Duchess Kate ‘is not flashy’ and she didn’t panic when Meghan joined the family

kate at 40 sunday times

Of course we couldn’t get through Keen Birthday Buttons Week without a major story dropping ON the Duchess of Cambridge’s 40th birthday. Roya Nikkah at the Times authored this “Kate at 40” piece for the Times’ Sunday magazine. She had help, in the form of several named Kensington Palace employees who spoke to her on the record, and I would imagine that KP also provided a helpful outline and talking points. Again, this rarely happens in royal circles, where the royal’s employees are paid to be on-the-record named sources hyping their boss. Usually, royal employees are expected to be more discreet. But anything for The Birthday Embiggening. This Sunday Times piece is so long and there’s so much weirdness, tea, shade and eye-rolling that I need to split it into two posts. This is Part 1, which is where I pulled out every time Harry and Meghan are mentioned, plus some shady sh-t about William.

Kate doesn’t do drama: Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, one of the Cambridges’ closest friends and advisers, their former principal private secretary who is godfather to Prince George, assesses Kate’s coping mechanism: “She has that almost old-fashioned, Queen Mother attitude to drama — she just doesn’t do it.”

The Sussexes ‘fired missiles at the monarchy and some personally at Kate’: Kate has watched her husband mourn the loss of his grandfather, not to mention his close relationship with his brother…An image of the duchess arriving at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in April last year is telling. Taken a few weeks after Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, which included accusations of racism in the royal family, Kate appears composed but defiant… William, 39, was “reeling”, with “his head all over the place”, furious that his brother and sister-in-law had taken aim at his wife and his family, forcing him to state publicly: “We are very much not a racist family.”

Kate focused on William after the Sussexes’ interview: “In the days after the interview her priority was William, not how she felt about what Harry and Meghan had done,” says a source close to the Cambridges. “She has focused on personal support for William in what has been a really sad time in his life. She never predicted the degree of falling out between them.”

The bridesmaids’ dress fitting: Of the “who made who cry” incident, a palace source says: “I’ve had hundreds of hours of conversations with her [Kate] and it never came up. I only ever heard from Meghan about that — a very different story from what she said to Oprah.”

Kate, the supportive wife: A close friend says: “Kate has a way of calming William down and knows how to be really affectionate and gentle. But she is 100 per cent loyal to him and has a shaft of steel running up her back when she needs to deal with stuff that’s unpalatable.” One of William’s closest friends puts it bluntly: “He has had a year from hell and she has been fantastic supporting him.”

Why Kate didn’t go to the Diana-statue unveiling: In July, when the brothers were briefly reunited again at Kensington Palace to unveil a statue of Diana, Kate did not join them publicly but worked her magic out of sight before the brothers emerged into the glare of the world’s media. “William was still furious,” says a close friend. “He had taken the view that he’d only give so much. He just didn’t want to go there [with Harry].” An aide says: “[Catherine] was amazing behind the scenes when Harry came.” The event went off without a hitch.

Kate didn’t “change” when Meghan came around, lol: It was the same when the Sussex show was going well for a time, with Meghan described as “a breath of fresh air” for the monarchy, bringing a modern, diverse feel to the institution. Before things spiralled the Cambridges looked a little too steady to some. But there was “no risk of Kate being blown off course or changing direction”, a close aide says. “Things need to feel relevant, but fundamentally it’s about a long-term set of values and there are benefits to tradition that the duchess has always had real clarity about. She is not flashy, that’s not what people want the institution for, and she has always had a very clear understanding of that.”

Kate helped William come to terms with his destiny: “She has been a hugely important factor in him coming to terms with his destiny, how comfortable he has become with his role in the royal family as future monarch and the demands of that.

Kate the Loved: Since the Duke of York stepped back from royal life in 2019 over his links with Jeffrey Epstein, and the Sussexes left in 2020, the load on the Cambridges’ shoulders has become heavier, and according to a close friend “they do feel more exposed”. Another Cambridge confidante says: “The UK looks to them for the future of the monarchy. It’s a tough role.” But the future Queen Catherine has proven she is up to the challenge, says Lowther-Pinkerton: “She paced herself, she took her fences slowly but faultlessly.” Knauf believes “she will be a huge asset to the institution and the country”. An impeccably placed, longstanding royal insider who has watched Kate’s evolution says of the future king and queen: “William will be respected. Catherine will be loved.”

[From The Sunday Times]

You guys, if I read one more keen version of the crying-at-the-bridesmaids-fitting story, I’m going to buy some bridesmaids dresses just so I can rip them to shreds, cry into those shreds and then burn them in a cleansing fire. Once again, “sources close to Kate” will never be specific about what actually happened during what sounds like multiple incidents where Kate completely went berserk on Meghan. One of the funniest parts about the “Kate is perfect and unchanging” story is that… Kate DID change. She f–king panicked as soon as Meghan and Harry got engaged. Not only did she panic, she began copying Meghan outright (and still does).

Hilariously, one of the things I’ve grown to enjoy most about the Kate-at-40 series is how “sources close to Kate” always make William sound hyper-emotional, angry, depressed, incandescent, reeling and unable to cope or function at any level without Kate’s steadying, keen hand. I have no idea why William needs to be thrown under the keen bus to make Kate look good too, but here we are. As for Kate not going to the statue-unveiling last summer… she was desperate to go and be the “keen peacemaker” once again. William shut her down, repeatedly, even though she threw several big tantrums in the media. That alone says more about their marriage than all of this birthday keenery. That and the fact that she clearly believes it’s in her best interest to make William come across as so emotional and incapable.

  1. LW says:

Why oh why do they keep mentioning Meghan in every story about this dullard??

Ohh that’s right, no one will read it otherwise!

    • swirlmamad says:

      Bingo.

    • PEARL GREY says:

Of course Kate didn’t panic when Meghan came along. Which is why after spending the first 6 years as a part-time working royal hiding out in Wales and Norfolk, she and William hurriedly announced intentions to finally become full time once they realised Harry and Meghan’s engagement was imminent, and the following 4 years have seen them hastily rolling out unfinished or stolen projects and initiatives, throwing themselves at every TV appearance they can get, becoming YouTubers, changing their personal style, forcing PDA, commissioning one embiggening puff piece after another, trotting out their children more than ever before and leading an ongoing smear campaign. Nope, no panic whatsoever.

      • TeamMeg says:

Excellent summary @PEARL GREY, thank you! In a nutshell: KM totally changed course, style and strategy in direct response to MM. 😂

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Yeah, other than her titles (which she gets by default), Kate has/is nothing of interest. Unless she changes her ways (not likely), she will always be in Meghan’s shadow.

      • Debbie says:

All I can say is I’m glad the articles keep saying that she’s modest and private because I’d never know it. These past 2 weeks, Kate did everything but swing from Big Ben’s metal clappers, wearing nothing but a thong and the veil she wore to Phillip’s funeral. Give it a rest, Girl!

    • MediocreMeanGirl says:

She’s the epitome of mediocre. Not flashy? My arse that simpleton is not flashy, the bloody world has seen that basic bum multiple times!

      • Marivic says:

ITA. She flashed her buttocks for everyone in the world to see. She had been advised several times before to weigh her hemlines like the Queen usually did but she didn’t and flashed her bum intentionally because she wanted attention. She also paraded herself in front of William and a full audience in that see-through mesh. How isn’t that not flashy.? News about her not flashy is crap and fake news. Only those who refuse to see the truth about this woman will believe this sh_t by the kiss-ass royal rotas.

    • Marivic says:

If I were Kate I’d feel terribly insulted and unimportant that my public enemy number 1 is mentioned in all the articles that were supposed to be all about me. It only means I mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

  2. Digital Unicorn says:

Hahahahahahahaha – that is just beyond funny. Of course she panicked and she is flashy AF.

Also I don’t buy the BS about the Diana statue – i remember the press around the time and it was obvs she and Ma were using the press to put pressure on William to allow her to attend but was shut out of the event. This isn’t the first time she has tried to claim credit for the whole project.

At some point Prince Ragealot will start properly briefing against her and her family. You reap what you sow Buttons, remember that!

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

During Kate’s first few years of marriage an article came out and I think it referenced Princess Anne or another royal as saying Kate was very Grand. Meaning she wore diamond earrings, gowns, jewels, heavy makeup and spent too much money when situations were just casual and with family. The Windsors took big digs at her over that because it hurt their image.

      • Over it says:

Kate isn’t grand and flashy. Grand and flashy people don’t fly in photographers from Italy and sit for not one but 3 portraits while wearing 3 bespoke designer dresses and millions in jewelry during a pandemic where the peasants have suffered so much. How dare you or anyone else think duchess Catherine the fake grand.

    • Over it says:

The funniest part of this is that they still can’t tell you how exactly she was helping William or Harry behind the scenes. I mean she was so helpful that Harry up and bounced back to Cali about 20 minutes after he went back inside. Yeah nice try mutton button

      • swirlmamad says:

Everything, EVERYTHING is so vague and non-specific. At least they realize that if you’re going to lie your ass off, KISS is key (Keep It Simple, Stupid!!!!).

      • manda says:

        ha!! great point

      • Ginger says:

Kate wasn’t invited to the statue unveiling because she wasn’t welcomed there by William. She didn’t work behind the scenes to bring them together. She wants to come across that she is desperately needed by everyone and she just isn’t. Harry and William barely spoke at the unveiling and like you said, he left soon afterwards.

      • SourcesclosetoKate says:

I don’t think William wanted her there, Kate constantly exploits his moms image with the constant cosplay that enough to make anyone uncomfortable.

      • Anance says:

In this case, William is probably right. If Kate attended the unveiling, then Meghan’s absence would dominate the conversation. Best to get it over with. Didn’t Harry Zoom in to a follow-up event?

      • MediocreMeanGirl says:

I agree, well said. The line that’s most amusing to me is “William will be respected, and Waity loved” Pray tell who respects the petulant, litigious Willnot? Waity is about as loveable as a case of the clap.

    • Becks1 says:

You notice they don’t say why she didn’t go to the statute unveiling. Just that she didn’t attend but was working her “magic” behind the scenes. It tells me that she was absolutely, 100% benched.

      • Nic919 says:

I also think it confirms that William alone benched her. At the time there was talk that perhaps Harry didn’t want her there and that’s why she didn’t go, but had that been the case Harry would have gotten blamed for her no show here. Clearly William cut her off and she’s pretending she did behind the scenes work as a sad excuse.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Becks: It’s clear that William banned her from the unveiling.

      • Rapunzel says:

It was always clear Will barred her from the statue thing. Will always gets what he wants. If he wanted her there, she’d have been there. And if Will had wanted her there but was somehow overruled, there’d have been some excuse floated.

That no excuse was ever given proves Will was behind it.

      • Jennifer says:

What magic was there to work?!

Yeah, even this article can’t say what really went down. Presumably that William didn’t want his wife around.

      • Nic919 says:

Also let’s not forget when Kate tried to interrupt William and Harry talking after the funeral and William barked at her and she pulled back. Yeah neither brother cared for her pretend peacemaking.

    • Marivic says:

ITA. Of course she panicked. Just like she’s panicking now with all the RRs panicking too at her big 40. Because she knows she’ll be obliterated soon in this Meghan-dominated world if she doesn’t get these puff pieces the RRs are peddling about her. She knows she’s a wallflower that has no personality and unintelligently mumbles her way through in global events.

  3. Ariel says:

The kind of woman who wears white to another woman’s wedding.

    • Seaflower says:

      One who wants attention…..

    • Debbie says:

There’s clearly a pattern there though. Kate wears white to Meghan’s wedding, takes a photo-op at a slain woman’s memorial, and tries to upstage Phillip’s funeral with a photo-op. OMG, somebody stop this woman before she sins again. What’s wrong with her? At this stage, she may well wear Diana’s crown to the queen’s inevitable funeral. Just sayin’

  4. C-Shell says:

I do *not* understand this Keen Jubilee over a commoner, married-in, do-little duchess. The BM doesn’t make this big a deal out of the first in line’s birthdays. Even Charles At 70 wasn’t this big a deal. FFS It’s exhausting and a bit nauseating.

    • Snazzy says:

I’ll bet Charles will be pissed off about that too … should we expect a clapback soon? For example: About how she won’t really start working until she’s 55, and Charles has always been so Keen on service? The headlines write themselves …

      • ArtHistorian says:

Well, Palmer tweeted that Kate won’t increase her workload for the next 10-15 years because of the children.

      • LaraW” says:

@ArtHistorian— I misread your comment and thought it said she won’t increase her workload until she has 10-15 children.

Immediately followed by the thought: “well, that would be an accomplishment.”

      • ArtHistorian says:

        Lmao!

      • Nic919 says:

I also read Palmer’s tweet that a fourth child is never happening. She had no options but to boldly state she’s not working for another 15 years because she won’t be able to hide behind another mat leave again.

    • Kalana says:

Meghan got attention on her 40th so Kate can’t rest until she feels like she has the same thing.

      • Charm says:

        @Kalana…..BINGO!
Someone said upthread that not even charles at 70 had this kind of OTT birthday bash and in fact, no other royal, except the queen, has anything near this kind of OTT celebration.
This is aaaaallllllll about M. Its about kHate & kp measuring her against M and finding her so lacking, so wanting, they hv to go out and create a whole new identity for her, including new face (who dis?) and new backstory.

      • what's inside says:

Kate’s shelf life is expiring soon and she wants to get everything she can until then. She wants to be recognized and this is just another chance.

      • Debbie says:

@What’s Inside: “Kate’s shelf life is expiring soon”? Hah, not as long as there’s photo-shop, it’s not. Not as long as there’s a drop of Botox in England. You mark my words.

    • Becks1 says:

It’s exhausting and so over the top that it reflects poorly on Kate. She’s turning 40. Big deal. As I have mentioned, I myself will be 40 in *checks calendar* less than a month at this point. WHERE IS MY MAGAZINE COVER?!!??

I know its considered a milestone birthday, but its not like she’s accomplished anything significant beyond marrying William. If she was a blood royal, I could see the fuss a little more, because she would be in the line of succession AND we would have seen her grow up in the public eye. But as it is…..lordy, the PR machine needs to stop.

      • Liz Version 700 says:

Happy early Birthday Becks1! This is ALOT. I literally don’t remember What I did for my 40th birthday.

      • swirlmamad says:

They have a HUGE hole to fill in June when William turns 40. Because if they make this insane to-do over Kate, they do realize that they need to go above and beyond this for the actual heir? The lengths they are going to to get us to “love” her are beyond bizarre.

      • C-Shell says:

@Becks1 — Have a fabulous birthday with a cover shoot for Forbes, Fortune, Time, etc.!

@Swirlmamad — you nailed it. They’d better make a BFD over Bulliam’s 40th birthday, and when they do, it will be an epic fail with nothing but comparisons to Harry. Which, now that I think of it, Harry’s 40th birthday will be awesome, and the SussexSquad will pull out all the stops in fundraisers for his impactful projects. Can’t wait.

      • Becks1 says:

And keep in mind for Harry’s bday, we have over 2.5 years to go. Think of what he’s going to accomplish between now and then! We’ll have two more IGs done, while countries compete to host the next ones, the Netflix productions, Spotify podcasts, and anything and everything else he and Meghan are cooking up. It’s exciting to think about how much there will be to celebrate when he turns 40, beyond what we have now.

      • C-Shell says:

@Becks — and BetterUp will have had a hugely successful IPO, making Harry even wealthier and more significant as a Chief Impact Officer, hopefully social media and online hate for profit will be better regulated, Dr. Jill Biden will have made an appearance at the IG (or something similar) with H&M, lots more drool worthy pics of Harry and Nacho at Sentebale polo matches …

      • MerryGirl says:

Becks, I’d rather celebrate your 40th with the CB-ers, here’s to an early toast!

      • Lady D says:

“Photos of Kate at 40 show the woman she will one day become”
I kid you not, it is an actual DF headline. I am gobsmacked.
Anyway, congrats on almost being a woman @Becks!

      • Livy333 says:

        Happy Birthday Becks1!

      • Becks1 says:

Haha, thank you all. Trust me, I will tell you all when the day is actually here. I still have a few weeks 🤣

    • MissMarirose says:

It’s a calculated distraction from Charles’ and Andrew’s scandals.

      • notasugarhere says:

I doubt the royals had anything to do with this. It reeks of Middleton.

      • KFG says:

The midds are still trying to make PWT think Keen is an asset. That’s it. Once the queen goes, she knows that she is out unless there will be worse press for the firm. This is so desperate and grasping that it’s pathetic. She’s not influential, does less than a 95 year old, and hasn’t accomplished anything except marrying bill. Comparing her to MM or Letizia only makes her look bad. Trying to make her out to be amazing only showcases how less than mediocre she is. I hope she doesn’t think this makes her look good.

      • Anance says:

I thought it was a distraction from Andrew’s scandal. It seemed like it was all Andrew/Ghislaine for a while and then everything switched to Kate. Even before her birthday, I noticed it around very late December.

    • notasugarhere says:

BP announced a pile of information about the upcoming Platinum Jubilee right in the middle of all this Keening. Makes me lean even more heavily on the ‘Middleton-driven PR angle’ for these pics and all this pro-Kate leaking. BP and the Queen see nothing special in Kate’s 40th birthday. moving on.

      • Rapunzel says:

        Nota- BP did what? 😂😂😂😂
That’s a delicious smackdown. I’m all for BP putting this jumped up twit and her momager in her place.

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes, Keen’s birthday Keening overshadowed by the announcement of a Platinum Pudding competition among other things.

    • Marivic says:

But unlike Meghan’s big 40, Kate trended only in UK. No global trending for this Puff Girl and her fake puff pieces.

  5. Dee (2) says:

These writeups are just sad. The constantly write about how patient she is, and steady, and reliable, and how she takes her time to focus on what’s important, but every article sounds like they read the back of the book of her life, and had to write a book report. If you are going to go against norm and dispatch people to speak on the record about how fabulous you are, shouldn’t some of things shared be….. fabulous? What is her next step in her Early Years research? What’s her center doing, are they sponsoring any programs, big events? What about the garden? How has that been used during the pandemic at a limited capacity to help? How about things like Hold Still, are they going to build upon it’s success to develop similar beneficial programs? Nothing, just crickets, and talk about how everyone loves her, and needs her, and how she totally isn’t jealous of her sister in law who has mentioned her once in two years.

    • Jais says:

@dee- it really did have a book report feel. I don’t know why but this roya nikah article was weirdly long and dull. Usually these writers seem to take glee in bashing Meghan and you can kind of feel it. Reading this truly was like eating a bland cracker. There was shade in it but overall was tedious. Maybe bc we’re reading it after so many similar pieces.

      • BothSidesNow says:

Not only a stale cracker but in some descriptions she sounds like someone’s dog. Wording such as, “ way of calming William down and knows how to be really affectionate and gentle.” Besides the stick up her @ss, oh, no I mean that her spine is like a metal rod, Mumbles sounds like the only one holding up the Bitter Brother.

How many times can these hacks keep saying the same thing over and over. Great, shes keen at at keeping the anger spilling over in the Bitter Brother as well as molding him into his destiny of being king. So what! He has always known he was going to be king, it’s not a sudden development. Now she has been pushed as the one who is making him prepared to be king. The only thing that the Bitter Brother will be successful at is destroying The Monarchy, no more, nothing less.

      • equality says:

@Both Sides That’s funny. Maybe what Will needs is a good emotional support dog.

  6. Seaflower says:

Based on the Middleton versions of Willnot, I’m surprised he can tie his shoe laces without her.

  7. Jenn says:

I guess Pinkerton whatever is one of the ones who chose William over Harry. Oh, well I hope the Duchy of Cornwall continues to be profitable.

    • JT says:

I find it odd that Pinkerton, and the other KP staff, are the only ones who can speak about Kate in the first place. Like really? The only people that can go on the record about how great Kate is are the paid help? How embarrassing.

      • swirlmamad says:

Right?!? Where are her childhood friends? Former co-workers (HAHAHA!)? Extended family members? Where’s that cousin who told us a while back that she has no interest in the world around her? LOL.

    • notasugarhere says:

Pinkerton has been around for two decades, pushing down Harry while trying to raise up William. He was buddy buddy with Kate/Midds during the decade of dating too.

  8. Brit says:

These reporters, courtiers, “sources” and tabloids are going to be the downfall of that monarchy. Her whole birthday wasn’t even about her. It was a thing to behold. You got people trying to embiggen her to the gods, make her trend by tearing Meghan down with every stereotype about Black American women you can think of. They told us that she and the institution are threatened by Meghan. Kate is truly out of her league. I would’ve been so embarrassed over the weekend if I was her. They gotta use Meghan to make her interesting and it still didn’t work. The media was telling Kate inadvertently or purposely that you need Meghan and you will never be out of her shadow. The thought behind this PR rollout was all over the place. The palace is in shambles and it shows.

    • Liz Version 700 says:

Brit that is exactly right. She was so blinded by jealousy, racism and pure meanness she didn’t realize that terrorizing M&H into leaving would guarantee that she will never emerge from Meghan’s shadow. If she had been kinder or at least not as openly hostile maybe the shadow would not have made her look so ugly, alas she screwed herself.

      • BothSidesNow says:

For decades we will all be able to look back at her Un royal behaviour at CW for all to see how unwelcoming she was. Her eyes were piecing daggers at Meghan, and Harry. Harry bent over backward to make Mumbles McMutton feel comfortable and welcome. We see where his good nature got him. Stabbed in the back by jealousy and disrespect by Mumbles McMutton, and her equally vile husband.

      • t'otter says:

“She never predicted the degree of falling out between them.”

        Ain’t that the truth.

  9. Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

The unnamed source claims that Meghan told this person a different story but then didn’t bother to say what that story was, just that it was different from what she told Oprah. And of course, Kate never mentioned the story to this person because the point was to leak it to the media. I’m not sure what they keep bringing up this story since it changes every time they tell it.

    • Over it says:

I call a lie to this, Meghan didn’t trust those people so she won’t have gone to them to talk about anything.Kate is a lying deceitful B. She threw a tantrum at another woman wedding because she wanted the woman husband to me and got mad at Meghan because Harry loves her and mit Kate.

    • Becks1 says:

We have the email from Meghan that said something like “can we finally correct the story about me making Kate cry,” that was from January 2020, so we know that what she said in the Oprah interview was at least pretty close to the truth (I think it was the truth, but if you doubted what she said, that email supports it.)

      • Over it says:

Becks,Oh I believe Meghan emailed them and has her receipts, what I don’t believe is that she had a one on one conversation with these people complaining about Kate and the tights story because by that time I am sure Meghan already saw these people didn’t care about her

    • Nic919 says:

That comment in the article makes no sense because of course Kate wouldn’t talk about the real events of a story that would just make kate look bad.

      • Jais says:

I wonder if Kate and her team feel pretty confident that Meghan won’t say anymore about the crying story. We’ve often said that Meghan said her piece and is done giving it oxygen. The media seems to be baiting her to say more but I’d imagine Kate wouldn’t want her to actually drop receipts. So does she think she can just keep alluding to it and slowly change opinion bc Meghan won’t go on record about it again?

      • Rapunzel says:

Jais- or Kate and her team want Meg to release recipts so they can smear her for that, knowing all the press will care about is Meg “leaking” and not Kate lying.

      • L84Tea says:

“Tightsgate” has officially sealed the deal that Kate will never, ever do an interview. Not that royals normally do interviews, but if a situation ever arose where some questions could be asked, it will be squashed immediately. That story is going to hang over her forever, and rightfully so.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Elizabeth Kerri Mahon, I agree! Meghan would never divulge personal information to anyone beside Harry and her hundreds of girlfriends! I will eat my hat IF Meghan had openly spoken with one of those last, ungrateful, conniving sociopaths in one of their offices. More likely, she heard it from office gossip, or Knauf, but he spread the lies, not the truth.

  10. Scorpion says:

She is not flashy but released 3 photos to ‘thank the nation’ for her milestone birthday wearing thousands of pounds couture

    Oh the irony 😂😂😂😂

  11. Over it says:

This is golden. If I didn’t already dislike william immensely, I would feel sorry for him. Imagine having a wife who must clearly hate your guts so much that she takes shots at you in every magazine she sanctions. She attacks him as much as she attacks Meghan. Lol. However I can’t stand the keenbridges so here is hoping they both bury each other.

    • JT says:

She literally broke him down in this piece. She called him nothing but an emotional wreck, who can only function because she’s there to prop him up. So can we please stop with the Kate is afraid of William nonsense? A woman who is scared or controlled by her man isn’t briefing against him in this way, because according to Kate, William ain’t sh*t without her and HE is the irrelevant one in the marriage. And this is a sanctioned piece, with staff going on the record. This is what she wants out there. I bet Kate gives as good as she gets, and I highly doubt she’s controlled by William like some like to claim.

      • Lila says:

@ JT thank you! If Kate was afraid of Billy, Kate and her mama wouldn’t be contacting a bunch of reporters and editors to push this type of narrative. This is not the first time they’ve said William is an unhinged, weak man who is only controlled by Kate and Carole.

      • Over it says:

Exactly JT, Kate is and has always been the ultimate mean girl. I you don’t grow up with Carole Middleton as a mom and come away like mother Theresa. As for William, he probably moved out because he is afraid. However if he wasn’t such a shit brother and racist piece of trash, I would care but he is so I don’t

      • JT says:

William got played so hard by Kate. He thought he was getting a meek, submissive woman who wouldn’t outshine him and then Kate switched it up on his ass and pulled a Gone Girl. She’s straight up plotting against William at every opportunity, always ready to cut him down. Even William doesn’t brief against Kate like this. Hell, she played that whole family because it’s because of her shenanigans that Harry isn’t there anymore (because I still think she is the one that got the ball rolling with the smear campaign). Now the royals have to work around HER, and she’s not doing anything until she feels like it, as written here. Also, don’t feel sorry for Kate, she signed up for this as it states in this Kate sanctioned piece. She walked in with eyes wide open and she wants this. It’s very Melania Trump. She doesn’t want sympathy because this is the life she planned for. Kate isn’t a victim, she is the driving force of her life and she will not go quietly. She is not afraid.

      • swirlmamad says:

You KNOW she’s probably uttered the words “Try and get rid of me and see what happens” or something along those lines to W. I agree that she is not intimidated or scared of William. I think they are both toxic, terrible people who feed off of each other, and bring out the worst in each other. This woman is clawing tooth and nail to keep her position and rank as William’s wife and the Future Queen. She’s not quietly sitting by and weeping as her evil husband tosses her aside like a pile of old rags for his next conquest. Girlfriend is a schemer and yes, she’s giving Ol’ Willy as good as she gets. If we ever get to see behind the veil…whew, chile. This will make the War of the Waleses look like a playground arm-wrestling match.

      • Jais says:

Is this her revenge for the affair rumors recirculating? It’s just bizarre that William lets Kate go on record saying this stuff that makes him look terrible. So maybe he just has to let her do this in exchange for the wandering peen. It’s just weird.

      • Rapunzel says:

JT- she’s sowing the seeds for the post divorce PR narrative. But even though she won’t go quietly, I’m not sure she’ll win the eventual war of the Cambridges. Kate might be able to play William, but the rest of the family might have her number.

I see a counter narrative being sown of “Kate is simple country girl not up to the job.” That comes from Will I think. The recent “she spoke garble” article is an example. There will come a time when Will says “it’s over. You wanna fight me or just play it as the pressure was too much for you?” and Kate will have to choose.

      • ABritGuest says:

Thank you JT. From the Tatler CTG piece to this which were all sanctioned by the palace, Kate has been held up as the great white hope of the monarchy & usually at William’s so rage induced can barely get up in the morning’s expense. She is very much in control of her PR & image & because younger female royals tend to be more popular (except Harry when he was single), she is being sold hard as the future of the monarchy.

These pieces also keep saying how steely, ice cold Kate can be and I believe that. It’s very interesting that William’s anger issues constantly come up. We know how the palace/press like to project. Why do I feel like the Times bullying claims where an employee said they couldn’t stop shaking because Meghan didn’t answer a phone is actually a repacked story about William?

Richard Palmer said Kate is unlikely to increase her engagement numbers for next 10-15 years as she prioritises her children. As a taxpayer that makes me furious but I also laugh at how the Windsors played themselves letting jealousy etc to cause Harry & Meghan’s exit. Not only has it impacted personal relationships for William & Charles but they lost people who actually wanted to work hard. I doubt they ever contemplated losing Harry & I can believe that William has been very upset by it all (even if he was a key player in it- it blew up in his face). Whereas Kate has been the biggest beneficiary of Meghan slander & with her gone gets to do the bare minimum, but still get hyped up as the monarchy’s saviour. Honestly well played to Kate.

The press played themselves too losing access to royals who were probably more dynamic. because constant puff pieces about someone who they claim doesn’t have opinions, is a traditional wife & mother etc probably doesn’t get much clicks after a while. As someone said on the BBC princes and the press show, Meghan is not boring, will give you a sound bite etc .so now they have to attach Meghan to most royal stories to ensure clicks. almost every Kate birthday article referenced Meghan. Apparently a Sun article mentioned her 25 times.

If I never hear this bridesmaid rehearsal story again it will be too soon. Meghan correcting it on Oprah really got under Kate’s skin which is why we’ve heard gazillion versions since. Meghan said the whole institution knew what had happened Kate was probably really nasty to her which is why she sent flowers but also why Kate hadn’t discussed it much.

I think Jason Knauf is the source for Meghan had told him a different version. As Meghan said on Oprah people who were at the rehearsal were trying to tell the comms team that Meghan didn’t make Kate cry & they didn’t want to say what truly happened (because Kate apologised & it was water under the bridge) but at least correct that part. I think that’s why finding freedom claimed there were no tears at the rehearsal.

      • Becks1 says:

@Rapunzel – you and I are on the same page here, mostly. I do think this PR push is part of a desperate attempt to stop the divorce from happening – how can William divorce a woman who is so ESSENTIAL to the future of the monarchy?!?!?!

But that said, I agree with you that this is also part of the post divorce PR narrative, where she’s going to try to portray William as angry, unable to function or cope with the pressures, etc. Like I said last week, I think she will be presented with two options – go quietly or fight – and she’ll have to pick one.

No way she wins any war of the Cambridges. I think the Windsors have been planning for her departure for some time now.

      • JT says:

@Rapunzel The simple country girl narrative is from Kate I believe. That’s what she wants people to think about her because chica is still trying to remake herself into an aristo. She wants the people to believe she is a quiet, meek, shy, girl who was unwillingly thrust into the spotlight but she she can deal with it because she is just like the queen mother. That’s how she wants the public to see her and it works because too many people see her as a helpless woman child, controlled by everyone around her, even here. As if she’s controlled by Carole, she IS Carole. Ultimately, yes, if William wants her gone, she will absolutely lose the PR war but she will give him a run for his money. William coasting his whole life really bit him in the ass because the family man PR really put him in a box.

      • Sofia says:

Agree with you and all the replies here. If she wasn’t so rude to Meghan, I truly would give her a big round of applause to her for it all but alas.

      • Rapunzel says:

JT- Kate won’t be fighting Will in a post divorce battle. She’ll be fighting the BRF, the courtiers, and royal sycophant press. There will be no run for the money. She will be crushed. Unless she has some secret ace up her sleeve, which I doubt.

As for the country girl narrative, you’re probably right. I don’t see Kate sanctioning the “garbled” story though. The stories that make Kate look lazy and inept are from William or the press that hates her.

      • JT says:

She will absolutely be crushed by the British media, which means William and the family because in reality, they are both the same. The press and the palace are kith and kin as we’ve seen with the H&M situation. They will be working together if the Keens ever get divorced. Kate will ultimately lose but I don’t think she will quietly go away. She’s spent 20 years trying to secure the bag, so I just don’t believe she would slink off into the night. She isn’t afraid of William nor is she afraid of the family. Girl had her uncle telling people to skip Charles and give the crown to Kate. I think the garbled story came from the man who wrote it because he’s getting tired of the embiggening mess, most of the press seems over it. It’s getting ridiculous at this point. As far as I have seen, William hasn’t really went after Kate the way she does him, and you have to wonder why. Maybe he’s just to busy getting at Kate with his affairs to really launch a smear campaign against her.

      • notasugarhere says:

JT, I doubt William considers Kate at all when it comes to his affairs. Meaning, he doesn’t cheat to ‘get at’ Kate because he’s always cheated and she’s always accepted it. What Kate/Mummy do not accept are when the affairs go public, which is why we’ve seen such obvious Middleton-directed, pro-Kate, anti-William PR for the past few years.

      • Beach Dreams says:

THANK YOU @JT. I don’t know how much more evidence people need to see that Kate is the exact opposite of the delicate flower image that’s been crafted for her. A delicate flower doesn’t display decades-long mean girl behavior, doesn’t exploit the vigils of murdered women, doesn’t act like an attention whore at a freaking FUNERAL, etc…

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Becks1, I agree that these pieces to which she characterizes the Bitter Brother as her only defense against him. Otherwise, she has nothing to bring to the table. I think that discussions about divorce have been spoken about for at least a year, or more, given these articles of lies perpetrated by CarolE and Kate. They may be sending warning shots but they have nothing compared to the power of The Monarchy. Kate should keep her nose down and her mouth shut, if she knows what’s good for her. I suspect that the Bitter Brother has been looking for her replacement for at least the past year. Should he find another wife, which will happen after TW passes, Chaz would happily agree to a divorce as he has seen what Kates family, and he pervy Uncle, are capable of. The Meddlings have already gone after Chaz and he isn’t the one you want to go to the mat with.

    • Tangerinetree says:

Well, K is bolting out of the gate in 2022! In her corner, K has that she will be the mother of the FFFK and she must have quite a bit on W because all of these articles paint her husband as a pathetic fool. Last year there were numerous negative C and W stories, so yes, it seems as if K is definitely not afraid. Yet, as some have pointed out, the Keens do work well together to lie about and bully others when it benefits the both of them. Truly a love match, lol. Another version leaked of the bridesmaids’ incident this time blatantly calling M a liar shows what a true psycho K is. And if she is declaring that she does not want to work for yet another 10-15 years, she is just daring anyone to challenge her. So she disparages her FFK husband, calls M a liar (so glad H&M left this sordid place), and is not going to up her workload? Whew, good luck, RF.

  12. Amy Bee says:

I’m not getting why William is so angry at Harry. This was all his doing. Plus, I don’t believe Kate was behind the scenes at the statue unveiling because if she was there, that tidbit would have been leaked to the press a long time ago. Another thing, the reason, Kate doesn’t talk about the bridesmaid incident is because she knows that she was wrong for doing what she did to Meghan. If she was in the right, we would have heard the complete story by now.

    • RoyalBlue says:

Absolutely Amy. I believe that Kate showed her true Catty colors at the bridesmaid fitting and made the fatal error of admitting it (via apology and flowers). This is the big cover up ever since.

    • Tessa says:

I think William was a lot worse to Harry than what was chronicled in the Lacey book. William told Harry to slow down, Harry told him to mind his own business re: Meghan. But William just kept it up and get confrontational. He was actively working against Harry and Meghan also after the wedding. He staged the Flybe stunt to put down his brother. And did not hesitate to look daggers at Harry and Meghan and “snubbed” Meghan. I don’t think Kate was wanted by William at that unveiling.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Tessa: No doubt William did a lot of bad things to Harry. I don’t believe that Harry cut William off for telling him to slow down. It was never that simple.

    • notasugarhere says:

IMO William has always believed Harry exists to take the fall. That Harry was never allowed to be an independent human but was born simple to be William’s whipping boy. William bullied Harry when they were kids and the situation has never changed. Meghan was a flashpoint, but Harry has sought to get away from William his entire life.

      • Nic919 says:

I think Harry confronting William about how they used stories about Meghan to hide his affair is what caused Harry to leave. This is the disagreement that is “space” between them.

      • deering24 says:

Agreed–Harry was supposed to do his “duty” and suck up whatever treatment William gave him and his family. How dare Harry not take the FFK’s abuse? 🤮🤮

  13. Eurydice says:

Well, there you are, people. Stop expecting Kate to actually accomplish anything. Her role is established – to uphold “traditional values” and keep William from going off the deep end. She’s being praised for this and will be “loved” for it. As for the increased duties that come from a reduced number of working royals, that’s easy- just don’t do them. People will adjust.

    • equality says:

Why would she do more duties when the press gives her credit for doing more when she really doesn’t?

  14. Lauren Too says:

They are exhausting people with all this coverage of this child-woman who is turning 40 and has done nothing of worth. Nothing they write is going to change that.

  15. Marivic says:

Kate’s backbone is Meghan. She cannot even be 40 without Meghan. All that puff piece is about how weak and dull Kate is and the only time these royal sources can uplift her is to bring up Meghan’s name. Clearly the British know that their future queen consort is nothing without Duchess Meghan. It’s a bitter pill that’s hard to swallow. But swallow you Brits must. You ’re left with a shallow, inarticulate and zero confident future queen who cannot stand shoulder to shoulder with legitimate global leaders. She will never be a global icon like her mother in law and sister in law.

    • Brit says:

It’s like they know Kate is not that girl but they praise her because she’s British and they have to make sure their homegrown English rose is not an embarrassment but the problem is that they want Meghan to embrace them and give them access and they’re angry that she didn’t, so they have to punish her but also want her at the same time. Kate’s sole purpose to the tabloids is Meghan. That is embarrassing.

  16. Andrew's Nemesis says:

Seems like Panic Stations at Casa Middleton. This isn’t just embiggening, it’s saying how ‘indispensable’ Wiglets is to the monarchy. PWT remains the angry adult baby who needs to be soothed, and only Wiglets manages to tame the beast. I do think this is all gearing up to an inevitable divorce, and Kate wants to make sure that she will receive her requisite titles and support.

    • Rapunzel says:

Smells like, “Kate knows her days are numbered and is getting ducks in a row to paint Willyboy as a true dick in the post divorce campaign.”

Ma Midds and Katie Keen ain’t about to go without taking him down with them.

    • notasugarhere says:

If they divorce, she ends up with a title William and the kids won’t use. They (along with Wife #2) will move to the Wales titles. If William did pay for a huge part of the Midds new home, he would have done that as a form of post-nup. Kate won’t end up with a big payout like Diana.

    • KFG says:

Yep!! She and Ma Midds have been going at Chuck and PWT trying to make sure keen gets her crown. I really believe both Chuck and Bill are trying to get rid of her before the queen dies bc they don’t want her to use the Welsh-funds in the divorce. She failed the press miserably and her Kate keen 40 hasn’t garnered enough clicks to justify the expense of her bday biggening. I think the RR are pissed bc they’re broke and the keens are boring and Kate is a vapid waste. So yeah the constant shade is the press getting ready to start going after her again.

  17. Ann says:

So they admit that William didn’t want to the go to the unveiling with Harry? As in, he couldn’t put his issues with his brother aside to honor his beloved late mother? OK then.

    • JT says:

But it’s funny because the unveiling wasn’t happening without Harry. He needed Harry to attend otherwise nobody would care and that’s why Harry got to dictate that none of the rota would be allowed, hence the unveiling for the press part two, which nobody cares about.

    • notasugarhere says:

It also leaked William said loads of nasty things about Harry during the second event, the public statue unveiling that Harry did not attend.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Oh do tell? I did not know that.

      • notasugarhere says:

His public speech was all about united brotherly love, but people from the event leaked the kind of nasty anti-Harry comments William was spreading about the crowd.

    • Beach Dreams says:

I mean, it was pretty apparent in the footage of the event. William didn’t even want to look at or interact with Harry. He looked tense at certain points while Harry was relaxed and laughing it up with their maternal aunts.

    • AmelieOriginal says:

It was pretty obvious by the way the statue unveiling was filmed that the videographer had received strict orders to only film William when allowed. If you watch the footage, you’ll notice the videographer follows William’s progression as he enters and shakes hands with people (some are Diana’s sisters I think so his aunts), completely overlooking Harry for the most part. The camera includes Harry if Harry is standing right next to William and can’t be cut off in the shot (meaning if half of Harry’s body is in the shot talking to someone, Harry is entirely included as it would be awkward to have half of Harry and all of William in one video frame). Obviously for the unveiling with the sheet Harry is included but the videographer tries to solely focus on William when he can. And that works to William’s detriment because it’s mostly a long video of the back of his bald head from a distance which makes for very boring and honestly unflattering footage. This was his petty way of hitting back at his brother and trying to exclude his video presence since he couldn’t exclude Harry’s physical presence.

  18. Amy Bee says:

What have learned during the week of Kate at 40:

    – She’s just like the Queen Mother (not a great comparison given QM was racist and treated her great grandsons differently because one was the heir).

    – She has a spine of steel.

    – William is a emotional wreak who is calmed down by Kate on a regular basis.

    – Meghan is remains in Kate’s head and she needs to tear her down to feel superior to her.

    • equality says:

I wonder why she wants to be compared to QM. Are they trying to say she drinks a lot and that’s what keeps her calm?

      • Amy Bee says:

@equality: Despite her terrible flaws, the QM was very much beloved by public maybe even more than the Queen and I think Kate wants be loved by the public in the same way.

    • Tessa says:

Oh and she’s another Diana. But the ardent stans slam Diana and say Kate is “better.” LOL.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Tessa: Most, if not all, royalists hate Diana but they try not to be too blatant about it because she was William’s mother. If she wasn’t William’s mother they would talking about her in the same manner they do Meghan.

      • Tessa says:

I see some comments about Diana that are quite awful And from Kate stans. It seems that Diana is used to praise Kate by them (e.g. Diana would have loved Kate) then she is slammed (Kate is so much better than Diana and talking of Diana’s “behavior”). Then Meghan is brought into it (Diana would not have liked Meghan, et al.). And ironically, IMO William is decidedly Charles’ son in his behavior.

      • notasugarhere says:

William got the worst of both parents, Harry got the best.

    • notasugarhere says:

So Kate’s a controlling, jealous, drunk, spendthrift, racist, social climbing party girl who loves the position but not her husband? Check.

    • TeamMeg says:

Spine of steel and ice in her veins. Sounds like the description of a scary witch!

    • Emma says:

      – Kate does not like diversity because she values “tradition” so much

  19. Liz Version 700 says:

Will this behind the scenes magic be counted towards her yearly event totals? Seriously, she must have been a lunatic towards Meghan at that dress fitting to still be so defensive about it?!? The more you talk the worse it looks. The reason she never puts a foot wrong is because she keeps inserting them into her mouth. So much over the top was for a birthday?!

    • Tessa says:

Kate has let slip the “mean” looks. I remember when she scolded George for something ( at her sister’s wedding), her eyes blazing with anger. Must have been a lot worse expression around Meghan.

      • L84Tea says:

One of the funniest Kate moments ever was coming out of church–it must have been Christmas day but I don’t remember the year (it was pre-Meghan I think), and Eugenie suddenly walked right in front of her down the steps, almost pushing Kate out of her way. Kate paused and turned to look at Eugenie and had the funniest expression on her face, as if to say “You did NOT just do that to ME.” But Eugenie didn’t even look back at her and completely ignored her. Great moment witnessing Kate in her grandness.

  20. equality says:

I’d suggest that this “writer” take a look at the video of Phil’s funeral instead of one posed-for snap. Then she could see “composed” Kate try to flirt with H during a funeral or how she ran straight for him afterwards.

  21. Chelsea says:

They’re making it so obvious that William was the one who made the comment about Archie’s skin color because the only times William is referenced directly in that interview is when Harry is asked about their relationship and he says it is “space” and when he says that his brother and father are trapped. Neither of those two comments in any way explain all of these diatribes about how “Harry and Meghan attacked William”. Neither one of those statements accused William of doing anything wrong; it only makes sense for him to be this incandescent with rage if he was the racist and is upset that Harry told Meghan about it and she mentioned it.

Granted i feel like we all knew it was him the minute she said it but it’s amazing how obvious they are being. Also so funny that the same publication that ran a story about William wanting Harry and Meghan exiled to Africa in 2019 and posted that quote in January 2020 about how William said he could no longer put his arm around his brother anymore are now like: “everyone is so shocked that out of nowhere in 2021 Harry imploded his relationship with his brother who’d spent the last two years leaking about how he dropped him like a potato!!” Lol these people are nuts

    • notasugarhere says:

From what has been released, it was more than one person making racist comments. Money is on both William and Kate.

      • Lady D says:

It has always been Charles or William for the racist comment. Other family members were barely considered, aside from Ann. Which report/er is trying to tar Kate with this racist brush? Dare we hope they are turning on her?

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate has always been high on the list of possibilities. I put it down to her general stupidy, along with instrinsic racism. Just think of ‘test the smell by smelling it’ type comments but about race.

      • Nic919 says:

Have they even removed that racist painting from their KP sitting room? Kate would have been the one who chose it so she’s just as racist as William. And you can tell that the school kids she visits who aren’t white also pick up on it.

  22. SnarcasmQueen says:

The whole overall theme of these stories is “no matter how poor of a husband William is, no matter how much you hate her work ethic, or her terrible fashion, no matter what royal family drama comes and goes, or how far William wanders, Kate will be queen. Suck it, haters”… which, ma’am….

  23. Rapunzel says:

Someone theorized on here recently that perhaps there were some “protocol” rules (like no coming to Sandringham if not engaged) that were just made up to keep the Middletons out. And that perhaps that’s why Kate keeps harping on protocol and is mad at Meghan (cause there’s lots of protocol that nobody cares if Meghan follows it). And I’m wondering if this is true. I’m wondering if Ma Midds and Kate have discovered that the Windsors just haven’t ever wanted them in the family. Or worse, that William was behind the excuses for keeping them out. It’s possible that William invented certain fictions to keep distanced from pushy Carole and limpet Kate. Or convinced the family to do that. But then he married Kate basically due to having no choice/wanting to thumb his nose at the family. She never knew just how much he lied about these rules. Now she does and she is trying to queen herself for revenge. It explains the panic. And the flashy.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Interesting – I think the protocol was likely made up by the couturiers to keep them away from TQ, at one point William was pushing them onto the Queen but that quickly fell to the wayside and they went back to the sidelines.

The Middletons would dearly LOVE an invite up to the big house – why to you think they encamp en masse at Amner every Christmas (using Button’s birthday as the reason). The Mids will only get close to their dream of BEING the RF when Buttons becomes QC, even then they will still be pushed to the background. However the marriage won’t last that long.

      • Rapunzel says:

DU-the way TQ has shaded Kate –from,”What does she do?” to the public blanking at the Covid Choo-Choo event– it’s clear to me Betty has always had Kate’s number. She’d definitely keep the Midds away with fake rules. And Will probably just fell in line.

I think if things hadn’t gone sideways, Doria would’ve gotten a trip to the big house before Carole and Co.

    • Wadsworth the Butler says:

The monarchy has never been particularly welcoming to in-laws, but the “no ring no bring” rule at Sandringham was not created for Kate and did not single her out. For example, Sophie and Edward dated for years, but she was not invited to Christmas until after their marriage. Carole would probably very much liked to have been invited to Sandringham for Christmas, but the Queen almost never invites in-laws. That being said, I don’t think the Queen or Charles care for Carole Middleton very much and are wary of her influence over Kate and particularly William.

  24. Genevieve says:

This line: “ Kate appears composed but defiant… ” re: Kate at the funeral, is hilarious.

She’s a nothing white woman who has no female friendships because she wants to be better than all other women in the room, while knowing she never could be. She’s insecure because she’s ‘keenly’ aware of her shortcomings. True confidence is quiet, tranquil and self-possessed. All of these pieces only work to showcase the depths of this mediocre woman’s profound insecurities.

  25. Linney says:

I still am confused as to what Kate did at Prince Phillip’s funeral that was so amazing, steely, etc. She “brought the brothers together?” She impressed the world with her “dignity”? Did I watch a different funeral? Furthermore, it is interesting how to promote Kate the PR machine is doing two things: bashing Meghan and, in its own way, bashing William. Kate is the strong one, Kate is the calming influence, Kate is the only one who can buoy William up. These types of statements make William out to be a dolt. (Not that I disagree!) But it does make me wonder if certain people are trying to build her up in the court of public opinion so William doesn’t give her the heave-ho.

    • Tessa says:

The other royal women dressed appropriately for the funeral. Kate stood out like a sore thumb. She posed for a fashion shoot and wore that expensive necklace. Very bad taste. Harry obviously did not linger around her.

    • windyriver says:

One other thing she did – once the service was over, and they were outside the church where everyone (photographers) could see – she threw her arm around Charles’ shoulder and gave him a kiss. Of course, her face was facing the cameras. It was so obviously a piece of theater if I’d been there I’d have slugged her. Then she went off after Will and Harry to do the rest of her peacekeeper performance.

There were articles with pictures in a few papers with headlines about her sympathetic gesture to Charles, but unhappily for Kate it didn’t seem to get much traction, overall.

  26. Sofia says:

Imagine being 40 years old and unable to let go of an incident that’s 3.75 years old at this point. Even if Kate did cry (and let me make it clear that I believe Meghan), she needs to move on. How people keep/kept thinking about a crying incident that was nearly 4 years ago? It’s just sad and pathetic.

    • Tessa says:

Kate should not have been allowed to interfere in Meghan’s wedding. And other attendants at royal weddings did not wear tights, just the socks and shoes.

  27. Abby says:

Yikes. I’m turning 38 this year and today is my 12th anniversary with my husband (who is 40. 😆). He wrote me the nicest note noticing all kinds of good things about me and it really meant a lot.

Which is partly why this article feels so cringe to me. What does it say about a person that, to celebrate a milestone birthday…you have to tear down her husband? Is this the only way they can make her look good? I would feel so sad and embarrassed if an article like this was written about me. About my husband. It’s so deeply unflattering. If I loved my husband, I would never want this kind of stuff written about him, especially in an article that is supposed to be praising me.

    • Shells says:

Agree @abby. I just turned 40 and it actually made me sad for Kate reading this… like, THIS is supposed to be all the good things about her and her life??

    • ArtHistorian says:

That is the issue in a nutshell – the only way they can make Kate look good is to tear other people down, whether it be Meghan, William or Queen Letizia of Spain. Kate is not only lazy, she has also cultivated a image of blandness that is so strong that there’s nothing to say about her because she’s made her public persona into a a complete cipher. There’s no there “there” -and she has no significant accomplishments under her belt because all her royal “work” consists of photo ops. So she can only be elevated by tearing other people down, which also says a lot about not only her but also about the RR’s who absolutely love to diss Meghan but who I also sense don’t really like Kate that much and know that she’s a non-starter.

      • Jennifer says:

I still think blandness is the best way to be in the BRF, though.

That said, I don’t much care about her.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate isn’t trying for blandness, Jennifer, she wants to be seen as Royally Keen and Special. If she was going for bland, she wouldn’t have wasted millions on an ugly wardrobe over the past decade, parade around in silly outfits like the Bond one, or pull stunts like the piano playing and this photo shoot.

  28. Smices says:

What happens when after all this hyping up of Kate, the young, lovely savior of the monarchy, she doesn’t become queen until she’s 60/65? And she’s done fuck all in that time? The younger generation will truly not care, her kids will have stolen the press spotlight and all she’ll be left with is having been the rock for her cheating husband and being “better” than Meghan to conservative, xenophobic Brits. My guess is she’s praying Charles doesn’t reign long, or at all, so she can get that crown on her head while she still has being “the pretty one” in the royal family to latch onto.

  29. Mina_Esq says:

Not flashy? She used to literally flash everyone at every outdoor event with even the slightest gust of wind.
And, you guys, how is William allowing this? He is coming across as someone that needs supervisory care and is in a constant state of anger.

    • deering24 says:

That flashy mention is always a slam at Meghan. Us WOC can’t help but be too noisy, sexy, and overdressed, y’know…🤮🤮

      • Mina_Esq says:

Oh it absolutely is shade at Meghan’s purported flashy Hollywood image. I’m just looking at the word in its most literate sense – Kate used to regularly flash her undies at almost every engagement. There were photos of her sunbathing topless. I have no real issue with any of that, but to suggest that she is some shy, low key, private person is simply dishonest.

      • Nic919 says:

They were always trying to slam Meghan for love scenes in movies and tv, which didn’t reveal anything. The reality is that kate has exposed more of her private areas to the public than Meghan ever has. And kate didn’t have a reason for it other than being an exhibitionist.

  30. Tessa says:

Her “fashion shoot” at Philip’s funeral still creeps me out. The way she gazes into the cameras and poses.

  31. blackfemmebot says:

My theory is that KKKeen is trying to make herself look regal, indispensable and impressive because she knows that William is resentful and jealous that H married a woman whose incredible character and achievements reflect well on him. H has always been intelligent and impressive but when he got with M Harry seriously started to look and act like a global statesman/renowned philanthropist and W yearns to be viewed the same way. KKKeen has no interest in actually becoming an impressive woman so will just gaslight the rest of us into believing she is.

  32. Veda says:

Kate and her tears…. enough already! I bet on Kate’s coronation day we still get a Meghan made Kate cry v.99798.

  33. girl_ninja says:

The way that Kate allows people/sources to talk about her husband is disgusting. And why can’t this woman pick a lane? Who does she want to be seen as? Cool girl Meghan? Old Queen Mother? Therapist Wife? She is a messy, disrespectful woman who only seems to care about her image.

And whatever went down at that dress fitting was way worse that we know. She must have been so nasty and awful to Meghan.

  34. A says:

So, my working theory on the statue shenanigans is that Carole Middleton was most likely trying to scheme her way into making an appearance, especially after that Levin woman put out into the universe that she was the “mother” he never had. Balding decided to shut it down, and ruin her peacemaking story, by showing he could stand next to his brother without assistance. What I don’t understand is why the pr morons at KP are team Keen, as opposed to William on these stories? I mean if William ever decides he’s had enough, their all going to be out on their asses! Despite all these so called puff pieces (so called because there not exactly making Keen eye roller look great!), it’s become clear she’s not Diana. If William ever wants to be done with her, that’s it . Even if it comes out that he cheated on her everyday and twice on Sundays, she’s not going to get a lot sympathy (not after this at least) so what gives?

    • Veda says:

This is William’s atonement for the Rose affair becoming public. I embarrassed you so you can embarrass me… but pls don’t leave.

      • SenseOfTheAbsurd says:

She probably loves it when he screws around – blackmail material for controlling him.

    • Christine says:

Seriously, this makes it seem like Keen was hiding behind a tree at the statue unveiling with Wills’ binky and special blanket, maybe a warmed bottle. It’s really not a good look for any of them.

  35. one of the marys says:

“She never predicted the degree of falling out between them.”
This is the part I believe and it threw a wrench into all her plans. She’ll never be free of Meghan’s shadow in the media and that’s a comparison she deserves

  36. ThatsNotOkay says:

So they let Knaud go on record defending/praising Kate after all the shit-ake he did publicly to malign Kate’s sister-in-law? #Trash, the both of them.

BTW, is Knauf still working for KP and did he never move on to greener cow patty pastures? Of course.

    • Jaded says:

You can bet your last dollar Knauf is still working behind the scenes. He is still William’s toady and boot-licker, and if William ever gives him the AOK, he will turn his Machiavellian wiles against Kate. I see all Kates self-aggrandizing at William’s expense as her only way of setting herself up as some kind of saint when the ball finally drops on their marriage. It’s going to be UGLY.

    • Nic919 says:

Knauf posted on linked in that he’s leaving and moving to India where his husband has a position. But I’m sure he will be unofficially helping behind the scenes.

  37. MerryGirl says:

When will this pathetic, shallow, botoxed, 2-chord Middle C fingered, jealous, copyKat realize that nobody outside the Royal bubble cares about her. Sure she’s not flashy but flies in a foreign photographer to snap 3 bygone era photos to commemorate what? A lazy, unfulfilled life where unless she tears down her sister-in-law or gets her sycophantic media friends to flatter her she’ll not be news. And I’m with Kaiser, if I hear one more time about the bridesmaid dresses or how she didn’t panic when Meghan came, God help me!

No amount of fluff pieces will erase what we saw with our own eyes (no manners & bitch face at Commonwealth Service, rolling eyes and ‘what else’ at the mention of Meghan, cohorting with Jason Knauf to undermine her SIL) and no amount of rewriting history will erase that she’s a mean girl who leaked the “Meghan made Kate Cry” story and left it uncorrected to this day.

  38. MerryGirl says:

Is she not embarrassed that at 40, only KP sources and media sycophants can speak up for her? And they can’t list a single achievement? Where are her childhood friends, her current friends, former co-workers, current charity or patronage heads? Nobody? Anybody?

  39. Andrea says:

I don’t think she paniced when Meghan joined the family. She was relieved she still didn’t have to work. However, I bet she became incensed with their love story. I know some women who aren’t happy in their marriages, who cannot be happy for anyone else either. The only reason they were unhappy about H&M leaving is because now they are expected to do work and the spotlight is on them, when Willy wants to be free to have his affairs.

    • Tessa says:

Kate also loved the attention of being with two Princes. When Meghan came along, that ended for her.

  40. kelleybelle says:

    Bullshit.

  41. deering24 says:

“…she clearly believes it’s in her best interest to make William come across as so emotional and incapable.”

Shoot, it’s not like she has to try very hard, no? 🤣😈😈

  42. Lululu says:

I’m just finding it increasingly humorous that every single article about Kate includes a justification for her behavior toward Meghan…how many years later?

    Where there’s smoke…

  43. tamsin says:

I’m in the “no divorce” camp, especially if the royal family and courtiers have a mindset stuck around the C19th. Kate has produced three robust heirs for William- technically that is all that is expected of the wife of the heir to the heir. Why bother going through a divorce, if William is free to have affairs (which he appears to do) and the official wife wants more than anything to be Queen Consort, the highest level of social climbing? They could be the next Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, which is what Charles wanted to be. However, from all accounts, Alexandra was an asset to the crown by doing her duty in all the areas expected of her. I don’t think Kate appears to measure up to Alexandra in terms of character, though. Also, having a spine of steel in the face of adversity is one thing; it is quite another to have a spine of steel in your machinations to keep your social status.

  44. Amy Bee says:

I think it’s interesting that Kate chose to not do a sit down interview with some of the rota but instead sent out her staff to repeat talking points and to bash Meghan.

    • Becks1 says:

It’s because she’s not flashy and didn’t want the attention on her, AmyBee. Duh.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Becks: Oh my mistake. How could I forget this when KP and friends have been at pains to make that clear in every Kate at 40 piece last week. Her birthday fashion shoot made me forget for a moment that she’s not flashy and is not an attention-seeker.

    • Marivic says:

She’s a terrible speaker. Mumbles and inarticulate and very shallow insights. So I don’t think she likes interviews. She will be found out to be dumb.

  45. Greenfingers says:

No kids and no husband in sight in the keen bday pics. I know it’s aBout her and all, but I don’t know why it has all my alarm bells going off

  46. Tara says:

    Translation: she panicked.

  47. Nyro says:

That’s got to be the longest piece of gas lighting trash I’ve ever read. “Kate didn’t panic or react to Meghan’s popularity”, ” Kate is a hard worker”, “Kate never responded to Meghan’s “lies”, ” Kate is in charge of her projects”, “Kate shines”, ” William.is supportive and loves the attention Kate receives”. Um…what?! None of that is true. The entire article is nothing but paragraph after paragraph of either phony compliments that are really just shady attacks on Meghan or completely appropriating Meghan’s strengths and attributing them to Kate. These people are sick and diabolical. And I’ll say it again, Kate is WORSE than William could ever be. Her obsessive jealousy of Meghan goes even further than William’s of Harry.

Oh, and it’s a small thing but I noticed how they mentioned Tatler’s tea on Kate having William’s pictures on her wall at school and how she demamded that bit of information be removed from the Tatler piece. A few months the ago there were several articles in the tabloids, both in the UK and USA, about how Meghan was supposedly obsessed with William in high school and had posters of him on her walls. It’s clear that this was coming directly from Kate and KP. The fact that she set her sights on William as a teen and was the pursuer in their relationship clearly embarrasses her, thus her attempt to pass it off as something Meghan did.

  48. The Recluse says:

    Bahahahahahahahaaa!

  49. LynneF says:

Really surprised to see a quote by Jason Knauff!

  50. blunt talker says:

I truly sense that miss katie is a very mean-spirited woman who smiles in public functions but is brooding at home while the cameras are off-Katie dear the articles about you should be only about you-not Meghan who has left your shores close to two years ago-true journalists should know how to write about you without interjecting the names of others-you are the big bad future queen-you should demand all journalist write only about you and your family and do not include names of people no longer working for the royal family-they actually have an article about did Harry and Meghan wish Kate a happy birthday? By not communicating over social media the Sussexes did not step on your parade-Kate and William need to step up and challenge Charles for the crown-all this bollyhoo sounds like they are aiming to do just that-You need to show the world that you are sane and capable of running things without having to resort to using the Sussexes name in all things Cambridge.

  51. bisynaptic says:

  52. ChattyCath says:
