. Devs says:

Could not be happier to see the level of damage this has done to the monarchy!
Hundreds of years of brutality, depravity, pillaging, murder etc etc etc didn’t do it which is a serious thing and needs to be addressed BUT…i’ll take this
I have a lot of other comments but mostly I’m so glad this has shone intense scrutiny on racism and anti-Blackness in Britain and the total lack of transparency there is with the Royals and their little worm aides.
I’m glad Meghan and Harry have each other (and Archie and their incoming baby girl)

  370. TheGirlByTheSea says:

I’m a Brit and I’m just reading the headlines this morning. I’m absolutely shocked and disgusted by what I’ve read so far. Poor Meghan & Harry, it sounds like they’ve been through the wringer. I’ve always liked them as a couple and I was saddened by their decision to step back but now after this, I totally get it. No-one deserves to be treated the way Meghan and Harry have.

The papers yesterday, well the tabloid were full of awful stories mostly about Meghan. The Daily Fail in particular, I looked on their website out of curiosity and I swear 3/4 of the homepage was devoted to stories about H&M. I see Piers Morgan has already been tweeting this morning. He’s an absolute tool. People in the UK have long memories and won’t forget what he did as editor of the Daily Mirror. He is and always will be a piece of 💩

Anyway, back to Harry and Meghan. I’m pleased that they’ve found their happiness and can live their lives as they want.

  371. Lizzie says:

I always wondered why William was so against the marriage and even got Diana’s brother to try and talk Harry out of it. The story was always spun that William, the level headed one, simply asked Harry if he was sure he knew that girl well enough and hot head Harry assumed he was being racist. Turns out he actually asked if Harry had thought about what the kids would look like. The pieces are falling together now.

    • Liz version 700 says:

Oh yeah! Yep. Things said that can never be unsaid. The Commonwealth needs to give William a giant middle finger and leave him the eventual “King” of a tiny island.

  372. L4frimaire says:

Ok first thoughts from West Coast after seeing the fuss on East Coast Twitter. There is a lot we did not know and they were really doing some shady stuff! The tabloids lied and knew they were lying. They are holding back a lot and don’t blatantly say racism until later. M is very calm, only mentioned Kate because Oprah asked her , tried to be nice but I don’t think she likes her at all. Harry is nervous and comes across a little defensive. Thought they’d call out press directly more but definitely gives impression it’s corrupt. Family should have publicly been more supportive and they are holding back on that as well. He says his dad and brother trapped. It will piss of a lot to say it but I kind of get what they’re saying. We all knew everything changed after the Oceana tour and baby announcement. Oprah is very good and asks some hard questions, including making Harry be more explanatory about what they wanted. She put a bit of pressure there. I think we like to say they’re planners but it seems like they had to pivot fast and get themselves together quick. I think they definitely had to scramble a bit and are still adjusting. They still seem a little shell shocked. I think the Royal family need to stand down and back the hell off. I think in the long run, providing for themselves will be the best decision. Their baby boy is beautiful and I knew it would be a girl!

    • L4frimaire says:

Also, this is not going to bring down the monarchy and they didn’t name anyone but they very much, very subtlety discredited the UK tabloid press. A few sharp barbs but they didn’t go scorched earth at all.

    • Lemons says:

I don’t know…I think it’s very possible that this does significant damage to the institution if not the family members themselves. The Kate crying story that has now been cleared up shows that they were willing to leave negative stories out in the public of Meghan, but we see how hard they go to correct true, but slightly damaging articles, or nonsense articles about hair extension.

Two, Meghan clearly said it was FAMILY that discussed Archie’s skin color with Harry. Can you imagine how GROSS that is. And the takeaway is that this was ultimately used in the decision to not give Archie a title or protection, even though his risk level is probably higher than the Cambridge children. That was one of the more shocking aspects of the interview to me. I’m glad he is so young and can’t understand these things. Because it clearly hurts Harry.

  373. MangoAngelesque says:

Oh my heart, that Diana’s grandson says to “drive safe.”

  374. Kynesgrove89 says:

I always thought Megan’s mother looked upset/near tears at the wedding. 🙁

  375. Nana says:

Was listening to NPR online from Australia when BBC world service came on with an interview with RR Jenny Bond…. Absolutely disgusting, the whitesplaining about the racism directed at Archie by the family member questioning Harry about the colour of Archie’s skin.
And completely disbelieving of her disclaimer that she wasn’t interested in them as a couple and didn’t need them to do an interview. BS. She’ll be feasting off the carcasse of this interview for months, if not years…

  376. Lemons says:

For anyone who is trying to watch the replay from outside the US, here’s what I did:

First, get a good VPN and connect to the USA.
Sign up for YouTube TV (use the free trial, you can cancel at no charge afterward).
Then try to connect to CBS All Access using your YouTube TV account.
Prepare a piping cup of tea, search for the interview, and enjoy!
