Thomas Markle cannot be trusted. He’s spent the last eight years ensuring that the Duchess of Sussex cannot trust him and that she has every right to ignore his abusive existence. The biggest problem is that the British media still believes that Thomas is Meghan’s weak link. They use his pitiful life as a cudgel against Meghan, they filter his lies and manipulate Thomas, and he, in turn, attempts to manipulate Meghan. Currently, Thomas is in a hospital in the Philippines, allegedly recovering in the ICU after one of his legs was amputated. That was the story at first, although the story seems to be changing – now the Daily Mail’s Caroline Graham says Thomas’s foot was amputated, not his leg. Not only that, but Thomas called Graham, a literal Daily Mail reporter, first when he needed to get his leg – no, his foot! – amputated. Graham wrote in the Mail:
I was at home in Los Angeles when the Duchess of Sussex’s father sent me a message at 6.30am on Wednesday his time saying: ‘Going to lose the leg today.’ I immediately rang his son Tom Jr – his father’s primary carer who lives with him in the Philippines – and his other daughter Samantha, who lives in Florida, to tell them of the shocking text. Both were flabbergasted. He had chosen to break the news of the amputation to me before his own family.
Including, as it happens, his youngest daughter Meghan. She and Harry live in Montecito, two hours from me in LA, where she has been busy promoting the Christmas special of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, which focuses on her love of family. There have been reports that Meghan only learned of her father’s health crisis through news coverage after the Daily Mail broke the story last week.
There have also been reports that the Duchess has ‘reached out’ to him. However, Mr Markle last night said he has not heard from Meghan ‘but would love to speak to her’.
He said: ‘Of course I want to speak to her but I am not sure if these are the right circumstances. I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her. I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband too.’
We have often spoken of the fact he has never met Prince Harry or Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, in the years since we first became friends, shortly after the Sussexes’ wedding.
Tom and I met initially through work, but instantly hit it off. He can be cantankerous at times but I admire his honesty. We speak most days and I consider him something of a father figure. He is a rock-solid friend who helped me through the deaths of my mother and brother. Yesterday, as I sat by his bed in the hospital, he smiled and said: ‘This is so surreal. We have been through a lot, you and I. What a crazy journey it has been.’
Graham claims she was in LA on Wednesday, but she’s been reporting from the Philippines since the surgery? Did she teleport there? Why did he contact her before Tom Jr., who is literally in the Philippines with his father? Why did this amputation come as news to Tom Jr.? Why is no one asking these questions? And why is the doctor telling the Mail that Toxic Tom had his foot, not his leg amputated?
Meghan Markle’s desperately ill father has sent a heartfelt message to his daughter, pleading: ‘I don’t want to die estranged.’ Thomas Markle, 81, appealed to the Duchess of Sussex to see him ‘one more time before I die’ as he lay in his hospital bed following the amputation of his left leg below the knee.
Mr Markle underwent the drastic, but life-saving surgery in a Philippines hospital on Wednesday. One of his doctors told this newspaper – with his patient’s express permission – that the surgery was a matter of ‘life or death’. The surgeon said: ‘We had to remove the foot. There was a massive blood clot in his thigh and that had stopped circulation to his foot and lower leg. It was life-or-death surgery. Had the infection in the foot moved to his heart, it would most likely have been fatal. He is doing well but he is not out of the woods yet.’
Mr Markle told this newspaper that he was ‘confused’ by widespread reports that his daughter had ‘reached out’ to contact him following his serious health scare.
The ailing pensioner said he purposely did not change his number after their rift ‘so she could always get in touch with me’ but said he did not receive any messages from her last week. With Mr Markle’s permission, this newspaper independently confirmed with the hospital that neither their administration office, reception, intensive care unit nor the nurses and doctors attending to Mr Markle had heard from Meghan or her representatives, to the best of their knowledge.
A hospital source told the MoS: ‘Mr Markle is a VIP patient. Of course we all know who he is. If Meghan or anyone connected with her had called here we would have known. It is a big hospital by Filipino standards but we all know each other and we all talk. We were all confused when we saw the story that the duchess had reached out to her dad. As far as we are aware it didn’t happen. We would love to see the duchess here in the Philippines!’
Last night a spokesman for the Sussexes said Meghan sent her father an email on Friday – but the MoS understands that it was to an address that hasn’t been active for at least five years.
Meghan sending an email to an old address is the perfect solution. That’s exactly the kind of energy she should give to this situation. Something brief: “Hope you’re doing okay, merry Christmas” and leave it at that. The Mail’s behavior and the British media’s behavior around this situation is absolutely psychotic. “Will she fly to the Philippines??” No. None of this is her responsibility or her problem. “But she has a Christmas special!” These people have lost their ever-loving minds.
A truly hilarious postscript… the Telegraph reports that Meghan emailed Thomas on Friday, to this address he claims he hasn’t used in five years. The Telegraph wrote: “It was claimed that the email was sent to an address he had not used for five years, but sources said it appeared to have been delivered and did not bounce back. Meghan’s aides have made clear that if he is willing to share a different address, it will be forwarded on.” LMAO. “We’ll be happy to forward the brief email, for sure.” Exactly.

Another way to try to manipulate Meg and she isn’t going to bite. I believe she reached out in a way and that’s really all he deserves ( he doesn’t even deserve that!). Prepare for more nasty articles and maybe even an on camera interview from her horrific sperm donor!

As Kaiser rightly asked, how did she get to the Philippines so fast ? Interesting that once people started saying that she and him are romantically involved. All of a sudden she feels the need to tell us that he is like a father figure and she lives in La. Funny so when the Daily Mail broke the story about Tom Sr in hospital in the Philippines on Friday I got the impression that the DM got this story from Tom Jr and that Tom Jr took Tom Sr to the doctor or hospital.
As it turns out all lies. It is Caroline Graham who Tom Sr contacted first and it is her sitting at Tom Sr bedside. As Kaiser said if Graham got the phone call from Tom Sr when she was in LA how comes that she is already in the Philippines at Tom Sr bedside.

There should be restraining orders against the so called journalists. This is out and out harassment. And when was the last time tom saw his elder grandchildren. I doubt he saw them at all. Nobody forced tom to accept money to go to the media to trash his daughter.

@Amy Bee I wouldn’t be surprised that they aren’t lying about him not getting the e-mail. I’m willing to bet that the DM/Caroline Graham control and/or hack and intercept that e-mail address.
If he hasn’t used it in five years that’s 2020, the year H&M escaped the UK. They probably, rightly, cut all ties with Tom & refused any & all communication with him. And with the way this is playing out, I can believe the Fail has an email set up for him since that time that they have access to.
Also, as far as I know, you don’t get bounce back emails on standard personal emails. I worked for the feds & you’d get bounce back emails for someone who didn’t work there any more–but only if IT got the notification that they’d left (some agencies are better about the off boarding process than others). As for gmail & hotmail & etc., an incorrect, non-existent email gives you a non-deliverable notification, but not an old address that someone hasn’t bothered to use in a while.
I don’t know what the truth is but if it is an issue of it being an email that he doesn’t use anymore, that would mean that he still has access to it and so therefore would be able to read the email sent to him from her. So either way, it isn’t on her that he didn’t receive an email that she wasn’t obligated to send him. She like any other person, would send an email through the email that she attaches to him and him changing it without her knowledge isn’t her fault. Besides, he is the same man who lied in numerous interviews that she changed her number after she married Harry so he was unable to contact her. A lie that didn’t make sense because he knew her address and we found out through the courts that her number never changed and that she in fact had attempted to call him over and over again when he claimed that he was in the hospital prior to the wedding. In a similar situation he contacted the media instead of contacting her or his two evil kids. We also found out that he had written her a letter and she had in fact contacted him the whole time that he was lying and saying that she hadn’t. He’s a horrible man and father. He has what he deserves in the oldest two. Just as Harry is Diana’s son and William is Charles’s son, Meghan is Doria’s daughter and the other evil two are all him. His first ex wife knows how trashy they are as well as their own kids.

This story has so many holes in it, how can anyone believe a word Thomas says? He probably didn’t even get his foot amputated and is in the hospital with the flu or something. Odd that the first person you call is a hack “journalist” from a shitty tabloid but not your kids, grandkids or great grandchildren. Someone also said that the photo he shared of himself in the ICU doesn’t look like a typical ICU but a regular hospital room.
And how can we believe this no-name doctor who was apparently given freedom to speak to the DM. Maybe he lost his foot or for all we know he lost no more than a toe.
And he’s a VIP patient, but hospital administration, reception, ICU and the nurses and doctors attending him have no problem informing a non-relative (and newspaper reporter) about personal information that should be kept confidential for any patient? And if Meghan had called the whole hospital would have known because they all know each other and talk? Great PR for the hospital.
@windyriver I was thinking the same thing. I know that HIPAA is a US thing, but it can’t reassure patients to hear someone going on the record to say yeah we’re all gossiping about your medical procedures behind the scenes. If this ” doctor” didn’t have express permission from administration they’ll probably be looking for a new job, and if they did have express permission administration should be very worried about inbound ethics complaints.

What type of doctor talks about a patient’s relationship and wanting a specific family member to visit him? And nowhere did Meghan say or imply that she contacted the hospital to speak to him so how and why would they think they would know if she contacted him or not? Do people not know that it is 2025 and that there are more ways of contacting someone besides landlines?
At least this time it’s going to easy to prove he lied. Unlike a heart attack, having your leg or foot amputated is very physical and out there, harder to fake ( i should hope)
🤷♀️ I’ve been in an ICU room when my brother had his stroke, he was moved after a couple of days to a regular room. I can honestly say I don’t recall a difference–maybe lack of adjacent restroom? Anyhoo, if Tom is posting photos/videos from his hospital room–ICU or regular–he’s OK.

Remember when he had something that made him lose his voice and he didn’t think he would ever speak again? That lasted maybe a week. They used it to try and guilt Meghan and it didn’t work. He is always “fallen ill” and begs Meghan to contact him before he dies. She knows he can’t be trusted.

If he really wanted to speak to his daughter, he would go about it every way he could to talk to her not go through the media. If he doesn’t have her phone number, why wouldn’t he think to think about the ways she had to contact him when they last spoke and monitor those modes of communication?
He doesn’t want to speak to her, at least not without the Daily Mail there, or a news camera there to record his reaction and her coming in. And the Daily Mail has already learned their lesson about printing written communication between the two of them.
The media knows that they can’t get her back to the UK, so they’re going to continue to escalate until they can get her somewhere where they can trap and bombard her. She’s not going for it. And the more that the story changes, and the more that he goes through the media instead of actually trying to speak to his daughter, through her staff, through her mother, through the method of communication that she reached out to him the clearer it becomes to people that he’s not interested in actually talking to her.
A guy who is desperate to see his beloved grandchildren doesn’t move to the Phillipines. Meghan is ignoring his words and judging him by his actions, rightly so.
Spot on, you guys. He’s trying to reel her in and get a photo or recording he can sell. Meghan likely knows. Every time my parent reaches out for “reconciliation” but does it in a manner in which it is clear that it’s really a performance to get pity from others…it’s a gut punch. Because even when you think you have totally killed off that longing to actually have a loving parent who just wants to love you…it hurts all over again.

I’m extremely low contact with a mentally ill, manipulative parent and I recognize Tom’s tactics. Meghan sent an email because it preserves the distance she needs. He wants to manipulate her into a text exchange, or a call, or a visit. He wants to wriggle his way in to more contact. Good on her for keeping the distance. And YES, we should all be asking WHY, if he’s such a great guy, his closest relationship is with a trash reporter from a tabloid over any if his children or grandchildren. He craves attention, not love.
Exactly. The British media is going to huff and puff, but they always will. However, there’s a lot of people that are no contact with family members nowadays it’s not exactly a rarity. And this behavior, especially playing out in public, is going to be so triggering and recognizable to so many people. Exactly. Meghan deliberately did not contact Tom Sr by phone because she knows that his phone is compromised and any message or phone call is passed on to Caroline Graham. An email puts distance between Meghan and Tom Sr but it also looks like that Meghan asked her staff to investigate if the story was true which creates another zone of protection for Meghan.

His craving for attention and not love isn’t more obvious than the fact that he has never mentioned wanting to ha a relationship with any of his other grandchildren. I believe he might even have some great grandchildren that he’s never met, yet his only interest is in meeting Meghan’s children because they are the only ones that his media scum will pay him to exploit. That’s why one of the things the media and him were trying to get from her just before the wedding was for her to fly to Mexico to see him. That’s why in his response letter to hers after the wedding he said that he “doesn’t care if they like him or not” he just wanted them to “take a photo with him to share with the world”. It’s why he threatened to sue her to have access to her children. That’s why in this instance his response is that he wants to see her. A reconciliation doesn’t require her being there with him in a hospital bed. Nothing has changed with him. He is still in cahoots with Caroline Graham, who signed for her letter to him and moved next door to him in Mexico and in cahoots with the racist DF. He’s still using any claimed medical issues as an excuse for her to go to him. She and Harry both offered to see him prior to the wedding, he refused. They both offered to send him transportation and protection from the media prior to the wedding. She begged for him to keep the media out of their relationship and he again refused. She has every right to protect herself and her family from this man who is siding with the media that Harry is suing for illegal information gathering which they have done to him, his mother, others and even Meghan. This just proves that he is not to be trusted.
None of this makes sense. Tom sends a text to Caroline that he going to lose his leg – before he tells his son who lives with him? So, how did Tom get to the doctor to receive this diagnosis? How did Tom get to the hospital to prepare for the surgery, all without telling his son?
I don’t know that I even believe the blood clot story. A guy with his history of heart attacks and stroke most likely would be on blood thinners. But I’m not a doctor.
And what does he mean – “Of course, I want to talk to her, but I’m not sure this is the right time”? If it’s not the right time, then what is he bitching about?
Here’s a surprise (not) – the Sun is reporting that Tom Jr. is worried about how they’re going to pay the hospital bills, which insurance won’t fully cover. I wonder who can assist them? Maybe Graham has a contact who can help out? Or they could try GoFundMe?
Was trying to confirm I’d read Tom Jr. took his father to the doctor on Tuesday, at which point he was transferred to the larger facility. If Tom Sr. texted Graham at 6:30 am Wednesday Philippine time, that would be 10:30 pm in LA. So, she called Tom Jr. right away, but in the very early am Wednesday local time Tom Jr. wasn’t aware at all that his father was already in the hospital scheduled for an amputation in a few hours. Okay. If it was true that she was in LA and didn’t find out about the surgery until she got Tom Sr.’s text Tuesday night, there was still plenty of time to set up the “bad Meghan” storyline. That of course assumes Graham was actually in LA, not at her usual post in the Phillipines.
I expressed my sympathy to the family by streaming WLM Holiday a couple more times.
@windyriver that was what I thought. When the DM broke this story on Friday it sounded that Tom Jr took his father Tom Sr to the doctor and then to the hospital and that Tom Jr then contacted the DM, probably Caroline Graham, to notify them about the situation.
Now in this article Graham claims that Tom Sr contacted her, Graham, In LA and she, Graham, notified Tom Jr and Sammy about Tom Sr medical situation. It sounds for me that at that time when Graham contacted Tom Jr and Sammy Tom Sr had already been seen by a doctor and was probably already in the hospital. And now Graham is sitting at Tom Sr bedside, waiting for the big story.
As usual the Markles and the DM are tripping over their own lies.

I believe he got the email but choose to work with the fail as the typical jerk he is. This is great really as it gives Meghan the motive to stop this non story right there. I also wonder why he is treated like a VIP when it’s well known he is estranged for the Sussexes.
And why would a hospital spokesperson without a name mention wanting her to visit personally? Her being there isn’t going to change or help his situation. She isn’t a medical professional and no one working at a hospital would want to create a frenzy at their hospital that would disturb other patients.

This all sounds so personal. Caroline Graham’s relationship with Tom Sr is very personal. the last couple of incidents with Tom Sr, the earthquake and now the medical incident, shifted the focus also onto Graham’s and Tom Sr relationship so much that she had to explain their relationship in this article. Graham also emphasises that everything what they do, information gathering and so on, are done with Tom Sr consent. I think this is to counter any allegation of manipulation. I am wondering if there is a professional body for journalists which could investigate Graham for unethical behaviour.
I thing the DM is looking for ammunition against Harry and to hurt him. And they know that Harry is very protective of Meghan and anything they do to attack Meghan will hurt Harry. But I think this will only fire up Harry.

This whole story sounds fishy. Because if I’m in the ICU “fighting for my life” I’m definitely going to be in contact with the tabloids. /s I know some celebrities have had issues with family going berserk once they become famous but this is unbelievable. And then to have a bottom feeder tabloid in the mix too? I believe the Fail knows they are going to lose the case and this is why they are trying to inflict as much misery as possible on Meghan. If he was in a life and death situation talking to a tabloid would NOT be thought of by him or his loved ones and the hospital would be respecting patient confidentiality in any circumstances. Yesterday his business partner,Karl Larsen was telling The Times that he’d sent his number to Meghan so she could contact dad via him? As is?? All these bottom feeds like Junior, Scanmatha, Karl and Caroline want to use dad’s dubious health to lure Meghan back into their clutches. They want a big payday from reunion pictures of the entire family, constant access to Meghan and her cash from now on. He’s NOT battling for his life he’s once again attempting to blackmail Meghan so he and his hangers on can score big time. Meghan is wise to his shenanigans and that of his handlers.
I think this whole situation is so unethical. On the part of the Daily Mail and the hospital too. Why are they getting involved in family dynamics and making it public? Agreed @Elly this setup is wrong on every level and very concerning. When my elderly dad was hospitalised here in the UK I was given medical information by them only in his presence and with his consent. No way would they have said anything over the phone let alone to a newspaper?! Also during dad’s last 8 years he endured frequent hospitalisations and my siblings and I were exhausted visiting and working full time. We kept focused on him and our families and had no time for idle questions. If you are seriously ill you don’t call the Daily Mail before your loved ones?! Who does such an odd thing? TM isn’t famous why involve the DM? Why endless coverage and front page stories? This is all wrong, invasive and unjustified.
And let’s take it at face value, just as an example. If his foot has been amputated he’s gotta be on extreme pain meds. Is he really in a well-enough state to give authorization to doctors to talk to tabloids? No doctor should take that at face-value if he’s on that many pain meds which I can only assume would be the case after an amputation. Unless Caroline Graham has been given authorization by Tom in all his medical and media decisions.

The abusive manipulation in public, led by the Daily Fail, is the dead give-away that this is just an entirely BS story aimed at generating days worth of clicks for the Daily Fail and others, and giving them another rod with which to bash Meghan, overshadow her successes (eg WLM Holiday Special being in Netflix Top 10, her stunning Harper’s Baazar coverage, or her chocolates selling out in minutes), and try to stress her out.
Not to mention to add to their upcoming lists about how 2025 was SUCH a disaster year for Meghan and Harry – these should start coming thick and fast from mid-December.

They aren’t engaging in anything. I think they are handling this in the absolute right way. No matter what, Markle Sr is her father, and it would be more surprising if she expressed no concern and ignored the whole thing. Amputation is a pretty horrible thing and guaranteed to catch someone’s attention. Is he lying? Probably about a lot of things, but likely not about that.
The Markles are playing this as a reality show. There’s no embarrassment with public family drama on a reality show, just money and attention. Even if Meghan does nothing, the Markles will still profit from this. But Meghan has a new business to defend and she’s not heartless – an email seems like the best reaction on her part.
Agree with @Eurydice about Meghan’s response. In fact, the only information that seems reliable is the simple early statement Meghan’s spokesperson provided, that she had reached out. Not sure where the “she sent an email” came from and I question that, because first, it isn’t anyone’s business, Meghan’s not obligated to prove anything, and second, it leaves an opening for Tom etc. to say, no she didn’t, which is exactly what they’ve said. Current media stories are saying Meghan’s been calling hospitals all over the Philippines in “a frantic bid to get in touch” with her father, which is also ridiculous, because the hospital initials on Tom’s gown show exactly where he is. Yet another opportunity for the media to run with the ball and generate creative stories for as long as they can.
This situation has really gotten out if control and I don’t understand how an ethical journalist is not calling it out. There really is something seriously wrong. Basically this so-called repirter Caroline Graham and the Daily Mail ate in control of Markle. During her case against the Daily Mail, Meghan stated that the tabloids groomed her father. It’s do obvious now and needs to be called out and dealt with. There is something about this situation that seems like it’s being used to entrap Meghan. It’s really off. A British commentator (Carole Malone, I think) again recently claimed that Markle raised Meghan while her mother was in prison. Which is insane and defamatory — Doria was never in prison. They keep confusing her with a man who has a similar name.
This is all gross and infuriating.
I know they don’t want to start more lawsuits, but Malone needs to be hit with a defamation suit for that kind of egregious lie.
Doria should sue. Not only Carole Malone for defamation, but the TV station, too, for allowing Ms Malone to defame her without anyone questioning the validity of her claim. Controversial opinion but the Sussex who needs to see Tom Markle is Harry. He needs to better protect and defend his wife from her problematic family.
