Rita Ora & Taika Waititi had an ‘intimate’ wedding ceremony in London

Taika Waititi recently spoke about how he wonders if he’s going through a midlife crisis. I think this news is a pretty bad sign that he is. Taika began dating Rita Ora in the spring of 2021. They were both in Australia, in lockdown, for an extended period of time. Once their work ended, their love tour began. They were in Europe, they were in LA, they were in New York. A few months ago, we heard rumors that they were engaged. And now this: they had a quiet wedding in London. So quiet that Rita had to leak the news to a columnist for the Sun.

Rita Ora has tied the knot with Taika Waititi less than two months after I told how the Hollywood director had popped the question. The Hot Right Now singer said I do in an intimate ceremony in London, and will now go by the name Mrs Waititi-Ora. But rather than taking time out for a luxurious honeymoon, Rita is already back to the grind and recording new music in the studio.

A source said: “It was a really intimate ceremony and super special for everyone there. Their nearest and dearest can see how madly in love they are. Despite living in the spotlight, Rita is determined to keep the relationship as private as possible and didn’t want to make a big song and dance about the wedding. A big, showbiz-style bash is planned to celebrate, but don’t expect to see it being flogged to the highest-bidding magazine. Rita’s already back in the studio working on her third album, with her latest session being with Ava Max and Noah Cyrus’ writer Rollo.”

Nice of Rita to give an update on her music career at the same f–king time she’s leaking the news about the wedding! Anyway, I’ll buy that they had a quiet ceremony in London. I wonder if Taika’s kids were there. I wonder if this midlife crisis is going to end at some point. I wonder how long this marriage will last. Congrats to Rita and Taika, I guess.

Who does Rita think she is, j.lo?

  2. Silver Charm says:

I’m sure we will get to see the big splashy 2nd wedding. They both love the attention and Rita maintains her lifestyle mainly thru brand deals and sponsorships so this’ll be a an ad campaign disguised as a wedding with mountains of *party favors*.

  3. Glamarazzi says:

I don’t know who she is but I loved JoJo Rabbit and think he’s very talented. People keep telling me to watch Our Flag Means Death and I want to get to it soon – before HBO Max & Discovery platforms merge and things get messy.

    • ME says:

Wait HBO Max and Discovery are merging ?? When ??

    • tealily says:

It’s so good, @Glamarazzi. Real feel-good fare in a weary world.

    • Nanny to the Rescue says:

I am in the minority who found Our Flag Means Death really bad (and I love Taika’s work otherwise, everything from the Thors to JoJo to What We Do In The Shadows to his best creation of all, Boy).

Congrats to the couple. For their sake, I hope it lasts.

  4. ME says:

I don’t know why but I like these two together. I really hope they have a happy marriage.

    • ADS says:

I like them together too. And this is hardly a hasty move seeing as they have been together for over a year now. I wonder if Kaiser is wrong on this one. Time will tell I guess.

    • anna says:

me too. they seem to have such great chemistry it makes me envious.

    • Philly says:

I like them together too. Whether they’ll last, who knows but marriage isn’t really forever these days and they seem to be enjoying each other right now so that’s all that matters.

Is Rita really still claiming music as a profession? I will always share that I cannot stand her for the shade she tried to show Princess Duchess Meghan. Good to them. I do hope they’re happy.

They seem like a good match. Wish them luck.

That said, saw Thor: Love and Thunder over the weekend. Heat wave and apartment w/o AC drove me into the theater. I was wondering what happened to Valkyrie’s part. I felt bad about Tessa Thompson. Then I remembered the whole threesome shenanigans and really got thinking. What really happened there? Was it a case of someone outshining Hemsworth (like Hiddleston) and getting pushed aside by Taika? Or worse?

Also, if Heimdall is in Valhalla, so is someone else.

    • tealily says:

I genuinely don’t think that was a threesome, though. I think they were just partying together. Which is bad enough when he’s the boss.

  7. tealily says:

    Oh jeez, Taika.

I’m the opposite of some of you- I don’t know who he is, but I love her music. She does vocals on a lot of great EDM collaborations – Avicii, Sam Feldt, Kygo, etc. I’ve seen thru this site that she and Taika have a very open and untraditional relationship, but perhaps that’s what makes them such a good pair. Maybe it will work out- maybe not. If she has a baby soon I can see it lasting a little longer.

    • ME says:

I like her music too ! I think she is underrated as a singer. She’s actually really good !

They’re both tacky attention seekers and go well together for that reason. People are upset because he actually is talented (but also extremely shitchky and I bet there will be an extreme negative turn on the internet’s opinion of his aesthetic coming soon). But ultimately he’s a famewh*re with an accent. People will blame her or “Hollyweird” but really he was always in love with himself, even back in his NZ days. He pretended it was a joke, but it wasn’t, and the audience went along with it because he’s hot and talented.

One good thing that will come of this is at last people will stop pretending his every obnoxious statement is a joke that Americans don’t get.

I saw someone on the internet–in a tweet, maybe–say that we’re witnessing the “Lin-Manuel Miranda-fication” of Taika and I just… yes. His projects are oversaturating our consumption, and while I think he is very talented (I LOVE Our Flag Means Death), too much of a super talented person usually means 1) the quality decreases, and 2) we all get sick of them and their stuff. He annoys me even though I love his work. So yeah, I do agree with that coming negative downturn.

    • CourtneyB says:

Is already happening. Marvel Reddit was brutal over Thor 4 after swooning over Ragnarok. (Which I personally thought was way overrated.) the backlash is real.

  10. Runaway says:

I like his work. I find them both exhausting and try hard. Maybe they’ll last forever and she’s found her John legend.

  11. jferber says:

I hope they’ll be very happy. Live your best lives!

  12. lucy2 says:

I’m surprised, I didn’t know they were engaged, and didn’t think this relationship was for the long haul. But congrats to them!

  13. Bread and Circuses says:

They are such a weird couple, but they seem to really enjoy being with each other, so okay: Congratulations to the happy couple!

” I think this news is a pretty bad sign that he is.”

He’s my age, and I know from my own bad decisions in my 30s that he is happily sailing into his bad decisions in his 40s. He single-handedly saved Thor, so I’m willing to give him a minute to get over whatever covid did to his psyche.
