I’ve never been a fan of the Dune books. Spice? Whatever. However, my mother is a freak about this series, so I guess I’m going to see the movie.
Yeah, I love this sort of stuff usually and tried but couldn’t get in to Dune. Felt like there wasn’t enough tension.
The Dune trailer doesn’t give away as much as you’d think. The majority is from what has to be the very beginning of the film. Its a HUGE story.
Right? There’s a ton of story and the book itself is about the size of a brick. Also this is the third adaptation of this story in 35 years. The cats out of the bag for most folks.
Yep, although I think a lot of people already know the plot esp if you are a fan of the books. The trailers haven’t even touched on the Bene Gesserits or Harkonnen’s or even Alia (I don’t see her in the cast list so who knows if she will be in it).
Thou no one can really replace Kyle MacLachlan as Paul in my eyes. Let’s see if Timothy measure’s up. Zendaya has big shoes to fill left by Sean Young when it comes to Chani. I have a soft spot for the David Lynch version.
The movie is apparently only the first half of the book, so not sure we get to Alia this time. If it is the first half only that raises some questions about Zendaya’s presence. Hmmmm. I get it from a selling the movie perspective but….hmmmmm.
If its only the first half, it explains a number of characters missing from the cast list on IMDB. It also means there’s way more chance of it being a good movie without giving up too much of the story.
It looks great!!
I haven’t seen the original Dune. I’ve always heard that the book was so groundbreaking and amazing, but the main guy’s name is Paul? I’m really finding that funny right now. I did see the sequel Children of Dune years ago because James McAvoy is in it, it wasn’t very good…..
I read the book as a teenager and what I remember most was thinking George Lucas had totally plagiarized Dune with the Star Wars script. Dune is a much more complex story but the chosen one element and the catch phrase of may the [fill in the blank] be with you are straight outta Dune.
Ironically general audiences may find Dine quite derivative because it influenced so much science fiction they have seen the elements before in lots of other movies/TV….even though the Dune books came first! Oops!
Mia – You’re probably right. Reminds me of when I first watched the movie “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” few years ago. I was like “this is so cliche.” My BF was like “yeah, that’s because it’s been ripped off a thousand times.” LOL!
Have you seen “All Quiet on the Western Front”? Best Picture Oscar winner from 1929. It’s a great movie, but I had the same reaction. Such a weird sense of deja vu until I realized I’d seen 1,700 movies and TV shows that copied it.
Actually, Star Wars (the first film) is a scene by scene plagiarism of “Lawrence of Arabia”. It’s not even subtle.
That’s the same reason “John Carter” tanked. Just about every single element in it has been ripped off by the movies through the years.
@blacktoypoodle. That’s fascinating. I’d honestly never heard that before. I just Googled and it’s the cinematography that’s lifted from Lawrence of Arabia (not the script) but apparently Dune also borrows camera techniques from LoA. All three do have a lot of desert scenes.
How did Matt Damon manage to spend the whole fucking pandemic abroad? Did one of those governments vaccinate him?
He and his family were in Ireland for work when they locked down at the start of the pandemic so he couldn’t leave for months. I don’t know about the other countries.
At one point he was joined at the hip with the Hemsworths in Australia.
Well, it gives away one plotline, which is pretty much the same plotline as a lot of other movies. But the book is enormous – we’ll see how much of it makes it into the film. I’ve always thought the first novel was the only necessary one – every one after that was like a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy.
Yeah, the succeeding books essentially ran the “every other Atredies is a god” deal into the ground.
I am now starting a countdown clock for Dune. I will take ALL Dune content!!!
And if you’re into Dune you’ve read the books so the trailer isn’t a spoiler lol.
Lol I was about to say, girl we know the plot. It’s Dune.
ITA and I really like this casting. The first film was brilliant too IMHO but I was a teenager and a fan of the books and of Sting. I’m definitely down with seeing how it’s done for a new generation.
I just read Book One for the first time—can’t wait for the movie!!
So some idiot trolled Mindy for playing Velma, with an Office gif. Her response: ‘I wrote the episode of The Office that this gif is from.’ BAM!
Lol, that’s perfect.
Timothee Chalamet always looks like he’s waiting for a sneeze to rip.
For die hard Dune fans…. we don’t care…. just keep giving us more to look forward to
Can’t wait. Can’t wait. Can’t wait. Can’t wait.
It’s not six minutes. The guy linked two trailers in one movie.
There is an official new trailer from the Warner Brothers channel. It would better to just link to that than give this random dude clicks for a deceptive title and editing of copyrighted material.
This is one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read, and this trailer looks like the book.
I mean, it’s not exactly spoilers. At this point you either know the plot of Dune or it’s just not for you and you don’t care and never will.
Having said that, this looks amazing and I can’t wait.

The story of Dune isn’t exactly a mystery. It’s a famous book and a remake of a famous film.
