Sheryl Lee Ralph in Tony Ward Couture at the Spirit Awards: fabulous?

Whenever I feel sad that I’m about to turn 50, I look at celebrities like Sheryl Lee Ralph, 66, and Angela Bassett, 64, and realize that I have a lot of years to be fabulous. Sheryl was a nominee at the Independent Spirit Awards over the weekend, but that category, Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series, went to Ayo Edibiri for The Bear. (Peridot is covering Ayo in another post!) Sheryl won a Spirit Award in 1991 for To Sleep with Anger, as she explained during her presentation for Best Non-Scripted Documentary Series (that went to The Rehearsal). She said she mentioned the need in her speech 32 years ago for more representation on screen, and that Ayo’s win this year is what “change looks like.” She wasn’t mad she lost, she has plenty of other awards! Sheryl was in Tony Ward Couture, looking like a flower and styled by her talented daughter.

Quinta Brunson won Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series! She joked that you could tell by her dress, which she couldn’t walk in, that she didn’t expect to win. She dedicated her win to the kids on TikTok who get told they’re not going to make it. Quinta was wearing Ali&eaute;tte and it’s not my favorite gown, probably because she was uncomfortable in it, but she looks glam.

Jamie Lee Curtis did not win Best Supporting Performance, but her costar, Ke Huy Quan did, as the categories were gender neutral for the first time this year. Her metallic foil accented suit is by Libertine and I like it! She always looks like she’s having a good time.

Regina Hall was in Korean-American designer Andrew Kwon, and this is the first time his dresses have been worn at an awards ceremony. He issued a statement about it, about how he felt a connection with Regina after reading one of her interviews, and her statement about choosing his gown was so gracious too. Regina was nominated for Best Lead Performance, for Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul, which of course went to Michelle Yeoh. A bitch is 50! I’m queuing that video up.

this reminded me to watch the clip of her Superbowl performance…whoa, no idea she could do that!! And she looked stunning and powerful! Love this whole cast and show’s vibe!

Honking for the Indies, especially as they have to fight for attention when there’s so much RF/Con A Nation/Chubbly drama to be had.

I always liked the Indies better than other award shows because they seemed to be so relaxed re dresses/suits and styling, even if this seems to have changed quite a bit.

(Anyone remember Keanu arriving in a tattered brown suit on one of his beloved Nortons?)

Dreamy, all the outfits. Don’t care for Sheryl’s shoes with the dress. Maybe a shade of pink instead?

Not a huge fan of Sheryl’s dress. It’s a bit too “Homecoming” for my taste. LOVE Quinta and Regina’s dresses. Quinta’s dress isn’t something Iwould personally wear but In love it on her and the color is perfect for her.

Sheryl looks amazing, but she pretty much always kills it on the red carpet. I love this dress!! Quinta looks lovely too; the color is beautiful and I love her hairstyle! The dress itself isn’t my absolute favorite on her, but that’s only because her awards season style has been so strong!

I love Jamie Lee dressing for comfort with some flash, and Regina elevating a new designer and giving them a chance to shine. I’d guess her dress is one that looks better in motion/in person but she looks beautiful and I like the capelet detail.
